ABSTRACT

Upon a slow development of the hypercapnic state aggravated by a lowered oxygen content in the breathing air the oxygen supply of the human body decreases noticeably. This occurs at rest as well. An increase in the oxygen content in the breathing air to 20-22% alleviates the adverse hypercapnic effect and, consequently, improves gas exchange parameters.
