ABSTRACT

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are a complex group of malignant tumors originating from nerve cells or benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors and are commonly found in major plexus/nerve root sites such as the limbs, head, and neck. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors originating in the ureter are extremely rare. Herein, we report the case of a 63-year-old patient with a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor of the right ureter who underwent laparoscopic radical resection of the right kidney and ureter. The patient also had stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD). Therefore, chemotherapy and radiotherapy were not considered. No tumor recurrence was observed during the follow-up period.

ABSTRACT

Aqueous stability is a critical property for the application of metal-organic framework (MOF) materials in humid conditions. The sampling of the free energy surface for a water reaction is challenging due to a lack of a reactive force field. Here, we developed a ReaxFF force field for simulating the reaction of zeolitic imidazole frameworks (ZIFs) with water. We carried out metadynamics simulations based on ReaxFF to study the reaction of water with a few different types of MOFs. We also conducted an experimental water immersion test and characterized the XRD, TG, and gas adsorption properties of the MOFs before and after the immersion test. By considering the energy barrier for a hydrolysis reaction, the simulation results are in good agreement with the experiments. MOFs with open structures and large pores are found to be unstable in metadynamics simulations, where the water molecule can attack or bond with the metallic node relatively easily. In contrast, it is more difficult for water to attack the Zn atom in the ZnN4 tetrahedral structure of ZIFs. We also found that ZIFs with the -NO2 functional groups have higher water stability. Discrepancies between the metadynamics simulation and gas adsorption experiments have been accounted for from the phase/crystallinity change of the structure reflected in the X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetry analysis of the MOF samples.

ABSTRACT

We report the synthesis and structure of single-walled aluminosilicate nanotubes with microporous zeolitic walls. This quasi-one-dimensional zeolite is assembled by a bolaform structure-directing agent (SDA) containing a central biphenyl group connected by C10 alkyl chains to quinuclidinium end groups. High-resolution electron microscopy and diffraction, along with other supporting methods, revealed a unique wall structure that is a hybrid of characteristic building layers from two zeolite structure types, beta and MFI. This hybrid structure arises from minimization of strain energy during the formation of a curved nanotube wall. Nanotube formation involves the early appearance of a mesostructure due to self-assembly of the SDA molecules. The biphenyl core groups of the SDA molecules show evidence of π stacking, whereas the peripheral quinuclidinium groups direct the microporous wall structure.

ABSTRACT

Finned hierarchical MOF particles (Cu(BDC) nanosheets as fins grown perpendicularly on Ni2(BDC)2(DABCO) hexagonal prisms) were synthesized on modified cellulose support. The hierarchical MOF particles exposed the open Cu(II) sites on Cu(BDC) to enable selective 1-hexene/n-hexane separation.

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a novel voltametric procedure for 7-hydroxycoumarin determination by using a nanogold/poly-thionine modified electrode. The characterization of nanomaterials has been conducted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical methods. The electrochemical sensing of 7-hydroxycoumarin was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). By combining the excellent electrocatalytic property of nanogold and polymer materials, this sensor shows an improved electrochemical response for 7-hydroxycoumarin detection with a good linear relationship in the range of 5.0 × 10-6 - 3.0 × 10-5 mol L-1; the detection limit was 1.0 × 10-6 mol L-1. This method solves the problem that 7-hydroxycoumarin cannot be accurately quantified on a bare glassy carbon electrode, and also improves the detection sensitivity. This is expected to play a huge potential in the quantitative analysis of quality control, plasma concentration monitoring and mechanism research in vivo of this drug.

ABSTRACT

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of customizable porous material, which have shown good performance in separation processes, because of their large surface area and molecular recognition property. Although the effects of chemical structure of MOFs on their separation performance were extensively studied, the exploration of their surface properties was still limited. This work demonstrated a MOF nanosheet with large amount of coordinatively unsaturated metal sites, Cu(BDC) (copper(II) benzenedicarboxylate), where the unsaturated Cu sites were utilized to selectively adsorb organic molecules with Lewis basicity. This work also investigated the direct growth of Cu(BDC) on the cellulose substrate, where the MOF nanosheets were immobilized on the cellulose substrate, enabling the composite material for practical applications. The heterogeneous nucleation and growth of MOF nanosheets on the cellulose were achieved by tuning the basicity of solution and reaction temperature. We believe this direct growth approach can be applied to other MOF composite materials for separation and purification purposes, as well as other applications involving molecular recognition properties of MOFs, such as sensing, catalysis, and enzyme immobilization.
