ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The psychological state of patients with post stroke limb movement disorders undergoes a series of changes that affect rehabilitation training and recovery of limb motor function. AIM: To determine the correlation between motor rehabilitation and the psychological state of patients with limb movement disorders after stroke. METHODS: Eighty patients with upper and lower limb dysfunction post stroke were retrospectively enrolled in our study. Based on Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores measured before rehabilitation, patients with HADS scores ≥ 8 were divided into the psychological group; otherwise, the patients were included in the normal group. Motor function and daily living abilities were compared between the normal and psychological groups. Correlations between the motor function and psychological status of patients, and between daily living ability and psychological status of patients were analyzed. RESULTS: After 1, 2, and 3 wk of rehabilitation, both the Fugl-Meyer assessment and Barthel index scores improved compared to their respective baseline scores (P < 0.05). A greater degree of improvement was observed in the normal group compared to the psychological group (P < 0.05). There was a negative correlation between negative emotions and limb rehabilitation (-0.592 ≤ r ≤ -0.233, P < 0.05), and between negative emotions and daily living ability (-0.395 ≤ r ≤ -0.199, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: There is a strong correlation between motor rehabilitation and the psychological state of patients with post stroke limb movement disorders. The higher the negative emotions, the worse the rehabilitation effect.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the efficacy and safety of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) therapy in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI) based on the meta-analysis. METHODS: Eligible published randomized controlled clinical research (RCT) were retrieved in the Pubmed, EMBase, Cochrane, China biological medical literature, Wanfang, VIP and CNKI database from 1980 to April 2, 2012. The analysis was performed with the software of RevMan 5.1. RESULTS: Thirteen RCTs with 1958 patients (AMI with IABP therapy, n = 970,without IABP therapy, n = 988) were included. The 30-day mortality between the two groups was similar (RR = 0.77, 95%CI 0.58-1.03, P = 0.08), but the 30-day mortality in the cardiac shock subgroup was significantly lower in IABP group than in without IABP group (RR = 0.65, 95%CI 0.44-0.97, P = 0.04). The 6-month mortality was significantly lower in IABP group than in without IABP group (RR = 0.72, 95%CI 0.55-0.94, P = 0.02). The incidence of major bleeding was significantly higher in IABP group than in without IABP group (RR = 1.43, 95%CI 1.16-1.75, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: IABP therapy is effective to reduce earlier mortality post AMI, particularly for patients with cardiac shock.

ABSTRACT

A family with Angle's Class ii malocclusion was identified in West China Stomatological Hospital of Sichuan University. The proband was a 22-year-old woman with Angle's Class II Division 2 malocclusion with congenitally missing teeth. A total of 15 members of the 3 generations in the family were investigated. There were 7 members (3 males, 4 females) with Angle's Class II malocclusion in the family. The results provide the primary basis for further study to localize the virulence gene.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To assess the outcome of orthodontic treatment for adolescents with congenital missing teeth using the PAR (Peer Assessment Ration) index. METHODS: The PAR index was adopted to evaluate and compare the teeth arrangement, molar occlusion, overjet, overbite and centerline condition of 20 adolescents with congenital missing teeth before and after orthodontic treatments. RESULTS: The initial PAR scores and weighted PAR total scores decreased significantly after Orthodontic treatments (P < 0.01), except for the centerline. The PAR total scores decreased by 14.25 +/- 7.91 (80.90% +/- 11.09%). The weighted PAR total scores decreased by 15.45 +/- 8.16 (75.34% +/- 18.41%). CONCLUSION: PAR index can well reflect the improvement of occlusion characters by orthodontic treatment for adolescents with congenital missing teeth. But further improvement is needed for clinical application.
