ABSTRACT

Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major event in renal transplantation, leading to adverse outcomes. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are novel promising therapeutics for repairing kidney injuries. The therapeutic efficacy of BMSCs with ISL1 overexpression in renal IRI and its underlying mechanism need to be investigated. The unilateral renal IRI rat model was established to mimic clinical acute kidney injury. Rats were injected with PBS, BMSCs-Scrambled or BMSCs-ISL1 via the tail vein at the timepoint of reperfusion, and then sacrificed after 24 h of reperfusion. The administration of BMSCs-ISL1 significantly improved renal function, inhibited tubular cells apoptosis, inflammation, oxidative stress in rats. In vitro, HKC cells subjected to H2O2 stimulation were pretreated with the conditioned medium (CM) of BMSCs-Scrambled or BMSCs-ISL1. The pretreatment of ISL1-CM attenuated apoptosis and oxidative stress induced by H2O2 in HKC cells. Our proteomic data suggested that haptoglobin (Hp) was one of the secretory proteins in ISL1-CM. Subsequent experiments confirmed that Hp was the important paracrine factor from BMSCs-ISL1 that exerted anti-apoptotic and antioxidant functions. Mechanistically, Hp played a cytoprotective role via the inhibition of ERK signaling pathway, which could be abrogated by Ro 67-7476, the ERK phosphorylation agonist. The results suggested that paracrine action may be the main mechanism for BMSCs-ISL1 to exert protective effects. As an important anti-apoptotic and antioxidant factor in ISL1-CM, Hp may serve as a new therapeutic agent for treating IRI, providing new insights for overcoming the long-term adverse effects of stem cell therapy.

ABSTRACT

The major reason for the failure of conventional therapies is the heterogeneity and complexity of tumor microenvironments (TMEs). Many malignant tumors reprogram their surface antigens to evade the immune surveillance, leading to reduced antigen-presenting cells and hindered T-cell activation. Bacteria-mediated cancer immunotherapy has been extensively investigated in recent years. Scientists have ingeniously modified bacteria using synthetic biology and nanotechnology to enhance their biosafety with high tumor specificity, resulting in robust anticancer immune responses. To enhance the antitumor efficacy, therapeutic proteins, cytokines, nanoparticles, and chemotherapeutic drugs have been efficiently delivered using engineered bacteria. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of oncolytic bacterial therapies, covering bacterial design and the intricate interactions within TMEs. Additionally, it offers an in-depth comparison of the current techniques used for bacterial modification, both internally and externally, to maximize their therapeutic effectiveness. Finally, we outlined the challenges and opportunities ahead in the clinical application of oncolytic bacterial therapies.

ABSTRACT

Ball-milled plastic char supported nano zero-valent iron (nZVI@BMPC) and their application combined with anaerobic sludge for microbial dechlorination of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) were investigated. The XRD and FTIR analysis proved composition of zero valent states of iron, and the BET and SEM analysis showed that nZVI was uniformly distributed on the surface of BMPC. Successive addition of 1000 mg/L sodium lactate and nZVI@BMPC enhanced the acclamation of anaerobic sludge and resulted in the degradation of 4-CP within 80 days. The acclimated consortium with nZVI@BMPC completely degraded 2,4,6-TCP into CH4 and CO2, and the key dechlorination route was through 4-CP dechlorinaion and mineralization. The degradation rate of 2,4,6-TCP with nZVI@BMPC was 0.22/d, greater than that without nZVI@BMPC. The dechlorination efficiency was enhanced in the Fe2+/Fe3+ system controlled by nZVI@BMPC and iron-reducing bacteria. Metagenomic analysis result showed that the dominant de-chlorinators were Chloroflexi sp., Desulfovibrio, and Pseudomonas, which could directly degrade 2,4,6-TCP to 4-CP, especially, Chloroflexi bacterium could concurrently be used to mineralize 4-CP. The relative abundance of the functional genes cprA, acoA, acoB, and tfdB increased significantly in the presence of the nZVI@BMPC. This study provides a new strategy can be a good alternative for possible application in groundwater remediation.

