ABSTRACT

The study investigated the health care workers' knowledge, attitudes, and practice levels regarding occupational protection against antineoplastic drugs (ADs) via analysis of latent classes and their influencing factors. A convenience sampling method was used to select healthcare workers from 7 hospitals in southern China between April and August 2023. A questionnaire based on literature analysis, brainstorming, and Delphi method was used to investigate the knowledge, practice, and attitudes of healthcare workers exposed to ADs for appropriate occupational protection intervention, followed by latent class analysis. The factors influencing latent classes were identified via single-factor analysis and multiple logistic regression. A total of 322 healthcare workers from departments using ADs were surveyed. The knowledge score associated with occupational protection against ADs was 31.95 ±â€…7.38. The attitude score was 21.08 ±â€…2.729, while the practice score was 36.54 ±â€…9.485. The overall score was 89.57 ±â€…15.497. The healthcare workers were divided into 4 latent classes based on their knowledge, attitude, and practice associated with occupational protection measures against ADs. Healthcare workers in the 4 categories showed significance differences based on professional title, marital status, educational background, and frequency of exposure to ADs (P < .05). The knowledge, attitude, and practice levels of healthcare workers engaged in ADs at work can be divided into 4 latent classes. Despite their increased awareness of the hazards associated with ADs and their attitudes toward protection, the healthcare workers displayed poor knowledge and implementation of occupational protection measures.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Tibial cortex transverse transport (TTT) surgery has become an ideal treatment for patients with type 2 severe diabetic foot ulcerations (DFUs) while conventional treatments are ineffective. Based on our clinical practice experience, the protective immune response from TTT surgery may play a role against infections to promote wound healing in patients with DFUs. Therefore, this research aimed to systematically study the specific clinical efficacy and the mechanism of TTT surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between June 2022 and September 2023, 68 patients with type 2 severe DFUs were enrolled and therapized by TTT surgery in this cross-sectional and experimental study. Major clinical outcomes including limb salvage rate and antibiotics usage rate were investigated. Ten clinical characteristics and laboratory features of glucose metabolism and kidney function were statistically analyzed. Blood samples from 6 key time points of TTT surgery were collected for label-free proteomics and clinical immune biomarker analysis. Besides, tissue samples from 3 key time points were for spatially resolved metabolomics and transcriptomics analysis, as well as applied to validate the key TTT-regulated molecules by RT-qPCR. RESULTS: Notably, 64.7% of patients did not use antibiotics during the entire TTT surgery. TTT surgery can achieve a high limb salvage rate of 92.6% in patients with unilateral or bilateral DFUs. Pathway analysis of a total of 252 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) from the proteomic revealed that the immune response induced by TTT surgery at different stages was first comprehensively verified through multi-omics combined with immune biomarker analysis. The function of upward transport was activating the systemic immune response, and wound healing occurs with downward transport. The spatial metabolic characteristics of skin tissue from patients with DFUs indicated downregulated levels of stearoylcarnitine and the glycerophospholipid metabolism pathway in skin tissue from patients with severe DFUs. Finally, the expressions of PRNP (prion protein) to activate the immune response, PLCB3 (PLCB3, phospholipase C beta 3) and VE-cadherin to play roles in neovascularization, and PPDPF (pancreatic progenitor cell differentiation and proliferation factor), LAMC2 (laminin subunit gamma 2) and SPRR2G (small proline rich protein 2G) to facilitate the developmental process mainly keratinocyte differentiation were statistically significant in skin tissues through transcriptomic and RT-qPCR analysis. CONCLUSION: Tibial cortex transverse transport (TTT) surgery demonstrates favorable outcomes for patients with severe type 2 DFUs by activating a systemic immune response, contributing to anti-infection, ulcer recurrence, and the limb salvage rate for unilateral or bilateral DFUs. The specific clinical immune responses, candidate proteins, genes, and metabolic characteristics provide directions for in-depth mechanistic research on TTT surgery. Further research and public awareness are needed to optimize TTT surgery in patients with severe type 2 DFUs.

