ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Melasma is a prevalent, persistent hyperpigmentation disorder that negatively affects the psychological health of patients. However, the treatment outcome remains unsatisfactory due to the complexity of pathogenesis, recurrence characteristics, and relatively high morbidity. OBJECTIVES: To compare the performance of laser-related therapies in improving the melasma area severity index (MASI) score of melasma and the occurrence of adverse effects by network meta-analysis (NMA). METHODS: From the inception to November 2022, eligible randomized controlled trials were identified. Two investigators independently searched relevant studies from PUBMED, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library database. RESULTS: A total of 39 clinical studies with 1394 participants were eligible for enrollment. For efficacy, the NMA demonstrated that Q-switched Nd: YAG laser + topical medications (QSND+TM) was superior to Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (QSND) [MD = -4.21 (-6.80, -1.63)], Er: YAG laser + topical medications (ERYL+TM) [MD = -3.52 (-6.84, -0.19)], and picosecond laser + topical medications (PICO+TM) [MD = -4.80 (-9.33, -0.27)]. The microneedling + topical medications (MN+TM) was superior to picosecond laser (PICO) [MD = -5.26 (-10.44, -0.08)] and topical medications (TM) [MD = -5.22 (-9.20, -1.23)]. The top five of the surface under the cumulative ranking curve value (SUCRA) are Q-switched Nd:YAG laser + topical medications (QSND+TM 85.9%), oral tranexamic acid (oTA 80.1%), microneedling + topical medications (MN+TM 79.7%), Q-switched Nd:YAG laser + intense pulse light (QSND+IPL 78.9%), and fractional carbon dioxide laser + topical medications (FCDL+TM 70.5%). CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the Qs-Nd:YAG laser with topical medications is the first choice for treating melasma according to the SUCRA value. Among the three treatment modalities, namely MN + TM, PICO, and TM, our recommendation favors MN+TM as the superior choice for enhancing the curative efficacy in melasma. However, the actual clinical choice should also take into account the adverse effects, the skin type of the patient, the duration of the disease, and other relevant factors.

ABSTRACT

The pharmacokinetic profiles and bioequivalence of two cyclosporine oral solutions were investigated in cats. Twenty-four cats were randomly allocated to two equally sized treatment groups in a randomized four-cycle, and dual-sequence cross-over design. Test and reference articles were orally administered in a single dose of 7 mg/kg Bodyweight. Serial blood samples were collected, and blood cyclosporine concentration was determined by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). No significant differences were present in the major pharmacokinetic parameters (Cmax, AUC0-last,) between the two formulations. The blood profiles of cyclosporine following the administration of both formulations were similar. The findings of the study suggested that the two articles were bioequivalent for cyclosporine oral solution.

ABSTRACT

At present, income and welfare inequality between migrant workers and urban natives has improved in China, but there are still many "semi-urbanized" migrant workers, whose psychological integration into the migrant city is very important for their mental health. By using a second stage conditional process model to decompose the effect of income on psychological integration into direct and indirect effects, this study explores the different psychological integration paths of migrant workers in different migration ranges, based on the data of the China Migrants Dynamic Survey (CMDS). The results show that the total effect of income on psychological integration is positive, and the value of inter-provincial samples is twice that of full samples. There is a significant difference in psychological integration paths between inter-provincial and intra-provincial samples, and when social comparison acts as a mediator, income has no direct effect on psychological integration of intra-provincial samples, while the direct and indirect effects of inter-provincial samples account for half of each other. Perceived discrimination played a reversed moderated role in the effect of social comparison on psychological integration, i.e., the lower the degree of perceived discrimination, the stronger the positive effect of social comparison on psychological integration, and vice versa. Therefore, according to the actual needs of different groups, relevant policies should be gradually adjusted to improve the psychological integration of migrant workers, thus contributing to their mental health.

ABSTRACT

Dummy molecularly imprinted microspheres (DMIMs) were synthesized by Pickering emulsion polymerization and used as the matrix solid-phase dispersion extraction (MSPD) sorbent for sample pre-treatment of azole fungicides in fish samples. Alpha-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-1H-imidazole-1-ethanol (DCE) was used as the fragment dummy template for the imprinting of climbazole (CBZ), clotrimazole (CMZ) and miconazole (MNZ). The morphology of the microspheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen adsorption measurements, narrow diameter distribution (20-50 µm) with regular spherical shape and high surface area (SBET = 408.91 ± 6.72 m2 g-1) were achieved. Good class-selectivity of the DMIMs was found for CBZ, CMZ and MNZ by static adsorption experiments. The imprinted microspheres as MSPD sorbent was then evaluated for the extraction and purification of CBZ, CMZ and MNZ in fish samples. The extracted azole fungicides were detected by HPLC-DAD analysis at 225 nm. MSPD conditions including elution, mass ratio of sample/sorbent and washing were carefully evaluated. The optimized MSPD method have good recoveries (89.2-101.5%) and reproducibility (RSDs 1.6-4.8%, n = 5) for fish samples spiked at 0.5, 2.5 and 12.5 µg g-1. The limits of detection (LODs) were 0.045, 0.036 and 0.033 µg g-1 for CBZ, CMZ and MNZ, respectively. The results show that this method has a good application prospect for the pretreatment of azole fungicides in fish samples.
