ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common haematological cancer worldwide. Along with related diseases including monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), plasma cell leukaemia (PCL) and plasmacytoma, MM incidence is rising, yet it remains incurable and represents a significant disease burden. Clinical registries can provide important information on management and outcomes, and are vital platforms for clinical trials and other research. The Asia-Pacific Myeloma and Related Diseases Registry (APAC MRDR) was developed to monitor and explore variation in epidemiology, treatment regimens and their impact on clinical outcomes across this region. Here we describe the registry's design and development, initial data, progress and future plans. METHODS: The APAC MRDR was established in 2018 as a multicentre collaboration across the Asia-Pacific, collecting prospective data on patients newly diagnosed with MM, MGUS, PCL and plasmacytoma in Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan, with China recently joining. Development of the registry required a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers, legal and information technology support, and financial resources, as well as local clinical context from key opinion leaders in the APAC region. Written informed consent is obtained and data are routinely collected throughout treatment by hospital staff. Data are stored securely, meeting all local privacy and ethics requirements. Data were collected from October 2018 to March 2024. RESULTS: Over 1700 patients from 24 hospitals have been enrolled onto the APAC MRDR to date, with the majority (86%) being newly diagnosed with MM. Bortezomib with an immunomodulatory drug was most frequently used in first-line MM therapy, and lenalidomide-based therapy was most common in second-line. Establishment and implementation challenges include regulatory and a range of operational issues. CONCLUSION: The APAC MRDR is providing 'real-world' data to participating sites, clinicians and policy-makers to explore factors influencing outcomes and survival, and to support high quality studies. It is already a valuable resource that will continue to grow and support research and clinical collaboration in MM and related diseases across the APAC region.

BACKGROUND: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is rarely recommended for unfit patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Patient survival can improve with venetoclax plus azacitidine (VEN plus AZA). However, the long-term outcome of this treatment strategy is still unsatisfactory. The high response and low treatment toxicity rates of patients receiving VEN plus AZA can provide an opportunity for HSCT among unfit patients. Nevertheless, the outcomes and complications of VEN plus AZA, followed by HSCT, remain unclear. METHODS: This single-center retrospective study aimed to compare patients with newly diagnosed AML receiving VEN plus AZA as induction therapy (n = 27) to those receiving the conventional I3A7 regimen as induction therapy (n = 34). RESULT: The 1-year overall survival, relapse, and non-relapse mortality rates in the two groups were similar. The cytogenetic risks and the hematopoietic cell transplantation-specific comorbidity index are the most significant predictive factors of overall survival. CONCLUSION: In older patients unfit for intensive chemotherapy, a low-intensity regimen with VEN plus AZA is a suitable bridge therapy. Furthermore, allo-HSCT is feasible and can be a curative option.

ABSTRACT

Venetoclax-azacitidine is approved for treatment of patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) ineligible for intensive chemotherapy based on the interim overall survival (OS) analysis of the VIALE-A study (NCT02993523). Here, long-term follow-up is presented to address survival benefit and long-term outcomes with venetoclax-azacitidine. Patients with newly diagnosed AML who were ineligible for intensive chemotherapy were randomized 2:1 to receive venetoclax-azacitidine or placebo-azacitidine. OS was the primary endpoint; complete remission with/without blood count recovery (CR/CRi) was a key secondary endpoint. This final analysis was conducted when 100% of the predefined 360 OS events occurred. In VIALE-A, 431 patients were enrolled to venetoclax-azacitidine (n = 286) or placebo-azacitidine (n = 145). At 43.2 months median follow-up, median OS was 14.7 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 12.1-18.7) with venetoclax-azacitidine, and 9.6 months (95% CI, 7.4-12.7) with placebo-azacitidine (hazard ratio, 0.58 [95% CI, 0.47-0.72], p < .001); the estimated 24-month OS rate was 37.5% and 16.9%, respectively. Median OS for patients with IDH1/2 mutations and those with measurable residual disease responses was reached in this final analysis. CR/CRi rate was similar to interim analysis. Any-grade hematologic and gastrointestinal adverse events were most common in venetoclax-azacitidine and placebo-azacitidine arms, including thrombocytopenia (47% and 42%) and neutropenia (43% and 29%). No new safety signals were identified. Long-term efficacy and safety confirm venetoclax-azacitidine is an improvement in standard-of-care for patients with AML who are not eligible for intensive chemotherapy because of advanced age or comorbidities.

