ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Painless gastroenteroscopy is a widely developed diagnostic and treatment technology in clinical practice. It is of great significance in the clinical diagnosis, treatment, follow-up review and other aspects of gastric cancer patients. The application of anesthesia techniques during manipulation can be effective in reducing patient fear and discomfort. In clinical work, the adverse drug reactions of anesthesia regimens and the risk of serious adverse drug reactions are increased with the increase in propofol application dose application dose; the application of opioid drugs often causes gastrointestinal reactions, such as nausea, vomiting and delayed gastrointestinal function recovery, after examination. These adverse effects can seriously affect the quality of life of patients. AIM: To observe the effect of modified ShengYangYiwei decoction on gastrointestinal function, related complications and immune function in patients with gastric cancer during and after painless gastroscopy. METHODS: A total of 106 patients with gastric cancer, who were selected from January 2022 to September 2022 in Xiamen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for painless gastroscopy, were randomly divided into a treatment group (n = 56) and a control group (n = 50). Before the examination, all patients fasted for 8 h, provided their health education, and confirmed if there were contraindications to anesthesia and gastroscopy. During the examination, the patients were placed in the left decubitus position, the patients were given oxygen through a nasal catheter (6 L/min), the welling needle was opened for the venous channel, and a multifunction detector was connected for monitoring electrocardiogram, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, etc. Naporphl and propofol propofol protocols were used for routine anesthesia. Before anesthesia administration, the patients underwent several deep breathing exercises, received intravenous nalbuphine [0.nalbuphine (0.025 mg/kg)], followed by intravenous propofol [1.propofol (1.5 mg/kg)] until the palpebral reflex disappeared, and after no response, gastroscopy was performed. If palpebral reflex disappeared, and after no response, gastroscopy was performed. If any patient developed movement, frowning, or hemodynamic changes during the operation (heart rate changes during the operation (heart rate increased to > 20 beats/min, systolic blood pressure increased to > 20% of the base value), additional propofol [0.propofol (0.5 mg/kg)] was added until the patient was sedated again. The patients in the treatment group began to take the preventive intervention of Modified ShengYangYiwei decoction one week before the examination, while the patients in the control group received routine gastrointestinal endoscopy. The patients in the two groups were examined by conventional painless gastroscopy, and the characteristics of the painless gastroscopies of the patients in the two groups were recorded and compared. These characteristics included the total dosage of propofol during the examination, the incidence of complications during the operation, the time of patients' awakening, the time of independent activities, and the gastrointestinal function of the patients after examination, such as the incidence of reactions such as malignant vomiting, abdominal distension and abdominal pain, as well as the differences in the levels of various immunological indicators and inflammatory factors before anesthesia induction (T0), after conscious extubation (T1) and 24 h after surgery (T2). RESULTS: There was no difference in the patients' general information, American Society of Anesthesiologist classification or operation time between the two groups before treatment. In terms of painless gastroscopy, the total dosage of propofol in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05), and the time of awakening and autonomous activity was significantly faster than that in the control group (P < 0.05). During the examination, the incidence of hypoxemia, hypotension and hiccups in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.01). In terms of gastrointestinal function, the incidences of nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension and abdominal pain in the treatment group after examination were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.01). In terms of immune function, in both groups, the number of CD4+ and CD8+ cells decreased significantly (P < 0.05), and the number of natural killer cells increased significantly (P < 0.05) at T1 and T2, compared with T0. The number of CD4+ and CD8+ cells in the treatment group at the T1 and T2 time points was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05), while the number of natural killer cells was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). In terms of inflammatory factors, compared with T0, the levels of interleukin (IL) -6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha in patients in the two groups at T1 and T2 increased significantly and then decreased (P < 0.05). The level of IL-6 at T1 and T2 in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The preoperative use of modified ShengYangYiwei decoction can optimize the anesthesia program during painless gastroscopy, improve the gastrointestinal function of patients after the operation, reduce the occurrence of examination-related complications.

