ABSTRACT

With the global population surge, the consumption of nonrenewable resources and pollution emissions have reached an alarming level. Engineered bamboo is widely used in construction, mechanical and electrical product packaging, and other industries. Its main damage is the material fracture caused by the expansion of initial cracks. In order to accurately detect the length of crack propagation, digital image correlation technology can be used for calculation. At present, the traditional interpolation method is still used in the reconstruction of engineered bamboo speckle images for digital correlation technology, and the performance is relatively lagging. Therefore, this paper proposes a super-resolution reconstruction method of engineering-bamboo speckle images based on an attention-dense residual network. In this study, the residual network is improved by removing the BN layer, using the L1 loss function, introducing the attention model, and designing an attention-intensive residual block. An image super-resolution model based on the attention-dense residual network is proposed. Finally, the objective evaluation indexes PSNR and SSIM and subjective evaluation index MOS were used to evaluate the performance of the model. The ADRN method was 29.19 dB, 0.938, and 3.19 points in PSNR, SSIM, and MOS values. Compared to the traditional BICUBIC B-spline interpolation method, the speckle images reconstructed by this model increased by 8.55 dB, 0.323, and 1.43 points, respectively. Compared to the SRResNet method, the speckle images reconstructed by this model were increased by 4.53 dB, 0.111, and 0.14 points, respectively. The reconstructed speckle images of engineered bamboo were clearer, and the image features were more obvious, which could better identify the tip crack position of the engineered bamboo. The results show that the super-resolution reconstruction effect of engineered-bamboo speckle images can be effectively improved by adding the attention mechanism to the residual network. This method has great application value.

ABSTRACT

This paper reports the nondestructive detection of apple varieties using a multichannel hyperspectral imaging system consisting of an illumination fiber and 30 detection fibers arranged at source-detector distances of 1.5-36 mm over the spectral range of 550-1650 nm. Spatially resolved (SR) spectra were obtained for 1500 apples, 500 each of three varieties from the same orchard to avoid environmental and geographical influences. Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLSDA) models were developed for single SR spectra and spectral combinations to compare their performance of variety detection. To evaluate the effect of spectral range on variety detection, three types of spectra (i.e., visible region: 550-780 nm, near-infrared region: 780-1650 nm, full region: 550-1650 nm) were analyzed and compared. The results showed that the single SR spectra presented a different accuracy for apple variety classification, and the optimal SR spectra varied with spectral types. Spectral combinations had better accuracies for variety detection with best overall classifications of 99.4% for both spectral ranges in the NIR and full regions; however, the spectral combination could not improve the results over the optimal single SR spectra in the visible region. Moreover, the recognition of golden delicious (GD) was better than those of the other two varieties, with the best classification accuracy of 100% for three types of spectra. Overall, the multichannel hyperspectral imaging system provides more spatial-spectral information for the apples, and the results demonstrate that the technique gave excellent classifications, which suggests that the multichannel hyperspectral imaging system has potential for apple variety detection.

ABSTRACT

An expansion joint is mainly composed of bellows and other components; it is attached on a container shell or pipe to compensate for the additional stress caused by temperature differences and mechanical vibrations. In China, the expansion joint fatigue tests are often used to assess the quality of products. After fatigue tests, convolution pitch will be changed. The amount of change is an important index that can be used to evaluate bellows expansion joints. However, the convolution pitch detection is mainly done manually and randomly by inspection agencies before shipping to the end users. This common practice is not efficient and is often subjective. This paper introduced a novel method for automatically detecting the change of the convolution pitch based on a laser line scanner and data processing technology. The laser line scanner is combined with a precision motorized stage to obtain the point cloud data of the bellows. After denoising and fitting, a peak-finding algorithm is applied to search for the crest of a convolution. The method to find the convolution pitch and the decision that needs to be made to ensure product eligibility are described in detail. A DN500 expansion joint is used as a sample to illustrate the efficiency of the system. The application of the technique intuitively allows a higher precision and relative efficiency in quality inspection of bellows expansion joints. It has also been implemented in the Special Equipment Safety Supervision and Inspection Institute of Jiangsu province with great success.

ABSTRACT

Free-standing NiO/MnO2 core-shell nanoflake structure was deposited on flexible carbon cloth (CC) used as electrode for high-performance supercapacitor (SC). The NiO core was grown directly on CC by hydrothermal process and the following annealing treatment. MnO2 thin film was then covered on NiO structures via a self-limiting process in aqueous solution of 0.5 M KMnO4 and 0.5 M Na2SO4 with a carbon layer serving as the sacrificial layer. Both the core and shell materials are good pseudocapacitive materials, the compounds of binary metal oxides can provide the synergistic effect of all individual constituents, and thus enhance the performance of SC electrode. The obtained CC/NiO/MnO2 heterostructure was directly used as SC electrodes, showing an enhanced electrochemical performance including areal capacitance of 316.37 mF/cm2 and special gravimetric capacitance of 204.3 F/g at the scan rate of 50 mV/s. The electrode also shows excellent cycling stability, which retains 89% of its initial discharge capacitance after 2200 cycles with >97% Coulombic efficiency. The synthesized binder-free hierarchical composite electrode with superior electrochemical properties demonstrates enormous potential in the application of flexible SCs.
