ABSTRACT

Dual-band electrochromic materials (DBEMs) are of utmost importance for smart windows to realize independent control of the visible (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) light. However, very few single-component DBEMs are capable of independently and effectively controlling both VIS and NIR light. Here, we present Prussian blue (PB) with remarkable performance to replace the composite DBEMs that require deliberate design and complicated preparation. Excellent durability and capacity were achieved simultaneously due to the activated low-spin Fe in PB. A dual-band electrochromic device (DBED) by using PB thin films as electrochromic layers was constructed, exhibiting superior dual-band electrochromic performance, energy storage performance and memory effect. We show that the energy-saving DBED can be bleached without applying any external bias potential, and can be colored by using a commercial photovoltaic solar panel under ambient solar irradiation. The stored energy during coloration can be further used to light up the lights. Finally, the coloration mechanism of the DBED was studied by the density functional theory calculations, to shed light on the large optical transmittance modulation in both VIS and NIR regions. The new insights will advance the design of efficient and durable DBEMs and the development of bi-functional smart windows.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: As a simple and invasive treatment, arthroscopic medial meniscal posterior horn resections (MMPHRs) can relieve the obstructive symptoms of medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs) but with the risk of aggravating biomechanical changes of the joint. The aim of this study was to analyze dynamic simulation of the knee joint after medial meniscus posterior root tear and posterior horn resection. METHODS: This study established static and dynamic models of MMPRTs and MMPHRs on the basis of the intact medial meniscus model (IMM). In the finite element analysis, the three models were subjected to 1000 N axial static load and the human walking gait load defined by the ISO14243-1 standard to evaluate the influence of MMPRTs and MMPHRs on knee joint mechanics during static standing and dynamic walking. RESULTS: In the static state, the load ratio of the medial and lateral compartments remained nearly constant (2:1), while in the dynamic state, the load ratio varied with the gait cycle. After MMPHRs, at 30% of the gait cycle, compared with the MMPRTs condition, the maximum von Mises stress of the lateral meniscus (LM) and the lateral tibial cartilage (LTC) were increased by 166.0% and 50.0%, respectively, while they changed by less than 5% during static analysis. The maximum von Mises stress of the medial meniscus (MM) decreased by 55.7%, and that of the medial femoral cartilage (MFC) increased by 53.5%. CONCLUSION: After MMPHRs, compared with MMPRTs, there was no significant stress increase in articular cartilage in static analysis, but there was a stress increase and concentration in both medial and lateral compartments in dynamic analysis, which may aggravate joint degeneration. Therefore, in clinical treatments, restoring the natural structure of MMPRTs is first recommended, especially for physically active patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The debate on the superiority of single- or double-bundle for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction has not ceased. The comparative studies on intra-articular biomechanics after different surgical reconstructions are rare. This study is to evaluate the biomechanical stress distribution intra-knee after single- and double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction by three-dimensional finite element analysis, and to observe the change of stress concentration under the condition of vertical gradient loads. METHODS: In this study, magnetic resonance imaging data were extracted from patients and healthy controls for biomechanical analysis. Patients included in the three models were matched in age and sex. The strength and distribution of induced stresses were analyzed in two frequently used procedures, anatomical single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and anatomical double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, using femoral-graft-tibial system under different loads, to mimic a post-operation mechanical motion. The three-dimensional finite-element models for normal ligament and two surgical methods were applied. A vertical force simulating daily walking was performed on the models to assess the interfacial stresses and displacements of intra-articular tissues and ligaments. The evaluation results mainly included the stress of each part of ligament and meniscus. The stress values of different parts of three models were extracted and compared. RESULTS: The stress of ligament/graft at femoral side of three finite-element models was significantly higher than at tibial side, while the highest level was observed in single-bundle reconstruction finite-element model. With the increase of force, the maximum stress in the medial (7.1-7.1 MPa) and lateral (4.9-7.4 MPa) meniscus of single-bundle reconstruction finite-element model shifted from the anterior horn to the central area (p = 0.0161, 0.0479, respectively). The stress was shown to be at a lower level at femoral side and posterior cruciate ligament of intra-knee in two reconstruction finite-element models than that in normal finite-element models, while presented higher level at the tibial side than normal knee (p = 0.3528). The displacement of the femoral side and intra-knee areas in reconstruction finite-element models was greater than that in normal finite-element model (p = 0.0855). CONCLUSION: Compared with the single-bundle technique, the graft of double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction has better stress dissipation effect and can prevent postoperative meniscus tear more effectively.

