ABSTRACT

Determining suitable irrigation technology is of paramount for promoting water-saving agriculture, particularly for winter wheat-summer maize rotation system in well-irrigated regions. To optimize and assess the efficacy of various irrigation technologies (specifically, semi-fixed sprinkler irrigation, walking sprinkler, semi-automatic buried telescopic sprinkler irrigation, thin-soft spray tape irrigation, drip irrigation, self-driven winch sprinkler and manually moving spray gun irrigation, marked as A, B, C, D, E, F and G) applied in south central North China Plain, we first conducted an economic analysis for the winter wheat-summer maize rotation. Subsequently, employing a comprehensive set of 20 indicators spanning economic, societal, technological, ecological, and resource aspects, we employed a TOPSIS model with integrative weighting approach using "AHP + Entropy". We also employed principal component analysis and the Sankey diagram method to explore characteristics of different irrigation techniques and indexes. Irrigation mode E, conserving energy by 63.19% compared to mode B and offering labor savings five times greater than the mode D. The highest economic benefit for the rotation system was observed with the mode C, resulting in a 25.26% increase compared to the mode G. The top three irrigation modes based on scores were D, G, and E, with scores of 0.532, 0.490, and 0.474, respectively. The Sankey diagram revealed distinct preferences among different agricultural entities for specific irrigation modes. For specific stakeholders, we recommend irrigation modes D, G, F, and B for small farmers, large and specialized family businesses, family farms, and farmer cooperatives, respectively. In conclusion, our findings provide valuable scientific support and recommendations for the practical application of irrigation technology in agricultural production.

ABSTRACT

Objective: C-reactive protein to lymphocyte ratio (CLR) has been identified as a novel inflammatory biomarker. However, the role of CLR in myocardial infarction is unclear. Thus, this study designs to investigate the association of CLR with the prevalence of myocardial infarction in a large multiracial population in the United States. Methods: Participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-March 2020 Pre-pandemic were included in this cross-sectional study. Multivariable regression and subgroup analyses, controlling for demographic variables, were performed to examine the association between CLR and its quintiles and myocardial infarction. A smooth curve fitting was used to model the non-linear relationship between them. Results: A total of 12,615 participants aged ≥18 years were recruited, of whom 609 (4.83%) self-reported a history of myocardial infarction. Compared to those in the lowest quartile of ln-transformed CLR (Q1), the myocardial infarction risks for subjects in Q2, Q3, and Q4 were 1.64, 1.71, and 1.79 times, respectively. Obvious upward trends were observed when ln-transformed CLR increased (P for trend <0.01). In continuous analyses, the fully adjusted odds ratios (OR) for myocardial infarction prevalence per ln-transformed increment in CLR was 1.46 (95% CI: 1.16-1.84, P < 0.01). Furthermore, a linear association was detected for ln-transformed CLR with the risk of myocardial infarction. Interaction test showed that the effect of CLR on myocardial infarction was significantly affected by age (P for interaction = 0.04). Conclusions: Data from a large, cross-sectional cohort program show that CLR is positively associated with myocardial infarction prevalence. Our findings highlight that CLR may be a novel inflammation warning biomarker for myocardial infarction.

ABSTRACT

Herein, we report a novel iodine(III)-mediated intramolecular dearomative spirocyclization of indole derivatives to generate highly strained spirocyclobutyl, spirocyclopentyl, and spirocyclohexyl indolenines in moderate to good yields. A set of structurally novel, densely functionalized spiroindolenines with broad functional group compatibility was efficiently constructed in this way under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, the ß-enamine ester as a versatile functional group in the product provides great convenience for the synthesis of bioactive compounds and related natural products.

Introduction: Current guidelines recommended patent foramen ovale (PFO) occlusion as the preferred treatment for PFO-related cryptogenic stroke (CS); however, finding the causative foramen ovale remains challenging. This study aimed to identify predictors and establish a scoring system by assessing PFO morphology and stroke-related factors. Methods: Based on a prospective multicenter registered clinical trial, we compared data mainly derived from transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and clinical history in patients with PFO-related CS and those without CS (non-CS) with incidental PFO. Subsequently, we explored independent predictors using logistic analysis, established a scoring system based on the results, and finally evaluated the scoring system using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and internal validation. Results: 75 patients with PFO-related CS and 147 non-CS patients were enrolled. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that the change in PFO height, large PFO, atrial septal aneurysm (ASA), and sustained right-to-left shunt (RLS) had independent relationships with CS. Based on the odds ratio value of each independent factor, a scoring system was built: change in PFO height ≥ 1.85 mm (3 points), large PFO (2 points), ASA (5 points), sustained RLS (2 points). 0-2 points correspond to low-risk PFO, 3-5 points medium-risk PFO, and 7-12 points high-risk PFO. ROC analysis showed an area under the curve of 0.80 to predict CS. The proportion of patients with CS is increasing based on these points. Conclusions: Our study screened out the change in PFO height as an independent predictor of CS. A simple and convenient scoring system can provide constructive guidance for identifying whether the PFO is causal and consequently selecting patients more likely to benefit from closure.

