ABSTRACT

The asymmetrical distribution of auxin supports high intensity blue light (HBL)-mediated phototropism. Flavonoids, secondary metabolites induced by blue light and TRANSPARENT TESTA GLABRA1 (TTG1), alter auxin transport. However, the role of TTG1 in HBL-induced phototropism in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) remains unclear. We found that TTG1 regulates HBL-mediated phototropism. HBL-induced degradation of CRYPTOCHROME 1 (CRY1) was repressed in ttg1-1, and depletion of CRY1 rescued the phototropic defects of the ttg1-1 mutant. Moreover, overexpression of CRY1 in a cry1 mutant background led to phototropic defects in response to HBL. These results indicated that CRY1 is involved in the regulation of TTG1-mediated phototropism in response to HBL. Further investigation showed that TTG1 physically interacts with CRY1 via its N-terminus and that the added TTG1 promotes the dimerization of CRY1. The interaction between TTG1 and CRY1 may promote HBL-mediated degradation of CRY1. TTG1 also physically interacted with blue light inhibitor of cryptochrome 1 (BIC1) and Light-Response Bric-a-Brack/Tramtrack/Broad 2 (LRB2), and these interactions either inhibited or promoted their interaction with CRY1. Exogenous gibberellins (GA) and auxins, two key plant hormones that crosstalk with CRY1, may confer the recovery of phototropic defects in the ttg1-1 mutant and CRY1-overexpressing plants. Our results revealed that TTG1 participates in the regulation of HBL-induced phototropism by modulating CRY1 levels, which are coordinated with GA or IAA signaling.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: We developed a new Bakri balloon tamponade (BBT) placement technique after vaginal delivery, which aimed to be faster without balloon slippage. This study compared the new method with standard placement of BBT in women with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) after vaginal delivery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was undertaken of women who underwent vaginal delivery at the obstetrics and gynecology departments of the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sichuan Provincial Hospital for Women and Children, and Si Chuan JINXIN Women and Children Hospital between January 2014 and December 2020. Women who underwent BBT for PPH were grouped according to placement method into the old-BBT group and the new-BBT group. RESULTS: Of 20487 childbirths by vaginal delivery, 512 (2.50%) had PPH, 77 women underwent BBT (old-BBT n = 28, new-BBT n = 49). Background characteristics were similar except prothrombin time (PT, p < 0.01) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT, p < 0.004) were lower in the new-BBT group than the old-BBT group. The operation time was shorter in the new-BBT group (p < 0.001) with less bleeding (p < 0.003) and saline injection (p < 0.001). A balloon slippage was less likely (p < 0.008) and postoperative bleeding (p < 0.01), transfusion rate (p < 0.03), transfusion volume (p < 0.002), and hospital stay was lower in the new-BBT group (p < 0.015). Multivariate analysis suggested PT (OR = 0.039, 95% CI: 0.002-0.730, p < 0.030), international normalized ratio (OR = 8.244, 95% CI: 3.807-17.850, p < 0.009), and BBT method (OR = 5.200, 95% CI: 1.745-15.493, p < 0.003), were associated with requiring a blood transfusion. CONCLUSIONS: This method of BBT placement reduced operation time, balloon slippage, bleeding, and hospital stay in women with PPH after vaginal delivery.

ABSTRACT

Phototropism is a classic adaptive growth response that helps plants to enhance light capture for photosynthesis. It was shown that hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) participates in the regulation of blue light-induced hypocotyl phototropism; however, the underlying mechanism is unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that the unilateral high-intensity blue light (HBL) could induce asymmetric distribution of H2O2 in cotton hypocotyls. Disruption of the HBL-induced asymmetric distribution of H2O2 by applying either H2O2 itself evenly on the hypocotyls or H2O2 scavengers on the lit side of hypocotyls could efficiently inhibit hypocotyl phototropic growth. Consistently, application of H2O2 on the shaded and lit sides of the hypocotyls led to reduced and enhanced hypocotyl phototropism, respectively. Further, we show that H2O2 inhibits hypocotyl elongation of cotton seedlings, thus supporting the repressive role of H2O2 in HBL-induced hypocotyl phototropism. Moreover, our results show that H2O2 interferes with HBL-induced asymmetric distribution of auxin in the cotton hypocotyls. Taken together, our study uncovers that H2O2 changes the asymmetric accumulation of auxin and inhibits hypocotyl cell elongation, thus mediating HBL-induced hypocotyl phototropism.

