ABSTRACT

Numerous defects exist at the buried interface between the perovskite and adjacent electron transport layers in perovskite solar cells, resulting in severe non-radiative recombination and excessive open-circuit voltage (VOC) loss. Herein, a dual defect passivation strategy utilizing guanidine sulfate (GUA2SO4) as an interface modifier is first reported. On the one hand, the SO4 2- preferentially interacts with Pb-related defects, generating water-insoluble lead oxysalts complexes. Additionally, GUA+ diffuses into the perovskite and induces the formation of low-dimensional perovskite. These reactions effectively suppress trap states at the buried interface and perovskite boundaries in printable mesoscopic perovskite solar cells (p-MPSCs), thus increasing the carrier lifetime. Meanwhile, GUA2SO4 optimizes the interface energy band alignment, thus accelerating the charge extraction and transfer at the buried interface. This synergistic effect of trap passivation and interface energy band alignment modulation is strongly demonstrated by an increase in average VOC of 70 mV and the power conversion efficiency improvement from 17.51% to 18.70%. This work provides a novel approach to efficiently improve the performance of p-MPSCs through dual-targeted defect passivation at the buried interface.

ABSTRACT

The paper introduces professor ZHUANG Li-xing's clinical experience in treatment of dyskinesia of Parkinson's disease with acupuncture at triple-acupoint prescription. In pathogenesis, dyskinesia of Parkinson's disease refers to yang deficiency and disturbing wind. In treatment, acupuncture focuses on warming yang, promoting the circulation of the governor vessel, regulating the spirit and stopping trembling; and Baihui (GV 20), Suliao (GV 25) and Dingchanxue (Extra) are selected to be "trembling relief needling". In combination with Jin's three needling, named "three-trembling needling" "three-governor-vessel needling" and "three-spasm needling", the triple-acupoint prescription is composed. To ensure the favorable therapeutic effect, this prescription is modified according to the symptoms and the specific techniques of acupuncture are combined such as conducting qi, harmonizing yin and yang, and manipulating gently for reinforcing and reducing.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of Tiaohe Yinyang acupotomy (acupotomy for regulating and harmonizing yin and yang) for knee osteoarthritis (KOA). METHODS: A total of 88 patients with KOA were randomized into a acupotomy group and a sham-acupotomy group, 44 cases in each group. In the acupotomy group, acupotomy was applied at yin side (4-5 high stress points i.e. pes anserinus and terminal of popliteus) and yang side (1-2 high stress points i.e. stimulation point of infrapatellar ligament and suprapatellar bursa) of knee joint. In the sham-acupotomy group, sham-acupotomy was applied at the same points as the acupotomy group. The treatment was given once a week for 2 weeks in the two groups. Before and after treatment, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities arthritis index (WOMAC) score, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, thickness of medial and lateral collateral ligaments of knee joint, motion range of knee joint and plantar pressure distribution were observed in the two groups. In the follow-up of 3 months after treatment, the WOMAC and VAS scores were recorded in the acupotomy group. RESULTS: After treatment, the sub item scores (pain, stiffness and function) and total scores of WOMAC and VAS scores were decreased in the both groups (P<0.05), pain score, function score and total score of WOMAC and VAS score in the acupotomy group were lower than those in the sham-acupotomy group (P<0.05). Before and after treatment, there were no statistical differences in thickness of medial and lateral collateral ligaments of knee joint and motion range of knee joint between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the plantar medial pressure was increased while the plantar lateral pressure was decreased (P<0.05), and the plantar force line moved medially in the acupotomy group. In the follow-up, the sub item scores and total score of WOMAC and VAS score were lower than those before and after treatment in the acupotomy group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Tiaohe Yinyang acupotomy can improve the clinical symptoms of knee joint in patients with KOA by changing the local biological stress.

