ABSTRACT

Chiral nonlinear metasurfaces could natively synergize nonlinear wavefront manipulation and circular dichroism, offering enhanced capacity for multifunctional and multiplexed nonlinear metasurfaces. However, it is still quite challenging to simultaneously enable strong chiral response, precise wavefront control, high nonlinear conversion efficiency, and independent functions on spins and chirality. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate multiplexed third-harmonic (TH) holograms with four channels based on a chiral Au-ZnO hybrid metasurface. Specifically, the left- and right-handed circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) components of the TH holographic images can be designed independently under the excitation of an LCP (or RCP) fundamental beam. In addition, the TH conversion efficiency is measured to be as large as 10-5, which is 8.6 times stronger than that of a bare ZnO film with the same thickness. Thus, our work provides a promising platform for realizing efficient and multifunctional nonlinear nanodevices.

ABSTRACT

Valleytronics is a promising candidate to address low-energy signal transport on chip, leveraging the valley pseudospin of electrons as a new degree of freedom to encode, process and store information1-7. However, valley-carrier nanocircuitry is still elusive, because it essentially requires valley transport that overcomes three simultaneous challenges: high fidelity, high directionality and room-temperature operation. Here we experimentally demonstrate a nanophotonic circuit that can route valley indices of a WS2 monolayer unidirectionally via the chirality of photons. Two propagating modes are supported in the gap area of the circuit and interfere with each other to generate beating patterns, which exhibit complementary profiles for circular dipoles of different handedness. Based on the spin-dependent beating patterns, we showcase valley fidelity of chiral photons up to 98%, and the circulation directionality is measured to be 0.44 ± 0.04 at room temperature. The proposed nanocircuit can not only enable the construction of large-scale valleytronic networks but also serve as an interactive interface to integrate valleytronics3-5, spintronics8-10 and integrated photonics11-13, opening new possibilities for hybrid spin-valley-photon ecosystems at the nanoscale.

ABSTRACT

Herein, we demonstrate a highly tunable enhancement and switching of nonlinear emission from all-inorganic metal halide perovskites based on an asymmetrically biased metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structure. We achieve 2 orders of magnitude enhancement of the two-photon-pumped photoluminescence (TPL) from CsPbBr3 microplates with the MIS structure, due to comprehensive effects including localized field effect, trap-filling effect, and collection enhancement. In particular, taking advantage of electric-field-induced passivation/activation of Br vacancies, we realize highly tunable TPL enhancement, ranging from ∼61.2-fold to ∼370.3-fold. Moreover, we demonstrate an efficient modulation of the two-photon-pumped lasing from the MIS structure, which exhibits electric field induced switching with a high on/off ratio of 67:1. This work has opened new avenues for steering carrier transport and nonlinear emission in lead halide perovskites, which shows great promise for realizing high-efficiency and tunable nonlinear nanophotonic devices.

ABSTRACT

Strong coupling between emitters and cavities underlies many of the current strategies aiming at generating and controlling quantum states at room temperature. Recent experiments reveal strong coupling between two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and individual plasmonic structures; however, the coupling strength is quite limited (<200 meV), and the active control of the coupling strength is challenging. Here, we demonstrate the active tuning of plexcitonic coupling in monolayer WS2 coupled to a plasmonic nanocavity by immersing into a mixed solution of dichloromethane (DCM) and ethanol. By adjusting the mixture ratio, continuous tuning of the Rabi splitting energy ranged from 183 meV (in ethanol) to 273 meV (in DCM) is achieved. The results are mainly attributed to the remarkable increase of the neutral exciton density in monolayer WS2 as the concentration of DCM is increased. It offers an important stepping stone toward a further study on plexcitonic coupling in layered materials, along with potential applications in quantum information processing and nonlinear optical materials.

ABSTRACT

In this work, we present an experimental study on the acoustic vibrations of ZnO nanoparticles array with different concentration of Ga dopings by using femtosecond pump-probe technique. The Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) nano-triangle particles with the sizes of 190, 232 and 348 nm are fabricated by nanosphere lithography and pulsed laser deposition method. The result indicates that the frequency of acoustic vibrations of GZO nanoparticles decrease as the Ga-concentration is increased. Importantly, the vibration period of the GZO nanoparticles at the same Ga doping concentration show a nonlinear increase as the nanoparticle size is increased, which is different from the common linear dependency in undoped ZnO nanoparticles. It may be attributed to the crystal structure distortion and elastic characteristics variation due to Ga doping, and the elastic modulus at 7.3% Ga doping is decreased by 30%-60% for GZO nanoparticles with different sizes. The study can be very helpful for evaluating the crystal structure distortion and elastic characteristics of doped nano-materials with optical methods. Besides, it can offer a complementary method of thermal management in ZnO based optoelectronic devices.
