ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate the functions of exocrine islet cell subtypes in the early stage of obesity induced by high-fat diet (HFD), which is accompanied with deterioration of the systemic insulin response and islet subpopulation abnormalities. METHODS: In this study, we analyzed published islet single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets from the early stage induced by HFD feeding. Bioinformatics tools such as findMarkers, Cellchat, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways, and Gene Ontology (GO) terms were applied to identify the different functions of exocrine cell clusters. RESULTS: A total of 26 cell clusters were obtained were identified from this dietary intervention model. Most proportions of cell subtypes were consistent between high-fat diet (HFD) and low-fat diet (LFD) groups, except for partial endocrine islet clusters and exocrine clusters. Most differentiated expression of genes in the HFD group was found in exocrine cluster. And we also found that the cell-cell interactions between ductal and endothelial cells were reduced in the HFD group, with the significant alteration in C17 (ductal) cluster. By further analyzing the co-expression regulatory network of transcription in the C17 cluster, we speculate that differentially expressed transcription factors affected the function of duct cells by affecting the expression of related genes in intercellular interaction networks, thereby promoting insulin resistance (IR) development. CONCLUSION: Our results provide a reference for the function and regulatory mechanisms of exocrine cells in the obesity induced by HFD and probably influence the process of following insulin resistance.

ABSTRACT

Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) can induce massive death of ischemic penumbra neurons via oxygen burst, exacerbating brain damage. Parthanatos is a form of caspase-independent cell death involving excessive activation of PARP-1, closely associated with intense oxidative stress following CIRI. 4'-O-methylbavachalcone (MeBavaC), an isoprenylated chalcone component in Fructus Psoraleae, has potential neuroprotective effects. This study primarily investigates whether MeBavaC can act on SIRT3 to alleviate parthanatos of ischemic penumbra neurons induced by CIRI. MeBavaC was oral gavaged to the middle cerebral artery occlusion-reperfusion (MCAO/R) rats after occlusion. The effects of MeBavaC on cerebral injury were detected by the neurological deficit score and cerebral infarct volume. In vitro, PC-12 cells were subjected to oxygen and glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R), and assessed cell viability and cell injury. Also, the levels of ROS, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and intracellular Ca2+ levels were detected to reflect mitochondrial function. We conducted western blotting analyses of proteins involved in parthanatos and related signaling pathways. Finally, the exact mechanism between the neuroprotection of MeBavaC and parthanatos was explored. Our results indicate that MeBavaC reduces the cerebral infarct volume and neurological deficit scores in MCAO/R rats, and inhibits the decreased viability of PC-12 cells induced by OGD/R. MeBavaC also downregulates the expression of parthanatos-related death proteins PARP-1, PAR, and AIF. However, this inhibitory effect is weakened after the use of a SIRT3 inhibitor. In conclusion, the protective effect of MeBavaC against CIRI may be achieved by inhibiting parthanatos of ischemic penumbra neurons through the SIRT3-PARP-1 axis.

