ABSTRACT

Revealing the energy transfer (ET) process from excitons to rare earth ions in halide perovskites has great guiding value for designing optoelectronic materials. Here, the multiple ET channels in multi-exciton emissive Sb3+ /Nd3+ co-doped Cs2 ZrCl6 are explored to comprehend the ET processes. Förster-Dexter ET theory reveals that the sensitizer concentration rather than the overlap integral of the spectra plays the leading function in the comparison of the ET efficiency among multiple ET channels from the host self-trapped excitons (STEs) and dopant triplet STEs to Nd3+ ions. Besides, Sb3+ /Nd3+ co-doped Cs2 ZrCl6 enables varied color delivery and has great potential as anti-counterfeiting material. Under X-ray irradiation, Sb3+ /Nd3+ co-doped Cs2 ZrCl6 presents a high light yield of ≈13300 photons MeV-1 and promising X-ray imaging ability. This work provides new insight for investigating the ET efficiency among multiple ET processes and presents great potentiality of multi-exciton emissive perovskites in the fields of anti-counterfeiting and X-ray imaging.

ABSTRACT

Xanthan gum can improve the freeze-thaw stability of frozen foods. However, the high viscosity and long hydration time of xanthan gum limits its application. In this study, ultrasound was employed to reduce the viscosity of xanthan gum, and the effect of ultrasound on its physicochemical, structural, and rheological properties was investigated using High-performance size-exclusion chromatography (HPSEC), ion chromatograph, methylation analysis, 1H NMR, rheometer, etc.. The application of ultrasonic-treated xanthan gum was evaluated in frozen dough bread. Results showed that the molecular weight of xanthan gum was reduced significantly by ultrasonication (from 3.0 × 107 Da to 1.4 × 106 Da), and the monosaccharide compositions and linkage patterns of sugar residues were altered. Results revealed that ultrasonication treatment mainly broke the molecular backbone at a lower intensity, then mainly broke the side chains with increasing intensity, which significantly reduced the apparent viscosity and viscoelastic properties of xanthan gum. The results of specific volume and hardness showed that the bread containing low molecular weight xanthan gum was of better quality. Overall, this work offers a theoretical foundation for broadening the application of xanthan gum and improving its performance in frozen dough.

ABSTRACT

Potentilla anserina L., a well-known perennial herb, is widely used in traditional Tibetan medicine and used as a delicious food in humans. The present investigation reports on the activity of P. anserina phenols (PAP) in regulating glycolipid metabolism in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Insulin sensitivity tests showed that PAP improved insulin-stimulated glucose uptake by promoting the phosphorylation of serine/threonine kinase Akt. Moreover, an assay involving the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes demonstrated that PAP also decreased the accumulation of lipid droplets by suppressing the expression of adipokines during the differentiation process. In addition, the underlying mechanism from the aspects of energy metabolism and oxidative stress is also discussed. The improvement in energy metabolism was supported by an increase in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and intracellular ATP. Amelioration of oxidative stress was supported by decreased levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). In summary, our findings suggest that PAP can ameliorate the disorder of glycolipid metabolism in insulin resistant 3T3-L1 adipocytes by improving energy metabolism and oxidative stress and might be an attractive candidate for the treatment of diabetes.

ABSTRACT

CP23 gene of Cryptosporidium parvum was expressed in Escherichia coli, and the recombinant protein was purified. Its immunoreactivity was analyzed by Western blotting. Serum samples were collected from outpatients of different ages from August to November, 2010 in Changchun. Indirect ELISA was established to detect the anti-CP23 IgG in sera. Western blotting analysis indicated that the recombinant CP23 protein was recognized by sera from Cryptosporidium panum-infected calves and positive human sera, but not recognized by sera of mice infected with Schistosoma japonicum, sera from falciparum malaria patients and negative human sera. The overall anti-CP23 IgG positive rate was 3.2% (65/2 046). The seropositive rate was 2.7% (28/1 036) in men and 3.7% (37/1 010) in women (P > 0.05). The seropositive rates were significantly different among age groups (P < 0.05), and the age group of 71-80 had the highest positive rate (8.6%, 13/152).