ABSTRACT

Background: More than 90% of thromboses originate from the left atrial appendage (LAA) in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the safety and efficacy of LAA closure with the Leftear device (Pulse Scientific) in NVAF patients. Methods: A prospective, multicenter, registry-based study was conducted in 200 NVAF patients with CHA2DS2-VASc (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age, diabetes, previous stroke/transient ischemic attack, vascular disease, female sex) scores ≥2. The primary safety endpoint was defined as any serious adverse events. Efficacy was assessed by a primary composite endpoint of hemorrhagic or ischemic stroke, systemic embolism, and cardiac or unexplained death at 1 year of follow-up. Results: The device was implanted in 196 patients, with 1-stop LAA closure combined with atrial fibrillation ablation implemented in 133 patients. The immediate success rate was 100%. There were serious adverse events in 9 patients (4.5%; 95% CI: 1.6%-7.4%), which mainly occurred in 1-stop LAA closure. All pericardial tamponades occurred in 6 patients with 1-stop LAA closure. No patient experienced a major bleeding event or acute device-related thrombus. During the 12-month follow-up period, the risk of the primary composite endpoint was 1.6% (95% CI: 0.3%-4.5%), and statistical noninferiority was achieved (the upper bound of 95% CI: 4.5% < the prespecified maximum annual incidence of 8.0%). Ischemic stroke occurred in 1 patient, 3 patients had incomplete LAA sealing, and no delayed device-related thrombus was found. Conclusions: LAA closure with the novel disc-like occluder shows high procedural success, satisfactory safety, and encouraging efficacy for stroke prevention in patients with NVAF. Compared with 1-stop LAA closure, single LAA closure may be more tolerable. ABSTRACT

Objective: Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), derived from blood cell counts of circulating platelets, neutrophils, and lymphocytes, has been identified as a novel inflammatory and prognostic marker. However, the clinical value of SII in patients with arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) had not been further explored. Thus, this study is designed to explore the associations of SII with mortality in ASCVD individuals. Methods: All individuals with ASCVD aged ≥20 years were included from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2005-2014 and followed for survival until 31 December 2019. Multivariable Cox analysis investigated the associations between SII, evaluated as a continuous variable with splines, as categorical ones (quartiles), and the all-cause death. To demonstrate the association between SII and mortality, subgroup analysis, restricted cubic spline along with piecewise linear regression were also conducted. Results: A total of 2,595 participants (57.8% men) were included. During a median of 7.7 years of follow-up, 1,122 deaths due to all-cause were recorded. After adjusting for multiple confounders, when compared with the patients in quartile 1 (SII ln transform), those in quartile 4 had a 46% increased risk for all-cause death [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.46, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.22-1.75]. As a continuous variable, each unit of raised ln-SII was associated with a 24% increased risk of all-cause death (HR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.10-1.38). In the restricted cubic spline regression model, the relationship between ln-SII and all-cause death was non-linear. The cutoff value of ln-SII for mortality was 6.57 and those with a higher than the threshold point had a 1.25-fold risk of mortality. No significant difference was noted below the threshold points. Conclusion: An association was detected between the baseline ln-SII and all-cause mortality in a United States ASCVD population. Increased SII is associated with poor survival in individuals with ASCVD.