ABSTRACT

Natural killer/T cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is a highly aggressive, heterogeneous non-Hodgkin lymphoma resulting from malignant proliferation of cytotoxic natural killer (NK) or T cells. Previous studies demonstrated variable expression of CD38 on NKTCL tumors. Daratumumab, a human IgGκ monoclonal antibody targeting CD38 with a direct on-tumor and immunomodulatory mechanism of action, was hypothesized to be a novel therapeutic option for patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) NKTCL. In the phase 2 NKT2001 study (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02927925) assessing the safety and efficacy of daratumumab, a suboptimal overall response rate was seen in R/R NKTCL patients. One patient, whose tumors did not express CD38, responded to treatment, suggesting that the immunomodulatory activities of daratumumab may be sufficient to confer clinical benefit. To understand the suboptimal response rate and short duration of response, we investigated the immune profile of NKTCL patients from NKT2001 in the context of daratumumab anti-tumor activity. Tumor tissue and whole blood were, respectively, analyzed for CD38 expression and patient immune landscapes, which were assessed via cytometry by time-of-flight (CyTOF), multiparameter flow cytometry (MPFC), clonal sequencing, and plasma Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-DNA level measurements. Changes observed in the immune profiles of NKTCL patients from NKT2001, including differences in B and T cell populations between responders and nonresponders, suggest that modulation of the immune environment is crucial for daratumumab anti-tumor activities in NKTCL. In conclusion, these findings highlight that the clinical benefit of daratumumab in NKTCL may be enriched by B/T cell-related biomarkers.

Background: The influence of the breast as the primary site on the outcome of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and further changes in therapeutic strategies remain unclear. We aimed to compare the outcomes between primary breast and non-breast DLBCL and analyze the genetic profiles of some of the study cohorts using next-generation sequencing. Methods: This matched-pair study reviewed the medical records of 19 patients with stage I and II primary breast DLBCL diagnosed between January 2005 and December 2021 on the basis of the Wiseman and Liao criteria, and we used 1:4 propensity score matching to identify patients with non-breast DLBCL as the control group. The overall response rate, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were the outcome measures. Results: Patients with primary breast and non-breast DLBCL had a 5-year PFS of 72.6% and 86.9%, respectively (P = .206). These 2 groups also had comparable 5-year OS (86.9% vs 87.8%; P = .772). The breast as the primary site was not associated with inferior PFS (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.14; 95% CI: 0.66-6.96; P = .206) and OS (HR: 1.26; 95% CI: 0.27-5.93; P = .772). Conclusion: Patients with primary breast DLBCL and those with non-breast DLBCL had comparable PFS and OS under rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) or R-CHOP-like regimens. Further investigations of the mutation profile, its clinical impact, potential central nervous system relapse, and prognosis of primary breast DLBCL are required.

ABSTRACT

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients affected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have a high mortality rate. The American Society of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) and the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) recommend vaccination for these vulnerable populations. However, emerging data suggested that vaccination might elicit immunological adverse events, including an exacerbation of graft-vs.-host disease (GVHD). Herein, we report a case of severe optic neuritis developed shortly after AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination in an allogeneic HSCT recipient with underlying chronic GVHD. The patient had a headache 5 days after vaccination, and the disease progressed rapidly to complete blindness 17 days after the vaccination. The diagnosis of optic neuritis was well-confirmed by the presence of an anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody and the typical features of MRI image and Ophthalmoscopy. Other differential diagnoses, such as infection or leukemia relapse in the central nervous system (CNS), were carefully excluded. A timely high-dose corticosteroid was administered, and her visual acuity improved rapidly. She returned to her baseline status 1 month later. With more than 1 year of follow-up, no optic neuritis or leukemia relapse was observed. In summary, allogeneic transplant recipients can develop severe optic neuritis after vaccination. Optic neuritis can be an exacerbation of GVHD or rarely a sporadic adverse event of vaccination. Furthermore, our experience indicates that a prompt diagnosis and early steroid treatment are vital for a good recovery.