ABSTRACT

Covalently-bound organic silicate-aluminum hybrid coagulants (CBHyC) have been shown to efficiently remove low molecular weight organic contaminants from wastewater. However, the interaction dynamics and motivations during the coagulation of contaminant molecules by CBHyC are limited. In this study, a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation showed that CBHyC forms core-shell structure with the aliphatic carbon chains gather inside as a core and the hydrophilic quaternary ammonium-Si-Al complexes disperse outside as a shell. This wrapped structure allowed the coagulant to diffuse into solutions easily and capture target contaminants. The adsorption of anionic organic contaminants (e.g., diclofenac) onto the CBHyC aggregates was driven equally by van der Waals forces and electrostatic interactions. Cationic organic contaminants (e.g., tetracycline) were seldom bound to CBHyC because of substantial repulsive forces between cationic molecules and CBHyC. Neutrally-charged organic molecules were generally bound through hydrophobic interactions. For adenine and thymine deoxynucleotide, representatives of antibiotic resistance genes, van der Waals forces and electrostatic interaction became the dominant driving force with further movement for adenine and thymine, respectively. Driving forces between target contaminant and coagulant directly affect the size and stability of formed aggregate, following the coagulation efficiency of wastewater treatment. The findings of this study enrich the database of aggregation behavior between low molecular weight contaminants and CBHyC and contribute to further and efficient application of CBHyC in wastewater treatment.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Familial gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by an array of clinical manifestations. Only 35 kindreds with germline KIT mutations and six with germline PDGFRA mutations have been reported so far. It is often characterized by a series of manifestations, such as multiple lesions and hyperpigmentation. However, the effect of imatinib treatment in these patients is still uncertain. CASE SUMMARY: Here, we report two patients (father and daughter) in a Chinese family (for the first time) with germline KIT mutation, and described their pathology, genetics and clinical manifestations. A 25-year-old Chinese woman went to hospital because of abdominal pain, and computed tomography showed multiple tumors in the small intestine. Small pigmented spots appeared on the skin within a few months after birth. Her father also had multiple pigmented spots and a history of multifocal GISTs. Multiple GISTs associated with diffuse interstitial Cajal cells (ICCs) hyperplasia were positive for CD117 and DOG-1. Gene sequencing revealed a germline mutation at codon 560 of exon 11 (p.V560G) of KIT gene in these two patients. Imatinib therapy showed the long-lasting disease stability after resection. Remarkably, the hypopigmentation of the skin could also be observed. Luckily germline KIT mutation has not been identified yet in the 3-year-old daughter of the female patient. CONCLUSION: Diagnosis of familial GISTs depends on combination of diffuse ICCs hyperplasia, germline KIT/PDGFRA mutation, hyperpigmentation and family history.

ABSTRACT

Identifying allergen distribution is meaningful and significant for effective diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases. This study compared the allergen sensitivity in four southern China cities. We enrolled 55,432 participants (27,408 male, 28,024 female) between 2007 and 2019. The allergen-specific IgE levels were compared by the χ2 test. The five prevalent sensitivities were for mite mix (10,985, 19.82%), cockroach (4,860, 8.77%), crab (4,450, 8.03%), fish mix (3,874, 6.99%), and house dust (3,486, 6.29%). Almost all allergen sensitivities decreased with age, particularly from infant to middle aged participants (p < 0.05). An exception was Shenzhen, where food allergen positive rates remained constant in all age groups studied. The proportion of male sensitive to at least one food allergen (OR 1.130; 95% CI 1.088-1.174, p < 0.0025) or aeroallergen (OR, 1.117; 95% CI, 1.078-1.158, p < 0.0025) was higher than female in all four cities. Except for dog dander and tree mix, all aeroallergens differed significantly between seasons (p < 0.05). Liuzhou had the highest rates of food allergen- and aeroallergen-positive participants. The allergen-specific IgE distribution differed among the studied cities, with significant seasonal differences. Young age, male sex, and aeroallergens were risk factors for allergic disease.