What is already known about this topic?: The effective implementation of cervical cancer examination programs requires improved cervical cancer screening coverage and quality. What is added by this report?: The detection rate of ≥high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) in 6 hospitals was 19.6%. Not having undergone screening in the last 5 years and abnormal screening results had a negative association with detection of ≥HSIL, and abnormal screening results would increase the risk of detection by 75% compared with normal screening results. Additionally, low-grade, high-grade, and cancer of colposcopic impression were associated with a higher risk for detecting ≥HSIL. What are the implications for public health practice?: It is essential to disseminate health knowledge about cervical cancer control to women in order to increase their awareness and screening rates. Additionally, it is necessary to further strengthen the training of professional staff to improve the quality of cervical cancer prevention, including screening, colposcopic examination, and follow-up for target female populations.

ABSTRACT

Propane-1,2,3-triol-loaded polysulfone (PSF) microcapsules were prepared by the solvent evaporation method. The particle size of the microcapsules is about 140 µm. The shell wall thickness is about 17 µm approximately. The microcapsules have high thermal stability and antiwear performance. The self-healing coating was prepared by adding the prepared capsule into the epoxy resin coating. After electrochemical and corrosion immersion experiments, the resistance modulus of the coating added to the microcapsules was higher than the others in a 3.5 wt % NaCl corrosion solution, and it had the lowest corrosion current density, so the self-healing microcapsule coatings showed excellent healing ability and corrosion inhibition function for microcracks. This was attributed to the formation of a hydrophobic film after propane-1,2,3-triol was released from the damaged microcapsules.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Human epithelial growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is overexpressed in several types of cancers. The correlation between tumor glucose activity and HER2 expression can vary. This study is a retrospective investigation of fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) and HER2 expression status in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. METHODS: The maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) of 18F-FDG PET/CT was compared with the HER2 expression status in pretreated patients with lung adenocarcinoma. Moreover, clinicopathological characteristics, including age, gender, smoking, serum tumor markers, tumor location, size, stage and genetic mutation, were also evaluated in groups with different HER2 expressions. Patients' progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were also analyzed. RESULTS: Ninety-six patients with HER2 expression, including 54 patients with HER2 overexpression and 30 patients without HER2 expression were enrolled in this study. The primary pulmonary lesion was single in all patients, and all lesions were FDG-avid on PET/CT. SUVmax had no significant association with HER2 expression or overexpression in lung adenocarcinoma. Moreover, elevated serum CYFRA211 levels were obviously associated with HER2 expression but not associated with HER2 overexpression. There were no significant differences in other clinicopathological characteristics in groups with different HER2 expressions. Furthermore, multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that SUVmax, HER2 expression and tumor node metastasis stage were independent predictors of PFS, and SUVmax, CYFRA211 and epidermal growth factor receptor mutation were independent predictors of OS. CONCLUSION: SUVmax had no significant association with the HER2 expression status in lung adenocarcinoma. 18F-FDG PET/CT and HER2 expression could provide valuable prognostic information for treatment-naive patients with lung adenocarcinoma.