Background: Although the implant success rate of left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) has increased and complications have decreased over time, there are still anatomically and technically complicated cases where novel LAA occluders may simplify the procedure and thus might potentially improve the clinical outcome. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of the newly designed device with isogenous barbs in LAAC. Methods: Eight centers in China participated in this prospective study from July 2016 to April 2018. Peri- and post-procedural safety and efficacy were evaluated through scheduled follow-ups and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Results: A total of 175 patients with a mean age of 68.4 ± 9.2 years old, a mean CHA2DS2-VASc score of 4.7 ± 1.8, and a mean HAS-BLED score of 3.2 ± 1.3, were included. The device was successfully implanted in 173 patients (98.9%). The device size ranged from 18 to 34 mm. Clinically relevant pericardial effusion (PEF) in the perioperative period, occurred in 3 patients (1.7%). TEE follow-up was available in 167 (96.5%) patients at 12-month. During follow-up, 9 patients suffered serious adverse event: 4 death (2.3%), 1 ischemic stroke (0.6%), and 2 gastro-intestinal bleeding (1.2%) and 2 device-related thrombus (DRT) (1.2%). Estimated annual thromboembolism rate reduced by 90% and estimated annual major bleeding rate reduced by 81% after LAAC with the newly designed device. Conclusion: The newly designed device with isogenous barbs for LAAC could be performed effectively with a low incidence of adverse events and a high incidence of anatomic closure.

Objective: The Amplatzer patent foramen ovale (PFO) occluder is the most commonly used device for percutaneous closure of a large PFO. However, its use may predispose the patient to postoperative residual shunting. To reduce the incidence of residual shunting, we investigated the safety and effectiveness of the Amplatzer atrial septal defect (ASD) occluder for percutaneous closure of a large PFO measured by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and evaluated the value of TEE in this procedure. Methods: Overall, 118 patients who were diagnosed with a large PFO (all with a ≥ 2 mm left atrial side height after the Valsalva maneuver (VM) excluding those with a small ASD) using contrast transthoracic echocardiography (c-TTE) and TEE underwent closure under TEE guidance at The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University. An ASD device was used in 48 patients (group I) and a PFO device in 70 (group II). After the procedure, we verified the safety and efficacy of different devices using c-TTE, TTE, and TEE. Results: In both groups, the preoperative TEE results showed a significantly increased left height of the PFO after VM compared with that at rest (all P < 0.01). Compared with the left height of the PFO measured using TEE after VM, the PFO-stretch diameter (SD) measured by TEE after the delivery sheath passed the PFO was higher (all P < 0.01). We selected the ASD occluder size according to this PFO-SD. In group II, most patients underwent the implantation of the larger PFO devices. Interventional treatment was successfully performed on all patients. The effective occlusion rate in group I at 12 months after the procedure was significantly higher than that in group II (93.7% vs. 78.6%, P < 0.05). The TEE results showed that 18 patients with a medium and large residual shunt at 12 months after the procedure exhibited an intradisc tunnel-like shunt. Conclusion: The Amplatzer ASD device and Amplatzer PFO device are safe for large PFO closure, but the Amplatzer ASD device has a higher effective occlusion rate. TEE plays a crucial role in the use of the Amplatzer ASD occluder for percutaneous closure of a large PFO.

ABSTRACT

Antibiotic contamination from animal production and wastewater treatment process will release antibiotic resistant genes to the environment and potentially threaten human health. Meanwhile, the residual antibiotic in manure could have inactive impacts on anaerobic digestion (AD). This study explores the effect of sulfamethazine on manure AD mediated by biochar. The results show that biochar weakens the adverse effects of sulfamethazine on AD by adsorption sulfamethazine during the initial stage (0-3 days) of AD and promoting the growth of hydrolytic bacteria (especially Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes) and methanogens (especially Methanothrix and Methanosarcina). Besides, the presence of biochar improves the biogas production capacity of AD and promotes microbial diversity and community richness. Thus, the addition of biochar greatly reduces sulfamethazine and is testified to be a desirable strategy to mitigate the inhibition of sulfamethazine on AD.

