ABSTRACT

The removal of organophosphorus pesticides residues from wastewater of fruits and vegetables processing as well as other agricultural processes by a low-cost, environment-friendly, and efficient strategy is necessary. In this study, rice bran protein (RBP) was cross-linked with ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN). The results showed that the cross-linking process generated new functional groups and significantly enhanced the chemical reactivity and adsorption capacity of RBP. The RBPC showed rough and porous surface structure compared with smooth surface structure for RBP. In addition, greatest adsorption capacity of 193.0 mg/g and omethoate removal efficiency of 72.1% was achieved, and the results fitted well with Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second order models. Moreover, Omethoate (5 mg/L) removal efficiency maintained over 60% after 5 cycles of RBPC usage. Therefore, the obtained RBPC complex can be suggested as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of pesticide residues from wastewater.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the inhibitory effects of Typhonium Giganteum soft capsules on tumor growth in Hep-2 tumor-bearing nude mice and its effects on the expression of tumor suppressor p53 gene; To discuss its mechanism of action. Methods Human liver cancer Hep-2 cell suspension back subcutaneous vaccination was conducted to prepare tumor models. BALB/c nude mice were randomly divided into model group, cisplatinum group, and TCM high-, medium-, and low-dose groups. Each group was given relevant medicine for gavage, once a day for 21 days. Growth changes of tumor volume were monitored; HE staining was used to observe pathological changes of tumor tissues; RT-PCR was used to detect the expression of p53 gene in tumor tissue of Hep-2 nude mice. Results Compared with the model group, all medication groups could inhibit the tumor growth, and the anti-tumor rates were 55.1%, 42.8%, 30.1%, and 79.5%, respectively; the expression of p53 gene increased; pathological observation results showed that the number and the volume of tumor cells increased, with cytoplasm rarefaction and nucleus anachromasis. All medication groups had karyopyknosis, slight staining, and decreasing blood capillary and focal necrosis in varying degrees.ConclusionTyphonium Giganteum soft capsules can inhibit the growth of human liver cancer, and its mechanism may be associated with the up-regulating expression of p53 gene leading to apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of regulators of G protein signaling(RGS), including RGS2, RGS3 and RGS4 in OLETF rats, as well as the effects of metformin on these expressions. Methods LETO rats were used as control group. Eight-week-old male OLETF rats were assigned to two guoups randomly:model and trial(metfomin dose during 8~(th) to 22~(nd) weeks:300mg kg~(-1)·d~(-1);during 23rd to 28th weeks:400 mg·kg~(-1) ·d~(-1))groups. Expressions of RGS mRNA in aorta and heart werequantified by real-time PCR. Results RGS2, RGS3 and RGS4 mRNA of the thoracic aorta and left ventricle were significantly higher in model group than in control group (P<0.01). Compared with model group, metformin significantly reduced their mRNA in trial group (P<0.01). Conclusions Upregulation of RGS2, RGS3 and RGS4 mRNA expression in the thoracic aorta and left ventricle of OLETF rats is in correlation with cardiovascular lesions; while downregulation of their expression is in correlation with the action of metformin.
