ABSTRACT

The Amur tiger is an important endangered species in the world, and its re-identification (re-ID) plays an important role in regional biodiversity assessment and wildlife resource statistics. This paper focuses on the task of Amur tiger re-ID based on visible light images from screenshots of surveillance videos or camera traps, aiming to solve the problem of low accuracy caused by camera perspective, noisy background noise, changes in motion posture, and deformation of Amur tiger body patterns during the re-ID process. To overcome this challenge, we propose a serial multi-scale feature fusion and enhancement re-ID network of Amur tiger for this task, in which global and local branches are constructed. Specifically, we design a global inverted pyramid multi-scale feature fusion method in the global branch to effectively fuse multi-scale global features and achieve high-level, fine-grained, and deep semantic feature preservation. We also design a local dual-domain attention feature enhancement method in the local branch, further enhancing local feature extraction and fusion by dividing local feature blocks. Based on the above model structure, we evaluated the effectiveness and feasibility of the model on the public dataset of the Amur Tiger Re-identification in the Wild (ATRW), and achieved good results on mAP, Rank-1, and Rank-5, demonstrating a certain competitiveness. In addition, since our proposed model does not require the introduction of additional expensive annotation information and does not incorporate other pre-training modules, it has important advantages such as strong transferability and simple training.

ABSTRACT

In this study, we synthesized a molecule GA-1MT (GM) composed of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) inhibitor (1-methyl-d-tryptophan, 1MT) called NLG8189 and gallic acid (GA) and verified its therapeutic effect on B16F10 melanoma cells and an orthotopic tumor-bearing mouse model. The synthesized molecule GM was analyzed by 1H NMR and mass spectrometry (MS). In addition, we confirmed that GM could mediate the immune response in the B16F10 cell tumor model by flow cytometry and immunofluorescence. The synthesized GM molecule could increase the solubility of 1MT to enhance the drug efficacy and lower costs. Moreover, GM could inhibit melanoma growth by combining 1MT and GA. In vivo experiments showed that GM could effectively inhibit the expression of tyrosinase, regulate the proportion of CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, and regulatory T cells (Treg cells) in tumors, and significantly suppress melanoma growth. The newly synthesized drug GM could more effectively inhibit melanoma than GA and 1MT alone or in combination.

ABSTRACT

Viscosity reduction of heavy oil has economic benefits and applicational value in the field. Applying viscosity reduction technology of heavy oil with ultrasound, this paper examines the influence of ultrasonic irradiation time and the addition of tetralin and ethylene glycol on viscosity reduction of heavy oil. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) and Gas Chromatograph (GC) were used to analyze the chemical compositions and structural changes of oil samples before and after ultrasonic irradiation, and the effects of ultrasound on viscosity changes are presented. The viscosity reduction rate (VRR) was best at an irradiation time of 6 mins under the current experimental conditions, with VRR reaching more than 80%. When the irradiation time reached 12 mins, the viscosity of oil samples increased conversely. Chemical analysis reveals that the light components in the oil samples increased after the ultrasonic irradiation, indicating that the cavitation, thermal, and mechanical effects of ultrasound could play a role in breaking long chains of carbon, thus reducing the viscosity. The increase in viscosity may have been caused by a reassociation between molecules and/or the coking of heavy oil.

ABSTRACT

Prostaglandin E synthases (PGESs) convert cyclooxygenase (COX)-derived prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) into prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and comprise at least three types of structurally and biologically distinct enzymes. Two of these, namely microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1) and mPGES-2, are membrane-bound enzymes. mPGES-1 is an inflammation-inducible enzyme that converts PGH2 into PGE2. mPGES-2 is a bifunctional enzyme that generally forms a complex with haem in the presence of glutathione. This enzyme can metabolise PGH2 into malondialdehyde and can produce PGE2 after its separation from haem. In this review, we discuss the role of PGESs, particularly mPGES-1 and mPGES-2, in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. A better understanding of the roles of PGESs in liver disease may aid in the development of treatments for patients with liver diseases.

