ABSTRACT

Liver is the common site for metastasis and spread of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Lung cancer patients with liver metastasis have poor prognosis, which may be related to liver-specific microenvironment composition. The metastasis of lung cancer to the liver is regulated by various pathophysiological factors, including the liver immune microenvironment, related cells, proteins, signaling molecules, and gene changes. These factors will affect the consistent disease process and subsequent treatment strategies. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have made breakthroughs in treatment of patients with advanced NSCLC. However, NSCLC patients with liver metastasis, a unique population of advanced lung cancer, are characterized by poor immunotherapeutic effect. This paper reviews the related mechanisms of the immune microenvironment in affecting the occurrence and development of liver metastases and summarizes the achievements and prospects of anti-tumor immunotherapy in liver metastases of NSCLC.

ABSTRACT

Although tumor treatment models have been continuously improved in clinical practice, cancer remains a serious threat to human health. The effect of probiotics on tumor therapy has received extensive attention. As a common colonizer of the intestinal mucosa, Akkermansia muciniphila(AKK) has a well-defined role in metabolic diseases, but its complex role in tumor development and therapeutic efficacy has not been fully elucidated. The unique properties and physiological roles of AKK play an important role in different solid tumors and it may be a potential biomarker. This article provides a review of previous studies and proposes clinical strategies to influence the abundance of AKK to provide a theoretical reference for the development of next-generation probiotics and the reshaping of the tumor treatment landscape.

ABSTRACT

The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant has become the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant around the world and exhibits immune escape to current COVID-19 vaccines to some extent due to its numerous spike mutations. Here, we evaluated the immune responses to booster vaccination with intramuscular adenovirus-vectored vaccine (Ad5-nCoV), aerosolized Ad5-nCoV, a recombinant protein subunit vaccine (ZF2001) or homologous inactivated vaccine (CoronaVac) in those who received two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines 6 months prior. We found that the Ad5-nCoV booster induced potent neutralizing activity against the wild-type virus and Omicron variant, while aerosolized Ad5-nCoV generated the greatest neutralizing antibody responses against the Omicron variant at day 28 after booster vaccination, at 14.1-fold that of CoronaVac, 5.6-fold that of ZF2001 and 2.0-fold that of intramuscular Ad5-nCoV. Similarly, the aerosolized Ad5-nCoV booster produced the greatest IFN{gamma} T-cell response at day 14 after booster vaccination. The IFN{gamma} T-cell response to aerosolized Ad5-nCoV was 12.8-fold for CoronaVac, 16.5-fold for ZF2001, and 5.0-fold for intramuscular Ad5-nCoV. Aerosolized Ad5-nCoV booster also produced the greatest spike-specific B cell response. Our findings suggest that inactivated vaccine recipients should consider adenovirus-vectored vaccine boosters in China and that aerosolized Ad5-nCoV may provide a more efficient alternative in response to the spread of the Omicron variant.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, aiming at the problem of chrome-iron separation in electroplating sludge, the separation of ferrochrome by complexation and precipitation with benzoic acid as complexing agent is achieved. The optimal conditions consisted of a 1: 3 molar ratio of Fe3+: C6H5COOH, a reaction temperature of 30°C, a final pH of 2.5 and a reaction time of 2 min. The separation rate of the iron was 97.38% and the rate of loss of chromium was only 3.59%. The ferrochromium separation products were analyzed by XRD, fluorescence spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and H NMR Spectroscopy in order to study the mechanism of precipitation. The results showed that benzoic acid preferentially forms a complex with iron and iron benzoate precipitates with an increase pH. The iron benzoate crystals have a fine particle size, settle rapidly and are easy to filter. The separation of Cr 3+/Fe3+ was successful using our methodology.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To probe into the causes, reconstructive strategies, and repair outcomes of asymmetric eyelid configuration after blepharoplasty. Methods:All 73 patients (14 males and 59 females) with asymmetric double eyelid after blepharoplasty were recruited between July 2013 and June 2018 from Department of Plastic and Burns Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University. The patients aged from 18 years to 42 years with the median age of 27 years. The new double eyelid line was designed pre-operation. Releasing subcutaneous adhesion of upper eyelid entirely, trimming inferior orbicularis oculi, adjusting and comparing the attachment position of bilateral levator aponeurosis were performed during surgery. Patients and surgeons marked the appearance of double eyelid both before and after repair operation, results of which were analyzed by t-test.Results:All 73 patients obtained improved double eyelid with primary healing. During follow-up from 8 to 12 months, repaired double eyelid showed satisfactory configuration with smooth natural double eyelid line and symmetric bilateral double eyelid. Of the 73 patients, 3 (4.1%) complaint rough double eyelid line, for whom re-fixation through small incision were adopted and no complication was observed during follow-up time. Scores by patients and surgeons were both significantly better after surgery. Conclusions:Analyzing the causes of asymmetric eyelid after double-eyelid blepharoplasty and repairing it contribute to aesthetic pleasing reconstructed double eyelid.

