ABSTRACT

Three kinds of hydrophobic/acidic bifunctional ionic liquids, which contain two different anions, were synthesized and utilized as catalysts for the conversion of cellulosic saccharides into alkyl glucosides, which exhibit a high catalytic conversion for cellobiose and cellulose with a low degree of crystallinity; the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused.

ABSTRACT

Ionic liquids with buffering characteristics, synthesized by the reaction of [RMIM]OH base moieties with phthalic and tartaric acid, respectively, are potential reagents for controlling pH in non-aqueous media; remarkable [Base]/[Acid] molar ratio dependence of the catalytic activities has been observed in the hydrogenation of olefins with [RuCl2(PPh3)3] complex in DMF and [BMIM][BF4].
