ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: In this study, first, second, third, and fourth-order derivative spectrophotometric methods utilizing the peak-zero (P-O) and peak-peak (P-P) techniques of measurement were developed for the determination of levofloxacin, norfloxacin, and moxifloxacin. These methods were applied to their combined pharmaceutical dosage form or individually for levofloxacin, norfloxacin, and moxifloxacin. METHODS: Linearity was established in the concentration range of 2-20 µg/mL. The procedures are simple, quick, and precise. The developed methods are sensitive, accurate, and cost-effective, demonstrating excellent correlation coefficients (R2 = 0.9998) and mean recovery values ranging from 99.20% to 100.08%, indicating a high level of precision. RESULTS: The developed approach was effectively employed to determine the levofloxacin, norfloxacin, and moxifloxacin content in commercially available pharmaceutical dosages. CONCLUSIONS: Statistical analysis and recovery tests confirmed the method's linearity and accuracy. The results suggest that this method can be utilized for routine analysis in both bulk and commercial formulations. The simplicity, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of the developed methods make them valuable for pharmaceutical analysis.

ABSTRACT

The achievement of virological response in the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) can improve the extrahepatic manifestations. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of HCV eradication after sofosbuvir/daclatasvir (SOF/DCV) therapy on hematological and inflammatory biomarkers in type 2 diabetic patients infected with HCV genotype 4. Between October 2017 and August 2018, among 145 patients with HCV genotype 4, 30 patients were enrolled in the study based on the fact that they have type 2 diabetes. Enrolled HCV-diabetic patients were treated for 12 weeks with SOF/DCV regimen. Patients were screened by laboratory investigations before treatment (baseline values) and after HCV treatment (post-treatment values). Additionally, 30 healthy individuals were enrolled as a control group. Among the patient's cohort, the sustained virological response was achieved by 100% of the treated patients after 12 weeks of SOF/DCV therapy. Moreover, the levels of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), nitric oxide, interleukin-1ß, red cell distribution width, platelet distribution width, mean platelet volume were improved significantly (P < 0.001) in treated patients after successful viral clearance compared to baseline values. In addition, virological clearance exhibited positive correlations with interleukin-1ß, nitric oxide, leukocytes count, red cell distribution width, and mean platelet volume. In conclusion, the data suggest the potential amelioration effect of HCV eradication after treatment with SOF/DCV regimen on the inflammatory status among HCV-diabetic patients which is reflected by the noticeable improvement of altered hematological indices and inflammatory biomarkers.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Platelet concentrates of the cell separator AS 104 (Fresenius) are compared with those of the cell separator CS 3000 (Fenwal). At each cell separator two platelet preparation protocols and at CS 3000 additionally a WBC preparation protocol was analysed. Platelet counts before and after cellapheresis as well as separation efficiencies show no significant differences between the separation protocols (A, B) and the two cell separators. Platelets of varying volumes show different separation efficiencies. While in WBC concentrates the separation efficiencies of platelets continuously increase from small (2fl) to large (20 fl) platelets, the efficiencies in platelet concentrates decrease in volume range 2 fl-8 fl, and increase in range 8 fl-20 fl. There are no differences between the cell separators. The efficiencies of platelets with 2 fl and 4 fl volumes differ significantly (p less than 0.001) between the protocols A and B of AS 104. After WBC-donation, platelet loss of donors corresponds with platelet yields of the concentrates for the platelet volume range 2 fl-20 fl. Compared with the calculated platelet loss of donors after platelet donation more small platelets with 2 fl-8 fl volumes are found in platelet concentrates. The yields of platelets with 10 fl-20 fl volumes are in accordance with donor's platelet loss.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the emergency medical services system of a health care organization are investigated. The result of this investigation is an on-line Emergency Medical Services Management Information System (ESMIS). ESMIS is implemented using the TOTAL database management system. Reports illustrating the system's performance are also provided. Part 1 (this issue) outlined the ESMIS design procedure, while part 2 is concerned with the specifications of the system's outputs.

ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the problem of how an emergency case is taken care of from its location until the time the case reaches an emergency medical center or a hospital. The result of this investigation is an on-line Emergency Medical Services Management Information System (ESMIS). ESMIS is implemented using the TOTAL database management system. Part 1 outlines, in general, the steps of the ESMIS design procedure and concentrates on one step, namely the specification of ESMIS outputs.
