ABSTRACT

Miniature resonant piezoelectric robots have the advantages of compact structure, fast response, high speed, and easy control, which have attracted the interest of many scholars in recent years. However, piezoelectric robots usually suffer from the problem of poor adaptability due to the micron-level amplitude at the feet. Inspired by the fact that earthworms have actuation trajectories all around their bodies to move flexibly under the ground, a miniature piezoelectric robot with circumferentially arranged driving feet to improve adaptability is proposed. Notably, a longitudinal-vibration-compound actuation principle with multilegged collaboration is designed to achieve the actuation trajectories around the robot, similar to the earthworms. The structure and operating principle are simulated by the finite element method, and the prototype is fabricated. The robot weighs 22.7 g and has dimensions of 35.5 × 36.5 × 47 mm3. The robot is tethered to an ultrasonic power supply, and the experimental results show that the speed reaches 179.35 mm s-1  under an exciting signal with a frequency of 58.5 kHz and a voltage of 200 Vp-p. High adaptability is achieved by the proposed robot, it can move on flat, fold, concave, and convex surfaces, and even in an inclined or rotating tube.

ABSTRACT

The impact of variable valence A-sites on the redox property and reactivity of Ln2Ce2O7 compounds in soot particulate combustion has been investigated. It was observed that Yb2Ce2O7, Y2Ce2O7, and Gd2Ce2O7 formed a rare earth C-type phase, while Tb2Ce2O7 formed a solid solution phase. Both Tb2Ce2O7 and Yb2Ce2O7 possess dual valence state A-sites, resulting in significantly more surface vacancies. Additionally, the advantageous solid solution phase structure of Tb2Ce2O7 leads to even more surface vacancies than Yb2Ce2O7, which is crucial to generate active oxygen sites. Moreover, the introduction of NO into the reaction feed enhances combustion activity by producing active surface monodentate nitrates. A catalyst with higher numbers of surface vacancies exhibits improved NO oxidation ability and better NO2 utilization efficiency. Consequently, the Tb2Ce2O7 compound demonstrates not only the best soot combustion activity, but also an optimal NOx-assistance effect. Therefore, it is concluded that variable valence A-site is the intrinsic factor to improve the reactivity of Ln2Ce2O7 catalysts.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The clinical characteristics and mechanisms of stroke caused by anterior circulation atherosclerotic plaques (ACAPs) and posterior circulation atherosclerotic plaques (PCAPs) are distinct. We aimed to compare the differences in vulnerability, morphology, and distribution between ACAPs and PCAPs based on hign-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang database were retrieved from inception through May 2023. Meta-analysis was performed by R 4.2.1 software. The quality of the literature was assessed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Subgroup analysis was conducted to explore the heterogeneity of the pooled results. RESULTS: There were a total of 13 articles, including 1194 ACAPs and 1037 PCAPs. The pooled estimates demonstrated that the incidence of intraplaque hemorrhage in the PCAPs was higher (OR 1.72, 95%CI 1.35-2.18). The plaque length (SMD 0.23, 95%CI 0.06-0.39) and remodeling index (SMD 0.29, 95%CI 0.14-0.44) of PCAPs were larger than those in ACAPs. However, there were no evident differences in significant enhancement or stenosis degree between the two groups. CONCLUSION: There were more unstable features in PCAPs, highlighting an elevated risk of recurrent ischemic stroke in the posterior circulation. Furthermore, PCAPs were prone to developing penetrating artery disease due to their wider distribution. Nevertheless, posterior circulation arteries exhibited a greater propensity for outward remodeling, which may lead treatment team to miss the optimal intervention stage by being overlooked on angiographic detection.

