ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of dentigerous cysts in children and adolescents with surgical windowing and orthodontic traction. METHODS: A total of 19 cases were collected from the First People 's Hospital of Yongkang between 2014 to 2016. All cases were treated with surgical windowing and orthodontic traction. During the operation, fenestration was made to remove part of the cyst wall; full expose the tooth surface for adhesion, attach orthodontic traction attachments, reposition the mucosal flap and suture, and then start orthodontic treatment to guide teeth eruption for 1-2 months. RESULTS: After treatment, the cysts were gradually decreased until disappeared. The teeth successfully reached the normal occlusal position; all erupted teeth have health periodontal tissues, normal pulp vitality, and good root morphology. CONCLUSIONS: Use of surgical windowing and orthodontic traction to treat dentigerous cysts in children and adolescents can achieve good clinical effect, which provides a new treatment method.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the methodology and reporting quality of Chinese systematic reviews and meta analysis in oral medicine. METHODS: Chinese literatures of systematic reviews and meta analysis in oral medicine were searched in the CBM, VIP, WANFANG Database and CNKI from the establishment date to August 30, 2014. Two researchers screened and evaluated the data independently, and disagreements were resolved by discussion. Methodology and reporting quality of included literatures were evaluated by AMSTAR and PRISMA scale. RESULTS: Of the 204 literatures included in the analysis, the highest and lowest scores of methodology quality were 9 and 0, respectively. The average score was 4.95 ± 2.45. The main problems were insufficient in literature searching, absence of a list of included and excluded studies, lack of assessment for publication bias, etc. The highest and lowest scores of reporting quality were 21 and 4, and the average score of reporting quality was 14.07 ± 3.62. The main problems were incomplete report in abstract, data collection and analysis methods, bias control, conclusion, etc. CONCLUSIONS: The methodological qualities of Chinese systematic reviews and meta analysis in oral medicine are generally low, and their reporting qualities are also needed to be improved.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the classification and treatment of mandibular condylar fracture in adults. METHODS: One hundred and eight adults with mandibular condylar fracture were classified into different types, subsequent treatment methods were adopted based on types of fracture. RESULTS: More than 95% of the patients could recover normal occlusion, and the mouth opening reached over 37mm six months after treatment; no patients had permanent facial nerve palsy and ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint. CONCLUSIONS: Different treatment methods should be applied to different types of mandibular condylar fracture in adults, choosing appropriate treatment method according to the types of fracture is the key to success.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To report the treatment experience of panfacial fracture. METHODS: Thirty-seven patients with panfacial fracture were treated with rigid internal fixation combined with intermaxillary or craniomaxillary traction. The fracture was repositioned in the order of "from fixed to mobile and from simple to complex". RESULTS: Thirty-four cases achieved satisfactory results, with good recovery of occlusion and normal oral function. CONCLUSIONS: Panfacial fracture can be managed successfully and conveniently through a small facial incision, in the order of "from fixed to mobile and from simple to complex", combined with intermaxillary traction.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To assess the clinical effect of intermaxillary traction titanium screw on complicated mandibular fracture. METHODS: Fifty cases of complicated mandibular fracture received ten intermaxillary traction titanium screws and conducted intermaxillary fixation before operation; then the patients underwent open reduction and internal fixation; after operation intermaxillary traction was performed for 2-4 weeks. RESULTS: Fifty cases of complicated mandibular fracture displayed satisfied occlusion and bone union without major complications. CONCLUSIONS: The intermaxillary traction titanium screw could reduce the time of operation, and shows high efficiency in fixation of mandibular fracture.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To assess the effect and advantage of infraorbital incision in internal fixation of orbital floor fracture. METHODS: Curved incision was used for operation, which was 2mm below the inferior eyelash, paralleling to the infraorbital rim. Dissection was made between the orbicular muscle and orbital septum to expose the orbital floor fracture and removed the impacted soft tissues; then internal fixation was carried out with curved titanium plate and the wound was closed routinely. RESULTS: 103 cases of orbital floor fracture obtained excellent bone union and no complication such as diplopia and enophthalmos; scars of 89 cases were flat and unconspicuous; 5 cases developed slight ectropion. 9 cases had local slight fold. CONCLUSIONS: Infraorbital incision in internal fixation of orbital floor fracture has some advantages such as unconspucious incision, easy operation, clear operative field, convenient reduction and fixation, and minimal iatrogenic wound.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To summarize the key points of nursing around operation and cautions that are needed to take in zygomatic complex fracture(ZCF). METHODS: 99 surgically treated ZCF cases were given preoperative nursing, psychological nursing, disease observation, preoperative preparation, postoperative nursing of general anesthesia, incision, nutrition, open-mouth training and observation of complications. RESULTS: Fracture reduction and fixation in 99 cases were satisfactory. The mouth opening raised from 2.2 cm to 3.9 cm. The wound healed primarily in 99% cases. No patient developed psychological disturbance. The degree of satisfactory about nursing exceeded 95%. CONCLUSION: The key points of perioperative nursing are psychological nursing, including elimination of fear and pessimism. When the patients have craniocerebral traumas, we should observe the changes of vital signs. When the patients have open fractures, we should take active hemostatic, antishock as well as, anti-infection measures with good postoperative care of incision, nutrition and observation of complications.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To investigate the methods, merits and effects of temporal anterior hairline incision in internal fixation of zygomatic complex fracture (ZCF). METHODS: 99 cases of ZCF were treated via vertical incision in temporal anterior hairline. During dissection, the zygomatic branch and the frontal branch of the facial nerve, which crossed over the zygomatic arch, were protected. The deep fascia superficial to the zygomatic arch was horizontally incised, the periosteum was elevated at the fracture sites. Cases of type A1 were treated through the above approach; while minor periorbital and oral vestibule incisions were also used in cases of type B and C. The fracture segments were reduced accurately and fixed with titanium microplates. Coronal incision was not applied in all cases. RESULTS: The clinical results were good in 99 cases (86.0%). All the temporal anterior hairline incisions healed primarily. The rate of temporary facial paralysis, due to injury of the zygomatic and frontal branch of the facial nerve, was 24.3%; but all recovered six months later, without any permanent paralysis. CONCLUSION: The temporal anterior hairline incision has many merits including clear field of operation, convenient manipulation, minimal trauma, less bleeding, high accuracy of reduction and inconspicuous scar.
