ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the application value of eye tracking in lie detection. Methods The 40 subjects were randomly divided into two groups. The pupil diameter, fixation duration, points of fixation and blink frequency of the subjects in the experimental group in observing target stimulation and non-target stimulation were recorded with eye tracker after they accomplished the mock crime. The eye movement parameters of subjects in the control group were directly collected. The differences in eye movement parameters of the experimental group and the control group in observing target stimulation and non-target stimulation were analyzed by t-test. Pearson coefficient analysis of correlation between eye movement parameters that had differences was conducted. The effectiveness of eye movement parameters to distinguish between the experimental group and the control group was calculated by the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve. Results Participants from the experimental group had shorter average pupil diameter, longer average fixation duration and fewer fixation points (P<0.05), but the differences in blink frequency had no statistical significance. The differences in the above indicators of the control group in observing target stimulation and non-target stimulation had no statistical significance. The average fixation duration showed a negative correlation with fixation points (r=-0.255, P<0.05); the average fixation duration showed a negative correlation with average pupil diameter (r=-0.218, P<0.05); the fixation points showed a positive correlation with average pupil diameter (r=0.09, P<0.05). The area under the curve of average pupil diameter, average fixation duration and fixation points was 0.603, 0.621 and 0.580, respectively. Conclusion The average pupil diameter, average fixation duration and fixation points obtained by the eye tracker under laboratory conditions can be used to detect lies.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prognostic potential of postoperative scores of inflammation indexes and the dynamic changes of scores before and after tumor resection in colorectal cancer patients. The study included 516 colorectal cancer patients with primary colorectal tumor resection. Cox regression was applied to estimate the associations of postoperative and dynamic changes of inflammation indexes with progression-free survival and overall survival. As results, we found that higher postoperative neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), neutrophil and monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (NMLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and systemic immune inflammation index (SII) were associated with shorter progression-free survival. The increased NLR, NMLR, PLR, SII and C-reaction protein (CRP) to albumin (ALB) ratio (CAR) were associated with poor progression-free survival, with HRs (95% CIs) of 1.92 (1.27-2.90), 1.46 (1.11-2.09), 2.10 (1.34-3.30), 1.81 (1.22-2.70) and 1.65 (1.03-2.67), respectively. Postoperative NMLR, SII, CAR, and their dynamic changes were also significantly correlated with overall survival, with the HRs (95% CIs) of 2.63 (1.30-3.97), 2.44 (1.43-4.17), 2.74 (1.31-5.74), 2.08 (1.21-3.60), 1.97 (1.12-3.45) and 2.55 (1.21-5.38) respectively. In conclusion, postoperative inflammation indexes and their dynamic changes, particularly for NMLR, SII and CAR are promising prognostic predictors of CRC patients.

ABSTRACT

AIM To observe the effects of Tangzhi Kangping Granules (Astragali Radix,Ligustri lucidi Fructus,Schisandrae chinensis Fructus, etc.) on regulating blood sugar and lipid of rats with glucose and lipid metabolism disorders.METHODS Among the seventy rats for the trial, ten rats were randomly assigned to normal control group, the other 60 rats were injected with STZ citric acid-sodium citrate solution (60 mg/kg) combined with high-fat emulsion (10 mL/kg) for 4 weeks to be the models of glucose and lipid metabolism disorders. The model rats were divided into model control group, mefformin + fenofibrate group,Xiaoke Pills + Xuezhikang group, and high, medium and low dose Tangzhi Kangping Granules groups. After 4-week intragastric administration, the rats had their levels of fasting serum glucose (GLU),triglyceride (TG),total cholesterol (TC),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),low density lipids (LDL-C),insulin (INS),adiponectin (ADP),leptin (Leptin),interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) measured.RESULTS Compared with the model control group, the rats in high, medium and low dose Tangzhi Kangping Granules groups displayed significantly decreased serum contents of GLU,TG and TC,lowered levels of LDL-C,ADP,Leptin,IL-6,TNF-α,and yet significantly increased levels of HDL-C and INS.CONCLUSION Tangzhi Kangping Granules,a blood sugar andlipid regulator may adjust the levels of insulin, adiponectin and leptin, and therefore improves the body's inflammatory environment to alleviate insulin resistance.
