ABSTRACT

Floroniahuishuiensis Zhou & Xu, sp. nov. (♂♀) is the first species in the genus Floronia to be described from Baiyan Cave in Guizhou Province, China. The new species is similar to F.zhejiangensis Zhu, Chen & Sha, 1987 but differs in structural details of the genital organs, primarily by the presence of a well-developed retrolateral tibial apophysis, a hook-shaped distal end of the radix in the male palp, and the rectangular posterior median plate in the epigyne. The illustration of copulatory organs of F.bucculenta (Clerck, 1757) and F.zhejiangensis Zhu, Chen & Sha, 1987 were reproduced here for comparison. A detailed description, photographs of the habitus and copulatory organs of the new species and a distribution map is provided.

ABSTRACT

The relationship of DNA methylation and sex-biased gene expression is of high interest, it allows research into mechanisms of sexual dimorphism and the development of potential novel strategies for insect pest control. The Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, is a major vector for the causative agents of Huanglongbing (HLB), which presents an unparalleled challenge to citrus production worldwide. Here, we identify the X chromosome of D. citri and investigate differences in the transcription and DNA methylation landscapes between adult virgin males and females. We find a large number of male-biased genes on the autosomes and a depletion of such on the X chromosome. We have also characterized the methylome of D. citri, finding low genome-wide levels, which is unusual for an hemipteran species, as well as evidence for both promoter and TE methylation. Overall, DNA methylation profiles are similar between the sexes but with a small number of differentially methylated genes found to be involved in sex differentiation. There also appears to be no direct relationship between differential DNA methylation and differential gene expression. Our findings lay the groundwork for the development of novel epigenetic-based pest control methods, and given the similarity of the D. citri methylome to some other insect species, these methods could be applicable across agricultural insect pests.

ABSTRACT

Background: Troglocoelotes Zhao & S. Li, 2019 is the only known genus of Coelotinae of which all species have deep morphological adaptations to the subterranean environment, such as depigmentation of body, degenerated or absent eyes and, frequently, with attenuated bodies and/or appendages. Four species of Troglocoelotes have been reported from Guizhou Province, China. New information: A new funnel-web spider of the genus Troglocoelotes is described and illustrated on the basis of a single female specimen from Tongren City, Guizhou: Troglocoelotessinanensis sp. nov. Additionally, photos of the collection site and a distribution map are also provided.

ABSTRACT

Denisiphantes arcuatus sp. nov. (♂♀) is described from Yunnan, China. Detailed descriptions of somatic features, genitalic characters, photos of habitus of the new species as well as of copulatory organs of Denisiphantes denisi (Schenkel, 1963) (♂♀) are presented. A distribution map is also provided.

ABSTRACT

Four new species of the genus Cicurina are described: C. daweishanensis spec. nov. (female), C. kekei spec. nov. (male and female), C. lichuanensis spec. nov. (male and female) and C. yuelushanensis spec. nov. (male and female). Photos of body and copulatory organs, line drawings of copulatory organs, as well as the locality map are provided. The type specimens of Cicurina eburnata Wang, 1994 were reexamined for the comparison of allied species. Photos of C. calyciforma Wang Xu, 1989 are also presented in order to compare it with two new species.

ABSTRACT

Clubiona Latreille, 1804 comprises 503 species across the world, of which 122 species were reported from China. Nearly one-third of Chinese species have been described with single-sex (World Spider Catalog, 2018). Twenty-eight species have been reported from Guizhou Province (Wang et al. 2015; Wu et al. 2015; Li Lin 2016; Yu et al. 2017; Wang et al. 2018; Zhang et al. 2018).

ABSTRACT

A new Linyphiinae genus Zhezhoulinyphia gen. nov. from Yunnan Province is described together with its two new species: Z.caperata sp. nov. (♂) and Z.denticulata sp. nov. (♂, ♀). Centromerusyadongensis Hu & Li, 1987 is transferred to Zhezhoulinyphia gen. nov. and a new combination, Z.yadongensis (Hu & Li, 1987), comb. nov. is proposed.

ABSTRACT

Two new cavernicolous pselaphines, Araneibatrus curvitibialis Yin and Zhou, sp. n. and Tribasodites biyun Yin and Zhou, sp. n., are described from southern China, with diagnostic characters illustrated. Both new species can be readily distinguished from their respective congeners by the male dimorphic features on the antennae, legs, and (or) metaventrite, as well as by the configurations of the aedeagi.