ABSTRACT

Osteosarcoma is the most frequent primary bone tumor that affects adolescents and children. However, diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for osteosarcoma remain lacking. (Tim-3) T-cell immunoglobulin domain and mucin domain-3, which negatively regulates T cell helper (Th1) cells and affects cytokine expression, has attracted increasing attention due to its critical role in regulating both adaptive and innate immune cells. In this study, we evaluated serum soluble Tim-3 level in osteosarcoma patients to explore its diagnostic and prognostic value for this particular malignancy. Serum soluble Tim-3 level was measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 120 osteosarcoma patients, 120 benign bone tumors patients and 120 healthy controls, followed by analysis of the correlation with clinic pathological characteristics. Receiver operating curves, Kaplan-Meier curves, and log-rank analyses as well as Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic significance. Serum solubleTim-3 level was remarkably elevated in osteosarcoma patients. Osteosarcoma patients with larger tumor size, late stages and distant metastases were accompanied with higher levels of Tim-3. ROC/AUC analysis indicated thatTim-3 served as a reliable marker to distinguish healthy participants from Tim-3 patients. Osteosarcoma patients with higher Tim-3 had relatively lower survival. Multivariate analyses for overall survival revealed that high serum soluble Tim-3 level was an independent prognostic factor for osteosarcoma. Furthermore, Tim-3 levels of CD8+ and CD4+ T cells were elevated in peripheral circulation of osteosarcoma patients. Therefore, It was indicated in our research that elevated serum soluble Tim-3 level might be a novel potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for osteosarcoma patients.

ABSTRACT

Using converter slag as curing stabilizing agents, applying Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy method of tracking and detection of heavy metals in soil remediation effect of slag powder, and the micro-structure of mixtures (slag powder and heavy metal contaminated soils). It can establish soft sensor mode which is based on Gaussian process regression slag powder on heavy metal contaminated soil remediation effect. by using Gaussian process regression. The results show that the steel slag powder on heavy metals contaminated soil has good repairing effect, 180 d within its restorative effects are maintained over 90%; the repair process is divided into early, middle and late stages, in which the early (1~3 d) repair mode is given priority to with ion exchange high alkaline environment, medium-term (7~42 d) ion exchange and gel setting weaken the enhanced role of the late (56~180 d) form a large number CSH gel, the gel solidification further strengthened; based on Gaussian process regression Steel slag powder on heavy metal contaminated soil remediation effect soft measurement model of the real and predicted values agree well with the data, the absolute error is -1.35 ~-0.48, relative error of -1.448%~-0.497%.

ABSTRACT

A quasi-emulsion phenomenon of cavitation structure in a thin liquid layer (the thin liquid layer is trapped between a radiating surface and a hard reflector) is investigated experimentally with high-speed photography. The transformation from cloud-in-water (c/w) emulsion to water-in-cloud (w/c) emulsion is related to the increase of cavitation bubble cloud. The acoustic field in the thin liquid layer is analyzed. It is found that the liquid region has higher acoustic pressure than the cloud region. The bubbles are pushed from liquid region to cloud region by the primary Bjerknes forces. The rate of change of CSF increased with the increase of CSF. The cavitation bubbles on the surface of cavitation cloud are attracted by the cavitation bubbles inside the cloud due to secondary Bjerknes forces. The existence of surface tension on the interface of liquid region and cloud region is proved. The formation mechanism of disc-shaped liquid region and cloud region are analysed by surface tension and incompressibility of cavitation bubble cloud.

ABSTRACT

Temporal evolution and spatial distribution of acoustic cavitation structures in a thin liquid layer were investigated experimentally with high-speed photography. The inception and disappearance processes of cavitation bubble cloud revealed that the metastable cavitaton structures formed in the thin liquid layer caused a long-term "memory effect". A factor which weakens the memory effect was identified. The distribution of cavitation nuclei was investigated by changing the temporal decay of the memory effect.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the association between early sex initiation and subsequent unsafe sexual behaviors and risks among Chinese female undergraduates. Of 4769 participants, 863 (18.1%) reported ever having sexual intercourse. The mean age of sexual debut was 19.3 (±1.7) years. Females initiating sex earlier were more likely to have first sex with men who were not their "boyfriends" and less likely to take contraception, to use a condom at first encounter, to use contraception consistently in past year, and/or to use condom consistently during the course of a sexual intercourse. They were more likely to have multiple lifetime and concurrent sexual partners, to report pregnancy, and be diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases. Comprehensive early sex education should be advocated for young people, not only teaching knowledge of physical health but also providing practical skills training for making them consciously delay start of sexual activity or protecting themselves during sexual intercourse.