ABSTRACT

Among the intriguing bicontinuous self-assembled structures, the gyroid cubic is the most ubiquitous. It is found in block and star polymers, surfactants with or without solvent, in thermotropic liquid crystals with end- or side-chains, and in biosystems providing structural color and modelling cell mitosis. It contains two interpenetrating networks of opposite chirality and is thus achiral if, as usual, the content of the two nets is the same. However, we now find that this is not the case for strongly chiral compounds. While achiral molecules follow the opposite twists of nets 1 and 2, molecules with a chiral center in their rod-like core fail to follow the 70° twist between junctions in net 2 and instead wind against it by -110° to still match the junction orientation. The metastable chiral gyroid is a high-entropy high-heat-capacity mesophase. The homochirality of its nets makes the CD signal of the thienofluorenone compounds close to that in the stable I23 phase with 3 isochiral nets.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The prevention of cognitive impairment in the elderly is one of the public health priority areas. However, the relationship between closed-eye unipedal standing and cognitive impairment remains unclear. Methods: This study was conducted on a group of elderly individuals from a community, using a prospective cohort study design. Participants were monitored for 7 years and were diagnosed with new-onset cognitive impairment. Logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were used to investigate the relationship between closed-eye unipedal standing and cognitive impairment. Stratified analysis by baseline characteristics were also performed. Results: At baseline, 1,652 people aged 65 years or older were enrolled. Ultimately, 880 participants completed the follow-up and 155 (17.61%) of them satisfied the diagnostic criteria for cognitive impairment at follow-up. Compared to the closed-eye unipedal standing low group as the reference, the middle (OR = 0.601, 95% CI: 0.396-0.911) and high (OR = 0.508, 95% CI: 0.329-0.785) groups had significantly lower cognitive impairment risks. RCS analysis indicated a linear relationship (Pnon - linear = 0.177), with a reduced risk of developing cognitive impairment when the duration of closed-eye unipedal standing was exceeded ~2.920 s. Stratified analysis showed that for female, aged 70 years or younger, with 3 or more years of education, without lack of exercise and without falls within 1 year subgroup, the elderly in the high group of closed-eye unipedal standing had significantly reduced cognitive impairment risks. Conclusion: Among the elderly population, closed-eye unipedal standing duration was linearly and negatively associated with the cognitive impairment risk. The closed-eye unipedal standing duration might be a predictive index for cognitive impairment in the elderly.

Background: The effect of serum lycopene on the progression of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and their longevity remains a controversial topic. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the associations of different isomeric forms of serum lycopene with CVD and all-cause mortality in the American population. Methods: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a large population survey to investigate public health in the US. We analyzed data from 2003-2006 linked with mortality data obtained in 2015. Cox proportional hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated to assess the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality caused by serum lycopene. Results: Among 7452 participants (aged 20-85 years, 46.7% male), 298 died from CVDs among the total 1213 deaths during a median follow-up of 10.7 years. Serum lycopene is a protective factor for all-cause and CVD mortality. In multivariable-adjusted models, the hazard ratio (with 95% confidence intervals) associated with Q4 compared to Q1 of serum total-lycopene, trans-lycopene and cis-lycopene was 0.49 (0.38,0.63), 0.49 (0.39,0.63) and 0.55 (0.43,0.70) for all-cause mortality (Ptrend<0.05), and was 0.53 (0.32,0.96), 0.48 (0.32,0.72) and 0.63 (0.41,0.97) for CVD mortality (Ptrend<0.05). The subgroup analyses showed that different isomeric forms of lycopene showed varied associations with CVD and all-cause mortality based on age, drinking status, history of hypertension and diabetes. Conclusions: Serum lycopene concentration was significantly associated with the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality. Cis-lycopene had a U-shaped relationship with mortality, while trans-lycopene had an inverse relationship with it.

ABSTRACT

Metconazole is one of the widely-used chiral triazole fungicides in controlling wheat leaf rust, powdery mildew, Fusarium head blight with high efficacy, and so forth. In the current work, the effects of chiral stationary phases, alcoholic modifiers, and column temperature on the chiral separation of metconazole were discussed in detail. Amylose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate)-coated chiral stationary phase exhibited much stronger chiral recognition ability toward metconazole stereoisomers in the CO2 /ethanol mixture as compared to the others. Then, a two-step semi-preparative separation of metconazole was performed through supercritical fluid chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography, and the enantiomeric excess values of four stereoisomers were achieved over 98%. Moreover, the enantioselective cytotoxicity of cis-metconazole against HepG2 cells has been investigated, and the order of the cell proliferation toxicity against HepG2 cells was (1R, 5S)-metconazole > (1S, 5R)-metconazole > the mixture. Briefly, this study would provide valuable information in the preparative separation of optically pure metconazole products through chromatographic techniques and their environmental risk assessment.

