ABSTRACT

Bacillus is widely used in agriculture due to its diverse biological activities. We isolated a Bacillus velezensis SH-1471 from the rhizosphere soil of healthy tobacco, which has broad-spectrum antagonistic activity against a variety of plant pathogenic fungi such as Fusarium oxysporum, and can be colonized in the rhizosphere of a variety of plants. This study will further explore its mechanism by combining biological and molecular biology methods. SH-1471 contains a ring chromosome of 4,181,346 bp with a mean G + C content of 46.18%. We identified 14 homologous genes related to biosynthesis of resistant secondary metabolite, and three clusters encoded potential new antibacterial substances. It also contains a large number of genes from colonizing bacteria and genes related to plant bacterial interactions. It also contains genes related to environmental stress, as well as genes related to drug resistance. We also found that there are many metabolites in the strain that can inhibit the growth of pathogens. In addition, our indoor pot test found that SH-1471 has a good control effect on tomato wilt, and could significantly improve plant height, stem circumference, root length, root weight, and fresh weight and dry weight of the aboveground part of tomato seedlings. Therefore, SH-1471 is a potential biological control strain with important application value. The results of this study will help to further study the mechanism of SH-1471 in biological control of plant diseases and promote its application.

ABSTRACT

Captured underwater images usually suffer from severe color cast and low contrast due to wavelength-dependent light absorption and scattering. These degradation issues affect the accuracy of target detection and visual understanding. The underwater image formation model is widely used to improve the visual quality of underwater images. Accurate transmission map and background light estimation are the keys to obtaining clear images. We develop a multi-priors underwater image restoration method with adaptive transmission (MUAT). Concretely, we first propose a calculation method of the dominant channel transmission to cope with pixel interference, which combines two priors of the difference between atmospheric light and pixel values and the difference between the red channel and the blue-green channel. Besides, the attenuation ratio between the superior and inferior channels is adaptively calculated with the background light to solve the color distortion and detail blur caused by the imaging distance. Ultimately, the global white balance method is introduced to solve the color distortion. Experiments on several underwater scene images show that our method obtains accurate transmission and yields better visual results than state-of-the-art methods.

ABSTRACT

For the enhancement process of underwater images taken in various water types, previous methods employ the simple image formation model, thus obtaining poor restoration results. Recently, a revised underwater image formation model (i.e., the Akkaynak-Treibitz model) has shown better robustness in underwater image restoration, but has drawn little attention due to its complexity. Herein, we develop a dehazing method utilizing the revised model, which depends on the scene depth map and a color correction method to eliminate color distortion. Specifically, we first design an underwater image depth estimation method to create the depth map. Subsequently, according to the depth value of each pixel, the backscatter is estimated and removed by the channel based on the revised model. Furthermore, we propose a color correction approach to adjust the global color distribution of the image automatically. Our method only uses a single underwater image as input to eliminate lightwave absorption and scattering influence. Compared with state-of-the-art methods, both subjective and objective experimental results show that our approach can be applied to various real-world underwater scenes and has better contrast and color.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) encompasses a rare and agnogenic group of diffuse alveolar capillary hemorrhagic diseases. Corticosteroid treatment is the globally preferred therapeutic strategy for IPH; however, it can cause immunodeficiency. Nocardia infection often occurs in immunocompromised patients and primarily involves the pleura and lungs. Herein, we describe a case of pediatric pulmonary Nocardia infection after the corticosteroid treatment of IPH. CASE PRESENTATION: A 7-year-old girl presented with chief complaints of pale complexion persisting for 1 year and a cough for 20 days. Abundant hemosiderin-laden macrophages were detected in the gastric juice, which supported the diagnosis of IPH. Uninterrupted doses of corticosteroids were administered during the last hospitalization. After nearly 2 months of corticosteroids therapy, the patient began to cough and produce a purulent sputum. Next-generation sequencing of the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid revealed Nocardia abscessus (N. abscessus) DNA. Linezolid was administered with good response, and the patient was discharged after 18 days of hospitalization. Her symptoms and pulmonary lesions had recovered, and the IPH appeared to be well-controlled with low dose of corticosteroids in follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Nocardia infection should be considered in the differential diagnoses for IPH patients receiving corticosteroid therapy, especially in patients with poor response to conventional empirical antibiotic therapy. Next-generation sequencing of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid may be used to quickly identify the Nocardia. Sulfonamides or linezolid are effective for pediatric pulmonary Nocardia infection.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Hypersensitivity pneumonia (HP) is an interstitial lung disease (ILD) mainly involving small airways and lung parenchyma that is caused by the inhalation of antigens in susceptible people to stimulate the body's immune response. METHODS: A total of 6 Chinese children with HP treated in our center from July 2017 to July 2021 were included in our study. RESULTS: Among the children, there were 4 males and 2 females, ranging in age from 4 to 14 years. Three cases had chest tightness and shortness of breath, 2 cases had cough, 1 case had chest pain, and 1 case had fever. Two cases of children had a history of close contact with pet dogs, 1 case had a history of contact with pigeons, 2 cases lived in a moldy house recently, and 1 case recently played a saxophone that had been idle for more than 2 years. The parents of two cases also had similar symptoms recently. The specific signs of chest HRCT of 6 cases all were in line with the characteristics of HP. After avoiding the sensitization environment, 2 children quickly recovered, 4 patients received low-dose glucocorticoid oral treatment, and after symptom control the dose was gradually reduced. The course of treatment was about 3-6 months. CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to a potential antigen has been found in all 6 HP children. The clinical manifestations are heterogeneous and easy to confuse with other diseases. A clear history of exposure to the antigens, respiratory symptoms associated with HP, signs of HP on HRCT, and improvement after removal from the antigenic environment constitute the cornerstone of the diagnosis of HP children in our unit. Avoiding exposure to antigenic environment is the first step in treatment, and glucocorticoid use is necessary in children with persistent symptoms.