ABSTRACT

Electronegativity and ionicity are important but difficult concepts. In this work, we present the universal scale of electronegativity by utilizing electron scattering factors. A mapping of our proposed "scattering electronegativity" with Pauling electronegativity and other electronegativity scales is given. Two new ionicity scales based on electron scattering factors are also proposed and compared with Philips's ionicity and Pauling's ionicity. Although electron scattering factors are based on neutral, free, atomic features, scattering electronegativity and ionicity are able to provide rich charge or bonding information of materials in molecules or solid states. Our newly proposed electronegativity scale satisfies the metalloid band criterion (or Si rule). A new Mg rule and a new concept of critical ionicity gap are proposed, successfully distinguishing between the four-fold and six-fold coordinates in the ANB8-N crystals.

ABSTRACT

The Chinese government's reclassification of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) from a class Ⅰ to a class Ⅱ animal infectious disease, now also including CSF under the disease eradication program, reflects the significant progress made through extensive immunization with CSF vaccines. In light of this advancement, there is an imperative need for an expedient and accurate method to assess the levels of immunoprotection against classical swine fever virus (CSFV) in vaccinated pigs, a critical component in the campaign to eradicate the disease. This study develops an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA) based on a highly glycosylated E2 protein stable expressed in CHO-K1 mammalian cells. Statistical analysis revealed strong positive correlations between the iELISA and VNT results (r = 0.9063, p < 0.0001) that were much greater than those between the IDEXX ELISA and VNT results (r = 0.8126, p < 0.0001). Taking the VNT data as the standard, the consistency of the iELISA (κ =0.880) was greater than that of the IDEXX ELISA (κ =0.699). In summary, the iELISA provides a more efficient and precise method for assessing CSFV immunity in pigs. Its reliable detection of immunoprotection levels against CSFV makes it an essential tool for optimizing CSF vaccination strategies. Consequently, its application can significantly support the ongoing efforts to eradicate CSF.

ABSTRACT

Zimbabwe, located in Southern Africa, faces a significant public health challenge due to schistosomiasis. We investigated this issue with emphasis on risk prediction of schistosomiasis for the entire population. To this end, we reviewed available data on schistosomiasis in Zimbabwe from a literature search covering the 1980-2022 period considering the potential impact of 26 environmental and socioeconomic variables obtained from public sources. We studied the population requiring praziquantel with regard to whether or not mass drug administration (MDA) had been regularly applied. Three machine-learning algorithms were tested for their ability to predict the prevalence of schistosomiasis in Zimbabwe based on the mean absolute error (MAE), the root mean squared error (RMSE) and the coefficient of determination (R2). The findings revealed different roles of the 26 factors with respect to transmission and there were particular variations between Schistosoma haematobium and S. mansoni infections. We found that the top-five correlation factors, such as the past (rather than current) time, unsettled MDA implementation, constrained economy, high rainfall during the warmest season, and high annual precipitation were closely associated with higher S. haematobium prevalence, while lower elevation, high rainfall during the warmest season, steeper slope, past (rather than current) time, and higher minimum temperature in the coldest month were rather related to higher S. mansoni prevalence. The random forest (RF) algorithm was considered as the formal best model construction method, with MAE = 0.108; RMSE = 0.143; and R2 = 0.517 for S. haematobium, and with the corresponding figures for S. mansoni being 0.053; 0.082; and 0.458. Based on this optimal model, the current total schistosomiasis prevalence in Zimbabwe under MDA implementation was 19.8%, with that of S. haematobium at 13.8% and that of S. mansoni at 7.1%, requiring annual MDA based on a population of 3,003,928. Without MDA, the current total schistosomiasis prevalence would be 23.2%, that of S. haematobium 17.1% and that of S. mansoni prevalence at 7.4%, requiring annual MDA based on a population of 3,521,466. The study reveals that MDA alone is insufficient for schistosomiasis elimination, especially that due to S. mansoni. This study predicts a moderate prevalence of schistosomiasis in Zimbabwe, with its elimination requiring comprehensive control measures beyond the currently used strategies, including health education, snail control, population surveillance and environmental management.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The Japan NBI Expert Team (JNET) classification has good diagnostic potential for colorectal diseases. We aimed to explore the diagnostic value of the JNET classification type 2B (JNET2B) criteria for colorectal laterally spreading tumors (LSTs) based on magnifying endoscopy with blue laser imaging (ME-BLI) examination. METHODS: Between January 2017 and June 2023, 218 patients who were diagnosed as having JNET2B-type LSTs using ME-BLI were included retrospectively. Endoscopic images were reinterpreted to categorize the LSTs as JNET2B-low (n = 178) and JNET2B-high (n = 53) LSTs. The JNET2B-low and JNET2B-high LSTs were compared based on their histopathological and morphological classifications. RESULTS: Among the 178 JNET2B-low LSTs, 86 (48.3%) were histopathologically classified as low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia, 54 (30.3%) as high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGIN), 37 (20.8%) as intramucosal carcinoma (IMC), and one (0.6%) as superficial invasive submucosal carcinoma (SMC1). Among the 53 JNET2B-high LSTs, five (9.4%) were classified as HGIN, 28 (52.9%) as IMC, 15 (28.3%) as SMC1, and 5 (9.4%) as deep invasive submucosal carcinoma. There were significant differences in this histopathological classification between the two groups (P < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference between JNET2B-low and JNET2B-high LSTs based on their morphological classification (granular vs nongranular) or size (<20 mm vs ≥20 mm). Besides, the κ value for JNET2B subtyping was 0.698 (95% confidence interval 0.592-0.804) between the two endoscopists who reassessed the endoscopic images. CONCLUSION: The JNET2B subtyping of LSTs has a diagnostic potential in the preoperative setting, and may be valuable for treatment decision-making.