ABSTRACT

A family of cyano-bridged 3d-4f 1D chain compounds, {RE[TM(CN)6(2-PNO)5]}·(H2O)4 {RE = YIII, TM = [FeIII]LS (1); RE = DyIII, TM = CoIII (3); RE = ErIII, TM = [FeIII]LS (4), CoIII (5); 2-PNO = 2-picoline-N-oxide} and {RE[TM(CN)6(2-PNO)5]} {RE = DyIII, TM = [FeIII]LS (2)}, were synthesized and characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal that compounds 1 and 3-5 are isostructural, while compound 2 has a similar 1D chain structure with a different chain to chain arrangement. An axially-elongated pentagonal bipyramidal (D5h) coordination geometry is formed with five 2-PNO ligands in the equatorial plane and two [TM(CN)6]3- on the apical sites around the rare earth ions in these compounds. A comparison of the magnetic relaxation behaviour in detail reveals that it is more favorable for the Er (4 and 5) than the Dy analogues (2 and 3) to exhibit SIM properties in this axially-elongated D5h coordination environment. Under zero dc field, ac susceptibility measurements show that the Dy analogues have no magnetic relaxation behaviour, while the Er analogues exhibit frequency dependence despite the strong QTM effect. Under a 1 kOe dc field, the Er analogues generally show 1-2 orders of magnitude longer relaxation time at each selected temperature and a higher relaxation energy barrier than the Dy analogues. And the RECo compounds (3 and 5) show a more suppressed QTM effect than the corresponding REFe (2 and 4) compounds, which may be ascribed to the elimination of the fluctuation field from the neighbouring [FeIII]LS ions. The ab initio calculations indicate the misplacement between the orientation of the main magnetic axis and the structural axis in the Dy analogues, and the relative consistency in the Er analogues, which should be the source of the Er analogues showing better SIM properties than the Dy analogues.