BACKGROUND: Painless gastroscopy is a widely used diagnostic and therapeutic technology in clinical practice. Propofol combined with opioids is a common drug for painless endoscopic sedation and anaesthesia. In clinical work, adverse drug reactions of anaesthesia schemes are often one of the important areas of concern for doctors and patients. With the increase in propofol dosage, the risk of serious adverse drug reactions, such as respiratory depression and hypotension, increases significantly; the use of opioids often causes gastrointestinal reactions in patients after examination, such as nausea, vomiting, delayed recovery of gastrointestinal function and other complications, which seriously affect their quality of life. AIM: To observe the effect of wrist-ankle acupuncture therapy on the anaesthesia regimen and anaesthesia-related complications during and after painless gastroscopy examination. METHODS: Two hundred patients were selected and randomly divided into a treatment group (n = 100) and a control group (n = 100). Both groups were routinely anaesthetized with the nalbuphine and propofol regimen, gastroscopy began after the patient lost consciousness, and given supportive treatment and vital sign monitoring. If the patient interrupted the surgery due to intraoperative torsion, intravenous propofol was used to relieve his or her discomfort. The treatment group received wrist-ankle acupuncture on this basis. RESULTS: The general data before treatment, American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA) grade and operation time between the two groups was no significant difference. The Wakeup time, and the Self-ambulation time in the treatment group was significantly faster than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The total dose of propofol in the treatment group was 109 ± 8.17 mg, significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The incidence of respiratory depression and hypotension was not significantly different, but the incidence of hiccups was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). After the examination, the incidence of nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, and abdominal pain was 11%, 8%, 6%, and 5%, respectively, which was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). In addition, both the operators and the patients were more satisfied with this examination, with no significant difference between the groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Wrist-ankle acupuncture treatment can optimize the painless gastroscopy and anaesthesia scheme, reduces propofol total dose; shortens patient Wakeup time and Self-ambulation time, improves patient compliance and tolerance, is beneficial to clinical application.

Objectives: This study was performed to explore the preventive and therapeutic effects of Lactobacillus plantarum ZFM4 on H. pylori infections of the stomach tissue in C57BL/6 mice. Methods: In this study, 40 specific-pathogen-free female C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into five groups, namely, the control, ZFM4 pretreatment) ZFM4 pretreatment before H. pylori infected), model (H. pylori infected), triple therapy (H. pylori infected and treated with triple therapy), and ZFM4 treatment groups (H. pylori infected and treated with ZFM4). The preventive and therapeutic effects of Lactobacillus plantarum ZFM4 were evaluated in H. pylori-infected C57BL/6 mice by assessing gastric tissue morphology, inflammatory cytokine levels, microbial composition, and microbial diversity. Results: Lactobacillus plantarum ZFM4 was able to survive in low gastric pH and play a role in preventing H. pylori infection. This was evident from a reduction in both, the gastric inflammatory response and expression of inflammatory factors caused by H. pylori infection. Lactobacillus plantarum ZFM4 could also inhibit the growth of H. pylori via its beneficial impact on the gastric microbiota. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that Lactobacillus plantarum ZFM4 offers superior preventive effects against H. pylori infections when used alone. However, the therapeutic effect on established infections is weaker. Further clinical trials are needed to confirm the specific dosage, duration, and other aspects of administration.

ABSTRACT

Previous studies have suggested that Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of H. pylori eradication treatment on NAFLD patients. Two hundred NAFLD patients who tested positive for H. pylori infection were randomized into the H. pylori eradication treatment group or the control group. Metabolic and inflammatory parameters and FibroScan were measured in all subjects at baseline and 1 year after treatment. At 1 year after treatment, the decrease in metabolic indicators, such as fasting blood glucose, glycosylated haemoglobin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglycerides, body mass index and controlled attenuation parameter values, were more obvious in the treatment group. Moreover, the inflammatory indicators white blood count and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and the inflammatory factors interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were also significantly decreased. H. pylori eradication can further reduce the metabolic indices of NAFLD and the degree of liver steatosis. H. pylori infection may participate in the occurrence and development of NAFLD through its influence on inflammatory factors. Thus, checking for the presence of H. pylori infection in patients at risk of NAFLD may be beneficial.