ABSTRACT

There is great economic and environmental value in recovering valuable metal ions from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). A novel method that employs organic acid recovery using citric acid and salicylic acid was used to enhance the leaching of metal ions from the cathode materials of spent LIBs. The effects of the acid concentration, reducing agent content, solid to liquid (S : L) ratio, temperature, and leaching time were systematically analyzed and the optimal acid leaching process condition was determined through the results. The kinetics of the leaching process with different temperatures was analyzed to explore and verify the relationship between the leaching mechanism and temperature. The results of TG/DSC analysis showed that the optimum calcination temperature was 500 °C for 1 h and 600 °C for 3 h. The XRD and micromorphology analysis results showed that cathode material powders without impurities were obtained after pretreatment. The experimental results demonstrated that the optimal leaching efficiencies of the metals ions were 99.5% Co and 97% Li and the optimal corresponding condition was 1.5 M citric acid, 0.2 M salicylic acid, a 15 g L-1 S : L ratio, 6 vol% H2O2, 90 °C, and 90 min. Afterward, the infrared tests and SEM morphologies results indicated that only salicylic acid was present in the residue after filtration because of the microsolubility of the salicylic acid. Finally, it was obvious that the temperature had a great influence on the leaching process as observed through the kinetics and thermodynamics analyses, while the E a values for Co and Li were obtained as 37.96 kJ mol-1 and 25.82 kJ mol-1 through the kinetics model. The whole process was found to be efficient and reasonable for recovering valuable metals from the industrial electrodes of spent LIBs.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: China carries a heavy burden of cervical cancer and has an alarmingly low cervical cancer screening rate. In order to achieve the goal of cervical cancer elimination, there is an urgent need for suitable methods and strategies in China. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total 9972 woman who received cervical cancer screening services of National Cervical Cancer Screening Program in Rural Areas (NCCSPRA) in 8 project counties participated in this study. TruScreen, HPV test and LBC test were performed in all participants. A total of 1945women had one or more than one positive or abnormal screening results of the above three screening tests subsequently received colposcopy. The detection rate of CIN2+ between the three tests were compared. RESULTS: No matter what kind of screening method is used, the CIN2+ detection rate in the eastern regions was much higher than that in the central and western regions. The total detection rate of CIN2+ in HPV group was highest (0.73%), following in LBC group (0.44%) and TS group (0.31%). There was statistically significant difference in the total detection rate of CIN2+ between TS and HPV groups, LBC and HPV groups, respectively. There was no statistical difference in the total detection rate of CIN2+ between TS and LBC screening groups. Moreover, except for the eastern regions, there was no statistical difference in the detection rate of CIN2+ between TS group and the other two groups in central and western regions. CONCLUSION: If it can meet the requirements of the laboratory and personnel, HPV test seems to be the preferred method for cervical cancer screening in rural areas of China. The characteristics of minimal training requirements, simple operation, real-time results obtained without the collection of cervical cell samples and the help of laboratory equipment and cytologists of TS make it ideal for cervical cancer screening in low-resource regions.

BACKGROUND: Immunotherapy targeting programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) or its ligand 1 (PD-L1) has shown promising results in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Exploring PD-L1 expression could help to select NSCLC candidates for immunotherapy. Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT could provide phenotypic information on malignant tumors. Thus, this study investigated PD-L1 expression correlation with metabolic parameters of FDG PET/CT and clinicopathological characteristics in NSCLC. METHODS: FDG PET/CT metabolic parameters including maximum standard uptake (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume and total lesion glycolysis of primary lesion (MTV-P, TLG-P), and combination of primary lesion and metastases (MTV-C, TLG-C) were compared with PD-L1-positive expression in patients with NSCLC. Moreover, clinicopathological characteristics, including age, gender, smoking history, serum tumor markers, tumor location, size, TNM stage, and genetic mutation were also reviewed. RESULTS: All 374 patients (215 men; 159 women; age 63 ± 9 years) included 283 adenocarcinomas (ACs) and 91 squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). PD-L1 expression was positive in 27.8% (104/374) cases. SUVmax, TLG-P, and TLG-C of PD-L1 positivity were significantly higher than PD-L1 negativity. Moreover, PD-L1 expression was obviously correlated with man, smoking, and central NSCLC. If ACs and SCCs were separately analyzed, PD-L1 positivity in ACs and SCCs was 21.6% (61/283) and 47.5% (43/91), respectively, and only SUVmax was obviously associated with PD-L1 expression. Furthermore, multivariate analysis revealed that only SUVmax was an independent predictor of PD-L1 positive expression in overall NSCLC, AC, and SCC. Using a SUVmax cut-off value of 12.5, PD-L1 status of NSCLC was predicted by FDG PET/CT with sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 65.4%, 86.7%, and 80.7%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: PD-L1 expression of NSCLC was related to SUVmax, TLG, man, smoking, and central location. However, only SUVmax was an independent predictor of PD-L1 positivity, which could help to explore the existence of immune checkpoints.