BACKGROUND: Myopia is a global public health issue. Controlling myopia progression is a primary focus of myopia studies today. Peripheral retinal myopic defocus is considered the mechanism for reduced myopia progression in orthokeratology studies. The topographic change in the front corneal surface after laser refractive surgery and orthokeratology procedures may appear similar. The purpose of this study was to explore the role of myopic laser ablation on axial length (AL) growth. METHODS: Myopic patients who underwent monocular excimer laser refractive surgery first in one eye and then in another eye several years later because of myopia occurrence or myopia progression were recruited. The axial length elongation and refraction (spherical equivalent) between the two eyes were observed and compared. RESULTS: A total of 8 myopic patients were enrolled in the study. The AL increased from 24.52 ± 0.96 mm to 24.68 ± 1.03 mm but without significance (T = 1.49, P > 0.05) in the ablated eyes. The AL increased significantly from 23.73 ± 0.91 mm to 24.26 ± 0.95 mm in the nonablated eyes (T = 6.76, P < 0.001). The AL elongation of the ablated eyes with 0.16 ± 0.30 mm growth was significantly lower than that of the nonablated eyes with 0.53 ± 0.32 mm growth (T = 8.98, P < 0.001). The spherical equivalent (SE) increased significantly in the ablated eyes (- 0.59 ± 0.21 (D), T = 6.36, P < 0.001) and in the nonablated eyes (- 0.97 ± 0.55 (D), T = 4.91, P < 0.01), and the difference between the two eyes was significant (T = 3.05, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The inhibitory effect of myopic laser ablation on AL elongation reported in the limited case studies argues for animal research on its efficacy as a new intervention for myopia progression.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, a fast processing route involving a wet-chemical method (solution combustion synthesis, SCS) and carbonization in a CH4 environment was demonstrated, through which nanosized Ni/WC/C powder with an average size of 80 nm was obtained. In the catalyst powder, Ni was evenly distributed and it could form NiOOH to promote catalysis, and an amorphous carbon (C) layer with a thickness of <10 nm was formed on the surface of the composite particles, improving the stability of the Ni/WC powder and promoting electron transport. Due to the characteristics of uniformity and a large specific surface area and the synergistic effect of Ni, WC, and C, this powder showed significantly improved ORR catalytic activity in alkaline solution. When the amount of Ni doping was 15 wt%, the composite powder showed the smallest particle size and the best ORR catalytic performance. Its cathode peak potential was -0.31 V and the half wave potential was -0.34 V. The number of electrons transferred in the ORR reaction was 3.6. This work provided a fast and cheap method for the preparation of multicomponent composite catalyst materials.

ABSTRACT

The therapeutic effect of acupuncture is often closely related to the improvement of microcirculation. Acupuncture stimulation can adjust pathophysiological changes of microcirculation in the human body through multiple ways, multiple links and multiple levels, healing disorders at last. Laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI), an emerging technology, can be used to study the effect of acupuncture on microcirculation. In this paper, retrieving the related literature published in recent years, we found that LSCI technology has already been applied to the following aspects 1) acupoint-viscera and microcirculation, 2) stimulation-induced transmission of sensations along the meridian and microcirculation, 3) non-meridians or non-acupoints and microcirculation, 4) specific acupoints and microcirculation, as well as 5) different acupuncture needle manipulations and microcirculation. However, most of the studies focused on animal experiments and healthy subjects, observing microcirculatory effects under normal physiological conditions, and the sample size of participants was smaller. In the future, we highly recommend that increasing the sample size and further studying the local microcirculation are necessary in the pathological state of diseases.

OBJECTIVE: To objectively evaluate the safety of acupoint catgut embedding therapy. METHODS: A total of 331 patients who received acupoint catgut embedding therapy were enrolled and summarized through the inpatient medical record system, follow-up record and adverse reaction report card. The statistical analysis was performed from the aspects of patients' gender, age, marital status, history of allergy, history of diabetes and the time, symptoms, duration and prognosis of adverse reactions, etc. RESULTS: Among 331 patients who received acupoint catgut embedding therapy, 70 patients had adverse reactions, which were divided into 9 types, including post-treatment discomfort, local hematoma or subcutaneous hemorrhage, local swelling, local induration, severe pain, thread-body rejection, local pruritus, post-treatment body temperature rising, local redness, swelling, fever and pain. The incidence rate of adverse events was 21.15%, and the incidence of serious adverse events was 0. Among the patients with adverse reactions, 58 patients (82.86%) relieved without treatment, and 12 patients (17.14%) received after symptomatic treatment; all patients had no sequelae. CONCLUSION: The acupoint catgut embedding therapy is relatively safe and the incidence of adverse reactions is low.