ABSTRACT

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the deadliest malignancies worldwide. Immune escape is considered to be a reason for immunotherapy failure in PDAC. In this study, we explored the correlation between immune escape-related genes and the prognosis of PDAC patients. Methods: 1163 PDAC patients from four public databases, including The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), Array-express, and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), were included in our study. Cox regression analysis was used to identify the 182 immune genes which were significantly associated with overall survival (OS). And then we established an immune escape-related gene prognosis index (IEGPI) score using several datasets as the training cohort and validated it using the validation cohort. Kaplan-Meier (KM) and Cox regression analysis were used to detect the relationship of IEGPI score with OS. We further explored the relationship between the IEGPI and immune indexes. And the prediction value of response for immunotherapy in Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE) dataset. Results: We establish an IEGPI score based on 27 immune escape genes which were significantly related to the prognosis of OS in PDAC patients. Patients in the high-IEGPI group had a significantly worse overall survival rate compared with that in the low-IEGPI groups by KM curves and cox-regression. 5 of the 32 cancer types in TCGA could be significantly distinguished in survival rates through the low- and high-IEGPI groups. Moreover, the correlation between the IEGPI score was negatively correlated with an immune score in several datasets. And higher IEGPI better recurrence-free survival (RFS) and OS in the patients after patients were treated with both PD-1 and CTLA4 in the public datasets (P<0.05). Intriguingly, by using RT-PCR, we verified that the gene of PTPN2, CEP55, and JAK2 were all higher in the BxPC-3 and PANC-1 than HPDE5 cells. Lastly, we found that the IEGPI score was higher in K-rasLSL.G12D/+, p53LSL.R172H/+, Pdx1Cre (KPC) mice model with anti-PD-L1 than that without anti-PD-L1. Conclusion: Using the immune escape-related genes, our study established and validated an IEGPI score in PDAC patients from the public dataset. IEGPI score has the potential to serve as a prognostic marker and as a tool for selecting tumor patients suitable for immunotherapy in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

RATIONALE: Hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) is a hereditary disorder of iron metabolism. It is classified into 4 main types depending on the underlying genetic mutation: human hemochromatosis protein (HFE) (type 1), hemojuvelin (HJV) (type 2A), HAMP (type 2B), transferrin receptor-2 (TFER2) (type 3), and ferroportin (type 4). Type 4 HH is divided into 2 subtypes according to different mutations: type 4A (classical ferroportin disease) and type 4B (non-classical ferroportin disease). Type 4B HH is a rare autosomal dominant disease that results from mutations in the Solute Carrier Family 40 member 1 (SLC40A1) gene, which encodes the iron transport protein ferroportin. PATIENT CONCERNS: Here we report 2 elderly Chinese Han men, who were brothers, presented with liver cirrhosis, diabetes mellitus, skin hyperpigmentation, hyperferritinaemia as well as high transferrin saturation. DIAGNOSIS: Subsequent genetic analyses identified a heterozygous mutation (p. Cys326Tyr) in the SLC40A1 gene in both patients. INTERVENTIONS: We treated the patient with iron chelator and followed up for 3 years. OUTCOMES: Iron chelator helped to reduce the serum ferritin and improve the condition of target organs, including skin, pancreas, liver as well as pituitary. LESSONS: Type 4B HH is rare but usually tends to cause multiple organ dysfunction and even death. For those patients who have difficulty tolerating phlebotomy, iron chelator might be a good alternative.

ABSTRACT

In recent studies, vibration-controlled transient elastography (FibroScan) has been reported as an alternative noninvasive approach for measuring liver steatosis and fibrosis. The present study aimed to investigate the feasibility of FibroScan controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) and liver stiffness measurement (LSM) in the detection of increased arterial stiffness in asymptomatic populations in China.A retrospective cohort recruiting 4747 asymptomatic patients with no underlying causes of liver disease and having FibroScan and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) during wellness check-up was covered. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) was defined as a CAP ≥238 dB/m. NAFLD with significant fibrosis was defined as an LSM ≥7.3 kPa in the presence of NAFLD. Increased arterial stiffness was determined as a BaPWV ≥1.4m/second.Among the 4747 study participants, 1596 subjects (33.6%) suffered from increased arterial stiffness. The prevalence of increased arterial stiffness progressively increased across CAP quartiles and LSM quartiles in NAFLD (23.5%, 30.8%, 38.3%, 43.7%, P < .001 and 33.1%, 36.8%, 40.4%, 48.2%, P < .001, respectively). After conventional cardiovascular risk factors were adjusted (age, sex, overweight, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and current smoking habits), multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that CAP (odd ratio [OR] = 1.005; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.003-1.006; P < .001), NAFLD (OR = 1.427; 95% CI: 1.212-1.681; P < .001), LSM in NAFLD (OR = 1.073; 95% CI: 1.023-1.125; P = .003), and significant fibrosis in NAFLD (OR = 1.480; 95% CI: 1.090-2.010; P = .012) were independently associated with increased arterial stiffness. Furthermore, in a multivariate logistic regression analysis, OR (95% CI) for the maximal vs. the minimal quartile of CAP was 1.602 (1.268-2.024), and that of LSM in NAFLD was 1.362 (1.034-1.792) after adjustment for the above-mentioned risk factors. Notably, NAFLD and significant fibrosis in NAFLD were significantly correlated only with increased arterial stiffness in subjects without hypertension or diabetes mellitus after adjustment for the above-mentioned risk factors.CAP-defined NAFLD and LSM-defined significant fibrosis in NAFLD showed significant and independent relationships with increased arterial stiffness even after adjustment for conventional cardiovascular risk factors, which can be conducive to stratifying relative risk of subjects having undergone screening assessment for cardiovascular disease.

