ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aims of this review are to clarify the current state of research in terms of assessment tools and assessors of the quality of health science-related short videos on TikTok, to identify limitations in existing research; and to provide a reference for future studies. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted. The Cochrane Library, PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, EBSCO, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, and CBM databases were searched from September 2016 to November 2022. Manual searching was also performed to identify additional eligible studies. A total of 2620 documents were initially retrieved, and 29 were ultimately included. The literature was screened and collected, and data were extracted and summarized by 2 researchers. RESULTS: (1) The quality evaluation tools used in the 29 papers included the DISCERN, PEMAT(A/V), GQS, JAMA, HONcode, guidelines and self-developed tools. Twenty-four of the included articles used the DISCERN for quality assessment, which was the most frequently used evaluation tool. However, most of these tools were not developed to assess health science-related short videos, lacked credibility tests, and had poor applicability; therefore, the accuracy of the evaluation results might be biased. (2) The assessors of the quality of health science-related short videos on TikTok were mainly experts in related fields and medical students, with doctors (12/14) being the most common evaluators. Fifteen studies did not report the identity of the evaluators, and 12 studies did not report interrater reliability. CONCLUSION: This scoping review found that there is a lack of specific quality assessment tools for health science-related short videos on TikTok. Second, the current quality assessors of health science-related short videos on TikTok are limited. Future research should focus on the development of reliable, scientific quality assessment tools for health science-related short videos; unifying the evaluation standards; inviting users with different backgrounds and different health literacy levels to conduct quality assessments; exploring the quality assessment of health science-related short videos on TikTok from different perspectives.

ABSTRACT

Background: As the Chinese society ages and the concern for health and quality of life grows, the demand for care services in China is increasing. The widespread use of internet technology has greatly improved the convenience and efficiency of web-based services. As a result, the Chinese government has been implementing "Internet+Nursing Services" since 2019, with mobile apps being the primary tools for users to access these services. The quality of these apps is closely related to user experience and the smooth use of services. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the functionality, services, and quality of "Internet+Nursing Service" apps; identify weaknesses; and provide suggestions for improving service programs and the research, development, improvement, and maintenance of similar apps. Methods: In December 2022, two researchers searched for "Internet+Nursing Service" apps by applying the search criteria on the Kuchuan mobile app monitoring platform. After identifying the apps to be included based on ranking criteria, they collected information such as the app developer, app size, version number, number of downloads, user ratings, and number and names of services. Afterward, 5 trained researchers independently evaluated the quality of the apps by using the Chinese version of the user version of the Mobile App Rating Scale (uMARS-C). The total uMARS-C score was based on the average of the five evaluators' ratings. Results: A total of 17 "Internet+Nursing Service" apps were included. Among these, 12 (71%) had been downloaded more than 10,000 times, 11 (65%) had user ratings of 4 or higher, the median app size was 62.67 (range 22.71-103; IQR 37.51-73.47) MB, 16 (94%) apps provided surgical wound dressing change services, 4 (24%) covered first-tier cities, and only 1 (6%) covered fourth-tier cities. The median total uMARS-C score was 3.88 (range 1.92-4.92; IQR 3.71-4.05), which did not correlate with app store user ratings (r=0.003; P=.99). The quality of most apps (11/17, 65%) was average. Most apps (12/17, 71%) were rated as "good" or above (≥4 points) in terms of information quality, layout, graphics, performance, and ease of use; however, the vast majority of apps were rated as "fair" or even "poor" (<4 points) in terms of credibility (14/17, 82%) and demand (16/17, 94%). Conclusions: "Internet+Nursing Service" apps need to broaden their service coverage, increase service variety, and further optimize their service structure. The overall quality of these apps is generally poor. App developers should collaborate with medical professionals and communicate with target users before launching their products to ensure accurate content, complete functionality, and good operation that meets user needs.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: With growing cases of breast cancer, WeChat public account, an important information publishing platform of WeChat, has become a breast cancer treatment health information provider to a huge audience. It is essential for health information to possess high-level accuracy and reliability. This work evaluates the quality of health information on breast cancer treatment in WeChat public accounts (WPAs), to benefit the patients while making treatment decisions and provide WPA authors with suggestions on publishing high-quality treatment health information. METHODS: With "breast cancer" as keywords, searches were implemented on weixin.sogou.com and the WeChat app. The WPAs oriented to patients with breast cancer were selected, and the four latest articles of each WPA were included in a set to be evaluated with DISCERN. RESULTS: A total of 37 WPAs and 136 articles published by them were included. The accounts operated by individual users were 54%. The median of overall quality of 136 articles was 44 (interquartile range = 10.75) and ranked as "fair", of which only 28 (21%) were of "good" or higher quality. Among these articles, 74 (54%) were related to medical treatments, and 13 of them mentioned clinical trials; 36 (27%) dealt with surgery. 101 (74.26%) omitted additional sources of information; 102 (75%) did not explicitly suggest shared decision-making. A significant difference was not found in the dimensions "reliability of the articles" and "specific details of information on treatment choices" between the distinct categories of account subjects and various treatment options (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The quality of the articles on breast cancer treatment health information in WPAs was moderate. WPA producers should focus on improving the reliability of information and providing more details on treatment options, to assist patients in making optimal decisions during treatment.