ABSTRACT

Both phototropins (phot1 and phot2) and cryptochromes (cry1 and cry2) were proven as the Arabidopsis thaliana blue light receptors. Phototropins predominately function in photomovement, and cryptochromes play a role in photomorphogenesis. Although cryptochromes have been proposed to serve as positive modulators of phototropic responses, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. Here, we report that depleting sucrose from the medium or adding gibberellic acids (GAs) can partially restore the defects in phototropic curvature of the phot1 phot2 double mutants under high-intensity blue light; this restoration does not occur in phot1 phot2 cry1 cry2 quadruple mutants and nph3 (nonphototropic hypocotyl 3) mutants which were impaired phototropic response in sucrose-containing medium. These results indicate that GAs and sucrose antagonistically regulate hypocotyl phototropism in a cryptochromes dependent manner, but it showed a crosstalk with phototropin signaling on NPH3. Furthermore, cryptochromes activation by blue light inhibit GAs synthesis, thus stabilizing DELLAs to block hypocotyl growth, which result in the higher GAs content in the shade side than the lit side of hypocotyl to support the asymmetric growth of hypocotyl. Through modulation of the abundance of DELLAs by sucrose depletion or added GAs, it revealed that cryptochromes have a function in mediating phototropic curvature.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Our purpose was to establish a simple and feasible method for monitoring and controlling the Tc-Technegas inhaled to improve the success ratio of imaging and ensure the imaging quality. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The relationship between the success ratio and the pulmonary ventilation counting rate (VCR) of 113 cases, the activity of perfusion imaging agents injected and the pulmonary perfusion counting rate (PCR) of another 114 cases were analysed retrospectively. And combined with the relationship between the surface radioactivity monitoring value and the SPECT probe counting rate of a pulmonary model, the effective range of the VCR and the surface radioactivity monitoring value were determined. Two hundred fifty cases with Tc-Technegas inhaled monitored and controlled were used to verify the reliability and practicability of this method. RESULTS: The VCR of the ventilation/perfusion imaging with deep venous thrombosis imaging and the ventilation/perfusion imaging without deep venous thrombosis imaging was in 1.0-3.0 kct/s and 1.0-2.0 kct/s when the monitoring values of handheld radiation monitor was within the range of 60-170 µSv/h and 60-110 µSv/h, respectively. The success ratio of the V/Q-Only increased from 48.9% (43/88) of the control group to 80.8% (122/151) of the experimental group. The VCR in the two groups was examined by the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test (P < 0.001), which indicated that there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. CONCLUSION: The external monitoring method established in this study was of great significance in improving the success ratio of 1-day pulmonary ventilation/perfusion imaging and ensuring the image quality.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) on the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in rats with cerebral hemorrhage. Materials and methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into: a sham group, a model group and an HO-1 inhibitor group (ZnPP group). Functional defects after surgery were scored according to the Longa5 standard. Hemotoxylin and eosin staining was used to detect whether the model was constructed successfully. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) vitality and malondialdehyde (MDA) content were calculated by the xanthine oxidase method and thiobarbituric acid method, respectively. Blood-brain barrier permeability was measured by Evans Blue. Apoptosis was detected by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling assay. The expression of Bcl-2 and BAX was evaluated by immunohistochemistry and the expression of PI3K, p-PI3K, AKT and p-AKT was tested by Western blotting. Results: The rat intracerebral hemorrhage model was successfully constructed. Compared with the model group, the bleeding in the ZnPP group was more serious, the cell edema and deformation were aggravated, and the neurological deficit score in the rat was significantly increased. In addition, the content of Evans blue, MDA, the number of apoptotic cells, the water content of brain tissue and the expression of BAX were significantly increased, while the SOD activity and the expressions of Bcl-2, p-PI3K and p-AKT protein were decreased. Conclusion: HO-1 could protect the nerves of rats with cerebral hemorrhage by regulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mechanism of dexmedetomidine (Dex) in improving brain damage induced by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. METHODS: Rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group, ischemia-reperfusion group, Dex group, piracetam group, and yohimbine + Dex group, with 12 rats per group. 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining was used to analyze cerebral infarct size. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemistry were used to observe brain damage caused by ischemia-reperfusion. Cognitive and memory functions was detected by Morris water maze test, and the expression of phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1/2) and phosphorylated cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein (CREB) were measured by Western blot. RESULTS: Cognitive dysfunction was improved in the Dex group and the piracetam group compared with the ischemia-reperfusion group. Compared with the ischemia-reperfusion group, infarct size and neuronal cell death rates were decreased in the Dex group and the piracetam group. The expression of phosphorylated ERK1/2 and phosphorylated CREB in the Dex group was increased, whereas the expression of phosphorylated ERK1/2 and phosphorylated CREB in the yohimbine + Dex group was lower than in the Dex group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Dex improved ischemic brain damage by promoting signal transduction of the ERK/CREB pathway, which may provide new ways for clinical treatment of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate effect of miR-145 on learning and memory ability in rats with epilepsy. METHODS: Rats with epilepsy were induced by lithium chloride-pilocarpine. miR-145 antagomir and antagomir-control were injected into epileptic brains by the stereotactic technique, respectively. Then, rats were divided into a normal group (N), epilepsy group (Ep), miR-145 antagomir group (A) and antagomir-control group (C). After 1 and 7 days of treatment, the expression of miR-145 and Caspase-9 were detected, and the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons in CA1 of hippocampus was detected. After 7 days of treatment, the learning and memory abilities of rats was measured by using the Morris water maze test. RESULTS: The rat epilepsy model was successfully constructed. Compared with the N group, the target quadrant time and platform crossing times were reduced and the expression of miR-145 and Caspase-9 was increased in the epilepsy groups (P < 0.05). Compared with the Ep and C groups, the target quadrant time and platform crossing times were increased and the expression of miR-145 and Caspase-9 was down-regulated in the A group (P < 0.05). The number of apoptotic hippocampal neurons in the hippocampal CAl area of the Ep group was more than that in the N group and in the A group was less than that in the C group at 1 and 7 days after modeling respectively (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Down-regulated miR-145 improved the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons by reducing the Caspase-9 expression in hippocampus and further affected learning and memory abilities of rats with epilepsy.

