ABSTRACT

Introduction and importance: Foreign bodies in the liver are uncommon but can lead to severe conditions like liver abscess and sepsis. They typically enter through direct penetration, migration from the gastrointestinal tract, or through the blood. Common foreign objects include metal pins, or sewing needles swallowed accidentally. Case presentation: A 25-year-old male presented to our OPD with pain over the right abdomen with a prior history of projectile injury causing laceration over the right anterior abdomen with primary suturing. On radiological investigation, a retained foreign body was revealed. The metallic foreign body was embedded in the liver for 5 months. Removal of the foreign body was performed without any complications. Clinical discussion: Intrahepatic foreign bodies (FBs) in the liver can result from penetrating injuries, iatrogenic causes, or ingestion, particularly in children. Clinical presentations vary, and complications such as abscess formation may occur. Diagnosis involves imaging modalities like X-rays, ultrasonography, and computed tomography (CT) scans. The presented case highlights the importance of meticulous follow-up, as chronic pain manifested despite conservative management. The management of intrahepatic FBs depends on factors like size, location, and symptoms, with conservative approaches for stable patients. Surgical removal remains the mainstay of the treatment. Long-term monitoring is crucial to detect potential complications, and imaging studies play a key role in regular follow-up. Conclusion: Hepatic foreign bodies are rare, and symptoms vary based on size, type, and location, ranging from asymptomatic to complications such as abscess formation. Surgical removal is the main treatment, but in cases of noncomplicated hepatic foreign bodies, close follow-up is necessary.

ABSTRACT

Background: Drug resistant (DR) osteoarticular TB (OATB) is a challenge in view of it being deep seated lesion and paucibacillary disease. Case definition, investigation protocol, treatment of proven DR and those cases where DR could not be demonstrated lacks clarity and evidence. Hence, a series of studies were conducted to develop an algorithm to investigate and treat therapeutically refractory disease (TRD) or presumptive drug resistance (PDR) cases of OATB. Patients and methods: 6 studies were conducted. Study one and two evaluated criteria to label TRD/PDR. Three subsequent studies were conducted where TDR/PDR or fresh cases of OATB cases were investigated by AFB smear, Bactec/liquid culture, histology and genotypic DST by CBNAAT & LPA. Sixth study was a retrospective evaluation of all DR cases treated for proven or clinical drug resistance (CDR). Results: Patient of bone/spine TB on ATT for 5 months or more show poor clinico-radiological treatment response as worsening of lesion, increased spinal deformity, persistent discharging sinus/ulcer, appearance of fresh lesion, recurrence of previous lesion, wound dehiscence of post-operative surgical scar cab labelled as PDR cases. These cases on histology ascertained TB and were proven DR on genotypic and phenotypic DST and are treated successfully. The patients of histologically ascertained TB and no/indeterminate phenotypic and genotypic DST were successfully treated as clinical drug resistance on MDR protocol. Conclusions: We described an algorithm. We must suspect PDR(TRD) based on criteria described. The tissue must be procured and submitted for AFB smear, histology and phenotypic and genotypic DST for diagnosis of TB. Genotypic and phenotypic DST will be useful to prove (90% instances) type of drug resistance. Remaining on strong clinical suspicion of DR and yet inconclusive on phenotypic/genotypic DST (<10%), may be treated as CDR as MDR. The adverse drug reactions and hepatic side-effects should be monitored diligently and these cases to be treated till healed status is demonstrated.

INTRODUCTION: Hydatidosis, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is endemic in regions where cattle rearing is prevalent. While liver and lung involvement are common, isolated splenic hydatid cysts are rare, particularly among adolescents. We present a rare case of a 14-year-old female with an isolated giant splenic hydatid cyst. CASE PRESENTATION: A 14-year-old female presented with left upper quadrant pain. Imaging revealed a large splenic cyst without evidence of liver or lung involvement. A total splenectomy was performed, and a histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a hydatid cyst. The patient underwent postoperative albendazole therapy and remained asymptomatic during follow-up. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Isolated splenic hydatid cysts are rare in the pediatric population. Imaging techniques such as ultrasound and CT play a crucial role in diagnosis. Surgical resection and Puncture-aspiration-injection-reaspiration remain the choice of treatment, supplemented by anti-parasitic therapy. Postoperative follow-up is essential to monitor for recurrence. CONCLUSION: Isolated splenic hydatid cysts are exceptionally rare in pediatric patients. Prompt diagnosis, surgical intervention, and postoperative surveillance are crucial for successful management and prevention of recurrence.