Pyrite (FeS2) has garnered attention due to its narrow bandgap, high light absorption, and low cost. However, the rapid recombination of charge carriers hinders its practical application. Surface electric field is a unique characteristic of tourmaline, which can induce effective separation of photo generated electrons and holes. This study successfully combined two directly mined natural minerals, tourmaline and pyrite, to form TFS. Characterization and experiments show that the surface electric field of tourmaline can significantly enhance the photocatalytic activity of TFS. Tetracycline (TC, 50 ppm) was degraded by 95% with 60 min, and the TFS reaction rate constant reached 0.0439 min-1, which is 6.1 times and 17.3 times higher than that of tourmaline and FeS2. Additionally, it significantly improved light absorption and charge carrier separation capabilities. After simulating various natural environmental factors, TFS demonstrated practicality. Considered analysis of active substances and detection revealed that h+ and 1O2 radicals are significant contributors, and the photocatalytic mechanism was proposed. Furthermore, the transformation pathways and toxicity of metabolites were studied. This research offers further inspiration and insights for improving photocatalytic material performance and the green governance environment of natural resources.

We aimed to evaluate the potential causal relationship between brain imaging-derived phenotypes and cognitive functions via Mendelian randomization analyses. Genetic instruments for 470 brain imaging-derived phenotypes were selected from a genome-wide association study based on the UK Biobank (n = 33,224). Statistics for cognitive functions were obtained from the genome-wide association study based on the UK Biobank. We used the inverse variance weighted Mendelian randomization method to investigate the associations between brain imaging-derived phenotypes and cognitive functions, and reverse Mendelian randomization analyses were performed for significant brain imaging-derived phenotypes to examine the reverse causation for the identified associations. We identified three brain imaging-derived phenotypes to be associated with verbal-numerical reasoning, including cortical surface area of the left fusiform gyrus (beta, 0.18 [95% confidence interval, 0.11 to 0.25], P = 4.74 × 10-7), cortical surface area of the right superior temporal gyrus (beta, 0.25 [95% confidence interval, 0.15 to 0.35], P = 6.30 × 10-7), and orientation dispersion in the left superior longitudinal fasciculus (beta, 0.14 [95% confidence interval, 0.09 to 0.20], P = 8.37 × 10-7). The reverse Mendelian randomization analysis indicated that verbal-numerical reasoning had no effect on these three brain imaging-derived phenotypes. This Mendelian randomization study identified cortical surface area of the left fusiform gyrus, cortical surface area of the right superior temporal gyrus, and orientation dispersion in the left superior longitudinal fasciculus as predictors of verbal-numerical reasoning.