ABSTRACT

The quantity of surface oxygen vacancies/defects is critical to promote the reactivity of metal oxide catalysts. Therefore, for the controlled engineering of Bi2Zr2O7 with rich surface defects for soot combustion, four different methods have been adopted. Bi2Zr2O7 compounds with a defective fluorite phase but with varied surface vacancy concentrations have been successfully synthesized by various methods. The best catalyst (Bi2Zr2O7-CP) was fabricated by a facile co-precipitation method. Both O2- and O22- were the active surface sites whose number positively correlated to the number of surface oxygen vacancies and determined the activity. Moreover, a sample with more surface vacancies usually had weaker Zr-O bonds, which could be the intrinsic factor to enhance the activity. In addition, a novel and simple method has been developed to accurately titrate the absolute amount of soot reactive oxygen sites and calculate the TOF values. In conclusion, by optimizing the preparation methods, Bi2Zr2O7 catalysts with rich surface defects can be tuned, which may help in designing more applicable soot oxidation catalysts.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a neuroendocrine carcinoma originating in the skin. Studies are needed to determine the mechanisms of immune escape in patients with MCC, and malignant cell conditions that promote immune evasion. METHODS: We used Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to determine cellular features associated with MCC disease trajectory. A longitudinal multi-omics study was performed using scRNA-seq data of peripheral blood harvested from four-time points. Six major cell types and fifteen cell subgroups were identified and confirmed their presence by expression of characteristic markers. The expression patterns and specific changes of different cells at different time points were investigated. Subsequently, bulk RNA data was used to validate key findings. RESULTS: The dynamic characteristics of the cells were identified during the critical period between benign improvement and acquisition of resistance. Combined with the results of the validation cohort, the resistance program expressed in the relapse stage is mainly associated with T cell exhaustion and immune cell crosstalk disorder. Coinciding with immune escape, we also identified a decrease non-classical monocytes and an expansion of classical monocytes with features of high inflammation and immune deficiency. CONCLUSION: Changes in cellular status, such as depletion of T cells and dysregulation of B cell proliferation and differentiation, may lead to drug resistance in MCC patients. Meanwhile, the widespread decreased antigen presentation ability and immune disorders caused by deletion of MHC class II gene expression should not be ignored.

ABSTRACT

Miniature robots have been widely studied and applied in the fields of search and rescue, reconnaissance, micromanipulation, and even the interior of the human body benefiting from their highlight features of small size, light weight, and agile movement. With the development of new smart materials, many functional actuating elements have been proposed to construct miniature robots. Compared with other actuating elements, piezoelectric actuating elements have the advantages of compact structure, high power density, fast response, high resolution, and no electromagnetic interference, which make them greatly suitable for actuating miniature robots, and capture the attentions and favor of numerous scholars. In this paper, a comprehensive review of recent developments in miniature piezoelectric robots (MPRs) is provided. The MPRs are classified and summarized in detail from three aspects of operating environment, structure of piezoelectric actuating element, and working principle. In addition, new manufacturing methods and piezoelectric materials in MPRs, as well as the application situations, are sorted out and outlined. Finally, the challenges and future trends of MPRs are evaluated and discussed. It is hoped that this review will be of great assistance for determining appropriate designs and guiding future developments of MPRs, and provide a destination board to the researchers interested in MPRs.

ABSTRACT

Piezoelectric ultrasonic-assisted precision machining (PUAPM) technology is considered to be an efficient and environmentally friendly machining strategy by virtue of cutting force reduction, ductile cutting promotion, tool wear and machining noise reduction. Piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer (PUT) provides ultrasonic energy for PUAPM system, which is the core component to ensure the normal operation of the system. PUTs for PUAPM devices have emerged endlessly in recent decades and have been successfully applied in many fields, such as MEMS, biomedicine, optoelectronics, aerospace, etc. However, there is no comprehensive classification and analysis of the basic configurations, excitation principles, typical structures, performance analyses and control strategies for PUT. This work gives a critical review of research on PUT in recent years, especially the structural optimization, application expansion and ultrasonic energy stabilization in PUAPM. The influence mechanism of excitation mode, modal type, modal combination, horn structure and ceramic arrangement on the optimization of PUT structure is summarized. The improvement effect and mechanism of PUT vibration dimension, amplitude, frequency and structural characteristics on surface roughness, surface texture and cutting force are discussed. In addition, the causes of PUT amplitude fluctuation, and the influence of sensing and control methods on PUT amplitude regulation and system integration are analyzed. This review will help in understanding the current development and diversified applications of PUT and will promote the application of ultrasonic technology in more fields.