ABSTRACT

Establishment of a stable analytical methodology with high-quality results is an urgent need for screening cancer biomarkers in early diagnosis of cancer. In this study, we incorporate holographic optical tweezers with upconversion luminescence encoding to design an imageable suspension array and apply it to conduct the detection of two liver cancer related biomarkers, carcinoembryonic antigen and alpha fetal protein. This bead-based assay is actualized by forming a bead array with holographic optical tweezers and synchronously exciting the upconversion luminescence of corresponding trapped complex beads fabricated with a simple one-step sandwich immunological recognition. Owing to the fact that these flowing beads are stably trapped in the focal plane of the objective lens which tightly converges the array of the laser beams by splitting a 980 nm beam using a diffraction optical element, a fairly stable excitation condition is achieved to provide reliable assay results. By further taking advantage of the eminent encoding capability of upconversion nanoparticles and the extremely low background signals of anti-Stokes luminescence, the two targets are well-identified and simultaneously detected with quite sound sensitivity and specificity. Moreover, the potential on-demand clinical application is presented by employing this approach to respond the targets toward complex matrices such as serum and tissue samples, offering a new alternative for cancer diagnosis technology.

ABSTRACT

A rapid biosensor for the detection of cyromazine in milk is reported based on a fluorescence quenching result. When an FAM labelled G-rich ssDNA Tcy2 is treated with cyromazine, it can form a G-quadruplex-CYR complex and cause a change in fluorescence. As a result, the presence of cyromazine can be determined by fluorescence quenching. This sensor is selective for the detection of cyromazine in raw milk and has a limit of detection of 0.68 ppb and a detection range from 0 to 200 ppb.

ABSTRACT

As an emerging fascinating fluorescent nanomaterial, carbon nanodots (CDs) have attracted much attention owing of their unique properties such as small size, antiphotobleaching, and biocompatibility. However, its use in biomedical analysis is limited because of its low quantum yield. Herein, we constructed a dual amplification fluorescence sensor by incorporating immunohybridization chain reaction (immuno-HCR) and metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) of CDs for the detection of alpha fetal protein (AFP). The immunoplasmonic slide and detection antibodies-conjugated oligonucleotide initiator are served to capture and probe AFP molecules, respectively. Then, CD-tagged hairpin nucleic acids were introduced to trigger the HCR, in which the hairpin nucleic acid and oligonucleotide initiator are complementary. The interaction between CDs and the gold nanoisland film greatly improves the radiative decay rate, increases the quantum yield, and enhances the fluorescence emission of the CDs. Furthermore, the HCR provides secondary amplification of fluorescence intensity. Therefore, the MEF-capable immunohybridization reactions provide obvious advantages and result in exceptional sensitivity. In addition, the sandwich immunoassay method offers high specificity. The results show a wide linearity between the fluorescence intensity and AFP concentration over 5 orders of magnitude (0.0005-5 ng/mL), and the detection limit reaches as low as 94.3 fg/mL. This method offers advantages of high sensitivity and reliability, wide detection range, and versatile plasmonic chips, thus presenting an alternative for the technologies in biomedical analysis and clinical applications.

ABSTRACT

Seed germination behavior is an important factor in the distribution of species. Many studies have shown that germination is controlled by phylogenetic constraints, however, it is not clear whether phylogenetic constraints or environmental cues explain seed germination of a genus from a common ancestor. In this study, seed germination under different temperature- and water-regimes [induced by different osmotic potentials of polyethylene glycol (PEG)] was investigated in the phylogenetically-related Caragana species that thrive in arid, semiarid, semihumid and humid environments. The results showed that the final percentage germination (FPG) decreased from 95% in species from arid habitats to 0% in species from humid habitats, but with no significant phylogenetic signal. Rather, the response of seed germination to temperature and PEG varied greatly with species from arid to humid habitats and was tightly linked to the ecological niche of the species, their seed coat structure and abscisic acid concentration. The findings are not consistent with the hypothesis that within a family or a genus, seed germination strategies can be a stable evolutionary trait, thus constraining interspecific variation, but the results clearly show that seed germination of Caragana species distributed across a range of habitats has adapted to the environment of that habitat.