ABSTRACT

A key issue for constructing optical and redox-active receptors is how to conjugate a specific sensing kernel with a multi-signal-responsive system to carry out multi-feature analysis. Mercury is considered to be highly toxic to human health and ecological security. In this work, we present a novel near-infrared optical and redox-active receptor that can sense Hg2+ at ppb level in aqueous media via multi-model monitors with a low detection limit of 8.4 × 10-9 M (1.68 ppb). This receptor features a visible detection, 'off-on' fluorescence response, and efficient electrochemistry assessment, as well as pH-insensitivity to Hg2+ with high sensitivity. In view of its marked near-infrared emission and fluorescence enhancement, we successfully applied this receptor to visualize Hg2+ in live cells. Furthermore, a possible sensing model was established and rationalized with theoretical studies.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of posterior scleral contraction to treat myopic foveoschisis (MF). METHODS: The records of MF patients treated with posterior scleral contraction were reviewed. During posterior scleral contraction, a cross-linked fusiform strip from allogeneic sclera was used and designed axial length (AL) shortening amount was around 2.0∼3.0 mm based on preoperative AL. The middle part of the strip was placed at the posterior pole of the eye. After few aqueous humors were released, the strip was tightened to contract posterior sclera and shorten AL. Clinical data were collected at pre-operation (op) and post-op follow-ups for 12 months. RESULTS: Twenty-four eyes were collected. The AL at pre-op, post-op 1-week, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month were 29.84 ± 1.24, 27.39 ± 1.32, 27.73 ± 1.23, 27.86 ± 1.26, and 27.91 ± 1.29 mm. There was no AL difference between post-op 6-month and 12-month (P = 0.242). The accumulated MF reattachment rate at post-op 1-week, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month were 8.3%, 16.7%, 50.5%, and 95.8%. The best-corrected visual acuity at post-op 6-month and 12-month were 0.71 ± 0.39 (Snellen acuity 20/80) and 0.64 ± 0.37 (Snellen acuity 20/63), improving significantly compared with pre-op (P = 0.006 and <0.001). CONCLUSION: The posterior scleral contraction was effective to treat MF. The AL stabilized after post-op 6-month and MF reattached gradually with improved visual acuity up to post-op 12-month.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading causes of disability and death in modern times, whose evaluation and prognosis prediction have been one of the most critical issues in TBI management. However, the existed models for the abovementioned purposes were defective to varying degrees. This study aims to establish an ideal brain injury state clinical prediction model (BISCPM). METHODS: This study was a retrospective design. The six-month outcomes of patients were selected as the end point event. BISCPM was established by using the split-sample technology, and externally validated via different tests of comparison between the observed and predicted six-month mortality in validating group. TBI patients admitted from July 2006 to June 2012 were recruited and randomly divided into establishing model group and validating model group. Twenty-one scoring indicators were included in BISCPM and divided into three parts, A, B, and C. Part A included movement, pupillary reflex and diameter, CT parameters, and secondary brain insult factors, etc. Part B was age and part C was medical history of the patients. The total score of part A, B and C was final score of BISCPM. RESULTS: Altogether 1156 TBI patients were included with 578 cases in each group. The score of BISCPM from validating group ranged from 2.75 to 31.94, averaging 13.64 ± 5.59. There was not statistical difference between observed and predicted mortality for validating group. The discrimination validation showed that the BISCPM is superior to international mission for prognosis and analysis of clinical trials (IMPACT) lab model. CONCLUSION: BISCPM is an effective model for state evaluation and prognosis prediction of TBI patients. The use of BISCPM could be of great significance for decision-making in management of TBI.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Recurrent cystic echinococcosis (CE) with vital organ involvement is a challenge for clinicians. Herein, we report a case of aortic involvement in recurrent retroperitoneal CE lesions following primary splenic CE resection. CASE SUMMARY: A 60-year-old male was admitted due to progressive abdominal pain and poor appetite. He was diagnosed with multiple recurrent CE with abdominal aortic involvement according to preoperative evaluation. During surgical resection, major aortic bleeding accidentally occurred while dissecting the cyst, which was firmly attached to the abdominal aortic wall. Hemostasis attempts were conducted to deal with this emergency situation and maintain circulation. Post-interventional recovery was uneventful, and 2-year follow-up showed no sign of recurrence or any other complications. CONCLUSION: Radical resection of recurrent complicated CE with aortic involvement should be carefully planned and performed to prevent possible severe adverse complications, thereby improving the postoperative outcome.

ABSTRACT

A class of cyano-bridged 3d-4f zig-zag chain compounds, {RE[TM(CN)6] (PNO)2(H2O)4}·(H2O) {RE = YIII, TM = [FeIII]LS (1); RE = DyIII, TM = [FeIII]LS (2), CoIII (3)}, have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The rare earth ions in these compounds are situated in a slightly distorted triangular dodecahedral (D2d) coordination environment. The magnetic properties of compounds 1-3 have been comparatively studied in detail. Under a zero dc field, the temperature dependence of ac susceptibility measurements for YFe (1) indicates the absence of magnetic relaxation stemming from the single anisotropic [FeIII]LS ion. The dysprosium analogue DyFe (2) shows only magnetic relaxation behavior with a prominent QTM effect, while DyCo (3) exhibits SIM properties not completely covered by QTM, with an extracted energy barrier of 73 K under a zero dc field. The ab initio calculations indicate that both compounds 2 and 3 are SMMs with well-behaved magnetic relaxation properties primarily from the individual DyIII ion. Therefore, the different magnetic behaviors exhibited by compound 2 compared to 3 may be ascribed to the stronger QTM effect caused by the extra weak interaction of [FeIII]LS ions in 2 as a fluctuating transverse field around the DyIII ion. The QTM effect for both 2 and 3 is suppressed under an applied dc field with an effective energy barrier of 134 and 150 K, respectively. Compared with compound 2, the higher extracted Ueff/kB and χ''(T) peak temperature for 3 should be further attributed to its slightly higher single-ion axiality as calculated and the elimination of the transverse field from the [FeIII]LS ion.