ABSTRACT

This study was designed to explore the effect of medical-nurse integration health education in aged patients undergoing percutaneous vertebroplasty. A total of 72 aged patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, who obtained percutaneous vertebroplasty from June 2019 to May 2022 were selected in this study. Patients were divided into control group (n = 36) and experimental group (n = 36) according to the time of hospitalization. The patients in control group received routine health education, while the patients in the experimental group received medical-nurse integration health education. We evaluated participants on 4 key aspects, their understanding of relevant knowledge, compliance with functional exercise, residual lower back pain rate, and satisfaction with the health education received. Our study found that patients in the experimental group had a significantly higher mastery rate of health education knowledge compared to those in the control group (88.89% vs 50.00%, P < .001). Additionally, compliance with the functional exercise program was higher in the experimental group, with over 80% of patients fully compliant, compared to only about 44.4% in the control group (P = .001). The average Japanese Orthopaedic Association score of the observation group 1 week after operation was higher than that of the control group (P < .05). Moreover, most patients in the experimental group were very satisfied with the medical-nurse integration health education, while most patients in the control group were only satisfied (P < .001). For aged patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures treated by percutaneous vertebroplasty, medical-nurse integration health education could be an effective method to improve the ability of patients to obtain relevant education, enhance the compliance of patients for functional exercise and increase patient satisfaction to the education, and reduce residual low back pain in patients.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Nurse-led hospice teams are an emerging trend in contemporary health care practice in China. However, Chinese nursing students are often ill-prepared to work in hospice care. Study findings on the attitude of nursing students toward the care of people who are dying and death varied among different countries and regions. OBJECTIVES: To propose and empirically test a mediating model that examines how death attitude and meaning in life interact to affect Chinese undergraduate nursing students and their attitude toward the care of people who are dying. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS: A convenience sample of 1410 Chinese undergraduate nursing students. METHODS: Data were collected from July to December 2020 using Chinese versions of the Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale, Form B (FATCOD-B-C), Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R-C), and Purpose in Life Test (CPLT-C). SPSS version 22.0 and AMOS version 24.0 were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The average FATCOD-B-C score was 98.28 ± 8.02. Death attitude and meaning in life were positively correlated with attitude toward care of the dying (p < 0.001), but death attitude was negatively correlated with meaning in life (p < 0.001). Pathway analysis showed that fear of death was significantly and positively correlated with attitude toward care of people who are dying. A mediating role was found among neutral acceptance, escape acceptance, and meaning in life to some extent. Meaning in life suppressed effects among the model. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that Chinese undergraduate nursing students' attitude toward care of the dying was a positive nurturing process. Future nurse education should first identity the fear of death, neutral acceptance, or escape acceptance of nursing students' death attitude, and then develop a hospice curriculum based on fear management.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Few options are available for preserving female fertility to postpone childbirth. Although egg freezing with successful thawing is now possible, women' attitudes towards its use or the circumstances under which this technique may be considered remain unclear. METHODS: This study is a cross-sectional online survey. From November 2020 to January 2021, 848 questionnaires were collected through the Questionnaire Star Network platform, and a total of 750 valid answers were obtained. RESULTS: For more than 40% of the interviewees, the level of knowledge about egg freezing was only 0-25%; 36.9% of the interviewees supported elective egg freezing, and the main factor affecting their approval was major; approximately 60% of interviewees believed that being married should not be a condition for freezing eggs; and 56.7% of the interviewees supported the establishment of an egg bank in China, and the main factor affecting their acceptance was the place of residence. CONCLUSION: College students generally have a high level of recognition regarding elective egg freezing and the establishment of an egg bank, but their level of knowledge about egg freezing is low. Relevant knowledge must be strengthened to help college students achieve a correct understanding of elective egg freezing and egg bank establishment and then guide college students in developing a scientific dialectical attitude towards this technology.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To assess the readability of printed education materials (PEMs) for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to explore the perceptions of patients with SLE with different health literacy regarding the readability of PEMs. DESIGN: A mixed-methods study, including a cross-sectional survey and semistructured interviews. SETTING: The SLE PEMs were collected from 13 hospitals in China. The interviews were conducted in the Department of Rheumatology of a hospital in Hefei, China. PARTICIPANTS: In the cross-sectional survey, convenience sampling was used to select the Chinese SLE PEMs, with 20 PEMs included. In the qualitative study, the patients with SLE were divided into two groups based on their health literacy. Then, purposive sampling was used to select participants in each group, with 18 patients recruited. OUTCOME MEASURES: The readability of PEMs was assessed by the language analysis technology and the Chinese version of the Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM-C) instrument. RESULTS: For text factors of readability, the mean Chinese language difficulty coefficient was 67.09±8.03, which indicates that the text of PEMs was difficult to read. For non-text factors, the mean SAM-C score was 45.62±9.51. Eight PEMs were rated not suitable, 12 were adequate and none were superior. In the interviews, eight categories were identified: information source, content, actionability, plain language, pictures, tables, numbers and layout. Patients with different health literacy had discrepant views on the detail of basic information, the necessity of question list, the location of functional pictures and the application of mathematical symbols. CONCLUSIONS: The readability of Chinese SLE PEMs does not perform well, and it is necessary to reduce the difficulty of words, shorten the length of sentences and improve the picture design and actionability. To develop PEMs tailored to patients' level of health literacy, patients' unique view of readability should be integrated into the design of PEMs.