ABSTRACT

A three-layer core-shell nanostructure consisting of a silver core, a silica spacer, and a fluorescent dye RuBpy-doped outer silica layer was fabricated, and the optimal metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) distance was explored through adjusting the thickness of the silica spacer. The results show that the optimal distance is ∼10.4 nm with the maximum fluorescence enhancement factor 2.12. Then a new target-triggered MEF 'turn-on' strategy based on the optimized composite nanoparticles was successfully constructed for quantitative detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA), by using RuBpy as the energy donor and BHQ-2 as the acceptor. The hybridization of the complementary DNA of PSA-aptamer immobilized on the surface of the MEF nanoparticles with PSA-aptamer modified with BHQ-2, brought BHQ-2 in close proximity to RuBpy-doped silica shell and resulted in the decrease of fluorescence. In the presence of target PSA molecules, the BHQ-PSA aptamer is dissociated from the surface of the nanoparticles with the fluorescence switched on. Therefore, the assay of PSA was achieved by measuring the varying fluorescence intensity. The results show that PSA can be detected in the range of 1-100 ng ml-1 with a detection limit of 0.20 ng ml-1 (6.1 pM), which is 6.7-fold increase of that using hollow RuBpy-doped silica nanoparticles. Moreover, satisfactory results were obtained when PSA was detected in 1% serum.

The world health organization figures show prostate cancer in developed countries has been the second primary cause of cancer mortality following lung cancer for the men. So, early and sensitive diagnosis of cancer is very important before it spreads out to the other organs of the body. It is well-known that prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is the most specific and efficient tumor marker for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Herein, we successfully fabricated core-shell composite fluorescent nanoparticle Ag@SiO2@SiO2-RuBpy which provide a photoluminescence enhancement of up to ~3-fold when the separation distance between the surface of silver core and the center of the third RuBpy doped silica shell is about 10nm. These core-shell MEF-capable nanoparticles have obvious advantages. The interaction between the doped RuBpy molecules in the outer silica layer and the silver core, greatly improves the excitation efficiency and enhances the fluorescence intensity. Importantly, the presence of silica can reduce the self-quenching of RuBpy, which makes larger amounts of RuBpy incorporated into the silica shell. In addition, the shell protects the RuBpy against collisional quenching and irreversible photodegradation and provides abundant hydroxyl for easy conjugation. After that a highly sensitive, specific and reliable strategy based on metal-enhanced fluorescence and magnetic separation was applied for the detection of PSA in both buffer and serum. The process could be rapidly accomplished, in which the immunomagnetic nanospheres (IMNs) and immunofluorescent nanoparticles (IFNs) were used to capture and identify the target molecules simultaneously. A good linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity and the concentration of PSA (0.1-100ng/mL) with a detection limit 27pg/mL was obtained.

ABSTRACT

We constructed a recombinant vaccine of Mycobacterium tuberculosis rBCG-Rv2029c,and then identified it.Rv2029c antigen encoding gene was amplified by PCR.The enzyme digestion products were ligated into rpMV261-2029c recombinant plasmid,after double digestion of Rv2029c and pmv261 vector,and then we introduced the plasmid into BCG to construct rBCG-Rv2029c recombinant vaccine by electroporation method.Finally,we analyzed the expression of the recombinant protein by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting.A total of 1 020 bp Rv2029c gene successfully amplified by PCR was inserted into the plasmid pmv261,then the fusion gene was successfully transduced into BCG.After identified by double enzyme digestion,confirmed by gene alignment and by thermally induced with Western blotting,the recombinant protein had a free primary.The recombinant live vaccine of M.tuberculosis rBCG-Rv2029c is successfully constructed,which lay a foundation for the study of the immune mechanism of recombinant vaccine.

ABSTRACT

Based on the remarkable difference between the interactions of carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) oxide with single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), and the fact that fluorescence of DNA-stabilized silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) can be quenched by CNPs oxide, DNA-functionalized AgNCs were applied as label-free fluorescence probes and a novel fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) sensor was successfully constructed for the detection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) DNA sequences. CNPs oxide were prepared with the oxidation of candle soot, hence it is simple, time-saving and low-cost. The strategy of dual AgNCs probes was applied to improve the detection sensitivity by using dual- probe capturing the same target DNA in a sandwich mode and as the fluorescence donor, and using CNPs oxide as the acceptor. In the presence of target DNA, a dsDNA hybrid forms, leading to the desorption of the ssDNA-AgNCs probes from CNPs oxide, and the recovering of fluorescence of the AgNCs in a HIV-DNA concentration-dependent manner. The results show that HIV-DNA can be detected in the range of 1-50nM with a detection limit of 0.40nM in aqueous buffer. The method is simple, rapid and sensitive with no need of labeled fluorescent probes, and moreover, the design of fluorescent dual-probe makes full use of the excellent fluorescence property of AgNCs and further improves the detection sensitivity.