ABSTRACT

A major controversy was sparked worldwide by a recent national water census claiming that the number of Chinese rivers with watersheds ≥100 km2 was less than half the previous estimate of 50 000 rivers, which also stimulates debates on the potential causes and consequences. Here, we estimated the number of rivers in terms of stream-segmentation characteristics described by Horton, Strahler and Shreve stream-order rules, as well as their mixed mode for named rivers recorded in the Encyclopedia of Rivers and Lakes in China. As a result, the number of 'vanishing rivers' has been found to be highly relevant to statistical specifications in addition to the erroneous inclusion of pseudo-rivers primarily generated in arid or frost-thaw areas. The modified Horton stream-order scheme reasonably depicts the configuration of complete natural streams from headwater to destination, while the Strahler largely projects the fragmentation of the named river networks associated with human aggregation to the hierarchical river systems.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To investigate the surgical outcomes of posterior scleral reinforcement (PSR) using genipin-cross-linked sclera to treat macular hole retinal detachment (MHRD) in highly myopic eyes. METHODS: Nineteen patients with high myopia (19 eyes) with MHRD were treated sequentially with genipin-cross-linked PSR and were followed at least for 1 year after the surgery. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), axial length (AL), optical coherence tomography (OCT) outcomes and the complications were evaluated. RESULTS: Macular hole was closed in 73.7% of the eyes, foveal reattachment rate was 100%. The mean logMAR BCVA improved from 1.27±0.55 preoperatively to 0.88±0.55 postoperatively. The preoperative AL (29.88±1.97 mm) was decreased (27.73±1.84 mm) after the operation (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: For at least a 1-year period of follow-up, PSR with genipin-cross-linked sclera should be considered as a preferred surgical approach to treat MHRD in highly myopic eyes, especially when foveal retinoschisis is also documented.

ABSTRACT

Two new penta-borates, tris-odium zinc cadmium penta-borate, Na3Zn0.912Cd0.088B5O10, and tris-odium zinc magnesium penta-borate, Na3Zn0.845Mg0.155B5O10, have been synthesized by high-temperature solution reactions at 1023 K. Their crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both solid solutions crystallize in the ortho-rhom-bic form of the parent compound Na3ZnB5O10 (space group type Pbca, Z = 8) and contain the double ring [B5O10]5- anion composed of one BO4 tetra-hedron and four BO3 triangles as the basic structural motif. The anions are bridged by tetra-hedrally coordinated and occupationally disordered M2+ (M = Zn/Cd, Zn/Mg) cations via common O atoms to form [MB5O10] n3n- layers. The intra-layer inter-secting channels and the inter-layer voids are occupied by Na+ cations to balance the charge.

ABSTRACT

Objectives To estimate the short term effect of particulate air pollution (particle diameter <10 µm, or PM10) on mortality and explore the heterogeneity of particulate air pollution effects in major cities in China.Design Generalised linear models with different lag structures using time series data.Setting 38 of the largest cities in 27 provinces of China (combined population >200 million).Participants 350 638 deaths (200 912 in males, 149 726 in females) recorded in 38 city districts by the Disease Surveillance Point System of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 1 January 2010 to 29 June 2013.Main outcome measure Daily numbers of deaths from all causes, cardiorespiratory diseases, and non-cardiorespiratory diseases and among different demographic groups were used to estimate the associations between particulate air pollution and mortality. Results A 10 µg/m3 change in concurrent day PM10 concentrations was associated with a 0.44% (95% confidence interval 0.30% to 0.58%) increase in daily number of deaths. Previous day and two day lagged PM10 levels decreased in magnitude by one third and two thirds but remained statistically significantly associated with increased mortality. The estimate for the effect of PM10 on deaths from cardiorespiratory diseases was 0.62% (0.43% to 0.81%) per 10 µg/m3 compared with 0.26% (0.09% to 0.42%) for other cause mortality. Exposure to PM10 had a greater impact on females than on males. Adults aged 60 and over were more vulnerable to particulate air pollution at high levels than those aged less than 60. The PM10 effect varied across different cities and marginally decreased in cities with higher PM10 concentrations. Conclusion Particulate air pollution has a greater impact on deaths from cardiorespiratory diseases than it does on other cause mortality. People aged 60 or more have a higher risk of death from particulate air pollution than people aged less than 60. The estimates of the effect varied across cities and covered a wide range of domain.