ABSTRACT

Multiple degrees of freedom (DOFs) motion manipulation of various objects is a crucial skill for robotic systems, which relies on various robotic hands. However, traditional robotic hands suffer from problems of low manipulation accuracy, poor electromagnetic compatibility and complex system due to limitations in structures, principles and transmissions. Here we present a direct-drive rigid piezo robotic hand (PRH) constructed on functional piezoelectric ceramic. Our PRH holds four piezo fingers and twelve motion DOFs. It achieves high adaptability motion manipulation of ten objects employing pre-planned functionalized hand gestures, manipulating plates to achieve 2L (linear) and 1R (rotary) motions, cylindrical objects to generate 1L and 1R motions and spherical objects to produce 3R motions. It holds promising prospects in constructing multi-DOF ultra-precision manipulation devices, and an integrated system of our PRH is developed to implement several applications. This work provides a new direction to develop robotic hand for multi-DOF motion manipulation from micro scale to macro scale.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the dose-response relationship between pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), so as to provide insights into the cut-off values of pre-pregnancy BMI and optimizing GDM prevention and control strategies. @*Methods@#Pregnant women that admitted to Zhengzhou Central hospital in 2021 were recruited, and demographics, family history, pregnancy and delivery history and blood glucose levels during pregnancy were collected. The dose-response relationship between pre-pregnancy BMI and GDM was analyzed using restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis. The predictive ability of pre-pregnancy BMI for GDM risk was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. @*Results@#A total of 2 279 participants were included in the study. The median age was 29.0 (interquartile range, 5.0) years. The median pre-pregnancy BMI was 21.1 (interquartile range, 3.8) kg/m2. There were 312 underweight women (13.69%), 825 women with low-normal weight (36.20%), 730 women with high-normal weight (32.03%), 345 overweight women (15.14%) and 67 obese women (2.94%).The prevalence of GDM was 17.20%. RCS analysis suggested a linear dose-response relationship between age, pre-pregnancy BMI and GDM (P<0.05). When pre-pregnancy BMI was higher than 21.1 kg/m2, the risk of GDM increased with pre-pregnancy BMI (P<0.05). When women aged over 29.0 years, the risk of GDM increased with age, and the dose-response relationship of GDM caused by pre-pregnancy BMI was stronger in the women aged over 29.0 years than in the women aged 29.0 years and below (P<0.05). The area under curve (AUC) was 0.654 (95%CI: 0.624-0.684). If the cut-off value of pre-pregnancy BMI was 23.0 kg/m2, the Youden index, sensitivity and specificity was 0.238, 0.472 and 0.766, respectively. If it was 24.0 kg/m2, the Youden index, sensitivity and specificity was 0.195, 0.342 and 0.853, respectively. If it was 21.1 kg/m2, the Youden index, sensitivity and specificity was 0.213, 0.676 and 0.537, respectively.@* Conclusions @# There is a linear dose-response relationship between pre-pregnancy BMI and GDM, and higher than 21.1 kg/m2 of the pre-pregnancy BMI could increase the risk of GDM.

ABSTRACT

Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) are widely used as electrode materials for secondary batteries because of their cheapness, ease of synthesis, and unique structural properties. Nevertheless, the unsatisfactory capacity and cyclic stability of PBAs are seriously preventing their practical applications. Here, vanadium hexacyanoferrate (VHCF) is successfully prepared and used as a cathode for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). When using 3 M Zn(CF3SO3)2 as the electrolyte, a high capacity of ~230 mA h g-1 and a high voltage of ~1.2 V can be achieved. The XRD result and XPS analysis indicate that the outstanding Zn2+ storage capability is due to the presence of dual electrochemical redox centers in VHCF (Fe2+ ⇋ Fe3+ and V5+ ⇋ V4+ ⇋ V3+). However, the battery shows a short cycle life (7.1% remaining capacity after 1000 cycles) due to the dissolution of VHCF. To elongate the cycle life of the battery, a high-concentration hybrid electrolyte is used to reduce the activity of water molecules. The improved battery exhibits an impressive capacity of 235.8 mA h g-1 and good capacity retention (92.9%) after 1000 cycles.