ABSTRACT

This phase 3 study evaluated the efficacy and safety of the new hypomethylating agent guadecitabine (n = 408) vs a preselected treatment choice (TC; n = 407) of azacitidine, decitabine, or low-dose cytarabine in patients with acute myeloid leukemia unfit to receive intensive induction chemotherapy. Half of the patients (50%) had poor Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status (2-3). The coprimary end points were complete remission (19% and 17% of patients for guadecitabine and TC, respectively [stratified P = .48]) and overall survival (median survival 7.1 and 8.5 months for guadecitabine and TC, respectively [hazard ratio, 0.97; 95% confidence interval, 0.83-1.14; stratified log-rank P = .73]). One- and 2-year survival estimates were 37% and 18% for guadecitabine and 36% and 14% for TC, respectively. A large proportion of patients (42%) received <4 cycles of treatment in both the arms. In a post hoc analysis of patients who received ≥4 treatment cycles, guadecitabine was associated with longer median survival vs TC (15.6 vs 13.0 months [hazard ratio, 0.78; 95% confidence interval, 0.64-0.96; log-rank P = .02]). There was no significant difference in the proportion of patients with grade ≥3 adverse events (AEs) between guadecitabine (92%) and TC (88%); however, grade ≥3 AEs of febrile neutropenia, neutropenia, and pneumonia were higher with guadecitabine. In conclusion, no significant difference was observed in the efficacy of guadecitabine and TC in the overall population. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as #NCT02348489.

BACKGROUND: It is advised to pretreat the reagent erythrocytes with Dithiothreitol (DTT) to denature the surface CD38 to prevent anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies (MoAb) from interfering with the blood compatibility test. Anti-CD38 has little impact on the Polybrene test, but it is still unknown how sensitive it is to detect irregular antibodies and how effective it is when compared to the standard DTT-based method. METHODS: Twenty-one patients receiving daratumumab (N = 13) and isatuximab (N = 8) had their serum collected. Standard anti-sera (anti-c, D, E, Fyb , Jka , M, Mia ) with serial dilution were added to patients' serum. Antibody screening tests were performed simultaneously using the manual polybrene method (MP) and DTT-pretreated, automatic indirect antiglobulin test (DTT-IAT) to compare the detection sensitivity. These two methods' operating times and costs were also analyzed. RESULTS: Both MP and DTT-IAT can overcome the interference caused by anti-CD38 MoAb. However, MP is more sensitive in detecting anti-M and anti-Mia and is comparable to DTT-IAT in detecting other antibodies. In terms of cost and operating time, MP is also far superior to DTT-IAT. CONCLUSION: MP is a cost-effective alternative to DTT-IAT in resolving anti-CD38 interference and is especially suitable for populations with a high prevalence of anti-M and anti-Mia . However, both methods have a well-known drawback of low detection sensitivity for anti-K, and K-units should be provided to patients to prevent hemolytic transfusion reactions.