ABSTRACT

Background: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is an effective noninvasive neuromodulation technique for Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the efficacy of rTMS varies widely between individuals. This study aimed to investigate the factors related to the response to rTMS in PD patients. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the response of 70 idiopathic PD patients who underwent rTMS for 14 consecutive days targeting the supplementary motor area (SMA) in either an open-label trail (n = 31) or a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (RCT) (n = 39). The motor symptoms of PD patients were assessed by the United Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III (UPDRSIII). Based on previous studies, the UPDRSIII were divided into six symptom clusters: axial dysfunction, resting tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia affecting right and left extremities, and postural tremor. Subsequently, the efficacy of rTMS to different motor symptom clusters and clinical predictors were analyzed in these two trails. Results: After 14 days of treatment, only the total UPDRSIII scores and rigidity scores improved in both the open-label trial and the RCT. The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicated that baseline rigidity scores (ß = 0.37, p = 0.047) and RMT (ß = 0.30, P = 0.02) positively predicted the improvement of UPDRSIII. The baseline rigidity score (ß = 0.55, P < 0.0001) was identified as an independent factor to predict the improvement of rigidity. Conclusion: This study demonstrated significant improvements in total UPDRSIII scores and rigidity after 14-day treatment, with baseline rigidity scores and RMT identified as predictors of treatment response, underscoring the need for individualized therapy.

Soft tissue integration around titanium (Ti) implants is weaker than that around natural teeth, compromising long-term success of Ti implants. Carbon monoxide (CO) possesses distinctive therapeutic properties, rendering it as a highly promising candidate for enhancing STI. However, achieving controlled CO generation at the STI interface remains challenging. Herein, a controlled CO-releasing dual-function coating was constructed on Ti surfaces. Under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, the designed surface could actively accelerate CO generation for antibiosis against both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. More importantly, in the absence of NIR, the slow release of CO induces macrophage polarization from pro-inflammatory phenotype towards pro-regenerative phenotype. In a rat implantation model with induced infection, the designed surface effectively controlled the bacterial infection, alleviates accompanying inflammation and modulated immune microenvironment, leading to enhanced STI. Single-cell sequencing revealed that the coating alters the cytokine profile within the soft tissue, thereby influencing cellular functions. Differentially expressed genes in macrophages are highly enriched in the PIK3-Akt pathway. Furthermore, the cellular communication between fibroblasts and macrophages was significantly enhanced through the CXCL12/CXCL14/CXCR4 and CSF1-CSF1R ligand-receptor pair. These findings indicate that our coating showed an appealing prospect for enhancing STI around Ti implants, which would ultimately contribute to the improved long-term success of Ti implants.

Complement factor H-related protein (CFHR) plays an important role in regulating complement activation and defensive responses. The function of CFHR2 (complement factor H related 2), a member of the CFHR family, in fish remains unclear. Here, we report the genetic relationship, expression characteristics and regulatory mechanism of cfhl5 (complement factor H like 5) gene, which encodes CFHR2 in Chinese tongue sole. We observed that the cfhl5 gene was widely expressed in several tissues, such as brain, heart and immune organs, and was most abundantly expressed in liver. After injection with Vibrio harveyi, the expression of cfhl5 was up-regulated significantly in liver, spleen and kidney at 12 or 24 hours post infection (hpi), suggesting an involvement of this gene in the acute immune response. Knockdown of cfhl5 in liver cells significantly up-regulated the expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tnf-α (tumor necrosis factor-alpha) and il1ß (interleukin-1beta), the immunomodulatory factor il10 (interleukin-10) and the lectin complement pathway gene masp1 (MBL-associated serine protease 1), and down-regulated the expression of complement components c3 (complement 3) and cfi (complement factor I). In our previous work, we found that cfhl5 gene was significantly higher methylated and lower expressed in the resistant family compared with the susceptible family. Therefore, we used dual-luciferase reporter system to determine the effect of DNA methylation on this gene and found that DNA methylation could inhibit the promoter activity to reduce its expression. These results demonstrated that the expression of cfhl5 is regulated by DNA methylation, and this gene might play an important role in the immune response by regulating the expression of cytokines and complement components genes in Chinese tongue sole.

INTRODUCTION: Comparative studies on surgical treatments with time-to-event endpoints have provided substantial evidence for clinical practice, but the accurate use of survival data analysis and the control of confounding bias remain big challenges. METHODS: This was a survey of surgical studies with survival outcomes published in four general medical journals and five general surgical journals in 2021. The two most concerned statistical issues were evaluated, including confounding control by propensity score analysis (PSA) or multivariable analysis and testing of proportional hazards (PH) assumption in Cox model. RESULTS: A total of 74 studies were included, comprising 63 observational studies and 11 randomized controlled trials. Among the observational studies, the proportion of studies utilizing PSA in surgical oncology and non-oncology studies was similar (40.9 % versus 36.8 %, P = 0.762). However, the former reported a significantly lower proportion of PH assumption assessments compared to the latter (13.6 % versus 42.1 %, P = 0.020). Twenty-five observational studies (25/63) used PSA methods, but two-thirds of them (17/25) showed unclear balance of baseline data after PSA. And the proportion of PH assumption testing after PSA was slightly lower than that before PSA, but the difference was not statistically significant (24.0 % versus 28.0 %, P = 0.317). Comprehensive suggestions were given on confounding control in survival analysis and alternative resolutions for non-compliance with PH assumption. CONCLUSION: This study highlights suboptimal reporting of PH assumption evaluation in observational surgical studies both before and after PSA. Efforts and consensus are needed with respect to the underlying assumptions of statistical methods.