ABSTRACT

Aiming at the rapid coaxiality measurement of serial hole part with a small diameter, a coaxiality measuring rod for each layer hole with a single LDS (laser displacement sensor) is proposed. This method does not require the rotation angle information of the rod, and the coaxiality of serial holes can be calculated from the measured values of LDSs after randomly rotating the measuring rod several times. With the mathematical model of the coaxiality measuring rod, each factor affecting the accuracy of coaxiality measurement is analyzed by simulation, and the installation accuracy requirements of the measuring rod and LDSs are presented. In the tolerance of a certain installation error of the measuring rod, the relative center of the hole is calculated by setting the over-determined nonlinear equations of the fitting circles of the multi-layer holes. In experiment, coaxiality measurement accuracy is realized by a 16 µm precision LDS, and the validity of the measurement method is verified. The manufacture and measurement requirements of the coaxiality measuring rod are low, by changing the position of LDSs in the measuring rod, the serial holes with different sizes and numbers can be measured. The rapid coaxiality measurement of parts can be easily implemented in industrial sites.

ABSTRACT

A new method for fast diameter measurement of coaxial holes is studied. The paper describes a multi-layer measuring rod that installs a single laser displacement sensor (LDS) on each layer. This method is easy to implement by rotating the measuring rod, and immune from detecting the measuring rod's rotation angles, so all diameters of coaxial holes can be calculated by sensors' values. While revolving, the changing angles of each sensor's laser beams are approximately equal in the rod's radial direction so that the over-determined nonlinear equations of multi-layer holes for fitting circles can be established. The mathematical model of the measuring rod is established, all parameters that affect the accuracy of measurement are analyzed and simulated. In the experiment, the validity of the method is verified, the inner diameter measuring precision of 28 µm is achieved by 20 µm linearity LDS. The measuring rod has advantages of convenient operation and easy manufacture, according to the actual diameters of coaxial holes, and also the varying number of holes, LDS's mounting location can be adjusted for different parts. It is convenient for rapid diameter measurement in industrial use.

ABSTRACT

The laser triangulation method is one of the most advanced methods for large inner diameter measurement. Our research group proposed a kind of inner diameter measuring device that is principally composed of three laser displacement sensors known to be fixed in the same plane measurement position. It is necessary to calibrate the direction of the laser beams that are emitted by laser displacement sensors because they do not meet the theoretical model accurately. For the purpose of calibrating the direction of laser beams, a calibration method and mathematical model were proposed. The inner diameter measuring device is equipped with the spindle of the machine tool. The laser beams rotate and translate in the plane and constitute the rotary rays which are driven to scan the inner surface of the ring gauge. The direction calibration of the laser beams can be completed by the sensors' distance information and corresponding data processing method. The corresponding error sources are analyzed and the validity of the method is verified. After the calibration, the measurement error of the inner diameter measuring device reduced from ± 25 µ m to ± 15 µ m and the relative error was not more than 0.011%.