ABSTRACT

ETHNO-PHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Huangqi Gegen decoction (HGD), which comprises Astragali Radix (AR) and Puerariae Radix (PR), is widely used to treat thrombosis in China. However, the mechanism underlying its synergistic effect in thrombosis treatment remains unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: Following PR administration, low plasma exposure was reported for its primary ingredients. In this regard, this study examined the effect of AR on PR's antithrombotic efficacy with respect to the impact of Astragalus Polysaccharide (APS) on the oral delivery of Puerarin (PUE). MATERIALS AND METHODS: To evaluate the synergistic effect of HGD, a thrombus mice model was established via intraperitoneal injection of carrageenan. After treatment, histopathological observations were made, and the proportion of thrombus length in the tail, as well as the plasma APTT, PT, INR, and FIB levels, were detected. Molecular docking was employed to assess the PR ingredients that could inhibit the HMGB1/NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway. The Pharmacokinetics of PR ingredients in rats were also compared between the PR and HGD groups. Moreover, the effect of APS on the solubility, intestinal absorption, and pharmacokinetics of PUE was evaluated. Furthermore, the impact of APS on the antithrombotic efficacy of PUE was assessed. RESULTS: In mice, AR enhanced the antithrombotic effect of PR. This improved PR effect was associated with isoflavones-induced downregulation of the HMGB1/NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway. The synergistic effect resulting from the compatibility of HGD components was primarily achieved by improving the plasma exposure of PR isoflavones. Specifically, APS enhanced PUE's water solubility through the formation of self-assembly Nanoparticles, increasing its intestinal absorption and oral bioavailability, which, in turn, suppressed the HMGB1/NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway, thus improving its antithrombotic effect. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings revealed that APS improved PUE's plasma exposure, enhancing its inhibitory effect on the HMGB1/NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway. This mechanism presents a key aspect of the synergistic effect of HGD compatibility in thrombosis treatment.

ABSTRACT

The development of peptide-based hydrogels characterized by both high biostability and potent antimicrobial activity, aimed at combating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and providing scaffolds for cell cultures, continues to pose a significant challenge. The susceptibility of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) to degradation by cations, serum, and proteases restricted their applications in clinical environments. In this study, we designed a peptide sequence (termed D-IK1) entirely consisting of D-amino acids, an enantiomer of a previously reported AMP IK1. Our results demonstrated remarkably improved antibacterial and anticancer activities of D-IK1 as compared to IK1. D-IK1 self-assembled into hydrogels that effectively inhibited bacterial and cancer cell growth by the controlled and sustained release of D-IK1. Importantly, D-IK1 was extremely stable in salt solutions and resisted serum and protease degradation. In addition, the D-IK1 hydrogel fostered cell adhesion and proliferation, proving its viability as a 3D scaffold for cell culture applications. Our research presents a versatile, highly stable antibacterial hydrogel scaffold with potential widespread applications in cell culture, wound healing, and the eradication of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections.

Diffuse large B-cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) is an aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). The disease generally occurs in older patients. Although at a lower prevalence, the disease also occurs in the adolescent and young adult group (AYA). There is paucity of data in the literature on racial and ethnic disparities in the incidence and survival outcomes of DLBCL in the AYA group. The objective of our study is to demonstrate the disparities in these outcomes. Utilizing SEER, we obtained data on patient demographics, incidence, and survival from 2000 to 2020. We observed statistically significant reduced incidence of DLBCL in all racial groups, except the non-Hispanic Asian and Pacific Islander group (NHAPI). The non-Hispanic Black group (NHB) had one of the lowest survival despite showing the largest decrease in incidence in DLBCL. The differences in the survival could be secondary to socioeconomic factors, however other reasons need to be explored. The increased incidence among the NHAPI group mirrors that of large population-based studies in East Asian countries, however, underlying reasons have not been elucidated.

The interfacial instability of the poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based electrolytes impedes the long-term cycling and further application of all-solid-state lithium metal batteries. In this work, we have shown an effective additive 1-adamantanecarbonitrile, which contributes to the excellent performance of the poly(ethylene oxide)-based electrolytes. Owing to the strong interaction of the 1-Adamantanecarbonitrile to the polymer matrix and anions, the coordination of the Li+-EO is weakened, and the binding effect of anions is strengthened, thereby improving the Li+ conductivity and the electrochemical stability. The diamond building block on the surface of the lithium anode can suppress the growth of lithium dendrites. Importantly, the 1-Adamantanecarbonitrile also regulates the formation of LiF in the solid electrolyte interface and cathode electrolyte interface, which contributes to the interfacial stability (especially at high voltages) and protects the electrodes, enabling all-solid-state batteries to cycle at high voltages for long periods of time. Therefore, the Li/Li symmetric cell undergoes long-term lithium plating/stripping for more than 2000 h. 1-Adamantanecarbonitrile-poly(ethylene oxide)-based LFP/Li and 4.3 V Ni0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2/Li all-solid-state batteries achieved stable cycles for 1000 times, with capacity retention rates reaching 85% and 80%, respectively.