ABSTRACT

Chlorophyll degradation is an important physiological process and is essential for plant growth and development. However, how chlorophyll degradation is controlled at the cellular and molecular level remains largely elusive. Pectin is a main component of the primary cell wall, and polygalacturonases (PGs) is a group of pectin-hydrolases that cleaves the pectin backbone and release oligogalacturonide. Whether and how PGs affect chlorophyll degradation metabolism and its association with ethylene (ETH) have not been reported before. Here, we report a novel function of PG in a mutant 'high chlorophyll content1' hcc1, which displayed a decrease in growth and yield. Our morphological, biochemical and genetic analyses of hcc1, knockout lines and complementation lines confirm the function of HCC1 in chlorophyll degradation. In hcc1, the PG activity, ETH content and D-galacturonic acid (D-GA) was significantly decreased and showed an increase in the thickness of the cell wall. Exogenous application of ETH and D-GA can increase ETH content and induce the expression of HCC1, which further can successfully induce the chlorophyll degradation in hcc1. Together, our data demonstrated a novel function of HCC1 in chlorophyll degradation via the ETH pathway.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, the physical fitness situation of college students is worrying in China. Exercise motivation is of great importance for the physical activity and physical fitness. However, existing studies have paid limited attention to the specific effect between exercise motivation, physical activity and physical fitness, and even less to the different genders and exercise motivation dimensions. This study aimed to investigate the promoting effect of sport motivation on physical fitness with different gender and dimension in college students. METHODS: Physical fitness levels of 2544 college students in Wuhan and Jingzhou city were measured. Exercise motivation and physical activity was assessed using the Chinese version of the motives for physical activities measure-revised scale and the physical activity survey scale, respectively. Correlation analysis and structural equation model were used to explore the relationship between exercise motivation, physical activity and physical fitness. Bootstrap method was used to test the mediating effect. Multilevel regression analysis was used to examine the effects of different dimensions of exercise motivation on PF. RESULTS: The exercise motivation of college students was directly related to physical fitness (effect value: 0.307) or indirectly related through the mediating effect of physical activity (effect value: 0.092). The mediation effect percentage of physical activity on exercise motivation and physical fitness in male (51.20%) was greater than female (27.18%), and the standardized regression coefficient of the health dimension to PF was ß = 0.151, P < 0.001, and the competence dimension to PF was ß = 0.189, P < 0.001. CONCLUSIONS: The exercise motivation of college students can directly influence PF or indirectly influence PF through the mediating effect of PA. The promoting effect of exercise motivation and PA on PF in college students is related to gender and dimensions of exercise motivation. Therefore, we can improve physical fitness levels of college students by promoting their exercise motivation (especially for health motivation and competence motivation) and increasing their participation in physical activity. This study provides new strategies for improving physical fitness in college students.

ABSTRACT

The fusion of optical and infrared images is a critical task in the field of image processing. However, it is challenging to achieve optimal results when fusing images from complex environments. In this paper, we propose a deep learning network model comprising an encoding network and a decoding network based on the modified U-Net network to fuse low-quality images from complex imaging environments. As both encoding and decoding networks use similar convolutional modules, they can share similar layer structures to improve the overall fusion performance. Furthermore, an attention mechanism module is integrated into the decoding network to identify and capture the crucial features of the fused images. It can assist the deep learning network to extract more relevant image features and thus get more accurate fusion. The proposed model has been compared with some existing methods to prove its performance in view of subjective and objective evaluations.

Polymorphism of semicrystalline polymers has significant influence on their physical properties, with each form having its advantages and disadvantages. However, real-life polymer processing often results in different coexisting crystal polymorphs, and it remains a challenge to determine their shape, spatial distribution, and volume fraction. Here, i-polypropylene (i-PP) sheets containing both α- and ß-forms were prepared either by adding ß-nucleating agent or by fiber pulling-induced crystallization. By adding a compatible dye that is partially rejected from the growing crystalline aggregates (spherulites and cylindrites), we visualize the shape of these objects in 3D using two-photon fluorescence confocal microscopy. To distinguish between crystal forms, we take advantage of the difference in dye-retaining ability of the α- and ß-aggregates. Even in 2D, fluorescence microscopy (FM) distinguishes the two crystal forms better than polarized microscopy. In 3D imaging, the volume fraction and spatial distribution of α- and ß-forms in different morphological types could be determined quantitatively. Morphologies described as α-teeth, ß-fans, and α-teardrops were visualized for the first time in 3D. Furthermore, internal and surface microcracks were seen to be associated predominantly with the ß-form and around the fiber. Spatial distribution of α- and ß-forms was also determined by scanning with a synchrotron X-ray beam. Good agreement was obtained with 3D microscopy, but XRD could not match the detail obtainable by the tomography. The work demonstrates the ability of the 3D imaging method to distinguish different crystal forms and their specific morphologies.