BACKGROUND: Infections are a common reason for hospitalization and death in multiple myeloma (MM). Although pneumococcal vaccination (PV) and influenza vaccination (FV) are recommended for MM patients, data on vaccination status and outcomes are limited in MM. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We utilized data from the global, prospective, observational INSIGHT MM study to analyze FV and PV rates and associated outcomes of patients with MM enrolled 2016-2019. RESULTS: Of the 4307 patients enrolled, 2543 and 2500 had study-entry data on FV and PV status. Overall vaccination rates were low (FV 39.6%, PV 30.2%) and varied by region. On separate multivariable analyses of overall survival (OS) by Cox model, FV in the prior 2 years and PV in the prior 5 years impacted OS (vs. no vaccination; FV: HR, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.60-0.90; P = .003; PV: HR, 0.51; 95% CI, 0.42-0.63; P < .0001) when adjusted for age, region, performance status, disease stage, cytogenetics at diagnosis, MM symptoms, disease status, time since diagnosis, and prior transplant. Proportions of deaths due to infections were lower among vaccinated versus non-vaccinated patients (FV: 9.8% vs. 15.3%, P = .142; PV: 9.9% vs. 18.0%, P = .032). Patients with FV had generally lower health resource utilization (HRU) versus patients without FV; patients with PV had higher or similar HRU versus patients without PV. CONCLUSION: Vaccination is important in MM and should be encouraged. Vaccination status should be recorded in prospective clinical trials as it may affect survival. This trial was registered at www. Patients with relapsed or refractory lymphoma have limited treatment options, requiring newer regimens. In this Phase 1/2 study (NCT03769181), we assessed the safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics of isatuximab (Isa, anti-CD38 antibody) in combination with cemiplimab (Cemi, anti-programmed death-1 [PD-1] receptor antibody; Isa + Cemi) in patients with classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL). In Phase 1, we characterized the safety and tolerability of Isa + Cemi with planned dose de-escalation to determine the recommended Phase 2 dose (RP2D). Six patients in each cohort were treated with a starting dose of Isa + Cemi to determine the RP2D. In Phase 2, the primary endpoints were complete response in Cohort A1 (cHL anti-PD-1/programmed death-ligand 1 [PD-L1] naïve), and objective response rate in Cohorts A2 (cHL anti-PD-1/PD-L1 progressors), B (DLBCL), and C (PTCL). An interim analysis was performed when the first 18 (Cohort A1), 12 (Cohort A2), 17 (Cohort B), and 11 (Cohort C) patients in Phase 2 had been treated and followed up for 24 weeks. Isa + Cemi demonstrated a manageable safety profile with no new safety signals. No dose-limiting toxicities were observed at the starting dose; thus, the starting dose of each drug was confirmed as the RP2D. Based on the Lugano 2014 criteria, 55.6% (Cohort A1), 33.3% (Cohort A2), 5.9% (Cohort B), and 9.1% (Cohort C) of patients achieved a complete or partial response. Pharmacokinetic analyses suggested no effect of Cemi on Isa exposure. Modest clinical efficacy was observed in patients with cHL regardless of prior anti-PD-1/PD-L1 exposure. In DLBCL or PTCL cohorts, interim efficacy analysis results did not meet prespecified criteria to continue enrollment in Phase 2 Stage 2. Isa + Cemi did not have a synergistic effect in these patient populations.

ABSTRACT

Global vaccination against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is thought to be the most effective way to end or at least contain the COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite the good safety profiles and effectiveness of the available COVID-19 vaccines, rare but serious hematological complications have emerged, including thromboembolic outcomes with thrombocytopenia following the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (Oxford-AstraZeneca) and Ad26.COV.2.S (Johnson & Johnson/Janssen) vaccines. Moreover, COVID-19 vaccination may be linked to the development of aplastic anemia (AA). We discuss four cases of AA that arose after COVID-19 vaccination in our hospital and two other such cases identified in our literature review.

Asian patientswith chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) exhibit immunoglobulin heavy variable (IGHV) gene repertoires that are distinct from those observed in Western populations, and a higher proportion of Asian CLL patients carry heavy loads of somatic hypermutations (SHM) within the B-cell receptor immunoglobulins (BcR IG). Due to the low regional incidence of CLL in Asia, only a limited number of studies had attempted to probe the phenomenon of BcR IG stereotypy in Asian populations. In this study, we analyzed the IGHV-IGHD-IGHJ gene rearrangements from a series of 255 CLL patients recruited in a nationwide, multicenter study in Taiwan. Our analysis revealed that the IGHV gene repertoire was characterized by evident biases, with IGHV3-7, IGHV4-34, and IGHV3-23 being the most frequent rearranged IGHV genes, and a higher proportion of cases carrying mutated IGHV. In terms of BcR stereotypy, the incidence of major subsets was less frequent in this cohort, with subsets #77 and #28A being the most common, while the incidence of minor subsets was approximately equivalent to that reported in the Western cohorts. With this study, we provide evidence that CLL in Asia is indeed associated with distinct immunogenetic characteristics regarding IGHV gene usage, SHM status, and BcR IG stereotypy.