ABSTRACT

Background: The aim of our study was to translate and validate the mainland Chinese version of the short health scale (SHS), a disease-specific quality-of-life (QoL) scale for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Methods: The SHS was translated and validated according to the standard process: a translation and back-translation procedure and a reliability and validation study. Patients with IBD were enrolled, and their QoL was assessed using the SHS, the short inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire (SIBDQ), and the Bristol stool form scale. Reliability (internal consistency reliability, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability) and validity analyses were performed to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the SHS. The impacts of different severity of major symptoms on QoL were analyzed by comparing the scores of SHS. Results: A total of 112 patients with IBD (69 with ulcerative colitis and 43 with Crohn's disease) completed the mainland Chinese version of the SHS, and 34 patients completed the SHS a second time within one to two weeks. Cronbach's alpha value of the SHS was 0.90, and its split-half coefficient was 0.83. Intraclass correlation coefficients of the four items ranged from 0.52 to 0.72. All four items of the SHS were significantly associated with the corresponding domains of the SIBDQ, with correlation coefficients ranging from -0.52 to -0.69 (p < 0.001). The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good fit of the one-factor model, with comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.878, normed fit index (NFI) = 0.874, incremental fit index (IFI) = 0.880, and goodness of fit index (GFI) = 0.842. The patients with severe symptoms had higher scores in the SHS than those with no or mild symptoms. Conclusions: The SHS was simple and quick to be used. The SHS had good validity and reliability and was suitable for evaluating the QoL of patients with IBD in mainland China.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has become a global public health problem. The prevalence of IBD in China increased annually in past two decades. METHODS: This study was to translate and validate the rating form of IBD patients' concerns (RFIPC), and to describe disease-related worries and concerns of patients with IBD. The simplified Chinese version of the RFIPC was developed according to translation and back-translation procedure. Patients with IBD were consecutively enrolled from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. The participants were assessed using the RFIPC and the Short Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (SIBDQ). Internal consistency, test-retest reliability, measurement error, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and correlation of the RFIPC with the SIBDQ were performed to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the RFIPC. RESULTS: A total of 116 patients with IBD, 73 with ulcerative colitis (UC) and 43 with Crohn's disease (CD), were enrolled in this study. Thirty-seven of them recompleted the questionnaires for the second time between 7 and 14 days after the first interview. The results of CFA indicated the original structure of the RFIPC was reasonable. Cronbach's alpha value of the RFIPC were 0.97. The intraclass correlation coefficients of four domains ranged from 0.85 to 0.92. The standard error of measurement was 7.10. The correlation coefficients between total score of the RFIPC and the SIBDQ score ranged from - 0.54 to - 0.70. Median total score of the RFIPC was 39.4 (IQR 24.0-59.3). Patients with severe symptoms reported higher scores of the RFIPC. The uncertain nature of disease, having surgery, having an ostomy bag, developing cancer, feeling out of control, being a burden on others and financial difficulties were highest concerns of patients with IBD. Comparing with patients with UC, patients with CD had more concerns of the ability to have children and being treated as different (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The simplified Chinese version of RFIPC is a valid and reliable tool. It could be used for assessing disease-related worries and concerns of patients with IBD in China. Specific concerns of patients with UC and CD are different, therefore, health workers should consider the specific needs of UC and CD patients.

ABSTRACT

Amphibious robots can undertake various tasks in terrestrial and aquatic environments for their superior environmental compatibility. However, the existing amphibious robots usually utilize multi-locomotion systems with transmission mechanisms, leading to complex and bulky structures. Here, a miniature amphibious robot based on vibration-driven locomotion mechanism is developed. The robot has two unique rigid-flexible hybrid modules (RFH-modules), in which a soft foot and a flexible fin are arranged on a rigid leg to conduct vibrations from an eccentric motor to the environment. Then, it can run on ground with the soft foot adopting the friction locomotion mechanism and swim on water with the flexible fin utilizing the vibration-induced flow mechanism. The robot is untethered with a compact size of 75 × 95 × 21 mm3 and a small weight of 35 g owing to no transmission mechanism or joints. It realizes the maximum speed of 815 mm s-1 on ground and 171 mm s-1 on water. The robot, actuated by the RFH-modules based on vibration-driven locomotion mechanism, exhibits the merits of miniature structure and fast movements, indicating its great potential for applications in narrow amphibious environments.

