ABSTRACT

Herein, using an electrophoretic deposition strategy, a S-scheme CdS (cubic)/BiVO4 (monoclinic) heterostructured photocatalyst is fabricated. The as-synthesized photocatalysts exhibit high carrier separation efficiency, prominent hydrogen evolution ability and high stability. The results of the detailed density functional theory (DFT) prove that the photogenerated electrons and holes are located in BiVO4 and CdS components, respectively. Besides, an explicit solvent model based on the electron-enriched region in CdS/BiVO4 heterojunction is designed deliberately to investigate the solid/liquid interface issues. Intriguing findings demonstrate that the surface hydrogen diffusing rate in CdS/BiVO4/H2O is faster than that of BiVO4/H2O and is highly associated with the electron-enrich effect, which has a greater capacity to promote water decomposition, the possibility of proton collision and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. Notably, the H p orbital can participate in the electron-enrich effect during solvation, thus reforming the orbital energy level and activating the HER of the BiVO4 component in the CdS/BiVO4 system.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess the survival outcomes among patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (CA) who received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in China. METHODS: Relevant studies, published between January 1, 2010 and September 5, 2022, were retrieved from databases, including EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, the China Biology Medicine disk, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases. We included clinical studies in which all patients were diagnosed with CA and underwent out-of-hospital CPR, and the outcome variables were at least one of the following: return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), survival to admission, survival to hospital discharge, 1-month survival, achieved good neurological outcomes, and 1-year survival. Two investigators independently extracted the study data and assessed its quality using a modified Newcastle-Ottawa Scale tool. The data were pooled using random-effects models. RESULTS: Of the 3620 identified studies, 49 (63,378 patients) were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled ROSC rate was 9.0% (95% confidence interval [CI] 7.5-10.5%, I2 = 97%), the pooled survival to admission rate was 5.0% (95% CI 2.7-8.0%, I2 = 98%), and the pooled survival to discharge rate was 1.8% (95% CI 1.2-2.5%, I2 = 95%). Additionally, the ROSC rate of patients with bystander CPR was significantly higher than that of those without bystander CPR, and the pooled odds ratio (OR) was 7.92 (95% CI 4.32-14.53, I2 = 85%). The ROSC rate of participants who started CPR within 5 min was significantly higher than that of those who started CPR after 5 min, and the pooled OR was 5.92 (95% CI 1.92-18.26, I2 = 85%). The ROSC rate of participants with defibrillation was significantly higher than that of those without defibrillation, and the pooled OR was 8.52 (95% CI 3.72-19.52, I2 = 77%). CONCLUSION: The survival outcomes of out-of-hospital CPR in China are far below the world average. Therefore, the policy of providing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in public places and strengthening CPR training for healthcare providers and public personnel should be encouraged and disseminated nationwide. Trial registration This study was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022326165) on 29 April 2022.

ABSTRACT

RATIONALE: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and Kimura's disease (KD) which is quite rare are both chronic inflammatory diseases. Recently we encountered a patient who suffered from KD and AS, and some of his family members also suffer from AS. We, therefore, investigated this unique case and conducted the family-based whole exome sequencing to explore the possible genetic alterations. PATIENT CONCERNS: Here, we reported a case of a 44-year-old Chinese man with multiple painless masses all over his body and a back pain for 32 years. His uncle and sister were diagnosed with AS. DIAGNOSIS: The diagnosis of KD was based on the patient's clinical features and the biopsy of the neck masses. The diagnosis of AS was based on the patient's clinical features, HLA-B27(+) and the radiologic changes of sacroiliac joints. The genetic test showed that ARPC1B gene which was associated with recurrent infections, auto-inflammatory changes and elevated IgE levels was mutated in this patient. INTERVENTIONS: Neck masses were removed by surgery. Systemic glucocorticoid, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, combined with cyclosporine were orally administered, and Etanercept was injected subcutaneously. OUTCOMES: The masses disappeared rapidly after surgery combined with systemic glucocorticoid, but relapsed shortly after the therapy was discontinued. Low dose glucocorticoid, cyclosporine and Etanercept could keep both KD and AS remained long-term remission. LESSONS: Our experience suggests that low dose glucocorticoid, cyclosporine and Etanercept could be beneficial for the patient with KD and AS. The mutation of ARPC1B gene in this case, which is associated with immunologic disturbance, may increase the susceptibility of KD.

ABSTRACT

Glutamatergic modulators may have therapeutic potential in the treatment of depressive disorder (DD), riluzole, as a modulating drug of the glutamatergic system, its antidepressant efficacy and safety of riluzole for DD are inconsistent. This meta-analysis was performed to determine the efficacy and safety of riluzole used for DD. A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, VIP and other databases from 1980 to 2019. The primary outcome was change in depression severity and meta-analysis was performed using comprehensive meta-analysis software. Seven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. There was some difference in depression severity change in riluzole-citalopram therapy. No significant differences were observed in response rate, remission rate, relapse rate and adverse events, while, the relapse time in riluzole group was longer than placebo group. In this meta-analysis riluzole showed no antidepressant efficacy compared to placebo in monotherapy or riluzole-ketamine combined therapy, while it might relieve depression severity to some extent in riluzole-citalopram therapy. Furthermore, riluzole showed favorable safety for DD. The longer relapse time of riluzole group might have clinical significance to some extent, although this had no statistical difference. More studies are needed to clarify the potential association between riluzole and DD.
