ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of root canal therapy (RCT) of maxillary first molars and the relevant influential factors. METHODS: A total of 170 maxillary first molars undergoing endodontic treatment were retrospectively studied. 100 molars were treated with vertical compaction technique (VCT) using warm gutta- percha under dental operating microscope (DOM), while 70 molars with traditional lateral compaction technique (LCT) under naked eyes. All patients were asked to revisit 5 years later and 5-year success rate was evaluated. Reversion 3.0.2 software package was used to analyze the data. RESULTS: The immediate high quality rates of RCT of VCT and LCT were 91% and 75.7%, respectively, which has significant difference (P<0.05). After 5 years, VCT kept high quality rate of RCT, while the high quality rate of RCT with LCT dropped from 75.7% to 68.6%. The 5-year clinical success rates of RCT with VCT and LCT were 98% and 81.4%, respectively; which had significant difference (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: VCT has excellent clinical effect in RCT of maxillary first molars. The use of DOM can increase the detection rate of the second mesiobuccal canal (MB2).

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the epidemiology and the treatment of infected fractures of the mandible. METHODS: Thirty-five cases of infected mandible fractures treated by extra oral open reduction and rigid internal fixation with reconstructive plates were retrospectively investigated. RESULTS: The fracture healing and occlusion recovery of 34 cases were satisfied without any nonunion or deformity, except 1 case healed after bone grafting for bone defect. CONCLUSIONS: The reconstructive plate fixation is applicable to the treatment of infected mandible fractures by its excellent stability and reliability.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and mouse double minute 2 homolog (MDM2) in the oncogenesis of lung cancer in rats and to explore their clinical value. METHODS: A total of 140 rats were selected, of which 20 were selected randomly as the control group; and the remaining 120 as the observation group. The observation group was injected with benzopyrene to establish diseases model such as tissue proliferation, abnormal proliferation and lung cancer. Detected the MMP-9 levels of lung tissue by enzyme-linked assay, detected the MDM2 levels of lung tissue by immunochemistry assay. RESULTS: The MMP-9 and MDM2 expression of the lung cancer group and the abnormal proliferation group were significantly higher than that in the tissue proliferation group and the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05). And the MDM2 expression of the tissue proliferation group was significantly higher than that in the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the MMP-9 expression between the tissue proliferation group and the control group (P>0.05). The MDM2 and MMP-9 expression were increased in turn in the small cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The MMP-9 and MDM2 expressions of stage III and stage IV lung cancer tissue in rats were significant higher than that during stage I and stage II, the difference was significant (P<0.05). There was no significantly different in the MMP-9 and MDM2 expressions between stage III and stage IV(P>0.05), and there is no significant difference of the MMP-9 and MDM2 expressions between stage I and stage II(P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The expression of MMP-9 and MDM2 in lung tissue was associated with lung disease and lung cancer, both of them may be involved in the development and metastasis of lung cancer. Combined detection can be used as therapy and prognostic indicators for lung cancer.

ABSTRACT

The mol-ecular structure of the title complex, [Ni2(C11H13NO3)2]·CH3OH, contains two Ni(II) atoms and two doubly deprotonated 6-meth-oxy-2-{[(3-oxidoprop-yl)imino]-meth-yl}phenolate ligands. The Ni(II) atoms are each four-coordinated in a distorted square-planar geometry by three O atoms and one N atom derived from the phenolate ligands. The solvent mol-ecule is linked to the complex mol-ecule by two O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnosis and surgical treatment of excessive lateral pressure syndrome of the patellofemoral joint caused by military training. METHODS: Fifteen patients (patient group) and 18 healthy volunteers (control group) were involved in this retrospective study. Radiographs of the knee joints of all patients and volunteers were taken. The bone architecture was assessed, the trochlear angle, coincidence angle and patellofemoral joint index measured in both groups, and the resulting data compared. All 15 patients (17 knees) were treated by lateral collateral retinaculum release. Pre- and post-operative pain was evaluated with a visual analog scale (VAS). RESULTS: The differences between the two groups in coincidence angle (patient group: 7.67°± 5.81°; control group: -2.2°±-2.71°) and patellofemoral joint index (patient group: 2.49 ± 1.40; control group: 1.25 ± 0.15) were statistically significant. Subchondral bone sclerosis and osteophytosis in the patellofemoral joint were more pronounced in the patient group than in the control group. The VAS was higher preoperatively (7.06 ± 0.85) than postoperatively (6 months postoperatively: 3.87 ± 0.24; 1 year postoperatively: 3.01 ± 0.17), and the differences between preoperative and postoperative were statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Apart from the case history, typical symptoms and physical signs, X-ray examination is the most basic way to diagnose excessive lateral pressure syndrome of the patellofemoral joint, and the patellofemoral joint index is the most reliable for diagnosis. Lateral collateral retinaculum release with a small-incision is an effective treatment for this disease.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the post-operative pain level and two years healing of one-visit endodontic treatment for infected root canals. METHODS: 76 infected cases were included in one-visit root canal therapy group and 62 infected cases in two-visit group using calcium hydroxide as an interappointment medicament. A comparison of the clinical results was done between the two groups. The main assessments included pre- and post-operative pain evaluated by patients and dentists, and the healing response after six months, one year and two years. RESULTS: There was no statistical significance between the groups regarding pain 7 days after operation and two years' cure rate. After six months, one year and two years, the cure rates of one-visit group were 68.4%, 92.1%, 98.7%, while those of two-visit group were 64.5%, 91.9%, 96.8%, respectively. CONCLUSION: One-visit endodontic treatment for infected root canals has the same clinical efficacy as two-visit in regarding to post-operative pain level and short-term healing.
