ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aimed to explore the internal determinants affecting patients' utilization of online medical services (OMS) based on the information-motivation-behavioral skills model from a behavioral perspective. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. SETTING: This study was conducted in three medical institutions in Jiangsu Province, China. SUBJECTS: 470 internet users were enrolled from patients who came to the outpatient clinics. MEASURES: A self-administered questionnaire with feasible reliability and validity was used to investigate the demographic characteristics and OMS utilization-related information, motivation, behavioral skills, intention, and behavior. ANALYSIS: According to the constructed framework, structural equation modeling was used to test the relationships between those factors and OMS utilization behaviors. RESULTS: All direct paths are established except the path between information and intention. Information and motivation positively affected OMS utilization behavior through behavioral skills and intention (P < .001). Motivation and behavioral skills could positively influence OMS utilization behavior through intention (P < .01). Motivation was found to be the largest predictor of OMS utilization behavior. Moreover, gender played a moderating role in the interpretation of the behavior. CONCLUSIONS: Interventions should be conducted regarding information, motivation, and behavioral skills to promote patients' use of OMS. At the same time, the impact of gender on intervention effectiveness should also be considered.

ABSTRACT

The booster vaccination of COVID-19 is being implemented in most parts of the world. This study used behavioral psychology to investigate the predictors of parents' intentions regarding the COVID-19 booster vaccination for their children. This is a cross-sectional study with a self-designed questionnaire based on two behavioral theories-protective motivation theory (PMT) and theory of planned behavior (TPB). A stratified multi-stage sampling procedure was conducted in Nanjing, China, and multivariable regression analyses were applied to examine the parents' intentions. The intention rate was 87.3%. The response efficacy (ORa = 2.238, 95% CI: 1.360-3.682) and response cost (ORa = 0.484, 95% CI: 0.319-0.732) in the PMT, were significant psychological predictors of parents' intentions, and so were the attitude (ORa = 2.619, 95% CI: 1.480-4.636) and behavioral control (ORa = 3.743, 95% CI: 2.165-6.471) in the TPB. The findings of crucial independent predictors in the PMT and TPB constructs inform the evidence-based formulation and implementation of strategies for booster vaccination in children.

ABSTRACT

To improve carbon (C) sequestration and soil fertility of red soil, a two-year (2017 and 2018) field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of two organic amendments (i.e., corn straw and sheep manure) applied alone or combined with biochar on soil nutrient content, enzyme activities involved in C cycling, and microbial substrate utilization rate in infertile red soil. There were six treatments, including control (non-amendment), corn straw, sheep manure and across biochar treatments (without and with biochar amendment, respectively). The organic amendments and biochar were applied in 2017 and 2018. The results showed that, compared with the control, organic amendments significantly increased soil pH, organic C, total nitrogen, available phosphorus and potassium contents. Compared with straw and manure alone, the biochar co-application with straw or manure significantly increased the contents of soil organic C, available potassium, and available nitrogen, without any significant interactive effects. Application of organic amendments significantly increased the activities of soil ß-glucosidase (BG), cellobiohydrolase (CB), ß-xylosidase (XYL), and peroxidase (PERO). The combined application of biochar and straw significantly reduced the activity of phenol oxidase (PHOX) by 28.6% and PERO by 22.2% in comparison with straw addition alone, respectively, while the combined application of biochar and manure significantly reduced the activities of α-glucosidase (AG) by 46.1%, BG by 50.9%, XYL by 41.6%, and PERO by 31.3% compared with manure addition alone, respectively. Compared with the control, the application of organic amendments significantly enhanced soil basal respiration and microbial utilization rates of carbohydrates, whereas biochar co-application significantly decreased microbial utilization rates of carbohydrates and carboxylic acids. Microbial C source utilization rates were significantly and positively correlated with the activities of BG and PERO. Thus, biochar co-application with organic amendments can enhance nutrient content and reduce enzymatic and microbial metabolic activities, thereby may facilitate C sequestration and fertility of infertile red soil.