ABSTRACT

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has rapidly spread globally. Cancer patients are at a higher risk of being infected with the coronavirus and are more likely to develop severe complications, as compared to the general population. The increasing spread of COVID-19 presents challenges for the clinical care of patients with gynecological malignancies. Concerted efforts should be put into managing gynecological malignancies in an orderly manner by strictly implementing the measures that are specifically developed for controlling the spread of COVID-19. We have drafted Recommendations on Management of Gynecological Malignancies during the COVID-19 Pandemic based on our experience on controlling COVID-19 pandemic in China. We recommend that patients with gynecological malignancies should be managed in hierarchical and individualized manners in combination with local conditions related to COVID-19. Medical care decision should be balanced between controlling COVID-19 pandemic spread and timely diagnosis and treatment for gynecologic oncology patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective:This work aims to detect the levels of miR-200c/141 methylation and miR-200c/141 in gastric cancer tissue and investigate the relationship between miR-200c/141 expression and clinical parameters. Methods:The methylation status of miR-200c/141 CpG island and miR-200c/141 in gastric cancer tissue specimens was evaluated by qRT-PCR or BS-MSP method. We analyzed the relationship among the methylation status of miR-200c/141 CpG island, expression level of miR-200c or miR-141, and clinical parame-ters. Results:The status of miR-200c/141 CpG island methylation in gastric cancer tissue was significantly higher compared with that in paracarcinoma tissue. MiR-200c and miR-141 were markedly decreased in gastric cancer tissue compared with those in adjacent tis-sue. MiR-200c/141 CpG island methylation was negatively related with the expression of miR-200c and miR-141 in gastric cancer speci-mens. Conclusion:The upregulation of miR-200c/141 CpG methylation inhibits miR-200c/141 expression in gastric cancer tissue.

ABSTRACT

Eggs continue to be significant in terms of the world economy and human nutrition. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of foodborne pathogens in a cross section of egg production types in China and to examine the virulence features of the isolated pathogens. Three hundred eggs from three provinces were tested for Salmonella , Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureus , and Campylobacter . Two eggs were positive for Salmonella , one was positive for both E. coli and S. aureus , and none were positive for Campylobacter . When comparing different egg laying systems, there were no significant differences in findings between packaged and unpackaged eggs and between battery cage and cage-free eggs, but there were significant differences in the findings among pathogens and among provinces. Other potential foodborne pathogens were identified in addition to the targeted pathogens. The virulence of Serratia marcescens was higher than that of the isolated Salmonella Typhimurium, and the virulence of Staphylococcus saprophyticus was comparable to that of the isolated S. aureus . These findings are important for local risk assessments concerning possible human foodborne infections via cross-contamination of eggs.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Choriocarcinoma is a kind of trophoblastic neoplasm with highly aggressive phenotypes. Forkhead box D3 (FoxD3) is an embryonic and trophoblastic stem cel transcription factor. It plays important roles in different physical and pathological situations such as embryogenesis, carcinogenesis and tumor progression. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the role of FoxD3 in choriocarcinoma malignancy and the possible mechanism. METHODS:The human choriocarcinoma JAR cel line was employed in this study. The mRNA and protein expressions of genes were measured by quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blot, respectively. The FoxD3 specific short hair RNA was applied to down-regulate gene expression. The cel proliferation was evaluatedin vitro by cel counting assay andin vivo by tumor growth. The migration/invasion was determined by transwel assay. The profile of FoxD3 targeted genes was investigated with an Agilent microarray and verified by qRT-PCR. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The FoxD3 mRNA and protein expressions in JAR cells were significantly higher than those in primarily cultured normal trophoblastic cells. Knockdown of FoxD3 by short hair RNA in JAR cells could inhibit cell proliferation and migration/invasionin vitro, and suppress thetumor growth with decreased β-human chorionic gonadotropin secretionin vivo. A profile of seven focal adhesion molecules (ITGA5, ITGB6, THBS4, COL6A3, VTN, NRXN3 and NLGN1) was verified to be targeted by FoxD3. Furthermore, knockdown of FoxD3 by short hair RNA could decrease the activation of focal adhesion kinase. All these findings suggest the overexpression of FoxD3 can contribute to the aggressive phenotype of choriocarcinoma JAR cells by regulating the profile of focal adhesion molecules and focal adhesion kinase.

ABSTRACT

Lymph node metastasis is the main prognostic factor of endometrial cancer patients. As the metastasis of early endometrial cancer patients is very low,it remains a controversy whether these patients are necessary to undergo conventional lymphadenectomy and a challenge to confirm the scope of lymph node dissection. We intend to demonstrate the application of lymphadenectomy in patients with early endometrial cancer via the impact of lymphadenectomy on the prognosis of these patients. The risk factors for lymph node metastasis of endometrial cancers were analyzed to explore its value in the surgical option.Furthermore, the guidance of sentinel lymph node in surgical staging and prognostic prediction of early endometrial cancer was explored to clarify the applied condition and scope of lymphadenectomy in these patients.

ABSTRACT

Based on special biological characteristics and prognosis, the incidence of gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (GEJA) has rapidly increased over recent years, and its diagnosis and treatment remain controversial. Compared with simple surgery, neo-adjuvant and adjuvant therapies can improve the survival of patients with locally advanced GEJA. Under neo-adjuvant therapy, neo-adjuvant chemoradiation is superior to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy alone for improving the resectability, maintaining loco-regional control, and improving the quality of life of the patient. The combination of this therapy with targeted drugs may further increase the ef-ficacy of GEJA. Most data on GEJA-treated patients were obtained from randomized clinical studies on esophageal cancer or gastric cancer. Thus, prospective randomized controlled studies with a large sample size should be performed to optimize the strategy of neo-adjuvant and adjuvant therapies, and further improve the treatment outcome. In this article, studies on the comprehensive treatment of GEJA were reviewed.