ABSTRACT

Myopic traction maculopathy (MTM) can cause vision disabilities in highly myopic eyes. This retrospective case series investigated the clinical outcomes of posterior scleral contraction (PSC) using genipin-cross-linked sclera as the material to treat MTM in highly myopic eyes. In total, 32 eyes from 29 highly myopic patients who underwent PSC for MTM were recruited. The changes in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and axial length were evaluated, macular reattachment and macular hole (MH) closure was assessed by optical coherence tomography, and complications were evaluated. At the final follow-up, the retina was completely reattached in 25 eyes (78.1%), essentially reattached in 4 eyes (12.5%), and partially reattached in 3 eyes (9.4%). The logMAR BCVA improved significantly from 1.18 ± 0.45 preoperatively to 0.87 ± 0.45 postoperatively (P < 0.001). The 32 eyes were further divided into the MH group (16 eyes) and the non-MH group (16 eyes) for comparison. The MH was closed in 9 eyes (56.3%). The retinal reattachment rate was 75.0% in the MH group and 81.25% in the non-MH group, and the logMAR BCVA improved significantly in both groups. The PSC using genipin-cross-linked sclera as the material can effectively treat MTM in highly myopic eyes, and significant visual improvement can be achieved with minimal complications.

To investigate the morphological characteristics of myopic macular retinoschisis (MRS) in teenagers with high myopia, six male (9 eyes) and 3 female (4 eyes) teenagers with typical MRS identified from chart review were evaluated. All cases underwent complete ophthalmic examinations including best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), indirect ophthalmoscopy, colour fundus photography, B-type ultrasonography, axial length measurement, and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). The average age was 17.8 ± 1.5 years, average refractive error was -17.04 ± 3.04D, average BCVA was 0.43 ± 0.61, and average axial length was 30.42 ± 1.71 mm. Myopic macular degenerative changes (MDC) by colour fundus photographs revealed Ohno-Matsui Category 1 in 4 eyes, and Category 2 in 9 eyes. Posterior staphyloma was found in 9 eyes. SD-OCT showed outer MRS in all 13 eyes, internal limiting membrane detachment in 7 eyes, vascular microfolds in 2 eyes, and inner MRS in 1 eye. No premacular structures such as macular epiretinal membrane or partially detached posterior hyaloids were found. Our results showed that MRS rarely occurred in highly myopic teenagers, and was not accompanied by premacular structures, severe MDC, or even obvious posterior staphyloma. This finding indicates that posterior scleral expansion is probably the main cause of MRS.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of posterior scleral reinforcement (PSR) using genipin cross-linked sclera as the material to treat macular detachment and retinoschisis, both without macular hole, in highly myopic eyes. METHODS: Twenty-one patients with highly myopic eyes (24 eyes) with macular detachment and retinoschisis were treated sequentially with genipin cross-linked PSR and were followed for at least 1 year after surgery. The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), spherical equivalent (SE) power, axial length (AL), optical coherence tomography, and the complications were evaluated. RESULTS: The mean SE decreased from -13.81±4.67 D preoperatively to -9.64±4.86 D postoperatively, while the improvement in the logMAR BCVA values was from 1.24±0.57 before surgery to 1.03±0.57 after surgery. The preoperative AL (29.73±2.31 mm) was decreased (28.08±2.08 mm) after the operation. The retina in 21 eyes (87.5%) was successful reattached and the macular detachment was significantly decreased in two eyes; a macular hole occurred in one eye. CONCLUSIONS: For at least a 1 year period of follow-up, PSR with genipin cross-linked sclera was safe and effective to treat macular detachment and retinoschisis in high myopia when a macular hole was not present. The reinforcement effect tended to be stabilised and maintained for 6 months after treatment.