ABSTRACT

The generation and control of acoustic cavitation structure are a prerequisite for application of cavitation in the field of ultrasonic sonochemistry and ultrasonic cleaning. The generation and control of several typical acoustic cavitation structures (conical bubble structure, smoker, acoustic Lichtenberg figure, tailing bubble structure, jet-induced bubble structures) in a 20-50 kHz ultrasonic field are investigated. Cavitation bubbles tend to move along the direction of pressure drop in the region in front of radiating surface, which are the premise and the foundation of some strong acoustic cavitation structure formation. The nuclei source of above-mentioned acoustic cavitation structures is analyzed. The relationship and mutual transformation of these acoustic cavitation structures are discussed.

ABSTRACT

High-density controllable bubble structures are produced in the vicinity of radiating surface by artificially implant nuclei. Two kinds of typical cavitation structures produced by artificially implant nuclei are investigated. The focusing action and the physical origin of jet-induced cone-like bubble structure are analyzed. The sonochemical activity of cavitation structures is measured by using the standard method of potassium iodide dosimetry. The controllability of cavitation bubble cluster in the acoustic field is also discussed in this work.

ABSTRACT

To get information in the sexual and contraceptive behaviors in Chinese female college students, a randomized cluster sampling was conducted in colleges and universities in Wuhan Area, China, in terms of types of colleges, subjects (literature, sciences, medicines, art etc), and grades etc. A total number of 2450 questionnaires were distributed, with 2365 questionnaires returned being valid. The return rate of valid questionnaires was 96.6%. The questionnaire investigation was conducted on a multiple-choice and anonymous basis. Data were input into computer and SPSS12.0 software package was employed for statistical analysis. Among the female students, 1196 had the experiences of hug and kiss (50.57%) and 423 (17.89%) had sexual experiences (sexual intercourse). The first sexual intercourse took place at the age of 19.23+/-1.74 y. There were significant differences in the sexual experiences among the majors of different subjects, with the rate of sexual experiences in art majors (43.17%) and high-grade students (34.31%) being the highest. The causes of the first sexual intercourse included sexual impulse, curiosity, intention to strengthen the relationship or to show loyalty to boyfriend and sometimes violence. While the motives of the sexual intercourse within the past one year before the investigation were to satisfy the sexual needs and to strengthen the relation with their boyfriends. With both first intercourse and sexual experiences within last one year, the partners of the sexual intercourse were mainly their boyfriends (95.7% and 97.3% respectively), but the partners also included acquaintances, "one night stand" partners and customers of sex trade. Some of them had multiple sexual partners, with the highest number of the sexual partners being 11. In the first sexual intercourse of the subjects, 44.0 % of them did not take any contraceptive measures; only 16.4% of them used condoms. In the sexual intercourse within the last one year, only 44.6% took contraceptive measures every time they had sexual intercourse. Among those who took contraceptive measures, 64.4% used condoms. Among those who had sexual intercourse, 101 persons got pregnant, with a rate of pregnancy being 4.3%, accounting for 23.9% of all who had sexual intercourse. Among those who got pregnant, 78 persons got pregnant once; the others became pregnant more than two times, the highest being 5 times. There were 122 persons who had inflammation of reproductive system, mostly vaginitis. Other conditions included venereal warts and herpes genitalis. It is concluded that the rate of sexual behaviors is high in female college students and there exist promiscuity, unexpected pregnancy and transmission of STD in the students.

ABSTRACT

The 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer regions (ISRs) of Fusobacterium necrophorum subsp. necrophorum and F. necrophorum subsp. funduliforme were characterized. Products of two sizes, about 360 bp (small) and 530 bp (large), were generated by PCR amplification from the 16S-23S rRNA ISR of all the strains tested. The large and small 16S-23S rRNA ISRs of F. necrophorum exhibited a level of sequence similarity of 93.9% to 99.7% and 94.2% to 98.6% homologies within the species, respectively. Only the large spacer regions in these bacteria contained one or two tRNA genes. F. necrophorum subsp. necrophorum contains the isoleucine and alanine tRNA gene, whereas F. necrophorum subsp. funduliforme contains the isoleucine tRNA gene.

ABSTRACT

The 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer regions (ISRs) of five strains of "Fusobacterium pseudonecrophorum" which had been proposed as a new species, were compared with those of F. varium ATCC 8501T. All the strains of "F. pseudonecrophorum" exhibited of sequence similarities of 97.7% to 100% to the strain of F. varium in their 16S-23S rRNA ISR sequences. This indicates that the strains of "F. pseudonecrophorum" and the type strain of F. varium are identical at the species level.