BACKGROUND: The psychological situation of high school students during adolescence is not promising, and the most obvious manifestation is the lack of subjective well-being (SWB). This network analysis presents a model of the interaction and correlation between different items of SWB, identifying the most central items for high school students. METHODS: Through offline and online surveys, 4,378 questionnaires were sent out and finally 4,282 Chinese high school students were available. The response rate was 97.807%. The study used the eLASSO method to estimate the network structure and centrality measures. This algorithm used the EBIC to select the best neighbor factor for each node. RESULTS: The average age for high school students was 16.320 years old and the average SWB score was 76.680. The distribution of SWB between male and female students was significant different (P < 0.001). S8 (Have you been anxious, worried, or upset) was the node with the highest strength and expected influence. The network structure and centrality remained stable after discarding 75% of the sample at random. Except for S15 (How concerned or worried about your health have you been), all nodes were positively correlated with each other (P < 0.01). The network structure of SWB was similar for female and male students (network strength: 8.482 for male participants; 8.323 for female participants; P = 0.159), as well as for rural and urban students (network strength: 8.500 for rural students; 8.315 for urban students; P = 0.140). CONCLUSION: Targeting S8 (Have you been anxious, worried, or upset) as a potential intervention target may increase high school students' SWB effectively.

ABSTRACT

An integrated textile electronic system is reported here, enabling a truly free form factor system via textile manufacturing integration of fiber-based electronic components. Intelligent and smart systems require freedom of form factor, unrestricted design, and unlimited scale. Initial attempts to develop conductive fibers and textile electronics failed to achieve reliable integration and performance required for industrial-scale manufacturing of technical textiles by standard weaving technologies. Here, we present a textile electronic system with functional one-dimensional devices, including fiber photodetectors (as an input device), fiber supercapacitors (as an energy storage device), fiber field-effect transistors (as an electronic driving device), and fiber quantum dot light-emitting diodes (as an output device). As a proof of concept applicable to smart homes, a textile electronic system composed of multiple functional fiber components is demonstrated, enabling luminance modulation and letter indication depending on sunlight intensity.

INTRODUCTION: To identify the association of the cyclin-dependent kinase 5 regulatory subunit associated protein 1-like 1 (CDKAL1) gene polymorphism with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the Chinese population. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This case-control study enrolled 835 pregnant women with GDM and 870 pregnant women without diabetes who underwent antenatal examination during 24 to 28 gestational weeks at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hubei Province from January 15, 2018 to March 31, 2019. Trained nurses collected their clinical information and blood samples. CDKAL1 gene rs10440833, rs10946398, rs4712523, rs4712524, rs7754840, rs7756992 and rs9465871 loci were genotyped by Agena MassARRAY system. SPSS V.26.0 software and online SHesis were used to analyze the relationship between CDKAL1 gene polymorphism and GDM susceptibility. RESULTS: After being adjusted for maternal age, prepregnancy body mass index (BMI), parity and family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), CDKAL1 gene rs10440833 (AA vs TT, OR=1.631, 95% CI 1.192 to 2.232), rs10946398 (CC vs AA, OR=1.400, 95% CI 1.028 to 1.905), rs4712523 (GG vs AA, OR=1.409, 95% CI 1.038 to 1.913), rs4712524 (GG vs AA, OR=1.418, 95% CI 1.043 to 1.929) and rs7754840 (CC vs GG, OR=1.407, 95% CI 1.036 to 1.911) polymorphisms were all associated with the increased risk of GDM. In addition, there was a powerful linkage disequilibrium (LD) among rs10946398, rs4712523, rs4712524 and rs7754840 (D'>0.900, r2>0.900). And there were significant differences in haplotype CGGC (OR=1.207, 95% CI 1.050 to 1.387) and AAAG (OR=0.829, 95% CI 0.721 o 0.952, p=0.008) between the GDM group and the control group. CONCLUSIONS: rs10440833, rs10946398, rs4712523, rs4712524 and rs7754840 of CDKAL1 gene are associated with GDM susceptibility in central Chinese population.