ABSTRACT

The unique thermogenic capacity of brown adipocyte makes it an attractive target for antiobesity treatments. Several epigenetic regulators can control brown adipocyte development. In this study, we show that SIRT5, a member of the sirtuins, is required for brown adipocyte differentiation and essential for brown adipogenic gene activation in vitro. Furthermore, we find out that knockdown of SIRT5 reduces intracellular α-ketoglutarate concentration, which leads to elevated H3K9me2 and H3K9me3 levels at promoter regions of Pparγ and Prdm16 loci. Finally, we discover that SIRT5 knockout mice on the Sv129 background exhibit less browning capacity in subcutaneous white adipose tissue compared with controls and show apparent cold intolerance, suggesting that SIRT5 can modulate the browning process in vivo. Thus, our study uncovers a new biological function of SIRT5 in brown adipocyte differentiation and a mechanism by which SIRT5 regulates brown adipogenic gene activation at least partly through an indirect effect on histone modifications. Our study extends the linkage between epigenetics and cell differentiation.

ABSTRACT

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an energy sensor of metabolism that is an attractive therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome. Using a homogeneous scintillation proximity assay (SPA), we identified a new small-molecule AMPK activator, ZLN024, which allosterically stimulated active AMPK heterotrimers and the inactive α1 subunit truncations α1 (1-394) and α1 (1-335) but not α1 (1-312). AMPK activation by ZLN024 requires the pre-phosphorylation of Thr-172 by at least one upstream kinase and protects AMPK Thr-172 against dephosphorylation by PP2Cα. ZLN024 activated AMPK in L6 myotubes and stimulated glucose uptake and fatty acid oxidation without increasing the ADP/ATP ratio. ZLN024 also activated AMPK in primary hepatocytes, decreased fatty acid synthesis and glucose output. Treatment of db/db mice with 15 mg/kg/day ZLN024 improved glucose tolerance; liver tissue weight, triacylglycerol and the total cholesterol content were decreased. The hepatic transcriptional level of G6Pase, FAS and mtGPAT were reduced. The transcription of genes involved in fatty acid oxidation and the mitochondrial biogenesis of muscle tissue were elevated. The ACC phosphorylation was increased in muscle and liver. This study provides a novel allosteric AMPK activator for functional study in vitro and in vivo and demonstrates that AMPK allosteric activators could be a promising therapeutic approach for type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome.

SH-SY5Y cell line treated with 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) is a classical Parkinson's disease (PD). In the present study, synchrotron-based Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy was used to analyze the biochemical composition of SH-SY5Y cell line treated with 6-OHDA. The detailed spectral analyses show the significant changes in cellular compositions such as lipids, proteins and nucleic acids in SH-SY5Y cells treated with 6-OHDA compared to control SH-SY5Y cells. As a result, the unsaturation levels of phospholipids decrease in SH-SY5Y cells treated with 6-OHDA compared to control cells, the analysis of protein secondary structure shows the significantly higher ratio of beta-sheet in PD cells compared to that of control cells, and the content of nuclear acid is highly decreased compared to that of control cells, suggesting that 6-OHDA induces the serious oxidative damage in SH-SY5Y cells. These findings suggest that SR-FTIR is an effective and precise technical tool to probe the biochemical changes of cells and then evaluate the pathological damage in cells.

