ABSTRACT

Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) are important but often overlooked regulators of uranium (U) cycling in soil. However, the impact of PSB on uranate fixation coupled with the decomposition of recalcitrant phosphorus (P) in mining land remains poorly understood. Here, we combined gene amplicon sequencing, metagenome and metatranscriptome sequencing analysis and strain isolation to explore the effects of PSB on the stabilization of uranate and P availability in U mining areas. We found that the content of available phosphorus (AP), carbonate-U and Fe-Mn-U oxides in tailings was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than their adjacent soils. Also, organic phosphate mineralizing (PhoD) bacteria (e.g., Streptomyces) and inorganic phosphate solubilizing (gcd) bacteria (e.g., Rhodococcus) were enriched in tailings and soils, but only organic phosphate mineralizing-bacteria substantially contributed to the AP. Notably, most genes involved in organophosphorus mineralization and uranate resistance were widely present in tailings rather than soil. Comparative genomics analyses supported that organophosphorus mineralizing-Streptomyces species could increase soil AP content and immobilize U(VI) through organophosphorus mineralization (e.g., PhoD, ugpBAEC) and U resistance related genes (e.g., petA). We further demonstrated that the isolated Streptomyces sp. PSBY1 could enhance the U(VI) immobilization mediated by the NADH-dependent ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase (petA) through decomposing organophosphorous compounds. This study advances our understanding of the roles of PSB in regulating the fixation of uranate and P availability in U tailings.

ABSTRACT

The insecticides of microbial origin may be promising biocontrol agents to control pests. In this study, a major metabolite was extracted and purified from Serratia marcescens KH-001 and identified as prodigiosin with a molecule weight of 324.2094, and our primary aim was to evaluate the effects of prodigiosin against Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae) in the laboratory and in the field. Toxicity of purified prodigiosin to nymphs increased with increasing temperature from 25 to 35°C. The laboratory experiment results observed inhibition effects of purified prodigiosin at LC50 on oviposition and egg hatch of D. citri at 30°C. Furthermore, adults that fed on citrus leaves treated with LC20 and LC50 solution of purified prodigiosin at 30°C excreted less honeydew (28-35%) compared with controls, suggesting moderate antifeedant activity of prodigiosin. The results of field experiment showed that 10% prodigiosin emulsifiable concentrate exhibited better control efficacy (70-100%) at three concentrations (100, 200, and 500 mg/liter) in July and August than in October. These data indicate that prodigiosin will be a highly effective compound for the control of D. citri depending on the prevailing temperature conditions and may become a commercially available product to be widely used in citrus orchards.

ABSTRACT

During the dengue epidemic in Yunnan Province, China, during 2019, a concurrent outbreak of chikungunya occurred in the city of Ruili, which is located in the southwest of the province, adjacent to Myanmar. As part of this outbreak, three neonatal cases of infection with indigenous chikungunya virus from mother-to-child (vertical) transmission were observed. Isolates of chikungunya virus were obtained from 37 serum samples of patients with chikungunya during this outbreak, and a phylogenetic analysis of these isolates revealed that they belong to the Indian Ocean subclade of the East/Central/South African genotype. The E1 genes of these viruses did not harbor the A226V mutation.

ABSTRACT

In the research of artificial joint biomechanics, it is a common method in the world to evaluate the biomechanical properties of the implanted fixtures through experiments in vitro. The domestic research started late, and the corresponding testing software were lacking. There is still no special software. In this paper, an integrated software test system was designed and built based on the existing hardware system, including:hardware control, data collection, data save, data processing and display. It can directly show the 3D motion trajectory and the angle curve of joints. The system can accurately measure the relative motion angle value, external torque value, and inter pressure value of each joint. It has some reference significance for the development of the artificial joints' evaluation system.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, a complete hardware test system was designed and built around the existing mechanical testing machine, including:binocular vision catcher, torque bearing clamp, film pressure sensor and so on. The system can accurately measure the relative motion angle value, external torque value, and inter pressure value of each joint. It has some reference significance for the forming and standardization of the artificial joints' evaluation system.
