ABSTRACT

A comparative epidemiological study covered two groups of patients (n = 4811), aged 55 years and over, diametrically differing with regard to the origin of the disease: (1) schizophrenic patients and patients with mental disturbances in the long-term period of craniocerebral trauma. The authors consider age-specific peculiarities of the rate and structure of antisocial actions, as well as their relationship with some clinical, social, and demographic characteristics of the patients.

ABSTRACT

The end results of surgical and combination therapy of lung cancer are compared on the basis of rates of survival for 5 years and longer. Extended resection of lung including the removal of lymph nodes and mediastinal fat tissue was performed in all cases. Such megavolt radiation sources as Lootch, Rokus, Lu-4, 3 Mev were used in postoperative radiation treatment. No significant differences in the end results of the two schemes of treatment were found in cases of stage I-II tumors. Survival for 5 years and longer were registered in 30.2% of patients with stage III tumor after combination therapy and 25.9% of patients treated by surgery alone. Surgical treatment of extensive stage III tumor should be followed by radiation.

ABSTRACT

Radiograms with direct enlargement of the image were performed by means of X-ray apparatus "PEIC" designed by the firm "Svetlana", Leningrad. The status of the hand bones was studied in persons with posttraumatic bone regeneration, as well as angioarchitectonics of organs in experimental animals. In radiograms with direct enlargement some details characterising the process of ageing in the hand bones are observed more distinctly than in routine radiograms. The investigators succeeded in obtaining age changes in the structure of spongy substance and of cortical layer of phalanxes. The apparatus "PEIC" presents new possibilities for vital investigation of bone ostructures in experimental and clinical work, as well as to examine preparations of organs and their histological sections.

ABSTRACT

The work deals with the study of the causes of diagnosing advanced bronchial cancer. Based on a retrospective analysis of case reports and roentgenological findings in 200 patients, it is believed to be mandatory to carry on complete roentgenological examination of patients at early stages of patients' address for medical aid, and also to take into account the topography of neoplastic process and roentgenological manifestations of different stages of impaired bronchial patency.

ABSTRACT

The work deals with the significance of quantitative rentgenological methods in morphological studies. The results of these methods used for estimation of certain developmental changes in the skeleton as well as for estimation of experimental data on the reparation of the bone tissue are analyzed. It is also shown that the quantitative rentgenological estimation of the state of soft tissues is possible. The role of rentgenogrammetry and rentgendensitometry in the intravital characteristics of the morphological changes associated with different factors is stressed.