ABSTRACT

The emergence of algal biorefineries has garnered considerable attention to researchers owing to their potential to ensure carbon neutrality via mitigation of atmospheric greenhouse gases. Algae-derived biofuels, characterized by their carbon-neutral nature, stand poised to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental and societal well-being. In this context, algae-based wastewater treatment systems are greatly appreciated for their efficacy in nutrient removal and simultaneous bioenergy generation. These systems leverage the growth of algae species on wastewater nutrients-including carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus-alongside carbon dioxide, thus facilitating a multifaceted approach to pollution remediation. This review seeks to delve into the realization of carbon neutrality through algae-mediated wastewater treatment approaches. Through a comprehensive analysis, this review scrutinizes the trajectory of algae-based wastewater treatment via bibliometric analysis. It subsequently examines the case studies and empirical insights pertaining to algae cultivation, treatment performance analysis, cost and life cycle analyses, and the implementation of optimization methodologies rooted in artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for algae-based wastewater treatment systems. By synthesizing these diverse perspectives, this study aims to offer valuable insights for the development of future engineering applications predicated on an in-depth understanding of carbon neutrality within the framework of circular economy paradigms.

INTRODUCTION: Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is a rare condition caused by the compression of the celiac trunk by the median arcuate ligament, leading to a typical symptom triad: postprandial abdominal pain, weight loss, nausea, and vomiting. CASE PRESENTATION: A 41-year-old female patient presented to our center with mild postprandial abdominal pain over the epigastric region, and bloating sensation. Ultrasonography of the abdomen showed multiple stones in the gall bladder lumen, and the computed tomography scan showed median arcuate ligament impingement along the proximal aspect of the celiac trunk causing moderate narrowing with post-stenotic dilation. Laparoscopic release of the median arcuate ligament with laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed. DISCUSSION: The diagnosis of Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome is based on the classical post-prandial symptoms and abdominal imaging technologies like Doppler ultrasonography, computed tomography angiography, or magnetic resonance angiography. Exclusion of other intestinal disorders should be considered before making the diagnosis. Celiac artery decompression through different means is the principle of treatment of this condition. CONCLUSION: The diagnosis of median arcuate ligament syndrome should be considered in patients with postprandial abdominal pain that does not have an established etiology. Celiac artery decompression by releasing the median arcuate ligament is the treatment.

ABSTRACT

Paraquat, a highly toxic herbicide, accounts for a substantial number of poisoning-related fatalities, primarily prevalent in agricultural regions. The ingestion gives rise to severe complications affecting various organs, including the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and liver. This report details the case of an 18-year-old male who had been using cannabis for a year and inadvertently ingested paraquat. He presented at the emergency room exhibiting symptoms of vomiting characterized by hematemesis and regurgitated food particles, along with heartburn, dysphagia and reduced urine output. Given the absence of a specific antidote, the prognosis for paraquat poisoning remains generally unfavourable. Diagnosis relies on circumstantial evidence and clinical manifestations, necessitating a focus on supportive care. Presently, no specific antidote for paraquat poisoning is available. Efforts should concentrate on preventive measures, efficient decontamination strategies and vigilant stabilization protocols in instances of exposure.

ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted to assess the impact of non-encapsulated, air-dried microencapsulated, and lyophilized microencapsulated probiotics in indigenous cattle calves (Bos indicus). Twenty-four (5-7 days old) indigenous cattle calves were selected and assigned into four groups, with six calves in each as follows: control (CON), fed milk and basal diet alone, and treatment groups supplemented with non-encapsulated (NEC), air-dried microencapsulated (AEC) and lyophilized microencapsulated (LEC) probiotic L. reuteri SW23 at 108 CFU/head/day in skim milk as a carrier provided for 60 days. The animals were divided into four groups, adopting a complete randomized design, and the effects were considered significant at p ≤ 0.05. Probiotics supplementation increased (p < 0.05) body weight gain (kg), average daily gain, and structural growth measurements in calves of all treatment groups. Dry matter intake (g/d), feed conversion efficiency, and fecal counts of Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria were also increased in the treatment groups compared to CON. The fecal consistency index was highest in CON (0.70 ± 0.03), followed by NEC (0.68 ± 0.01), AEC (0.66 ± 0.02), and LEC (0.65 ± 0.02). Fecal pH and ammonia levels were reduced (p < 0.05) in the probiotic-fed groups compared to CON, with a concomitant increase in fecal lactate, acetate, and propionate levels. In addition, cell-mediated and humoral immunity were significantly increased in supplemented groups as compared to CON. Thus, it can be concluded that supplementation of the probiotics in microencapsulated/non-encapsulated forms to neonatal calves had a variety of positive effects on their health, including better performance, improved gut health, and a lower fecal consistency index. Moreover, among all supplemented groups, the lyophilized microencapsulated group outperformed air-dried microencapsulated and non-microencapsulated groups in terms of ADG, DMI, and gut health.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Enteral resuscitation (EResus) is operationally advantageous to intravenous resuscitation for burn-injured patients in some low-resource settings. However, there is minimal guidance and no training materials for EResus tailored to non-burn care providers. We aimed to develop and consumer-test a training flipbook with doctors and nurses in Nepal to aid broader dissemination of this life-saving technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used individual cognitive interviews with Nepali (n = 12) and international (n = 4) burn care experts to define key elements of EResus and specific concepts for its operationalization at primary health centers and first-level hospitals in Nepal. Content, prototype illustrations, and wireframe layouts were developed and revised with the burn care experts. Subsequently, eight consumer testing focus groups with Nepali stakeholders (5-10 people each) were facilitated. Prompts were generated using the Questionnaire Appraisal System (QAS) framework. The flipbook was iteratively revised and tested based on consumer feedback organized according to the domains of clarity, assumptions, knowledge/memory, and sensitivity/bias. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The flipbook elements were iterated until consumers made no additional requests for changes. Examples of consumer inputs included: clarity-minimize medical jargon, add shrunken organs and wilted plants to represent burn shock; assumptions-use locally representative figures, depict oral rehydration salts sachet instead of a graduated bottle; knowledge/memory-clarify complex topics, use Rule-of-9 s and depict approximately 20% total body surface area to indicate the threshold for resuscitation; sensitivity/bias-reduce anatomic illustration details (e.g. urinary catheter placement, body contours). CONCLUSION: Stakeholder engagement, consumer testing, and iterative revision can generate knowledge translation products that reflect contextually appropriate education materials for inexperienced burn providers. The EResus Training Flipbook can be used in Nepal and adapted to other contexts to facilitate the implementation of EResus globally.

ABSTRACT

The Hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCA2), also known as the niacin receptor or GPR109A, is a prototypical GPCR that plays a central role in the inhibition of lipolytic and atherogenic activities. Its activation also results in vasodilation that is linked to the side-effect of flushing associated with dyslipidemia drugs such as niacin. GPR109A continues to be a target for developing potential therapeutics in dyslipidemia with minimized flushing response. Here, we present cryo-EM structures of the GPR109A in complex with dyslipidemia drugs, niacin or acipimox, non-flushing agonists, MK6892 or GSK256073, and recently approved psoriasis drug, monomethyl fumarate (MMF). These structures elucidate the binding mechanism of agonists, molecular basis of receptor activation, and insights into biased signaling elicited by some of the agonists. The structural framework also allows us to engineer receptor mutants that exhibit G-protein signaling bias, and therefore, our study may help in structure-guided drug discovery efforts targeting this receptor.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Medulloblastoma, a highly malignant embryonal tumor predominantly found in the pediatric population, typically arises within the cerebellum. This case report holds particular importance due to the rarity of medulloblastoma within the cerebellopontine angle (CPA). The distinct anatomical challenge posed by the CPA complex neurovascular structures, along with the absence of pathognomonic clinical or radiographic features, highlights the unique diagnostic and management challenge of this case. Case presentation: A 5-year-old boy presented with mild, progressively worsening headaches on CT/MRI imaging, which revealed a solid mass in the left CPA. Radiologically, the lesion closely resembled a CPA meningioma. The patient underwent a left retrosigmoid suboccipital craniectomy, utilizing a modified park bench position and careful burrhole creation. Intraoperatively, the tumor exhibited well-defined margins, firm adherence to cranial nerves, and complex tissue characteristics. Postoperatively, histopathological analysis identified nodular medulloblastoma, WHO grade IV, with immunohistochemical markers confirming its subtype. Discussion: This case highlights the critical role of surgical intervention in addressing rare tumors, emphasizing the need for multidisciplinary collaboration in both diagnosis and management to achieve a favorable outcome. Uncommon tumor locations, such as the CPA, require tailored approaches, and the utilization of advanced diagnostic techniques, including immunohistochemistry, aids in accurate subtype classification. Conclusion: This case highlights the critical role of surgical intervention in addressing rare tumors, emphasizing the need for multidisciplinary collaboration in both diagnosis and management to achieve a favorable outcome.