In response to the critical challenges of interfacial impedance and volumetric changes in Li(1+x)AlxTi(2­x)(PO4)3 (LATP)-based lithium metal batteries, an elastomeric lithium-conducting interlayer fabricates from fluorinated hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (F-HNBR) matrix is introduced herein. Owing to the vulcanization, vapor-phase fluorination, and plasticization processes, the lithium-conducting interlayer exhibits a high elasticity of 423%, exceptional fatigue resistance (10 000 compression cycles), superior ionic conductivity of 6.3 × 10-4 S cm-1, and favorable lithiophilicity, rendering it an ideal buffer layer. By integrating the F-HNBR interlayer, the LATP-based lithium symmetric cells demonstrate an extended cycle life of up to 1600 h at 0.1 mA cm-2 and can also endure deep charge/discharge cycles (0.5 mAh cm-2) for the same duration. Furthermore, the corresponding lithium metal full cells achieve 500 cycles at 0.5 C with 98.3% capacity retention and enable a high-mass-loading cathode of 11.1 mg cm-2 to operate at room temperature.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related tauopathies are associated with pathological tau protein aggregation, which plays an important role in neurofibrillary degeneration and dementia. Targeted immunotherapy to eliminate pathological tau aggregates is known to improve cognitive deficits in AD animal models. The tau repeat domain (TauRD) plays a pivotal role in tau-microtubule interactions and is critically involved in the aggregation of hyperphosphorylated tau proteins. Because TauRD forms the structural core of tau aggregates, the development of immunotherapies that selectively target TauRD-induced pathological aggregates holds great promise for the modulation of tauopathies. In this study, we generated recombinant TauRD polypeptide that form neurofibrillary tangle-like structures and evaluated TauRD-specific immune responses following intranasal immunization in combination with the mucosal adjuvant FlaB. In BALB/C mice, repeated immunizations at one-week intervals induced robust TauRD-specific antibody responses in a TLR5-dependent manner. Notably, the resulting antiserum recognized only the aggregated form of TauRD, while ignoring monomeric TauRD. The antiserum effectively inhibited TauRD filament formation and promoted the phagocytic degradation of TauRD aggregate fragments by microglia. The antiserum also specifically recognized pathological tau conformers in the human AD brain. Based on these results, we engineered a built-in flagellin-adjuvanted TauRD (FlaB-TauRD) vaccine and tested its efficacy in a P301S transgenic mouse model. Mucosal immunization with FlaB-TauRD improved quality of life, as indicated by the amelioration of memory deficits, and alleviated tauopathy progression. Notably, the survival of the vaccinated mice was dramatically extended. In conclusion, we developed a mucosal vaccine that exclusively targets pathological tau conformers and prevents disease progression.

ABSTRACT

This research investigates the causal relationships among gut microbiota, inflammatory proteins, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including crohn disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), and identifies the role of inflammatory proteins as potential mediators. Our study analyzed gut microbiome data from 13,266 samples collected by the MiBioGen alliance, along with inflammatory protein data from recent research by Zhao et al, and genetic data on CD and UC from the International Inflammatory Bowel Disease Genetics Consortium (IIBDGC). We used Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the associations, complemented by replication, meta-analysis, and multivariable MR techniques for enhanced accuracy and robustness. Our analysis employed several statistical methods, including inverse-variance weighting, MR-Egger, and the weighted median method, ensuring comprehensive and precise evaluation. After MR analysis, replication and meta-analysis, we revealed significant associations between 11 types of gut microbiota and 17 inflammatory proteins were associated with CD and UC. Mediator MR analysis and multivariable MR analysis showed that in CD, the CD40L receptor mediated the causal effect of Defluviitaleaceae UCG-011 on CD (mediation ratio 8.3%), and the Hepatocyte growth factor mediated the causal effect of Odoribacter on CD (mediation ratio 18%). In UC, the C-C motif chemokine 4 mediated the causal effect of Ruminococcus2 on UC (mediation ratio 4%). This research demonstrates the interactions between specific gut microbiota, inflammatory proteins, and CD and UC. Furthermore, the CD40L receptor may mediate the relationship between Defluviitaleaceae UCG-011 and CD; the Hepatocyte growth factor may mediate the relationship between Odoribacter and CD; and the C-C motif chemokine 4 may mediate the relationship between Ruminococcus2 and UC. The identified associations and mediation effects offer insights into potential therapeutic approaches targeting the gut microbiome for managing CD and UC.

