ABSTRACT

The co-doping of graphene with nitrogen and sulfur was investigated aiming at understanding their interactions with the presence of oxygen in graphene. The co-doped graphene (NS-G) was synthesized via a one-pot hydrothermal route using graphene oxide as starting material and L-cysteine, an amino acid containing both N and S, as the doping agent. The obtained NS-G with a three-dimensional hierarchical structure containing both macropores and mesopores exhibited excellent mechanical stabilities under both wet and dry conditions. As compared to N or S singly doped graphene, the co-doped sample contains significantly higher concentrations of N and S species especially pyrollic N groups. The co-doped sample considerably outperformed the singly doped samples when used as free-standing electrode in supercapacitors due to enhanced pseudocapacitance. The simultaneous incorporation of S and N species with the presence of oxygen significantly modified the surface chemistry of carbon leading to considerably higher doping levels, although directly bonding between N and S is neither likely nor detected. Hence, the synergetic effect between N and S occurred through carbon atoms in neighboring hexagonal rings in a graphene sheet.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the difference between the cognitive and control ability and the responsibility in forensic psychiatry evaluation. METHODS: To compare the results of the responsibility evaluation from 2001.1 to 2006.10 (the first period) with that of the cognitive and control ability evaluation from 2006.11 to 2010.10 (the second period). The admissibility opinions on court judgment and evaluation were investigated by return visit. The legal professions' opinions on forensic psychiatric issues from the police office, the procuratorate, the court, and the judiciary were investigated. RESULTS: There was no significant difference of the criminal types between two periods (P > 0.05). There was significant difference of the diagnostic types between two periods (P < 0.05). The proportion of normal range and part loss of the cognitive and control ability in the second period were higher than that in the first period, but the proportion of complete loss of the cognitive and control ability in the second period was lower than that in the first period (P < 0.05). Among the legal professions, 70.5% of them thought that "the evaluation of cognitive and control ability" was different from "the evaluation of criminal responsibility" and 94.9% of them thought that "to confirm the influence of the forensic psychiatric evaluation of mental disorder on the crime behavior" or "to assess of cognitive and control ability" met requirements of normative judicial expertise. CONCLUSION: The evaluation of cognitive and control ability is more aligned with legal requirements and behavioral norms of own subject than the evaluation of responsibility.

ABSTRACT

Recent studies have demonstrated that the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling plays an important role in stem cell aging. However, the mechanisms of cell senescence induced by Wnt/ß-catenin signaling are still poorly understood. Our preliminary study has indicated that activated Wnt/ß-catenin signaling can induce MSC aging. In this study, we reported that the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling was a potent activator of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in MSCs. After scavenging ROS with N-acetylcysteine, Wnt/ß-catenin signaling-induced MSC aging was significantly attenuated and the DNA damage and the expression of p16(INK4A), p53, and p21 were reduced in MSCs. These results indicated that the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling could induce MSC aging through promoting the intracellular production of ROS, and ROS may be the main mediators of MSC aging induced by excessive activation of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To examine the self-reported scale of brief psychopathological symptoms (SBPS) to detect malingering in forensic psychiatric cases. METHODS: Two hundred and six cases with different types of psychiatric problems were tested by SBPS. All cases were separately evaluated by two experts. RESULTS: About 34.5% cases (71/206) were classified as malingering by the cut-off 13 scores of SBPS. Compared with expert's evaluation, SBPS showed a false negative rate of 19.8% and a false positive rate of 1.7%, respectively, with a total accuracy rate of 90.8%. Cases involved in compensations including working injury and traffic accidence showed the highest rate of malingering (51%). CONCLUSION: SBPS is useful for detecting malingering psychopathological symptoms.

ABSTRACT

The second-order Møller-Plesset (MP2) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been carried out to investigate the structures and stabilities of hydrogen (H-) bonded 2-hydroxypyridine (2HP)/2-pyridone (2PY) dimeric forms as well as 2HP-2PY complexes. The results on single-point counterpoise (CP) correction of these complexes were compared against CP-optimized correction. The nature of the intermolecular contacts in the sense of normal H-bond or blue-shifting H-bond was determined on the basis of harmonic vibrational, atom-in-molecule (AIM), and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. A blue-shifting C-H...N H-bond was found and NBO analysis revealed a slight decrease in the population of the contacting sigmaC-H* antibonding orbital as the primary reason of the C-H contraction. Good correlations have been established between the interaction energies and the H-bond distances versus other characteristic H-bond parameters.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the characteristics of arterial blood gas and electrolytes in patients with severe pulmonary tuberculosis with respiratory failure. METHOD: In 50 patients with severe pulmonary tuberculosis, the arterial blood gas and electrolytes were measured after the onset of respiratory failure to define the types of respiratory failure and acid-base imbalance. RESULTS: Severe pulmonary tuberculosis with respiratory failure was characterized by development of hypoxia, and the degree of hypercapnia may vary; more extensive tuberculous involvement or longer disease course suggest greater chance of type II respiratory failure. Increment of the anion gap occurred irrespective of the pH value. CONCLUSION: Analysis of arterial blood gas and electrolytes may help monitor the progression of severe pulmonary tuberculosis and provides valuable information for implementing treatment and making prognostic decisions.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mental health and social support in patients with tuberculosis. METHODS: Questionnaires were performed in 132 patients with tuberculosis and 71 healthy volunteers using Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). Statistical analyses were processed using Student's t test and ANOVA test. RESULTS: Somatization, obsessive-compulsiveness, anxiety, phobic anxiety and paranoid ideation, psychotism and the mean of positive factors of SCL-90 of the tuberculosis group (1.77 +/- 0.51, 1.63 +/- 0.50, 1.53 +/- 0.51, 1.33 +/- 0.41, 1.40 +/- 0.45, 1.41 +/- 0.40 and 36.07 +/- 20.84, respectively) were significantly higher than those of the control group (1.30 +/- 0.49, 1.43 +/- 0.49, 1.38 +/- 0.65, 1.24 +/- 0.48, 1.49 +/- 0.69, 1.30 +/- 0.44 and 24.92 +/- 18.22, respectively) (all P < 0.01). The result of symptom self-check differed among patients with different educational levels. The SSRS results of subjective and objective supports and total score of social supports of the tuberculosis group were 6.90 +/- 2.81, 19.25 +/- 5.62 and 32.96 +/- 7.86, respectively, much lower than those of the control group (7.92 +/- 2.57, 21.54 +/- 5.82 and 36.51 +/- 9.01, respectively) (all P < 0.01). Subjective support of patients with smear positive tuberculosis was much lower than that of patients with smear negative disease (18.15 +/- 5.72 vs. 20.75 +/- 5.78, P < 0.05); Subjective support, objective support and total score of social support of the unmarried patients (17.19 +/- 4.20, 6.17 +/- 2.18, 30.35 +/- 5.96, respectively) were lower than those of the married (20.72 +/- 5.96, 7.66 +/- 3.03, 35.19 +/- 8.74, respectively) (all P < 0.01). The results of SCL-90 and SSRS had no statistical relationship. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that the disordered mental conditions and lower social support in patients with tuberculosis need psychosocial interventions in addition to medical care.