ABSTRACT

Phototropins (phot1 and phot2) are blue-light receptors that control cotyledon flattening and positioning under strong light; however, their functional redundancy restricts our understanding of the specific roles of phot2. To identify the factors responsible for phot2-dependent cotyledon flattening and growth, we screened for light-insensitive mutants among mutagenized phot1 mutants in Arabidopsis thaliana. The double mutant phot1 lea1 (leaf expansion associated 1), which is defective in cotyledon flattening and positioning but not the phototropic response was selected. This mutant phenotype could be alleviated by constitutively expressing MORE AXILLARY GROWTH 2 (MAX2), indicating that LEA1 was allelic to MAX2. The max2 mutants (max2-2 and max2-3) are defective in cotyledon flattening, which is similar to that of the phot1 phot2 mutants. Moreover, the amounts of MAX2 transcripts are inhibited in leaves of phot1 mutant. However, the additional disruption of PHOT1 gene in max2-2 or max2-3 did not affect their phenotype, including MAX2-mediated inhibition of hypocotyl elongation. By contrast, phototropins-mediated hypocotyl phototropism was not regulated by MAX2. Together, these results suggest that cotyledon flattening was mediated by both phototropins and MAX2 signaling, but the relationship between two pathways need further study.

The radiological features of pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma (PSH) and pulmonary hamartoma are poorly specified. Thus, the present study aimed to compare and analyze the characteristics of fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in PSH versus pulmonary hamartoma. 18F-FDG PET/CT characteristic findings of 12 patients with PSH and 14 patients with pulmonary hamartoma were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 12 lesions were detected from the 12 patients with PSH, of which 3 masses exhibited calcification. The mean diameter and standardized maximum uptake value (SUVmax) were 1.9±0.7 cm and 2.6±1.0, respectively, and there was no significant correlation between the lesion size and SUVmax (P>0.05). For the 14 patients with pulmonary hamartoma, 14 lesions were found, of which 4 exhibited calcification. The mean diameter and SUVmax were 1.7±0.8 cm and 1.5±0.6, respectively, and there was a significant correlation between the size and SUVmax (r=0.625, r2=0.391, P<0.05). Although there was no significant difference between the size of PSH and pulmonary hamartoma (P>0.05), the SUVmax of PSH was significantly higher than that of pulmonary hamartoma (P<0.05). Moreover, the SUVmax of 1.95 was applied as a cutoff for the diagnosis of PSH, and the resulting sensitivity and specificity for PET/CT to differentiate PSH from pulmonary hamartoma were 83.3 and 78.6%, respectively. Although the morphological features were not specific, PSH showed significantly higher FDG accumulation than pulmonary hamartoma on PET/CT imaging, which may aid the differential diagnosis. Further studies with larger populations are warranted to confirm these study results.