ABSTRACT

Background: The onset and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been linked to metabolic syndrome (MetS), with the results of recent observational studies supporting a potential link between renal failure and MetS. The causal nature of this relationship, however, remains uncertain. This study thus leveraged a Mendelian Randomization (MR) approach to probe the causal link of MetS with renal failure. Methods: A genetic database was initially used to identify SNPs associated with MetS and components thereof, after which causality was evaluated through the inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger regression, and weighted media techniques. Results were subsequently validated through sensitivity analyses. Results: IVW (OR = 1.48, 95% CI = 1.21-1.82, P =1.60E-04) and weighted median (OR = 1.58, 95% CI =1.15-2.17, P = 4.64E-03) analyses revealed that MetS was linked to an elevated risk of renal failure. When evaluating the specific components of MetS, waist circumference was found to be causally related to renal failure using the IVW (OR= 1.58, 95% CI = 1.39-1.81, P = 1.74e-11), MR-Egger (OR= 1.54, 95% CI = 1.03-2.29, P = 0.036), and weighted median (OR= 1.82, 95% CI = 1.48-2.24, P = 1.17e-8). The IVW method also revealed a causal association of hypertension with renal failure (OR= 1.95, 95% CI = 1.34-2.86, P = 5.42e-04), while renal failure was not causally related to fasting blood glucose, triglyceride levels, or HDL-C levels. Conclusion: These data offer further support for the existence of a causal association of MetS with kidney failure. It is thus vital that MetS be effectively managed in patients with CKD in clinical settings, particularly for patients with hypertension or a high waist circumference who are obese. Adequate interventions in these patient populations have the potential to prevent or delay the development of renal failure.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging tick-borne zoonosis caused by the SFTS virus (SFTSV). Understanding the prevalence of SFTSV RNA in humans, vertebrate hosts and ticks is crucial for SFTS control. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to determine the prevalence of SFTSV RNA in humans, vertebrate hosts and questing ticks. Nine electronic databases were searched for relevant publications, and data on SFTSV RNA prevalence were extracted. Pooled prevalence was estimated using a random effects model. Subgroup analysis and multivariable meta-regression were performed to investigate sources of heterogeneity. RESULTS: The pooled prevalence of SFTSV RNA in humans was 5.59% (95% confidence interval [CI] 2.78-9.15%) in those in close contact (close contacts) with infected individuals (infected cases) and 0.05% (95% CI 0.00-0.65%) in healthy individuals in endemic areas. The SFTSV infection rates in artiodactyls (5.60%; 95% CI 2.95-8.96%) and carnivores (6.34%; 95% CI 3.27-10.23%) were higher than those in rodents (0.45%; 95% CI 0.00-1.50%). Other animals, such as rabbits, hedgehogs and birds, also played significant roles in SFTSV transmission. The genus Haemaphysalis was the primary transmission vector, with members of Ixodes, Dermacentor, and Amblyomma also identified as potential vectors. The highest pooled prevalence was observed in adult ticks (1.03%; 95% CI 0.35-1.96%), followed by nymphs (0.66%; 95% CI 0.11-1.50%) and larvae (0.01%; 95% CI 0.00-0.46%). The pooled prevalence in ticks collected from endemic areas (1.86%; 95% CI 0.86-3.14%) was higher than that in ticks collected in other regions (0.41%; 95% CI 0.12-0.81%). CONCLUSIONS: Latent SFTSV infections are present in healthy individuals residing in endemic areas, and close contacts with SFTS cases are at a significantly higher risk of infection. The type of animal is linked to infection rates in vertebrate hosts, while infection rates in ticks are associated with the developmental stage. Further research is needed to investigate the impact of various environmental factors on SFTSV prevalence in vertebrate hosts and ticks.