Information on Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is mostly limited to Europe and North America. This real-world, retrospective study assessed treatment pathways and clinical outcomes in adults with stage IIB-IV classical HL receiving frontline treatment (n = 1598) or relapsed/refractory HL (RRHL, n = 426) in regions outside Europe and North America between January 2010 and December 2013. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) in the RRHL group. Among patients with RRHL, 89.0% received salvage chemotherapy; most common regimen was etoposide, methylprednisolone, cytarabine, cisplatin (ESHAP; 26.3%). Median PFS in the RRHL group was 13.2 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 9.9-20.2) and was longer in patients with vs. without stem cell transplantation (SCT; 20.6 vs. 7.5 months; p = 0.0071). This large-scale study identified a lower PFS for RRHL in the rest of the world compared with Europe and North America, highlighting the need for novel targeted therapies and SCT earlier in the treatment continuum.Clinical trial registration: NCT03327571.

ABSTRACT

Prevention of relapse is a major therapeutic challenge and an unmet need for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Venetoclax is a highly selective, potent, oral BCL-2 inhibitor that induces apoptosis in AML cells. When combined with azacitidine, it leads to prolonged overall survival and rapid, durable remissions in treatment-naive AML patients ineligible for intensive chemotherapy. VIALE-M is a randomized, double-blind, two-arm study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of venetoclax in combination with oral azacitidine (CC-486) as maintenance therapy in patients in complete remission with incomplete blood count recovery after intensive induction and consolidation therapies. The primary end point is relapse-free survival. Secondary outcomes include overall survival, minimal residual disease conversion and improvement in quality-of-life. BACKGROUND: In the pivotal phase III, randomized, multicenter ICARIA-MM study (NCT02990338), isatuximab plus pomalidomide and dexamethasone (Isa-Pd) improved progression-free survival and overall response rate versus pomalidomide and dexamethasone (Pd) in the overall population of patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this predefined subgroup analysis, efficacy, and safety between East Asian patients and the overall population were assessed. RESULTS: In total, 36 East Asian patients were included (Japanese, n = 13; Korean, n = 9; Taiwanese, n = 14). At a median follow-up of 11.6 months, median progression-free survival was not reached (95% confidence interval [CI] 5.80-not calculable) in the Isa-Pd arm and was 7.9 months (95% CI 2.90-not calculable) in the Pd arm. The hazard ratio for the between-group difference was 0.52 (95% CI 0.19-1.39), which was similar to the overall population (hazard ratio, 0.60; 95% CI 0.44-0.82). No new safety signals were observed, except that a higher proportion of patients in the East Asian population experienced Grade ≥ 3 neutropenia compared with the overall population. CONCLUSION: These results confirm the efficacy of Isa-Pd in East Asian patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma, and the related safety data are consistent with those observed in the overall population and are manageable.

