ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Comparison of standard W/W and CFF perimetry in patients with cataract and lens opacities. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Visual field was measured on Octopus 301 perimeter with option flicker perimetry. W/W and CFF perimetry (Program G1 in TOP strategy) was performed in 44 eyes with cataract and lens opacities. RESULTS: Defects in visual field with CFF perimetry were found in 24% of cases but with W/W perimetry in 100% of cases. CONCLUSIONS: Perimetry CFF is a new tool for early detection and follow up of visual field defects in patients with cataract and lens opacities.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of PRK procedure by estimation: changes of visual acuity, refractive errors, IOP, pachymetry, high order aberrations before and after surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In the First Department and Clinic of Ophthalmology Medical School 22 patients went through ophthalmological examination for PRK procedure. In this study we used MEL 80 excimer laser. There were 13 women (15 eyes) and 5 men (7 eyes). The myopia was corrected from -1.75D till -6.5D. The patients were from 22 to 41 years of age. RESULTS: The correction for myopia by PRK method with MEL 80 excimer laser is effective and safe laser procedure. Stabilization of the refraction post photorefractive keratectomy was after 2 months and there was no increase of intraocular pressure in all cases. The procedure increased the high order aberrations.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Evaluation of total eye aberration in patients with I, II, III degree of keratoconus according to Amsler scale, and results compared with normal group patients, having only refractive error. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The analyzed group of patients consisted of 43 patients (55 eyes), who underwent examinations: visual acuity, subjective and objective refractive error, cornea keratometric power, pupil diameter and total eye aberration performed by System WASCA (Asclepion-Meditec). Our patients were divided in to two groups: group I--16 patients with keratoconus (25 eyes), group II--27 control patients (30 eyes). RESULTS: Comparison of all analyzed parameters in both groups were statistical significant. In eyes with keratoconus coma aberrations excel spherical aberrations.

ABSTRACT

The WASCA analyzer represents a new generation of diagnostic device for ophthalmology. Using the WASCA analyzer one can diagnose the complete visual performance, including information about higher-order aberrations, not available until now. A plane wave from a lowest-power infrared laser is send into the eye. After performing a passage forward and back in the eye, the existing wave is distorted. The wave front distortion contains complete information about the aberrations of the ocular media, along the optical path of the wave. Only, in an ideal emmetropic and aberration-free eye, the out-coming wave is again a plane one. The measurement is fast and easy to perform.

ABSTRACT

UNLABELLED: Construction of aberrometer unit gives us a possibility to clinically measure the optical defects of the eye beyond sphere and cylinder, quickly and efficiently. This technology of measurement quantify ocular aberrations, to design ideal refractive corrections. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate ocular aberrations after PRK and LASIK procedures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We measured the high order aberrations in 114 treated eyes by WASCA System. RESULTS: We noticed that all excimer procedures increased ocular aberrations. The higher aberrations appears after LASIK. The main assignment of excimer laser surgery is planning this type of ablation profile which does not increase aberrations.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Evaluation of CFF perimetry results in patients with suspected glaucoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Visual field was measured on Octopus 301 perimeter with option "flicker perimetry". 49 patients (98 eyes) with suspected glaucoma were tested. Standard W/W perimetry revealed glaucomatous visual field defect in one eye, but not in the second eye. Patients with cataract and diabetes were not taken into consideration. RESULTS: Defects in CFF perimetry tests were found in 71.4% of cases, but in W/W perimetry test in 50.0% of cases. CONCLUSIONS: Perimetry CFF is useful for early detection and follow up of glaucoma. Indices MD and LV may be used for those purposes.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was, to analyse the results of accommodation range measurement obtained in groups of patients of different age. Wavefront aberrometer was used for evaluation of accommodation range of the patients eyes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The accommodation range was analysed in 200 eyes in 100 patients. The examined group of patients was divided into 4 groups, depending on the patients age. GROUP I--AGE: 20-30 years old; group II--age: 31-40 years old; group III--age: 41-50 years old; group IV--age: 51-60 years old. The measurements were analysed using WASCA System depend on: refractive error, sex and difference of pupil diameter for far and near vision. RESULTS: Different ranges of accommodation were obtained. We did not observe any correlation between the accommodation range and the sex and refractive error. We noticed statistically significant differences between the accommodation range and pupil diameter, as well as the patients' age. CONCLUSIONS: The WASCA System is a device, which can be used for analysis of accommodation range. This system gives us the possibility, to trace changes of eye accommodation range in the long period of time.
