Iatrogenic hallux varus can be an unfortunate complication of hallux abducto valgus surgery. The correction of hallux varus must be performed in a well planned, step-wise method. The authors present both soft tissue and osseous corrections for hallux varus, with two case reports.

The authors describe use of the nerve stimulator in conjunction with a percutaneous exploring needle to achieve peripheral blocks accurately and without injuring the nerve. The nerve stimulator allows accurate nerve blocks without causing paresthesiae and the need for additional anesthetic. This technique decreases the possibility of nerve injury.

The patient had two features of N. gonorrhoeae infection, which were urogenital inflammation and pharyngitis. At first, the urogenital inflammation was denied and so delayed the correct diagnosis. The patient had been treated initially with oral penicillin for the pharyngitis, but without effect. The result was because of the increase in penicillin-resistant strains. This created DGI with initial migratory polyarthralgia from his left shoulder to the right midfoot. Acute arthritis formed in the midfoot. Once the correct diagnosis was made and appropriate antibiotics started, the infection responded rapidly and completely.

Although many papers have been written on metatarsus adductus, few have used radiographic criteria for either the diagnosis of or in determining correction of metatarsus adductus. Most use objective clinical appearance as their sole criteria for diagnosis and correction. This paper establishes radiographic criteria for both the diagnosis and correction of metatarsus adductus.