Plants from different functional groups show distinct response to nitrogen (N) addition, however, the patterns and underlying mechanisms across the natural N availability gradient remain unexplored. In present studies, effects of soil N fertility on aboveground N pools and production were examined, and the N: P stoichiometry was compared among forbs, graminoids, and legumes on an alpine grassland located in northeast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Mean N: P ratios of the whole community in 2008 and 2009 were 9. 83 and 11.57, respectively, indicating that the sub-alpine grassland was mainly N-limited. The partial redundancy analysis (partial RDA) showed that the biomass percentage of forbs increased, while those of legumes and graminoids decreased with the soil N availability. It suggested that legumes and graminoids were more competitive than forbs in the natural N-limited grassland, which may be due to the N2-fixation ability and high nutrient use efficiency, respectively. Under the projected increasing N deposition, the vegetation tended to shift from graminoids and legumes to forbs. Significant relationships were found between the percentage of legumes biomass and N: P (phosphorus) ratio for the whole community and non-legumes, indicating that legumes could improve the community N status as well as non-legumes N status on the alpine grassland.

Predawn leaf water potential (LWP), the LWP between 09:00 and 10:30 h (termed minimum LWP), stem xylem hydraulic conductivity, foliar nitrogen, leaf gas exchange and leaf traits were measured on the same days in adults and 1-year-old to 7-year-old resprouts that had regrown after removing all the aboveground shoots. Height growth and accumulation of aboveground biomass quickly decreased with resprout age and there was no difference between 7-year-old resprouts and the uncut adults. Predawn LWP showed no significant difference between resprouts and adults, but the minimum LWP decreased gradually from -2.0 MPa in 1-year-old resprouts to -3.0 MPa in 7-year-old resprouts. The decrease in minimum LWP was associated with increased hydraulic resistance, as indicated by the gradual decrease in leaf area-specific hydraulic conductivity (KL) and sapwood area-specific hydraulic conductivity (KS) and the associated increase in stem native percentage loss of hydraulic conductivity in older than 2-year-old resprouts. The leaf nitrogen content per unit area (Narea) also decreased steadily from 3.6 g m(-2) in 1-year-old resprouts to 1.7 g m(-2) in 7-year-old resprouts. With the decline in LWP and Narea, the rate of leaf photosynthesis per unit area (Aarea) decreased from 20 µ mol m(-2) s(-1) in 1-year-old resprouts to 11 µ mol m(-2) s(-1) in 7-year-old resprouts. In adults, although KS decreased further compared with 7-year-old resprouts, the minimum LWP, KL, Narea and the rate of photosynthesis increased by 0.3 MPa, 29, 34 and 23%, respectively. The results show that a progressive loss of stem hydraulic conductivity and a steady decrease in foliar nitrogen with age were associated with a decrease in the photosynthetic rate of Caragana korshinskii Kom. resprouts, possibly changing the allocation of photosynthetic assimilates and slowing resprout height growth.

ABSTRACT

Objective To develop and optimize a module for the automatic production of N-succinimidyl-4-[18F] fluorobenzoate (18F-SFB) that is used for further 18F labelling C2A domain of Synaptotagmin Ⅰ . The conjugated compound was applied for detecting the tumor apoptosis in rabbit model after chemotherapy. Methods GE TRACERlab and TRACERlab FXF-N modules were modified and programmed to automatically produce 18 F-SFB which was further analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).C2A-glutathione S transferase (GST) was conjugated with 18F-SFB (18F-FB-C2A-GST) and subsequently purified by HPLC. Two rabbits grafted with VX2 lung cancer were first treated with chemotherapy and then,37 MBq of 18F-FB-C2A-GST was administered via the auricular vein. Serial PET/CT imagings were performed at 0.5, 1 and 2 h post-injection respectively. Tumor apoptosis was examined by pathological study. Results The TRACERlab FXFoG and TRACERlab FXF-N modules were successfully adapted to synthesize18F-SFB, with the radiochenmical yield (76.41 ±4.00)% (n = 10), the corrected yield (45.43 ±5.90 ) % and the radiochemical purity about 95%. The whole procedure for labeling 18 F-SFB was about 87 min.From PET/CT imagings, significant uptake was found in the tumor after chemotherapy, but no obvious up-take was found in heart, lungs and liver. HE staining demonstrated large number of apoptotic bodies within the tumor tissues. Conclusions 18 F-SFB can be automatically synthesized. 18F-FB-C2A-GST might be useful for the detection of apoptosis in tumor after chemotherapy.