ABSTRACT

Neurological symptoms and signs of Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) can accompany, follow, or precede respiratory symptoms and signs; hence, they are important in the diagnosis and management of COVID-19 patients. In this retrospective study conducted during the second wave of COVID-19, we included all patients diagnosed with COVID-19 using real-time polymerase chain reaction and admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital between June 2021 and October 2021. The patients were categorized into 2 groups: group A (with neurological manifestations or complications) and Group-B (without neurological manifestations or complications). The 2 groups were compared in terms of intensive care unit (ICU) admission, need for ventilatory support, length of hospital stay, and various outcomes. The study included 235 participants ranging in age from 13 to 102 years (mean age = 54 years, standard deviation = 18). Among the participants, 54.50% were male. The proportion of individuals in group A was higher (59.15%, N = 139) than that in Group-B (40.85%, N = 96). Notably, a significantly greater number of patients were admitted to the ICU in Group B than in Group A. However, there were no statistically significant differences in the need for ventilatory support or hospital stay between the 2 groups. Interestingly, group A showed a higher rate of improvement (Z = -3.1145, P = .00188, 95% CI), while Group-B had a higher rate of mortality (Z = 4.5562, P < .00001, 95% CI). Altered mental status and stroke have been specifically linked to poorer outcomes, whereas typical neurological manifestations, such as hyposmia, hypogeusia, dizziness, headache, and myalgia, are associated with better outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Extrahepatic Portal Vein Obstruction is the most common cause of portal hypertension in children. However, it has a very low prevalence. Esophageal varices due to portal hypertension in children can lead to recurrent episodes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, which can have a sinister outcome if timely diagnosis and treatment are not initiated. CASE PRESENTATION: A 7-year-old male child presents with recurrent episodes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding for 3 years. Clinical examination reveals pallor and splenomegaly. Laboratory investigations revealed signs of hypersplenism with anemia, leucopenia and thrombocytopenia, and Doppler ultrasonography and CT abdomen and pelvis revealed splenic vein thrombosis with splenomegaly and cavernous transformation of the portal vein. The patient was managed operatively with splenectomy with splenorenal shunting and devascularization of esophagogastric varices. DISCUSSION: Extrahepatic Portal Vein obstruction is the most common cause of noncirrhotic portal hypertension in children. Its occurrence in the pediatric population is very rare. Portal hypertension can lead to variceal bleeding and splenomegaly, which can have a significant impact on a child's long-term health. Because of its insidious nature, a meticulous workup is required for its diagnosis, and treatment in the pediatric population is difficult, and appropriate guidelines for its management specifically targeting the pediatric population are lacking. CONCLUSION: Extrahepatic Portal Vein obstruction is rare in children with a difficult diagnosis and management. Despite these hindrances, timely intervention can lift a significant burden of its detrimental outcome off the young children and drastically uplift the quality of life of these patients.