ABSTRACT

Background: We describe a rare case of patent foramen ovale (PFO) associated stroke in a patient with pulmonary embolism, inferior vena cava thrombosis and undergoing filter implantation who successfully underwent PFO closure using the right internal jugular venous approach. Case Summary: This is a rare case of a 42-year-old patient who presented with stroke and pulmonary embolism and was diagnosed with a PFO, inferior vena cava thrombosis and underwent filter implantation. The patient suffered from stroke and pulmonary embolism successively; that is, embolic events occurred in both the arterial and venous systems. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) showed a PFO with an atrial septal aneurysm (ASA), which we considered a "pathological" PFO. Due to the obstructive nature of the inferior vena cava approach, we successfully performed PFO closure via the right internal jugular venous approach under the guidance of X-ray and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Discussion: The right jugular venous approach provides a simple technical solution for patients who require PFO closure when femoral venous access is unavailable, which can be performed under X-ray and TTE guidance.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The risk of arrhythmia increases in diabetic patients. However, the effects of hyperglycemia and insulin therapy on the electrophysiological properties of human cardiomyocytes remain unclear. This study is to explore the effects of high glucose and insulin on the electrophysiological properties and arrhythmias of cardiomyocytes derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC-CMs). METHODS: Immunofluorescent staining and flow cytometry were used to analyze the purity of hiPSC-CMs generated from human skin fibroblasts of a healthy donor. The hiPSC-CMs were divided into 3 group (treated with normal medium, high glucose and insulin for 4 days): a control group (NM group, containing 5 mmol/L glucose), a high glucose group (HG group, containing 15 mmol/L glucose), and a high glucose combined with insulin (HG+INS group, containing 15 mmol/L glucose+100 mg/L insulin). Electrophysiological changes of hiPSC-CMs were detected by microelectrode array (MEA) before or after treatment with glucose and insulin, including beating rate (BR), field potential duration (FPD) (similar to QT interval in ECG), FPDc (FPD corrected by BR), spike amplitude and conduction velocity (CV). Effects of sotalol on electrophysiological properties and arrhythmias of hiPSC-CMs were also evaluated. RESULTS: The expression of cardiac-specific marker of cardiac troponin T was high in the hiPSC-CMs. The purity of hiPSC-CMs was 99.06%. Compared with the NM group, BR was increased by (9.14±0.8)% in the HG group (P<0.01). After treatment with high glucose, FPD was prolonged from (460.4±9.0) ms to (587.6±23.7) ms in the HG group, while it was prolonged from (462.5±14.5) ms to (512.6±17.6) ms in the NM group. Compared with the NM group, FPD of hiPSC-CMs was prolonged by (16.8±1.4)% in the HG group (P<0.01). The FPDc of hiPSC-CMs was prolonged from (389.1±13.7) ms to (478.3±31.5) ms in the HG group, and that was prolonged from (387.7±21.6) ms to (422.6±32.9) ms in the NM group. Compared with the NM group, the FPDc of hiPSC-CMs was prolonged by (13.9±1.3)% in HG group (P<0.01). The spike amplitude and CV remained unchanged between the HG group and the NM group (P>0.05). Ten µmol/L of sotalol can induce significant arrhythmias from all wells in the HG group. After treatment with insulin and high glucose, compared with the HG group, BR was increased by (8.3±0.5)% in the HG+INS group (P<0.05). The FPD was prolonged from (463.4±9.7) ms to (532.6±12.8) ms in the HG+INS group, while it was prolonged from (460.4±9.0) ms to (587.6±23.7) ms in the HG group. Compared with the HG group, the FPD of hiPSC-CMs was shortened by (12.7±1.9)% in the HG+INS group (P<0.01). The FPDc of hiPSC-CMs was prolonged from (387.4±4.1) ms to (422.4±10.0) ms in the HG+INS group, and that was prolonged from (384.8±4.0) ms to (476.3±11.5) ms in HG group. Compared with the HG group, the FPDc of hiPSC-CMs was shortened by (14.7±1.1)% in HG group (P<0.01). After the insulin treatment, the spike amplitude of hiPSC-CMs was increased from (3.12±0.46) mV to (4.35±0.64) mV in the HG+INS group, while it was enhanced from (3.06±0.35) mV to (3.33±0.41) mV in the HG group. The spike amplitude of hiPSC-CMs was increased by (30.8±3.7)% in the HG+INS group compared with that in the HG group (P<0.05). The CV in the HG+INS group was increased from (0.23±0.08) mm/ms to (0.32±0.08) mm/ms after insulin treatment, which was increased from (0.21±0.04) mm/ms to (0.30±0.07) mm/ms in the HG group, but there was no significant difference in CV between the HG+INS group and the HG group (P>0.05). The induction experiment showed that 10 µmol/L of sotalol could prolong the FPDc of hiPSC-CMs by (78.9±11.6)% in the HG+INS group, but no arrhythmia was induced in each well. CONCLUSIONS: High glucose can induce FPD/FPDc of hiPSC-CMs prolongation and increase the risk of arrhythmia induced by drugs. Insulin can reduce the FPD/FPDc prolongation and the risk of induced arrhythmia by high glucose.These results are important to understand the electrophysiological changes of the