ABSTRACT

Acute inflammatory injury is the primary cause of sepsis, leading to various organ failures. Bazedoxifene (BAZ) has been proven to have anti-inflammatory effects. However, its effects on sepsis-induced intestinal injury are unclear. Here, we demonstrated the beneficial effects of BAZ on intestinal injury and explored the underlying mechanisms using cecal ligation and perforation (CLP)-mediated sepsis mouse model and in vitro cultured intestinal epithelial MODE-K cells. We found that BAZ elevated the survival rate of septic mice and attenuated CLP-triggered intestinal damage. BAZ inhibited intestinal inflammation and restored the impaired intestinal barriers in CLP mice. The mechanistic study in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-stimulated MODE-K cells showed that BAZ significantly downregulated the expression of NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), caspase-1, and gasdermin D (GSDMD), and markedly reduced the phosphorylation of molecules in the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway. Moreover, BAZ prominently rescued the decreased viability of MODE-K cells and reduced lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release upon LPS/ATP challenge. However, BAZ did not affect the inflammasome assembly, as evidenced by the lack of changes in ASC (apoptosis speck-like protein containing a CARD) speck formation. Our results suggest that BAZ relieves inflammation and intestinal barrier function disruption by suppressing the NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathways. Therefore, BAZ is a potential therapeutic candidate for treating intestinal injury in sepsis.

ABSTRACT

InP quantum dots (QDs) are attracting significant interest as a potentially less toxic alternative to Cd-based QDs in many research areas. Although InP-based core/shell QDs with excellent photoluminescence properties have been reported so far, sophisticated interface treatment to eliminate defects is often necessary. Herein, using aminophosphine as a seeding source of phosphorus, we find that H2S can be efficiently generated from the reaction between a thiol and an alkylamine at high temperatures. Apart from general comprehension that H2S acts as a S precursor, it is revealed that with core etching by H2S, the interface between InP and ZnS can be reconstructed with S2- incorporation. Such a transition layer can reduce inherent defects at the interface, resulting in significant photoluminescence (PL) enhancement. Meanwhile, the size of the InP core could be further controlled by H2S etching, which offers a feasible process to obtain wide band gap InP-based QDs with blue emission.

ABSTRACT

Two-photon confocal laser microscopy was used to obtain three-dimensional (3D) images of the morphology of poly(lactic acid) after shear-induced crystallization. The necessary fluorescence contrast was achieved by doping the polymer with Nile Red. The dye gets partially rejected from the growing crystalline aggregates during their formation, thus creating a renderable high-low fluorescence boundary outlining the shape of the aggregates. Parallel-plate melt-shearing and pulling a glass fiber through the melt were used as the two methods to achieve shear-induced crystallization. This study focuses on the shape of the resulting cylindrites, i.e., large-diameter shish-kebabs. The first 3D images of polymer cylindrites show that, if far from boundaries, they are circular cylinders, highly regular after fiber pull, but less so after parallel-plate shear. In the latter case, the cylindrite reveals the trajectory of the foreign particle that had nucleated its growth. Interestingly, lateral growth of the cylindrites was found to accelerate toward the sample surface when approaching it, giving the cylindrite an elliptical cross section. Furthermore and surprisingly, in the case of fiber pull, a row of spherulites is nucleated at the polymer-substrate interface nearest to the fiber, aligned along the fiber axis and appearing ahead of the rest of the space-filling spherulites. Both the phenomena, elliptical cylindrites and row of spherulites, are attributed to negative pressure buildup peaking at the cylindrite growth front and at the nearby film surface caused by crystallization-induced volume contraction. The pressure and flow distribution in the system is confirmed by numerical simulation. The results illustrate the value of 3D imaging of crystalline morphology in polymer science and polymer processing industry.

