ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the clinical effect on spinal low back pain (SLBP) in Air Force crew treated with novel thumbtack needling therapy and to analyze the relevant factors of the therapeutic effect.@*METHODS@#A total of 120 Air Force crew with SLBP were randomized into a thumbtack needling group (40 cases), an external treatment group (40 cases, 1 case dropped off ) and a combined treatment group (40 cases, 1 case dropped off ). In the thumbtack needling group, the thumbtack needling therapy was adopted. The novel thumbtack needles were inserted at the lower No.6 region of the wrist-ankle acupuncture, Yaotongdian (EX-UE 7), Yaoyangguan (GV 3), etc. Each point was pressed and kneaded for 1 min each time, 3 or 4 times a day. The treatment for 3 days was taken as one course. At the interval of 2 days, 3 courses were required totally. In the external treatment group, @*RESULTS@#Compared with the values before treatment, McGill scores and ODI scores were reduced (@*CONCLUSION@#The thumbtack needling therapy is significantly effective on spinal low back pain in Air Force crew and is of the safety. Hence, this therapy is applicable to be promoted in the primary care army hospital.

BACKGROUND: In the cartilage tissue engineering materials, hyaluronic acid as the representative of polysaccharide materials has good material-cell interface that is beneficial to the growth of chondrocytes, which has become a hot research topic in recent years. OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of injectable hyaluronic acid material loaded with chondrocytes to repair cartilage defects in rats. METHODS: Ninety Sprague-Dawley rats were selected to prepare a cartilage defect model, and they were randomly divided into three groups at the 2nd day after modeling. The experimental group was injected hyaluronic acid hydrogel loaded with chondrocytes into the articular cavity, the control group was injected with hyaluronic acid hydrogel into the articular cavity, and the blank control group received no intervention. At 1, 3 and 6 weeks after injection, the repaired cartilage tissues were taken out for hematoxylin eosin staining, Masson staining, and scanning electron microscope observation, and the expression of heme oxygenase and level of collagen were detected.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Hematoxylin eosin staining: at 6 weeks after injection, granulation tissues filled the repair area in the blank control group. The control group was full of yellowish white tissues in the repair area, with distinct boundary with the normal cartilage, the surface was not smooth and the lymphocytes were reduced compared with those at 3 weeks. Repair tissue of the experimental group was semi-transparent and showed a fuzzy boundary with the normal cartilage, and moreover, lymphocyte was significantly reduced compared with those at 3 weeks. (2) Masson staining: at 6 weeks after injection, collagen fiber synthesis in the repair area in the experimental group was the best, successively followed by the control group and the blank control group. (3) Scanning electron microscope observation: at 6 weeks after injection, collagen fiber arrangement in the repair area was irregular and partially broken in the blank control group, and the arrangement became more orderly in the control group but still partially broken. The collagen fibers in the experimental group were arranged orderly, and the boundary with normal cartilage was unclear. (4) Expression of heme oxygenase and level of collagen: at 6 weeks after injection, the expression of heme oxygenase in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group and blank control group (P < 0.05). The levels of collagen in the experimental group at 1, 3 and 6 weeks after injection were higher than those in the control group and the blank control group (P < 0.05). To conclude, hyaluronic acid injectable material loaded with chondrocytes can promote the repair of cartilage defects in rats.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:Clinical evaluation gives much attention to occlusion and improvement of soft tissue profile,while little is reported concerning the stress distribution on the temporomandibular joint in the treatment of Class Ⅱ division 1 malocclusion adult patients undergoing single maxillary extraction orthodontics.OBJECTIVE:To analyze the stress distribution on the temporomandibular joint in the treatment of Class Ⅱ division 1 malocclusion with single maxillary extraction orthodontics.METHODS:The three-dimensional finite element models of normal and Class Ⅱ division 1 malocclusion before and after single maxillary extraction orthodontics according to CT and MRI data.The stress distribution on the temporomandibular joint was analyzed after mechanical loading and boundary constraint.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with Class Ⅱ division 1 malocclusion,the stress distribution on the temporomandibular joint after single maxillary extraction orthodontics had no significant stress concentration area,and the equivalent stress of the condyle was lower than that before treatment,and the equivalent stress of the articular disc and the glenoid fossa of temporal bone were larger than those before treatment.However,the stress was well-distributed,basically fulfilling the stress characteristics of normal occlusion.To conclude,single maxillary extraction orthodontics reduces the risk of temporomandibular joint disorder in the patients with Class Ⅱ division 1 malocclusion,which is balanced and stable in line with the goal of orthodontic treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of cold underwear on acute radioactive dermatitis in the cervical cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy.Methods Ninety-seven patients with stage Ⅱb and above Ⅱb cervical cancer receiving radiotherapy were divided into the control group (n =48) and the experiment group (n =49) according to the random digit table.In the control group,Orgotein was sprayed on the local skins and the experiment group was treated with wearing cold underwear for 20 minutes in addition to local spraying of Orgotein.The two groups were compared in terms of dermatitis on the early stage,middle stage and final stage.Result On the early stage there was no statistical significant difference between two groups on dermatitis (P>0.05),but the dermatitis in the experiment group was statistically less than that in the control group at the middle stage and final stage (P<0.01).Conclusions The cold underwear for the cervical cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy can effectively prevent dermatitis or reduce its severity.It is designed suitable for patients prom anatomical perspective and simple for application.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the use of multi-b-value diffusion-weighted imaging in diagnosing pancreatic cancer. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 33 cases of pancreatic cancer and 12 cases of benign pancreatic tumors at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from December 2008 to January 2011. The demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, routine magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) features with different b values were reviewed. Continuous data were expressed as mean ± SD. Comparisons between pancreatic cancer and benign pancreatic tumors were performed using the Student's t test. A probability of P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Thirty-three patients with pancreatic cancer were identified. The mean age at diagnosis was 60 ± 5.6 years. The male: female ratio was 21:12. Twenty cases were confirmed by surgical resection and 13 by biopsy of metastases. T1 weighted images demonstrated a pancreatic head mass in 16 patients, a pancreatic body mass in 10 cases, and a pancreatic tail mass with pancreatic atrophy in 7 cases. Eight patients had hepatic metastases, 13 had invasion or envelopment of mesenteric vessels, 4 had bone metastases, and 8 had lymph node metastases. DWI demonstrated an irregular intense mass with unclear margins. Necrotic tissue demonstrated an uneven low signal. A b of 1100 s/mm² was associated with a high intensity signal with poor anatomical delineation. A b of 700 s/mm² was associated with apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) that were useful in distinguishing benign and malignant pancreatic tumors (P < 0.05). b values of 50, 350, 400, 450 and 1100 s/mm² were associated with ADCs that did not differentiate the two tumors. CONCLUSION: Low b value images demonstrated superior anatomical details when compared to high b value images. Tumor tissue definition was high and contrast with the surrounding tissues was good. DWI was useful in diagnosing pancreatic cancer.