ABSTRACT

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects multiple organs. Because of double damages of body and mind, SLE patients are in a potential risk of suicide. Many factors may contribute to the occurrence of suicide in SLE: socioeconomic factors, medical factors, mental health, family support and coping style. This study aims to investigate the prevalence and correlates of suicidal ideation in SLE inpatients in China in order to determine whether they had risk of suicide, and if so, what factors should be paid more attention to prevent suicide in wards. A total of 285 SLE patients were interviewed with questionnaires on suicidal ideation and socio-demographic characteristics, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Family APGAR and Trait Coping Style Questionnaire (TCSQ). Disease activity was assessed with SLE Disease Activity Index. The other medical information was collected from the patients' medical records. In total, 34.4% of SLE patients had current suicidal ideation. Significant individual risk factors for current suicidal ideation in SLE patients included having religious belief, heavy self-reported financial burdens, long duration of SLE, low level of family functioning and negative coping style. And in the presence of these risk factors, being separated, divorced or widowed, having premorbid suicidal ideation and depression were independent predictors of suicidal ideation. In summary, the rate of suicidal ideation in SLE patients in China is higher than that in other countries. Factors that contribute to risk of suicidal ideation include social and cultural domains and physical and psychological health. Although the association of suicidal ideation to religions and medical factors is still to be investigated, these findings may give some references to suicide prevention efforts for SLE patients in China.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of suicidal ideation among systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and to assess the psychological susceptibility of suicidal ideation. METHODS: 324 SLE patients in Hefei city were interviewed with questionnaires, including Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and Trait Coping Style Questionnaire (TCSQ) and self-made questionnaire to collect information on suicidal ideation, social-demographic characteristics, etc. T test was used to compare the scores of personality and coping styles with national psychological norms. These odds ratios (95%CI) of the two factors for suicidal ideation were calculated by logistic regression, adjusted to socio-demographic factors. RESULTS: Current suicidal ideation was present in 108(33.3%) of 324 SLE patients. The standard scores of neuroticism (49.81 ± 10.03, t = 15.327, P < 0.01) and psychoticism (49.84 ± 9.73, t = 3.142, P < 0.01) were both higher than norms (neuroticism: 41.27 ± 9.42; psychoticism: 48.14 ± 9.74). The standard score of extrovision and introvision (50.43 ± 9.90) was lower than norm (57.75 ± 8.26) (t = -13.317, P < 0.01). Both scores of positive coping (34.36 ± 7.86) and negative coping (28.87 ± 7.79) were higher than norms of female healthy group (PC: 29.32 ± 8.96, NC: 22.34 ± 7.47) (t values were 11.543 and 15.102, P values all < 0.01) and patients' group (PC: 29.15 ± 9.28, NC: 25.36 ± 8.42) (t values were 8.122 and 11.932, P values all < 0.01). After adjusting the social-demographic variables, neurotic personality (OR = 1.110, 95%CI: 1.072 - 1.149) and high level of negative coping (OR = 1.069, 95%CI: 1.030 - 1.109) were significantly correlated with suicidal ideation in SLE patients. CONCLUSION: The rate of suicidal ideation in SLE patients in China was a little higher. Neurotic personality and negative coping were the psychological susceptibility of suicidal ideation in SLE patients.