ABSTRACT

ß-arrestins (ßarrs) are multifunctional proteins involved in signaling and regulation of seven transmembrane receptors (7TMRs), and their interaction is driven primarily by agonist-induced receptor activation and phosphorylation. Here, we present seven cryo-electron microscopy structures of ßarrs either in the basal state, activated by the muscarinic receptor subtype 2 (M2R) through its third intracellular loop, or activated by the ßarr-biased decoy D6 receptor (D6R). Combined with biochemical, cellular, and biophysical experiments, these structural snapshots allow the visualization of atypical engagement of ßarrs with 7TMRs and also reveal a structural transition in the carboxyl terminus of ßarr2 from a ß strand to an α helix upon activation by D6R. Our study provides previously unanticipated molecular insights into the structural and functional diversity encoded in 7TMR-ßarr complexes with direct implications for exploring novel therapeutic avenues.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The most difficult kind of cancer to treat is brain cancer, which causes around 3% of all cancer-related deaths. The targeted delivery is improved with the use of technologies based on nanotechnology that are both safe and efficient. Because of this, there is now a lot of research being done on brain cancer treatments based on nanoformulations. OBJECTIVE: In this review, the author's primary aim is to elucidate the various nanomedicine for brain cancer therapy. The authors focus primarily on the advancement of nanotechnology in treating brain cancer (BC). This review article gives readers an up-to-date look at publications on sophisticated nanosystems in treating BC, including quantum dots (QDs), nanoparticles (NPs), polymeric micelles (PMs), dendrimers, and solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), among others. This article offers insight into the use of various nanotechnology-based systems for therapy as well as their potential in the future. This article also emphasizes the drawbacks of nanotechnology-based methods. Future perspectives for treating brain cancer using proteomics and biomimetic nanosystems are briefly discussed. CONCLUSION: In this review, we review several aspects of brain cancer therapy, including various nanomedicines, their challenges and future perspectives. Overall, this article gives a thorough overview of both the present state of brain cancer treatment options and the disease itself.

Introduction: Adult tetanus is a neurotoxin mediated infectious disease, that continues to be seen despite availability of a highly efficacious vaccine. In India population-based burden estimates for adult tetanus are not available. Elimination of neonatal and maternal tetanus from India was achieved in 2015 with DPT (diphtheria, pertusis, and tetanus) vaccine during childhood and tetanus toxoid (TT) during antenatal care. Vaccine coverage in adults is uneven. While pregnant women receive the vaccine as part of ante-natal care, booster dose coverage in all other non-pregnant women and men is poor. Case report: We describe four cases of adult tetanus that presented to our tertiary care hospital in central India. Out of four cases, two were homemakers, one was a farmer, another was a student. Three of them were not aware regarding primary tetanus vaccination and none of the four received any booster dosages of tetanus vaccine. Conclusions: These cases highlight complexity of disease management and reinforce the need for adult booster immunization against tetanus.

Background: There is paucity of data on incidence and pattern of drug resistance in spinal TB. This prospective observational study was conducted to document the incidence and drug-resistance pattern among primary and presumptive resistant cases. Methods: 59 consecutive cases diagnosed clinico-radiologically (imaging) were grouped into Group A (n = 51, primary cases) and Group B (n = 8, presumptive resistant cases) based on pre-defined criteria (INDEX-TB guidelines). Tissue samples obtained percutaneously (37.29%, 22/59) and on surgery (62.71%, 37/59) were subjected to genotypic DST (CBNAAT, LPA) and phenotypic DST (BACTEC MGIT 960 culture and sensitivity using fixed critical concentration of drugs). Results: Etiological diagnosis was ascertained in all. 13/51 (25.49%) in Group A, while 3/8 (37.5%) in Group B and 16/59 (27.12%) overall demonstrated drug resistance. 12/16 (75%) had no prior history of ATT intake. 4 demonstrated INH (Isoniazid) mono-resistance. 12 polydrug resistance demonstrated: 5MDR, 3pre-XDR, while RIF + FQ (fluoroquinolones), FQ + Lz (linezolid), only SLID (second-line injectable drugs), and only FQ resistance observed in 1 case each. Isolated RIF (Rifampicin) resistance and XDR pattern were not observed. Overall frequency of RIF resistance was 16.4% (9/55) and INH was 25% (12/48) with low-(n-2) and high-level INH resistance (n-10). Among second-line drugs, FQ resistance was more than SLID resistance and within FQ, levofloxacin resistance was more frequent than moxifloxacin. MGIT demonstrated positive growth in 16/59 samples, out of which 1 sample was positive for nontuberculous mycobacteria (M. chelonae) but on genotypic testing demonstrated MTB resistant to RIF and FQ. Conclusion: This is the first report on incidence and drug-resistant pattern in culture-positive/negative cases. High (25.49%) primary drug resistance is worrisome. This being the first study in  spinal TB cases which document prevalent drug-resistant pattern as evaluated for consecutive culture-positive/negative cases. The tissue obtained must be submitted for AFB culture and molecular tests to ascertain drug resistance in culture-positive/negative cases. However, in the presence of insufficient tissue sample histology and CBNAAT can ascertain etiological diagnosis in 100% cases. INH resistance is more than RIF with isolated RIF resistance unreported.