myocardium in diabetic patients and the impact of insulin therapy on its electrophysiology. Further study on the mechanism may provide new ideas and methods for the treatment of acquired and even inherited long QT syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Importance: Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) has emerged as an alternative to anticoagulation for patients with atrial fibrillation. However, the performance of LAAO among East Asian patients is unknown. Objective: To document the procedural success rate and configurations, major adverse event rates, and antithrombotic medication regimens during and after LAAO procedures among patients in China. Design, Setting, and Participants: In this cohort study, consecutive patients from 39 Chinese centers undergoing LAAO were prospectively enrolled between April 1, 2019, and October 31, 2020. Periprocedural and intraprocedural techniques and postprocedural medications were left to the surgeon's discretion. Data were analyzed from July 1 to November 1, 2021. Exposure: LAAO for patients with atrial fibrillation. Main Outcomes and Measures: The main outcomes were procedural success and complication rates periprocedure and major adverse event rates of death, stroke, systemic embolism, and bleeding events at 30 days postprocedure; the composite end point of death, stroke, and systemic embolism was also analyzed. Unadjusted and multivariable-adjusted logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the associations of periprocedural techniques (types of anesthesia, intraprocedural imaging modalities, and combined ablation procedure) with 30-day adverse events. Results: Among 3096 enrolled participants, 1782 participants (57.6%) were men, and the mean (SD) age was 69 (9) years. Participants had a high risk of stroke (mean [SD] cardiovascular risk score, 4.0 [1.8]) and a moderate-to-high risk of bleeding (mean [SD] bleeding risk score, 2.4 [1.2]). A total of 1287 procedures (41.6%) were performed under local anesthesia, while 493 procedures (15.9%) used only fluoroscopy guidance. In 1297 procedures (41.9%), LAAO implantation was combined with radiofrequency ablation or cryoablation for atrial fibrillation. Procedural success was achieved in 3032 patients (97.9%). At 30-day follow-up, the rate of the composite end point of death, stroke, or systemic embolism was 0.52% (95% CI, 0.32%-0.84%), and the rate of any life-threatening or major bleeding was 1.23% (95% CI, 0.90%-1.68%). No significant associations were observed between the procedural success or 30-day adverse events and the types of anesthesia (general or local), intraprocedural imaging (transesophageal echocardiography, fluoroscopy, or intracardiac echocardiography), or whether a combined ablation procedure was performed or not. In centers performing at least 40 procedures per year, compared with those performing fewer than 40 procedures per year, procedural success was significantly higher (adjusted odd ratio [aOR], 1.97; 95% CI, 1.01-3.53; P = .02) and risk of life-threatening or major bleeding was significantly lower (aOR, 0.42; 95% CI, 0.21-0.87; P = .02). Conclusions and Relevance: These findings suggest that patients with a high risk of stroke and moderate to high risk of bleeding who underwent implantation of a LAAO device in Chinese centers had high rates of procedural success and low rates of short-term ischemic and bleeding events.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is highly prevalent in patients with mitral stenosis (MS), but the efficacy of left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) in these patients remains unclear.The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of LAAO in patients with MS complicated by AF at high risk of bleeding.We recruited patients from September 2015 to September 2018. We compared the 3-year outcomes of LAAO in 21 patients with AF complicated by MS and 42 sex- and age-matched patients with AF without MS.The MS group had more cases of peripheral arterial embolism (28.6% versus 2.4%, P = 0.004), more spontaneous echo contrast (47.6% versus 9.5%, P = 0.001), a larger LAA orifice diameter (P < 0.01), and a slower LAA flow (P < 0.05) than the Non-MS group. The mean size of the selected occluder device was bigger for patients with MS than for patients with Non-MS (29.2 ± 3.7 versus 26.9 ± 3.1 mm, P = 0.014). In the first 45 follow-up days, 2 (9.5%) patients with MS had device-related thrombi (DRT); one of them had transient ischemic attack 24 hours postoperatively. From 45 days to 6 months, one patient in each group had DRT. After 6 months, two patients in the Non-MS group still had residual leaks; one of them had a stroke, with a small DRT. The proportion of dual antiplatelet therapy was higher in the Non-MS group than in the MS group (33.3% versus 4.8%, P = 0.012), but this population had an increased bleeding risk.LAAO is relatively effective and safe for preventing embolic events in patients with MS complicated by AF, at high risk of bleeding.