The diastolic blood pressure of the noise exposure group was higher than that of the control group [( )vs( ) ,P ] , 80±7 76±8 mmHg <0.05 . However there was no significant difference in systolic blood pressure between the two (P ) ( : groups >0.05 . ABSTRACT

In order to investigate the effect of fertilization on soil fungal community of Phyllostachys violascens stand, we characterized the abundance and community structure of soil fungi using the methods of terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) and real-time quantitative PCR. The experimental treatments included blank control (CK), chemical fertilizer (CF), organic manure (M), mixture of chemical fertilizer and organic manure (CFM) and mixture of chemical fertilizer and organic manure plus mulching (CFMM). The results showed that fungal community structure and diversity were markedly affected by different fertilization regimes. In 0-20 cm soil layer, CF and CFMM treatments resulted in a significant reduction of Shannon and evenness indices. Soil fungi under CK, M, CFMM treatments in 0-20 cm soil layer and CK, CF, CFMM treatments in 20-40 cm soil layer formed independent community structures. Soil fungal abundance showed significantly positive correlation with the concentrations of soil total nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen. Organic matter, ammonium nitrogen, available phosphorus and available nitrogen concentrations were the main factors that influenced the variation of fungal community composition. The above findings indicated that 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm soil layers had different characteristics in response to different fertilization regimes under P. violascens stand. The soil fungal community in the 0-20 cm layer was mainly affected by soil organic matter, while that in the 20-40 cm layer was sensitive to the input of chemical fertilizer. The effect of fertilization on the diversity of fungal community mainly occurred in the 0-20 cm soil layer.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to explore the stability, curability and sequelae of cases of Trichloroethylene (TCE) Hypersensitivity Syndrome (THS), and to investigate the causal allergens of THS. Two cases of THS were followed-up in the current study; both cases were healing following glucocorticoid therapy and were discharged >10 weeks prior to follow-up. A questionnaire investigation, health examination and patch test were performed. Allergens of TCE and its metabolites, including chloral hydrate, trichloroethanol (TCOH) and trichloroacetic acid, were applied in the patch test; 4 controls were included. The two subjects were experiencing itching, pigmentation and xerosis of the skin, and had abnormal results in the ophthalmology Schirmer I test and tear break-up time. The body temperature, liver function, superficial lymph nodes, blood, urine routine and autoimmune antibodies of two subjects were shown to be normal, and no new rashes had appeared. All mass concentration of chloral hydrate and TCOH were positive; 5.0% trichloroacetic acid was weakly positive, 0.5% trichloroacetic acid and all mass concentration of TCE were negative. All patch tests were negative in the 4 control subjects. The results suggest that THS was stable following treatment with glucocorticoid therapy. Dry eye syndrome may continue as a sequelae of THS. The patch test demonstrated that the mechanism underlying THS is delayed-type hypersensitivity induced by TCE. In addition, as the hypersensitivity state in a THS rehabilitee could be sustained over a long period of time, it suggests that the metabolites of TCE, not TCE itself, are responsible for THS. Therefore, patients with THS should avoid contact with TCE and its metabolites, and avoid using hypnotic and anticonvulsive drugs containing chloral hydra as the primary ingredient.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the effects of different forest stands in subtropical China on the communities of soil ammonia-oxidizing microorganisms, we characterized the abundance of ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and bacteria (AOB), and the community structure of AOA in soils under stands of broad-leaved (BF) , Chinese fir (CF) , Pinus massoniana (PF) and moso bamboo (MB) forests using real-time quantitative PCR and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). The results showed that the AOA gene copy numbers (1.62 x 10(6)-1.88 x 10(7) per gram of dry soil) were significantly higher than those of AOB genes (2.41 x 10(5)-4.36 x 10(5) per gram of dry soil). Significantly higher soil AOA abundance was detected in the MB than that in the CF (P < 0.05), and the latter was significantly higher than that in the BF and PF soils (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the soil AOB abundance among the four forest stands. As indicated by DGGE pattern, soil AOA species varied among the four forest stands. There was a difference in the soil AOA communities between the CF and MB stands. The AOA demonstrated a competitive advantage over the AOB in the soils under these major subtropical forests. Soil pH, concentrations of soil available potassium and organic carbon as well as the forest type were the main factors that influence the variation of AOA community structure and diversity.