ABSTRACT

Background: The pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC) is closely related to immunity. The immune characteristic differences between active UC (UCa) and inactive UC (UCin) have not been completely explained. Mass cytometry (CyTOF) and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) were used to analyze the immune cells of UCa, UCin and healthy control (HC) subjects to determine the specific immune characteristics. Methods: The immune cell subsets among UCa, UCin, HC were distinguished using CyTOF analysis. scRNA-seq analysis was used to validate the results of CyTOF. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses were performed to understand the roles of differential immune cell subsets. Results: After CyTOF analysis and validation of scRNA-seq analysis, differential immune cell subsets mainly contained TNF+IL-17A++ effector memory (EM) Tregs, CXCR3+CTLA4+ EM Tregs, CXCR3++CCR7+ B cells, HLA-DR+CCR7+ dendritic cells (DCs) and CTLA-4+ natural killer (NK) cells. In comparison to HC, CCR6+TNF+CD161+ EM T cells were highly enriched in UCa and UCin. Besides, UCa was characterized by an increase in CD38+TNF+ EM Tregs, CXCR3+CCR4+ naïve B cells, HLA-DR+CD14+IL21+ macrophages/monocytes, HLA-DR+CCR7+ DCs, AHR+CD14+ cytotoxic NK (cNK) cells and CD8A+IFNG+ cNK cells. Decreases in CD38+CD27+ plasmablasts, CXCR3+CD38+ regulatory NK cells, and CXCR3+CCR7+ tolerant NK cells in UCa were discovered. Conclusions: Novel immune cell subsets which was used to distinguish UCa, UCin and HC were identified. This information might be utilized to distinguish the patients with UCa and UCin.

ABSTRACT

Nanoscale zero-valent iron particles (NZVI) are widely used in a variety of industries owing to their advantageous mechanical, physical, and chemical properties. These particles can be released into environmental media, including water, soil, and air, through several pathways. NZVI in the ecosystem can be taken up, excreted and distributed within organisms, which is harmful to plants, animals and humans. Plants play a significant role as producers in the ecological circle and can both positively and negatively affect the ecological behavior of NZVI. Therefore, understanding the relationship between plants and NZVI is likely to be of great value for the assessment of NZVI-associated risks and future research directions. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge on the uptake, distribution, and accumulation of NZVI in plants; the phytotoxicity triggered by NZVI exposure at the physiological, biochemical, and molecular levels; and the defense mechanism used by plants to defend against NZVI-induced insults. We further discuss the toxic effects of NZVI on soil animals and microorganisms as well as the risk posed by the presence of NZVI in the food chain.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an acquired autoimmune disease with high heterogeneity. The disease is chronic, relapsing repeatedly and progressive with acute exacerbation occasionally. Although the treatment of MG has developed, it is still unsatisfactory and has some unexpected side effects. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has shown great potential in MG treatment, including relief of muscle weakness syndrome, improvement of patient's quality of life, and reduction of side effects of western medicine. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of modified Buzhong Yiqi decoction (MBYD) as an add-on therapy for MG through a small series of N-of-1 trials. METHODS: Single-centre, randomized, double-blind, 3 crossover N-of-1 trials will be conducted to enroll patients with MG diagnosed as spleen-stomach deficiency syndrome or spleen-kidney deficiency syndrome in TCM. Each N-of-1 trial has 3 cycles of two 4-week periods containing the MBYD period and placebo period. The wash-out interval of 1 week is prior to switching each period. PRIMARY OUTCOME: quantitative myasthenia gravis (QMG). SECONDARY OUTCOMES: the following scales: myasthenia gravis composite (MGC), myasthenia gravis activities of daily living profile (MG-ADL), myasthenia gravis quality of life (MG-QOL); the level of CD4+FoxP3+Treg cells and cytokines (IL-4, IL-17A, INF-γ, TGF-ß) in the peripheral blood; the alterations of the composition of gut microbiota; reduction of the side effects of western medicine. DISCUSSION: Used by WinBUGS software, we will conduct a hierarchical Bayesian statistical method to analyze the efficacy of MBYD in treating MG in individuals and populations. Some confounding variables such as TCM syndrome type and potential carryover effect of TCM will be introduced into the hierarchical Bayesian statistical method to improve the sensitivity and applicability of the trials, and the use of prior available information within the analysis may improve the sensitivity of the results of a series of N-of-1 trials, from both the individual and population level to study the efficacy of TCM syndrome differentiation. We assumed that this study would reveal that MBYD is effective for MG and provide robust evidence of the efficacy of TCM to treat MG. ABSTRACT