ABSTRACT

It is of great significance to find new effective drugs for an adjuvant therapy targeting lung cancer to improve the survival rate and prognosis of patients with the disease. Previous studies have confirmed that certain Chinese herbal extracts have clear anti-tumor effects, and in our preliminary study, betulinaldehyde was screened for its potential anti-tumor effects. The current study thus aimed to confirm the anti-tumor effect of betulinaldehyde, using in vitro experiments to explore its underlying molecular mechanism. It was found that betulinaldehyde treatment significantly inhibited the viability, proliferation, and migration of A549 cells in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, betulinaldehyde inhibited the activation of Akt, MAPK, and STAT3 signaling pathways in A549 cells in a time-dependent manner. More importantly, betulinaldehyde also decreased the expression level of SQSTM1 protein, increased the expression level of LC3 II, and increased the autophagy flux in A549 cells. The pretreatment of A549 cells with the autophagy inhibitor, 3-methyladenine, could partially negate the anti-tumor effects of betulinaldehyde. These findings suggest that betulinaldehyde could significantly inhibit the oncological activity of A549 cells by regulating the intracellular autophagy level, making it a potentially effective option for the adjuvant therapy used to treat lung cancer in the future.

ABSTRACT

Intestinal damage has long been viewed as the primary cause of sepsis-induced multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Previous studies have demonstrated that calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) exhibits anti-inflammatory and protective effects in mice exposed to endotoxin. This study investigated whether CGRP protects against sepsis-induced intestinal damage and its underlying mechanisms. Using a murine caecal ligation and puncture (CLP) model, we observed elevated serum and intestinal CGRP levels in septic mice. CGRP knockout (KO) mice showed more severe intestinal barrier damage, excessive NLRP3 inflammasome activation and higher levels of inflammation. In vitro, we used lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to activate the NLRP3 inflammasome in MODE-K murine intestinal epithelial cells. CGRP inhibited NF-κB pathway activation; prevented ASC assembly and ROS accumulation; significantly decreased NLRP3, Caspase-1 p10, and IL-1ß levels and LDH release; and increased cell viability. Treatment with an IL-1ß inhibitor or CGRP suppressed p38 MAPK and ERK1/2 pathway activation and increased ZO-1 and Occludin protein levels in LPS+ATP-treated MODE-K cells. Finally, we used the CGRP upstream agonist drug rutaecarpine (RUT) to control endogenous CGRP release in mice, and this drug demonstrated good therapeutic effects on septic intestinal injury. In conclusion, our results suggest that CGRP ameliorates sepsis-induced intestinal damage, providing valuable insights for drug development.

ABSTRACT

Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a major cause of early death (ED) and leads to poor prognosis in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). We retrospectively described 27 unselected APL patients who experienced early ICH. The ED rate was 37%. The 3-year overall survival (OS) rate was 45.4%, while the 3-year OS rate of patients who survived through induction therapy was 87.5%. No patient experienced central nervous system leukemia (CNSL). Concurrent differentiation syndrome, white blood cell count, prothrombin time and D-dimer were related to death. Although the ED rate among APL patients with early ICH was high, patients with early ICH had a favorable outcome after surviving through induction therapy. CNSL was rare despite a history of ICH during induction therapy. Compared with APL patients without ICH, it seems unnecessary to administer additional measures to prevent CNSL for this subpopulation in the era of all-trans retinoic acid and arsenic trioxide, but this needs further validation in prospective trials.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Primary adrenal lymphoma (PAL) is an extremely rare entity, there were few cases have been reported. We report a 52-year-old female with unilateral PAL. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: A rapid biopsy resulted in the diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma after excluding pheochromocytoma. R-CHOP combined with CNS prophylaxis and autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) has produced an excellent outcome. CONCLUSIONS: Primary adrenal lymphoma (PAL) is a sporadic and highly invasive malignant disease. Symptoms are atypical, making it difficult to obtain an accurate early diagnosis. Adrenal incidentaloma is usually the first clinical manifestation. Some patients may have fever, night sweats, weight loss, and lumbar and abdominal pain. Adrenal insufficiency (AI) may occur in a subset of patients. The identification of other adrenal malignancies, especially catecholamine-secreting tumors, is particularly important for early diagnosis.
