ABSTRACT

A 44-year-old woman was diagnosed as having unilateral multiple progradient pigmented macules and papules of the upper extremity and adjacent part of the back. Microscopically increased amounts of melanin and melanocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis in the early developmental stage of macules were seen. Combinations of blue nevus with junctional or compound nevus or with a simple proliferation of melanocytes in the epidermis were present in the papules. The question of prognosis is discussed.

ABSTRACT

In a study on 30 patients suffering from arterio-venous leg ulcers, we found an increased blood level of 2,3biphosphoglycerate (10.33 mumol/ml; control group: 5.16 mumol/ml). This difference, which is statistically significant (p less than 0.001), shows that the blood oxygen pressure is lower both in the tissue of the leg ulcer (literary communication) and in the whole body.

ABSTRACT

The authors describe the case of a male patient, 20 years old, with a rapidly developing picture of disseminated lichen ruber planus together with the formation of vesicles and blisters. Immunofluorescent examination demonstrated lichen ruber associated with bullous pemphigoid. A good therapeutic effect was obtained with a combination of Triamcinolon and Tigason.

ABSTRACT

Our case is dealing with a very rare combination of sclerodermia bullosa with diabetes mellitus. Ulceration and secondary bacterial infection appeared as a complication. The possible pathophysiological mechanisms which may influence this unusual coindidence are discussed in the paper.

ABSTRACT

There is a wide range of dermatological symptoms that are indicative of alcoholism. In the literature little attention is paid to these manifestations. In the present study 201 alcoholics were examined before beginning treatment and were compared with 42 teetotallers. The symptoms observed and their causes are discussed.