Enhancing the built-in electric field to promote charge dynamitic process is of great significance to boost the performance of the non-fullerene organic solar cells (OSCs), which has rarely been concerned. In this work, we introduced a cheap ferroelectric polymer as an additive into the active layers of non-fullerene OSCs to improve the device performance. An additional and permanent electrical field was produced by the polarization of the ferroelectric dipoles, which can substantially enhance the built-in electric field. The promoted exciton separation, significantly accelerated charge transport, reduced the charge recombination, as well as the optimized film morphology were observed in the device, leading to a significantly improved performance of the PVDF-modified OSCs with various active layers, such as PM6 : Y6, PM6 : BTP-eC9, PM6 : IT-4F and PTB7-Th : Y6. Especially, a record efficiency of 17.72 % for PM6 : Y6-based OSC and an outstanding efficiency of 18.17 % for PM6 : BTP-eC9-based OSC were achieved.

ABSTRACT

Forming cysts is a common and important bionomic strategy for microorganisms to persist in harsh environments. In ciliated protists, many species have been reported to form cysts when facing unfavorable conditions. Despite traditional studies on the morphological features of cysts and the chemical composition of cyst wall, recent research has focused more on the molecular mechanisms of encystment. The present work reviews studies on developmental features and molecular information of resting cysts in ciliates, and pays more attention to the following questions: what are the inducing factors of encystment and excystment? How does the cell change morphologically during these dynamic processes? And what molecular mechanisms underlie those changes? We also present and summarize the characteristics of cysts from diverse ciliate lineages in a phylogenetic framework, aiming to provide new perspectives for studies on adaptive evolution of unicellular eukaryotes.

ABSTRACT

With the target of developing efficient base metal oxide catalysts for soot particulate combustion, Nb2O5 catalysts promoted using different alkali metal nitrates have been prepared via an impregnation method. The activity of all the modified catalysts is better than that of the pure Nb2O5, and follows the sequence of CsNb1-9 > KNb1-9 > NaNb1-9 > LiNb1-9 > Nb2O5. It has been discovered that the original LiNO3 and NaNO3 precursors were decomposed into inert Li2O and Na2O on LiNb1-9 and NaNb1-9 during the calcination process. However, the KNO3 and CsNO3 precursors were intact on KNb1-9 and CsNb1-9 due to the strong stabilization effect of the K+ and Cs+ cations. As confirmed using different means, surface nitrates are the predominant active centers that contribute to the soot oxidation activity, through the redox cycles between nitrate (NO3-) and nitrite (NO2-) groups. Due to the existence of a large quantity of active surface NO3- groups, KNb1-9 and CsNb1-9 thus exhibit a much better reaction performance than LiNb1-9 and NaNb1-9.

ABSTRACT

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are promising candidates for large-scale energy storage because of their low cost and high safety. However, their practical applications are impeded by low energy density and short service life. Here, an aqueous Zn2+/Li+ hybrid-ion battery is fabricated using the LiV3O8 nanorods as the cathode, metallic Zn as the anode, and 3 M Zn(OTf)2 + 0.5 M LiOTf aqueous solution as the electrolyte. Compared with the batteries using pure 3 M Zn(OTf)2 electrolyte, the cycle performance of the hybrid-ion battery is significantly improved. After 4000 cycles at 5 A g1, the remaining capacity is 163.9 mA h g-1 with impressive capacity retention of 87.0%. Ex-situ XRD, ex-situ XPS, and SEM tests demonstrate that the hybrid electrolyte can inhibit the formation of the irreversible Zn3(OH)2V2O7·2H2O by-product and restrict Zn dendrite growth during cycling, thereby improving the cycle performance of the batteries.
