ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the current status of first aid knowledge among middle-aged and elderly residents aged 50 and above in a community in Shanghai, in order to provide reference for improving the self-rescue and mutual aid capabilities of middle-aged and elderly residents. MethodsA multi-stage stratified random sampling method was used to conduct a survey on 335 residents aged 50 and above in a community in Shanghai using a self-made survey questionnaire. The current situation and related factors of emergency knowledge level of residents aged 50 and above in the community were comprehensively analyzed. ResultsFirst aid knowledge level of 335 residents aged 50 and above was low, and the rate of high cognitive level was only 24.18%. Univariate analysis showed that male residents had a higher awareness rate than female residents (P=0.044), while residents aged 70 and above and 60‒ had lower awareness rates than residents aged 50‒ (P<0.05). Residents with chronic diseases had a higher awareness rate than those who did not (P=0.031). Residents with family members suffering from chronic diseases had a higher awareness rate than those without (P<0.001). Experience of first aid training affected residents’ awareness of first aid (P=0.003). ConclusionThe level of first aid knowledge among middle-aged and elderly residents aged 50 and above in the community is low. Age, the presence of chronic diseases in family members, and emergency training are independent and relevant factors that affect the awareness of first aid knowledge among middle-aged and elderly residents. The government and relevant institutions should explore the establishment of a standardized emergency response training system, implement classification and grading for middle-aged and elderly groups with different characteristics, and provide targeted emergency training to strengthen their self-rescue and mutual aid capabilities and improve the success rate of pre-hospital emergency care.

ABSTRACT

Closed-loop transcranial ultrasound stimulation technology is based on real-time feedback signals, and has the potential for precise regulation of neural activity. In this paper, firstly the local field potential (LFP) and electromyogram (EMG) signals of mice under different intensities of ultrasound stimulation were recorded, then the mathematical model of ultrasound intensity and mouse LFP peak/EMG mean was established offline based on the data, and the closed-loop control system of LFP peak and EMG mean based on PID neural network control algorithm was simulated and built to realize closed-loop control of LFP peak and EMG mean of mice. In addition, using the generalized minimum variance control algorithm, the closed-loop control of theta oscillation power was realized. There was no significant difference between the LFP peak, EMG mean and theta power under closed-loop ultrasound control and the given value, indicating a significant control effect on the LFP peak, EMG mean and theta power of mice. Transcranial ultrasound stimulation based on closed-loop control algorithms provides a direct tool for precise modulation of electrophysiological signals in mice.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the value of remote consultation of heart sound acquisition in screening and referral of neonates with congenital heart diseases (CHD) in primary hospitals. MethodsA total of 4 030 neonates with non-critical diseases were selected. They were born in Shanghai Pudong New Area Maternal and Child Health Hospital from November 5, 2019 to March 31, 2021. After birth, routine cardiac auscultation was performed and remote consultation of heart sound collection were performed at the same time in combination with percutaneous oxygen saturation measurement to screen CHD. The children with any positive screening index were advised to verify the diagnosis by cardiac ultrasound examination in Shanghai Children's Medical Center. The diagnostic value of different screening methods was compared. ResultsA total of 110 cases were detected positive by routine screening. Among them, 16 cases were lost to follow-up, and 46 cases were confirmed by cardiac ultrasound examination, with a positive diagnosis rate of 48.94% (46/94). A total of 51 cases were detected positive by routine screening and remote consultation of heart sound collection simultaneously. Among them, 42 cases were confirmed by cardiac ultrasound examination, with a positive diagnosis rate of 82.35% (42/51). The difference between the two positive diagnosis rates was statistically significant (P<0.001). ConclusionRemote consultation of heart sound acquisition on the basis of routine neonatal CHD screening can effectively improve the positive diagnosis rate of CHD screening in primary hospitals, and reduce unnecessary referrals. This method is simple and feasible. It has practical value in primary hospitals that lack professional technicians for the diagnosis and treatment of CHD.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: White syndrome, a term for scleractinian coral disease with progressive tissue loss, is known to cause depressed growth and increased morality of coral reefs in the major oceans around the world, and the occurrence of this disease has been frequently reported in the past few decades. Investigations during April to September in both 2010 and 2011 identified widespread Porites andrewsi White syndrome (PAWS) in Xisha Archipelago, South China Sea. However, the causes and etiology of PAWS have been unknown. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: A transmission experiment was performed on P. andrewsi in the Qilianyu Subgroup (QLY). The results showed that there was a significant (P ≤ 0.05) difference between test and control groups after 28 days if the invalid replicates were excluded. Rates of tissue loss ranged from 0.90-10.76 cm(2) d(-1) with a mean of 5.40 ± 3.34 cm(2) d(-1) (mean ± SD). Bacterial strains were isolated from the PAWS corals at the disease outbreak sites in QLY of the Xisha Archipelago, South China Sea, and included in laboratory-based infection trials to satisfy Koch's postulates for establishing causality. Following exposure to bacterial concentrations of 10(5) cells mL(-1), the infected colonies exhibited similar signs to those observed in the field. Using phylogenetic 16S rRNA gene analysis, classical phenotypic trait comparison, Biolog automatic identification system, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and MALDI Biotyper method, two pathogenic strains were identified as Vibrio alginolyticus . CONCLUSION/SIGNIFICANCE: This is the first report of V. alginolyticus as a pathogenic agent of PAWS in the South China Sea. Our results point out an urgent need to develop sensitive detection methods for V. alginolyticus virulence strains and robust diagnostics for coral disease caused by this and Vibrio pathogenic bacterium in the South China Sea.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the influence factors of operative effect in complex acetabular fracture. MethodsSixty-seven patients with complex acetabular fractures were selected. All patients were used surgical treatment, the clinical curative effect by Merle d'Aubigne-Postel hip scoring function to evaluate, set the age, sex, operation time, operative approach, the quality of fracture reduction, complex dislocation of the hip fracture and type of complex acetabular fractures with comparative index, the results were statistically analyzed. ResultsPatients were followed up for 6-24 months, the mean time was 14.6 months. Univariate analysis showed that the fine efficacy of surgery taken in no more than 2 weeks [84.0% (42/50)]was better than more than 2 weeks [64.7% ( 11/17 )](P < 0.05 ). The high-quality of reduction [86.4% ( 19/22 )]was better than low-quality of reduction [44.4% (4/9)] (P < 0.01 ). The compare of age, sex, operative approach, complex dislocation of the hip fracture were no statistically different (P >0.05).Complex acetabular fractures of T-shaped fracture healing rate was 85.7% (12/14),the excellent rate was significantly higher than posterior column with posterior wall fractures[77.8% (7/9)],transverse with posterior wall fractures [75.0% (15/20)], anterior column with half of transverse fractures [66.7% (2/3)],double-column fractures[71.4% (15/21)],the results were statistically different. Conclusion The necessary conditions for ensuring fracture prognosis is the quality of reduction, timing of surgery, and type of fracture.