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Traditional metal alloy occluders for the closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) may be associated with some potential complications, and may restrict the trans-septal access to the left atrium for future treatment of left-sided heart disease. Increasing attention has been paid to novel biodegradable occluders (NBOs) to achieve PFO closure. We aimed to evaluate the role of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the diagnostic and anatomical evaluation of PFO, as well as in the Post-procedural assessment after transcatheter closure with a NBO. Methods: We conducted a prospective, single-center clinical study of 44 patients who were diagnosed with PFO by contrast transthoracic echocardiography (c-TTE) and TEE from June 2019 to June 2020. All patients underwent PFO occlusion with NBO under TTE guidance. Follow-up was performed at 2 days and 3 months after the procedure with TTE, and at 6 months and 1 year after the procedure with c-TTE, TTE, and TEE. Results: Interventional treatment was successfully performed in all patients. The left and right sides of the occluder device disc were significantly reduced at 3, 6, and 12 months compared to 2 days after the procedure (all P < 0.01), and decreased gradually. The thickness was significantly reduced at 12 months compared to the first three time points (all P < 0.01). Thrombus was found on the surface of the occluder device in three patients (6.4%) at 3 and 6 months after occlusion. At 6 months after procedure, there were 3 (6.8%) cases of extensive residual right-to-left shunt (RLS), 2 (4.5%) cases of moderate shunt, and 7 (15.9%) cases of small shunts. One year after procedure, 2 (4.5%) cases had a extensive residual shunt, 6 (13.6%) cases of small shunts were confirmed to originate from pulmonary veins by TEE, and the PFO-RLS occlusion rate reached 95.5%. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of NBO for the closure of PFO in humans, with a high rate of complete shunt closure. Accurate TEE assessment of the PFO anatomy before closure with NBO is important to ensure that the procedure remains safe and effective. Furthermore, TEE plays a crucial role in the Post-procedure follow-up.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is one of the key factors for the DNA replication process and DNA damage repair. Most proteins interacting with PCNA have a common binding motif: PCNA interacting protein box (PIP box). However, some proteins with non-canonical PIP-box have also been reported to be the key factors that interacted with PCNA. RESULTS: Here we discovered the C terminal of a chromatin-remodeling factor CHR721 with non-canonical PIP-box was essential for interacting with OsPCNA in rice. Both OsPCNA and CHR721 were localized in the nuclei and function in response to DNA damages. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results and previous work, we proposed a working model that CHR721 with non-canonical PIP-box interacted with OsPCNA and both of them probably participate in the DNA damage repair process.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) represents the most common complication following pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). Predictive models are needed to select patients with a high risk of POPF. This study was aimed to establish an effective predictive nomogram for POPF following PD. METHODS: Consecutive patients who had undergone PD between January 2016 and May 2020 at a single institution were analysed retrospectively. A predictive nomogram was established based on a training cohort, and Lasso regression and multivariable logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate predictors. The predictive abilities of the predicting model were assessed for internal validation by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and calibration plot using bootstrap resampling. The performance of the nomogram was compared with that of the currently used a-FRS model. RESULTS: A total of 459 patients were divided into a training cohort (n = 302) and a validation cohort (n = 157). No significant difference was observed between the two groups with respect to clinicopathological characteristics. The POPF rate was 16.56%. The risk factors of POPF POPF were albumin difference, drain amylase value on postoperative day 1, pancreas texture, and BMI, which were all selected into a nomogram. Nomogram application revealed good discrimination (AUC = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.81-0.94, P <  0.001) as well as calibration abilities in the validation cohort. The predictive value of the nomogram was better than that of the a-FRS model (AUC: 0.87 vs 0.62, P <  0.001). CONCLUSIONS: This predictive nomogram could be used to evaluate the individual risk of POPF in patients following PD, and albumin difference is a new, accessible predictor of POPF after PD. ABSTRACT

A highly efficient and practical Pd(II)/Cu(OAc)2-catalyst system of Saegusa oxidation, which converts enol ethers to the corresponding enals with a number of diverse substrates at extremely low catalyst loadings (500 mol ppm) under ligand-free and aqueous conditions, is described. Its synthetic utility was demonstrated by large-scale applications of the catalyst system to important nature molecules. This work allows Saegusa oxidation to become a highly practical approach to preparing enals and also suggests new insight into the Pd(II)/Cu(II)-catalyst system for dehydrogenation of carbonyl compounds and decreasing Pd-catalyst loadings.