ABSTRACT

Two redundant blue-light receptors, known as phototropins (phot1 and phot2), influence a variety of physiological responses, including phototropism, chloroplast positioning, and stomatal opening in Arabidopsis thaliana. Whereas phot1 functions in both low- and high-intensity blue light (HBL), phot2 functions primarily in HBL. Here, we aimed to elucidate phot2-specific functions by screening for HBL-insensitive mutants among mutagenized Arabidopsis phot1 mutants. One of the resulting phot2 signaling associated (p2sa) double mutants, phot1 p2sa2, exhibited phototropic defects that could be restored by constitutively expressing NON-PHOTOTROPIC HYPOCOTYL 3 (NPH3), indicating that P2SA2 was allelic to NPH3. It was observed that NPH3-GFP signal mainly localized to and clustered on the plasma membrane in darkness. This NPH3 clustering on the plasma membrane was not affected by mutations in genes encoding proteins that interact with NPH3, including PHOT1, PHOT2 and ROOT PHOTOTROPISM 2 (RPT2). However, the HBL irradiation-mediated release of NPH3 proteins into the cytoplasm was inhibited in phot1 mutants and enhanced in phot2 and rpt2-2 mutants. Furthermore, HBL-induced hypocotyl phototropism was enhanced in phot1 mutants and inhibited in the phot2 and rpt2-2 mutants. Our findings indicate that phot1 regulates the dissociation of NPH3 from the plasma membrane, whereas phot2 mediates the stabilization and relocation of NPH3 to the plasma membrane to acclimate to HBL.

ABSTRACT

Root waving responses have been attributed to both environmental and genetics factors, but the potential inducers and transducers of root waving remain elusive. Thus, the identification of novel signal elements related to root waving is an intriguing field of research. Genetic, physiological, cytological, live cell imaging, and pharmacological approaches provide strong evidence for the involvement of Arabidopsis thaliana NITRIC OXIDE-ASSOCIATED PROTEIN1 (AtNOA1) in salicylic acid (SA)-induced root waving. SA specially induced root waving, with an overall decrease in root elongation in A. thaliana, and this SA-induced response was disrupted in the Atnoa1 mutant, as well as in nonexpresser of pathogenesis-related genes 1 (npr1), which is defective in SA-mediated plant defense signal transduction, but not in npr3/4 single and double mutants. The expression assays revealed that the abundance of AtNOA1 was significantly increased by application of SA. Genetic and pharmacological analyses showed that SA-induced root waving involved an AtNOA1-dependent Ca(2+) signal transduction pathway, and PIN-FORMED2 (PIN2) -based polar auxin transport possibly plays a crucial role in this process. Our work suggests that SA signaling through NPR1 and AtNOA1 is involved in the control of root waving, which provides new insights into the mechanisms that control root growth behavior on a hard agar surface.

ABSTRACT

Focusing on the heart rate control mode of acceleration sensor based rate responsive pacemakers, this paper implemented the design of activity--heart rate prediction system. Bluetooth module was used as communication means in activity--heart rate prediction system, and the slave computer was used to complete the acceleration signal acquisition and processing, map from acceleration signal to the pacing rate signal, and achieve real-time transmission of acceleration signal and heart rate signal. The master computer fulfilled real-time display and recording of acceleration signal and heart rate signal, moreover, it achieved control function to the slave computer algorithm through classification of 6 parameters. The results of verification experiment showed that there was a significant relation between mapping heart rate and actual heart rate using linear mapping algorithm (R2 = 0.787, P < 0.001).

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the expression of transforming growth factor beta1 (TGFbeta1) and its type I receptors activin-like kinase 1 (ALK1) and ALK5 mRNA in the development of brain arteriovenous malformation (BAVM). METHODS: The mRNA expressions of TGFbeta1, ALK1and ALK5 were detected with semiquantitative RT-PCR in patients with BAVM. RESULTS: The expressions of TGFbeta1 and ALK5 mRNA increased significantly in BAVM, and their relative expression quantity were 0.777-/+0.047 and 0.585-/+0.074, respectively. However, ALK1 mRNA expression declined significantlies with a relative expression of 0.173-/+0.044 in comparison with the control group (0.720-/+0.098, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The balance of TGFbeta1 and its type I receptors ALK1 and ALK5 mRNA expressions may play important role in the development of BAVM.