Cancer is a complex, one of the fatal non-communicable diseases, and its treatment has enormous challenges, with variable efficacy of traditional anti-cancer agents. By 2025, it is expected that 420 million additional cases of cancer will be diagnosed yearly. However, among various types of cancer, brain cancer treatment is most difficult due to the presence of blood-brain barriers. Nowadays, phytoconstituents are gaining popularity because of their biosafety and low toxicity to healthy cells. This article reviews various aspects related to curcumin for brain cancer therapeutics, including epidemiology, the role of nanotechnology, and various challenges for development and clinical trials. Furthermore, it elaborates on the prospects of curcumin for brain cancer therapeutics. In this article, our objective is to illuminate the anti-cancer potential of curcumin for brain cancer therapy. Moreover, it also explores how to defeat its constraints of clinical application because of poor bioavailability, stability, and rapid metabolism. This review also emphasizes the possibility of curcumin for the cure of brain cancer using cuttingedge biotechnological methods based on nanomedicine. This review further highlights the recent patents on curcumin-loaded nanoformulations for brain cancer. Overall, this article provides an overview of curcumin's potential in brain cancer therapy by considering challenges to be overwhelmed and future prospective. Moreover, this review summarizes the reported literature on the latest research related to the utility of curcumin in brain cancer therapy and aims to provide a reference for advanced investigation on brain cancer treatment.

ABSTRACT

The complement system is a critical part of our innate immune response, and the terminal products of this cascade, anaphylatoxins C3a and C5a, exert their physiological and pathophysiological responses primarily via two GPCRs, C3aR and C5aR1. However, the molecular mechanism of ligand recognition, activation, and signaling bias of these receptors remains mostly elusive. Here, we present nine cryo-EM structures of C3aR and C5aR1 activated by their natural and synthetic agonists, which reveal distinct binding pocket topologies of complement anaphylatoxins and provide key insights into receptor activation and transducer coupling. We also uncover the structural basis of a naturally occurring mechanism to dampen the inflammatory response of C5a via proteolytic cleavage of the terminal arginine and the G-protein signaling bias elicited by a peptide agonist of C3aR identified here. In summary, our study elucidates the innerworkings of the complement anaphylatoxin receptors and should facilitate structure-guided drug discovery to target these receptors in a spectrum of disorders.

ABSTRACT

The levels of pesticides in air, water, and soil are gradually increasing due to its inappropriate management. In particular, agricultural runoff inflicts the damages on the ecosystem and human health at massive scale. Present study summarizes 70 studies in which investigations on removal or treatment of pesticides/insecticides/herbicides are reported. A bibliometric analysis was also done to understand the recent research trends through the analysis of 2218 publications. The specific objectives of this study are as follows: i) to inventorize the characteristics details of agriculture runoff and analyzing the occurrence and impacts of pesticides, ii) analyzing the role and interaction of pesticides in different environmental segments, iii) investigating the fate of pesticides in agriculture runoff treatment systems, iv) summarizing the experiences and findings of most commonly technology deployed for pesticides remediation in agriculture runoff including target pesticide(s), specifications, configuration of technological intervention. Among the reported technologies for pesticide treatment in agriculture runoff, constructed wetland was at the top followed by algal or photobioreactor. Among various advanced oxidation processes, photo Fenton method is mainly used for pesticides remediation such as triazine, methyl parathion, fenuron and diuron. Algal bioreactors are extensively used for a wide range of pesticides treatment including 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, alachlor, diuron, chlorpyrifos, endosulfan, and imidacloprid; especially at lower hydraulic retention time of 2-6 h. This study highlights that hybrid approaches can offers potential opportunities for effective removal of pesticides in a more viable manner.