ABSTRACT

Phase 3 trials Viale-A and Viale-C evaluated health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with AML unfit for intensive chemotherapy who received venetoclax (VEN) + (AZA) (Viale-A) or low-dose cytarabine (LDAC) (Viale-C) or placebo (PBO) + AZA or LDAC. Patient-reported outcomes included: EORTC QLQ-C30 global health status (GHS/QoL) and physical functioning (PF), PROMIS Cancer Fatigue Short Form 7a (Fatigue), and EQ-5D-5L health status visual analog scale (HS-VAS). Time to deterioration (TTD), defined as worsening from baseline in meaningful change thresholds (MCT) of ≥10, 5, or 7 points for GHS/QoL or PF, fatigue, and HS-VAS, respectively, was assessed; differences between groups were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier and unadjusted log-rank analyses. VEN + AZA vs PBO + AZA patients had longer TTD in GHS/QoL (P = 0.066) and fatigue (P = 0.189), and significantly longer TTD in PF (P = 0.028) and HS-VAS (P < 0.001). VEN + LDAC vs PBO + LDAC patients had significantly longer TTD in GHS/QoL (P = 0.011), PF (P = 0.020), and fatigue (P = 0.004), and a trend in HS-VAS (P = 0.057). Approximately 43%, 35%, 32%, and 18% of patients treated with VEN + AZA, AZA + PBO, VEN + LDAC, or LDAC + PBO, respectively, saw improvements >MCT in GHS/QoL. Overall, VEN may positively impact HRQoL in patients with AML ineligible for intensive chemotherapy, leading to longer preservation of functioning and overall health status.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The combination of ivosidenib - an inhibitor of mutant isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) - and azacitidine showed encouraging clinical activity in a phase 1b trial involving patients with newly diagnosed IDH1-mutated acute myeloid leukemia. METHODS: In this phase 3 trial, we randomly assigned patients with newly diagnosed IDH1-mutated acute myeloid leukemia who were ineligible for intensive induction chemotherapy to receive oral ivosidenib (500 mg once daily) and subcutaneous or intravenous azacitidine (75 mg per square meter of body-surface area for 7 days in 28-day cycles) or to receive matched placebo and azacitidine. The primary end point was event-free survival, defined as the time from randomization until treatment failure (i.e., the patient did not have complete remission by week 24), relapse from remission, or death from any cause, whichever occurred first. RESULTS: The intention-to-treat population included 146 patients: 72 in the ivosidenib-and-azacitidine group and 74 in the placebo-and-azacitidine group. At a median follow-up of 12.4 months, event-free survival was significantly longer in the ivosidenib-and-azacitidine group than in the placebo-and-azacitidine group (hazard ratio for treatment failure, relapse from remission, or death, 0.33; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.16 to 0.69; P = 0.002). The estimated probability that a patient would remain event-free at 12 months was 37% in the ivosidenib-and-azacitidine group and 12% in the placebo-and-azacitidine group. The median overall survival was 24.0 months with ivosidenib and azacitidine and 7.9 months with placebo and azacitidine (hazard ratio for death, 0.44; 95% CI, 0.27 to 0.73; P = 0.001). Common adverse events of grade 3 or higher included febrile neutropenia (28% with ivosidenib and azacitidine and 34% with placebo and azacitidine) and neutropenia (27% and 16%, respectively); the incidence of bleeding events of any grade was 41% and 29%, respectively. The incidence of infection of any grade was 28% with ivosidenib and azacitidine and 49% with placebo and azacitidine. Differentiation syndrome of any grade occurred in 14% of the patients receiving ivosidenib and azacitidine and 8% of those receiving placebo and azacitidine. CONCLUSIONS: Ivosidenib and azacitidine showed significant clinical benefit as compared with placebo and azacitidine in this difficult-to-treat population. Febrile neutropenia and infections were less frequent in the ivosidenib-and-azacitidine group than in the placebo-and-azacitidine group, whereas neutropenia and bleeding were more frequent in the ivosidenib-and-azacitidine group. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The incidence of follicular lymphoma (FL) in Taiwan has not been well investigated since its inclusion as a histological subtype in the Taiwan Cancer Registry in 2008. The purpose of this study was to describe the incidence patterns of FL in Taiwan and compare the trends with those in other racial groups in the United States. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted an epidemiological study using population-based data from the Taiwan Cancer Registry, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the 18 Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registries to evaluate the FL incidence from 2008 to 2017. We calculated the annual percent change (APC) to describe the trends in the incidence of FL in subpopulations defined by race and sex over time. RESULTS: The annual age-adjusted incidence rate of FL in Taiwan increased significantly from 0.59 per 100,000 persons in 2008 to 0.82 per 100,000 persons in 2017, with an APC of 3.2. By contrast, the incidence rate in whites in the United States during the same period decreased from 3.42 to 2.74 per 100,000 persons, with an APC of -2.1. We found no significant change for the blacks (APC, -1.5%), Hispanics (APC, -0.7%), and Asians or Pacific Islanders (APC, +0.7%). The temporal trend was similar between the males and females. The relative frequency of FL among the incident non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) cases also increased significantly in Taiwan from 7.64% in 2008 to 11.11% in 2017 (APC = 3.8). The relative frequency of FL among the incident NHL cases in the whites decreased from 2008 to 2012 (APC, -3.8%) and then stabilized after 2012 (APC, -0.2%). By contrast, little change in relative frequency of FL among the incident NHL cases was observed in the blacks, Hispanics, and APIs between 2008 and 2017. CONCLUSION: We found increases in the incidence of FL and the relative frequency of FL among the incident NHL cases in both males and females in Taiwan from 2008 to 2017. The FL incidence rates were unchanged for all races and sex groups in the United States, except for the decreases in the whites.