ABSTRACT

Heterogeneous reactions on mineral aerosols remain an important subject in atmospheric chemistry because of their role in altering the properties of particles and the budget of trace gases. Yet, the role of coadsorption of trace gases onto mineral aerosols and potential synergistic effects are largely uncertain, especially synergistic effects between inorganic and organic gas-phase pollutants. In this study, synergistic effects between HCOOH and SO2 were investigated for the first time using in situ diffuse-reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). It was found that the heterogeneous reaction of HCOOH is hindered significantly by coexisting SO2. The total amount of formate decreased, whereas the total amount of sulfate was not affected during coadsorption on the surface of α-Fe2O3. Futhermore, part of the formate on the surface was catalytically decomposed to CO2 by α-Fe2O3 with the help of SO2. These results suggest a possible mechanism for the observed correlations between sulfate and carboxylate in the atmosphere.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) has been shown to influence energy metabolism. Hence, we explored a strategy to target PGC-1α expression to treat metabolic syndromes. We developed a high-throughput screening assay that uses the human PGC-1α promoter to drive expression of luciferase. The effects of lead compound stimulation on PGC-1α expression in muscle cells and hepatocytes were investigated in vitro and in vivo. A novel small molecule, ZLN005, led to changes in PGC-1α mRNA levels, glucose uptake, and fatty acid oxidation in L6 myotubes. Activation of AMP-activated protein kinase was involved in the induction of PGC-1α expression. In diabetic db/db mice, chronic administration of ZLN005 increased PGC-1α and downstream gene transcription in skeletal muscle, whereas hepatic PGC-1α and gluconeogenesis genes were reduced. ZLN005 increased fat oxidation and improved the glucose tolerance, pyruvate tolerance, and insulin sensitivity of diabetic db/db mice. Hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia also were ameliorated after treatment with ZLN005. Our results demonstrated that a novel small molecule selectively elevated the expression of PGC-1α in myotubes and skeletal muscle and exerted promising therapeutic effects for treating type 2 diabetes.

ABSTRACT

Despite increased awareness of the role played by heterogeneous reactions of formic acid on mineral aerosol, the experimental determination of how these atmospheric reaction rates vary with temperature remain a crucially important part of atmosphere science. Here we report the first measurement of heterogeneous uptake of formic acid on α-Al(2)O(3) as a function of temperature (T = 240-298 K) at ambient pressure using diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). From the analysis of the spectral features, crystalline HCOOH was identified at low temperature besides common product (formate ions) on the surface. It was also interesting to find that crystalline HCOOH can continue to react with α-Al(2)O(3). The reaction mechanisms at both room and low temperature were discussed. Furthermore, the reactive uptake coefficients were acquired and found to increase with decreasing temperature. Finally, the atmospheric lifetime of formic acid because of heterogeneous loss on mineral aerosol was estimated at temperatures related to the upper troposphere.

ABSTRACT

Two novel adsorbents to remove excess arsenate and arsenite in the drinking water were prepared for the first time by grafting monoamine and diamine, respectively, and then coordinating Fe(3+) on silica gel that was obtained using sol-gel method with two-step acid-base catalysis. It was found that both adsorbents had mesoporous structure, large specific surface, and high amino and iron content according to N(2) adsorption isotherms, FTIR, XPS, and NMR analysis. The removal ability and adsorption rate of the adsorbents were very high for both As(V) and As(III). Langmuir and Freundlich models were used to fit the adsorption isotherm and investigate the adsorption mechanism. The effects of chloride and sulfate anion on the removal of arsenate and arsenite for the two adsorbents were also studied.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect and mechanism of migraine treated with pine needle moxibustion. METHODS: Forty-three patients were randomly divided into 2 groups of pine needle moxibustion group (group A, 21 cases) and medicated thread moxibustion of Zhuang medicine group (group B, 22 cases). Same acu-points were selected as the main points for both groups, namely Fengchi (GB 20), Baihui (GV 20), Taiyang (EX-HN 5), Shuaigu (GB 8), Cuanzhu (BL 2), Sizhukong (TE 23), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Waiguan (TE 5) and Ashi points. Pine needle moxibustion was applied for the group A. Processed lighted pine needles were banded together with one even head to do moxibustion on acupoints or pain points. While, lighted medicated thread was adopted for the group B to do moxibustion. Therapeutic effects, the content of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), Mg2+ in the serum and the degree of pain of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: (1) In the group A, the complete remission rate was 47.6% (10/21) and the effective rate was 90.5% (19/21). In the group B, the complete remission rate was 13.6% (3/22) and the effective rate was 50.0% (11/22). The two rates in the group A were superior to those in the group B (both P < 0.01); (2) In the group A, the content of hs-CRP was decreased from (4.29 +/- 0.98) mg/L to (2.11 +/- 0.87) mg/L, and Mg2+ was increased from (0.67 +/- 0.28) mmol/L to (1.07 +/- 0.16) mmol/L. In the group B, the contents of the above mentioned indices were respectively decreased from (4.30 +/- 1.07) mg/L to (3.38 +/- 1.15) mg/L and increased from (0.68 +/- 0.21) mmol/L to (0.88 +/- 0.25) mmol/L. There were significant differences between the two groups after treatment (both P < 0.05). (3) The degree of pain in the group A after treatment was much lower than that in the group B (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The clinical effect of migraine treated with pine needle moxibustion is better than that with the medicated thread moxibustion of Zhuang medicine. And it has obvious regulation effect on the levels of hs-CRP and Mg2+ in the serum of patients.

