ABSTRACT

Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cells therapy is a milestone achievement in the immunotherapy of relapsed and refractory (R/R) B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). However, some patients treated with CAR-T cells do not achieve complete remission, the mechanisms of which have not been elucidated. In the present study, we report a 9-year-old pediatric patient with refractory B-ALL received a triple infusion of autologous CD19 CAR-T cells therapy after the second relapse. CAR-T cells expanded in the peripheral blood and bone marrow. However, the patient did not achieve complete remission, indicating a lack of response to CAR-T cells therapy. Analysis of etiological factors revealed that the number of CD4 and CD8 double-negative T (DNT) cells was significantly upregulated in the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and autologous CAR-T cells products. In conclusiont, these findings indicate that DNT cells mediated resistance to CAR-T cells therapy in this pediatric patient with R/R B-ALL.

ABSTRACT

There is an increasing interest in introducing ecosystem services (ESs) and landscape ecological risk (LER) into environmental policies and governance. Yet, we know little about how to integrate LER into real decision-making and ESs management. Using the ESs valuation method and the models of InVEST and LER, this study analyzed the spatiotemporal changes of cropland food production, carbon storage, water yield, biodiversity index and LER of Bailongjiang watershed (BLJW), China in 1990, 2002 and 2014, and the relationship between them. We found clear spatial differences in both ESs and LER levels in BLJW during the study period. The cropland food production service kept rising, and the areas of high yield mainly distributed in the loessal regions of BLJW with intensive human population. The carbon storage, water yield and biodiversity index first decreased and then increased. The LER was higher in the areas along the valleys with low elevation and intensive human activities. The regional ecological zoning based on overlay analysis of ESs with LER is effective for providing interactive spatial knowledge for adaptive landscape management. Our results illustrate the integrative approach on linking landscape ecological risk with ecosystem services is a comprehensive and helpful methodology for both regional risk reduction and ecosystem services enhancement at landscape scale.

ABSTRACT

The Bailongjiang watershed of Gansu is an important water conservation and ecological barrier area in the upper reaches of Yangtze River. It is necessary to reveal the tradeoffs and synergies of ecosystem services (ESs) for the "win-win" of watershed ecological system and social eco-nomy development. Based on the InVEST model, four typical ESs including soil conservation (SC), water conservation (WC), food supply (FS), and habitat quality (HQ) were assessed, and the multi-scale tradeoffs and synergies of ESs and its drivers were analyzed by correlation and root mean square deviation (RMSD). The results showed that there were significant synergies among SC, WC, and HQ, and a significant tradeoff between FS and HQ, SC, WC, respectively. The areas with high tradeoff intensity between the three pairs of synergistic services (SC-WC, SC-HQ, WC-HQ), and between FS and HQ were mainly concentrated in the steep forest area of middle-high mountain in Wenxian, Diebu and Zhouqu. The high intensity of tradeoffs between FS-SC, FS-WC were mainly concentrated in the gentle apricus farming and pastoral areas of middle-low mountain in Tanchang and Wudu. The spatial variation of land use/cover caused by human activities was an important factor affecting the degree of ES tradeoffs and its scale effect.

ABSTRACT

Ecosystem services (ESs) are the research highlight and hot topic in ecology, geography and environmental economics. Based on the literature database on ecosystem services from Web of Science, Citespace, Carrot 2 and textual analysis were used to review the progresses of ESs research during 1997-2018. The results showed that ESs research institutions and its publications increased quickly in the latest 20 years. The main leading countries on ecosystem services research were the United States, UK, Germany, China and Australia, with the United States being the first in terms of literature volume and the influence. Although the research of ESs in China started relatively late, its development was rapid and the scientific research output increased significantly. Meanwhile, there was a huge gap to the international level, the quality and influence of literature should be improved, and the international cooperation and exchange need to be enhanced too. The hotspots and frontiers of ecosystem services mainly included evaluation methods and models, climate change, biodiversity, land use change, trade-off and synergy, scientific research for decision-making and management. The further research and practice trends include the mechanism of ESs, the indicators and methods for ESs evaluation, the spatiotemporal dynamics of ESs trade-offs and synergies and influencing factors, the coupling relationship between ecosystem services and human well-being, and the scientific research and social needs for sustainable development for decision-making and management.
