ABSTRACT

In 76 patients treated at the Department of Conservative Stomatology, Institute of Stomatology, Medical Academy in Lublin congenital absence of anlages of permanent teeth was found. The patients were aged 8 to 18 years, including 49 girls and 27 boys. In the whole group absence of 214 teeth was noted, i.e. 136 in girls and 78 in boys. In the examinations it was observed that congenital absence of permanent teeth was more frequent in girls than in boys, 2) most frequently only one tooth was absent in a given patient, 3) upper teeth were lacking more frequently than lower teeth, and absence of right teeth was more frequent than left teeth, 4) the greatest group among absent teeth were upper lateral incisors, while second upper molars in the maxilla were least frequently absent.

ABSTRACT

On the basis of responses to an inquiry provided by patients the motivating factors were assessed which induced the patients to undergo dental treatment provided by students of the stomatological faculty. The main motivating factors were: careful performing of procedures, good results of treatment, short waiting time for visit.

ABSTRACT

A group of 2022 people aged over 50 years were examined in a search for possible effects of various social features on the condition of teeth. Each feature was recorded in a special inquiry and then all data were put in order, and subjected to statistical and epidemiological-demographic analysis. The examination demonstrated a very bad condition of teeth in males and females. Thus the greatest number of carietic teeth, that is 2.21 per 14.92% of complete denture was in the group aged 50-55 years. A very high proportion of carietic teeth (21.55%) was in the individuals never receiving stomatological services and those who had never had proper stomatological care (1.11%). The obtained results show a considerable relationship between the persisting teeth and the availability of stomatological treatment, distance from the place of residence to specialist outpatient clinic, and the need for teeth treatment which was not felt by a high proportion of these people. Most of them came to the dentist only with strong pain. The bad condition of teeth in this group was caused by lack of adequate stomatological health education, lack of adequate prophylactic care, and lack of early treatment of stomatognathic system.

ABSTRACT

For obtaining detailed average data on the state of teeth and oral hygiene 2022 subjects aged over 50 years were examined collecting data on their socioeconomic status and stomatological characteristics, including the condition of teeth, the condition of prosthetic replacements and the pathological and physiological features of the mouth. In women and men the condition of teeth was not satisfactory. On the average, the studied subjects had only about 30% of full dental arches, e.g. in the group 50-55 years 49% had full dentition. Despite such high loss of teeth about 33% of these subjects were not wearing any prosthetic appliances. The obtained data show an evident correlation between the condition of teeth, wearing of prosthetic appliances and the availability of stomatological health care, distance form the place of residence to the nearest stomatological care unit and the demand for such care which was not expressed by a considerable proportion of these subjects. The unsatisfactory oral hygiene in the examined population was due to insufficient awareness of the need for prophylactic and therapeutic measures which could be related to insufficient information received prior to the age of 50 years. This conclusion was based on the results of interviews conducted with these subjects.

ABSTRACT

Existence of the supernumerary teeth has been found in 39 persons at the age of 8 to 69. There were 61.6% of the cases at the age when dentition exchange takes place and 38.4% of the cases during maturity. Clinical and radiological examinations have been carried out in these patients. The radiograms obtained have been found useful in detection, description and treatment of this dental anomaly.