Synchrotron radiation based-Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (SR-FTIR) was used to preliminarily investigate the biochemical composition of the hippocampal neurons for 6-hydroxydopamine-lesioned rats and normal rats. Spectral analysis showed that in PD samples, the CH2 asymmetric and symmetric vibrational absorption of integral area at 2 924 and 2 850 cm(-1) and the intensity of C=O vibrational absorption at 1 736 cm(-1) (assigned to the lipid functional group) increase compared to normal samples, which indicate that lipid content increased in PD sample; the PO2 asymmetric and symmetric vibrational absorption decrease compared to normal samples (assigned to the nucleic acid functional group; However no clear difference of the vibrational fingerprinting of protein between PD and normal samples was noticed. The present results suggest that the changes in biochemical composition in hippocampal neurons in PD rats probed by synchrotron radiation based-FTIR may contribute to the elucidation of PD pathology.

ABSTRACT

Multiphase acid-catalyzed oxidation by hydrogen peroxide has been suggested to be a potential route to secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation from isoprene and its gas-phase oxidation products, but the kinetics and chemical mechanism remain largely uncertain. Here we report the first measurement of uptake of methacrolein into aqueous solutions of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide in the temperature range of 253-293 K. The steady-state uptake coefficients were acquired and increased quickly with increasing sulfuric acid concentration and decreasing temperature. Propyne, acetone, and 2,3-dihydroxymethacrylic acid were suggested as the products. The chemical mechanism is proposed to be the oxidation of carbonyl group and C═C double bonds by peroxide hydrogen in acidic environment, which could explain the large content of polyhydroxyl compounds in atmospheric fine particles. These results indicate that multiphase acid-catalyzed oxidation of methacrolein by hydrogen peroxide can contribute to SOA mass in the atmosphere, especially in the upper troposphere.

ABSTRACT

Highly ordered mesoporous aluminas and calcium-doped aluminas were synthesized through a facile and reproducible method. Their fluoride adsorption characteristics, including adsorption isotherms, adsorption kinetics, the effect of pH and co-existing anions were investigated. These materials exhibited strong affinity to fluoride ions and extremely high defluoridation capacities. The highest defluoridation capacity value reached 450 mg/g. These materials also showed superb arsenic removal ability. 1g of mesoporous alumina was able to treat 200 kg of arsenic contaminated water with a pH value of 7, reducing the concentration of arsenate from 100 ppb to 1 ppb.

The aromatic ring of the benzyl group is almost perpendicular to the N-heterocyclic ring that is directly connected to it [dihedral angles = 83.2 (2) and 77.3 (3)°].

The title compound, [Cd(NO(3))(2)(C(9)H(12)N(4))(2)](n), has a one-dimensional double-bridged chain polymer structure with a 16-membered macrometallacyclic tetragonal structural motif. The Cd(II) ion occupies a crystallographic inversion centre and is coordinated by four equatorial N atoms from four distinct bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)methane ligands and two apical nitrate O atoms to form a slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometry.