It is known that selenium (Se) enhances plant growth and arsenic (As) accumulation in As-hyperaccumulator Pteris vittata, but the associated mechanisms are unclear. In this study, P. vittata was exposed to 50 µM arsenate (AsV) under hydroponics plus 25 or 50 µM foliar selenate. After 3-weeks of growth, the plant biomass, As and Se contents, As speciation, malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH and GSSG) levels, and important genes related to As-metabolism in P. vittata were determined. Foliar-Se increased plant biomass by 17 - 30 %, possibly due to 9.1 - 19 % reduction in MDA content compared to the As control. Further, foliar-Se enhanced the As contents by 1.9-3.5 folds and increased arsenite (AsIII) contents by 64 - 136 % in the fronds. The increased AsV reduction to AsIII was attributed to 60 - 131 % increase in glutathione peroxidase activity, which mediates GSH oxidation to GSSG (8.8 -29 % increase) in the fronds. Further, foliar-Se increased the expression of AsIII antiporters PvACR3;1-3;3 by 1.6 - 2.1 folds but had no impact on phosphate transporters PvPht1 or arsenate reductases PvHAC1/2. Our results indicate that foliar-Se effectively enhances plant growth and arsenic accumulation by promoting the GSH-GSSG cycle and upregulating gene expression of AsIII antiporters, which are responsible for AsIII translocation from the roots to fronds and AsIII sequestration into the fronds. The data indicate that foliar-Se can effectively improve phytoremediation efficiency of P. vittata in As-contaminated soils.

Objective: To develop and evaluate a nomogram prediction model for recurrence of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) within one year. Method: Patients with AIS treated at the second affiliated hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from August 2017 to July 2019 were enrolled. Clinical data such as demographic data, risk factors, laboratory tests, TOAST etiological types, MRI features, and treatment methods were collected. Cox regression analysis was done to determine the parameters for entering the nomogram model. The performance of the model was estimated by receiver operating characteristic curves, decision curve analysis, calibration curves, and C-index. Result: A total of 645 patients were enrolled in this study. Side of hemisphere (SOH, Bilateral, HR = 0.35, 95 % CI = 0.15-0.84, p = 0.018), homocysteine (HCY, HR = 1.38, 95 % CI = 1.29-1.47, p < 0.001), c-reactive protein (CRP, HR = 1.04, 95 % CI = 1.01-1.07, p = 0.013) and stroke severity (SS, HR = 3.66, 95 % CI = 2.04-6.57, p < 0.001) were independent risk factors. The C-index of the nomogram model was 0.872 (se = 0.016). The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC)curve at one-year recurrence was 0.900. Calibration curve, decision curve analysis showed good performance of the nomogram. The cutoff value for low or high risk of recurrence score was 1.73. Conclusion: The nomogram model for stroke recurrence within one year developed in this study performed well. This useful tool can be used in clinical practice to provide important guidance to healthcare professionals.

In this paper, we present a high-precision optical frequency noise detection and comparison technique using a two-way transfer method over a 260 km field fiber link. This method allows for the comparison of optical frequencies between remote optical references without the need for data transfer through communication. We extend a previously established two-way comparison technique to obtain all data at the local site. Two optical carrier signals are injected into the bidirectional fiber from both ends, and one carrier is reflected back from the remote end. This enables the phase comparison of the two carrier signals at a single site without the need to transmit experimental data. The common-mode frequency noise induced by the bidirectional fiber link is detected and effectively suppressed without the need for sophisticated active fiber noise control. Our demonstration system, which uses a 260 km field fiber link and a common laser source, achieves a fractional instability of 2.5×10-17 at 1 s averaging time and scales down to 3.5×10-21 at 8000 s. This scheme offers the distinct advantage of completing the comparison at a single site, eliminating the need for remote data transfer via communication. This method is expected to enhance reliability for high-precision frequency comparisons between remote optical clocks and advanced atomic clocks.

The effective iodine-131 (I-131) half-life (EHL) plays an important role in the evaluation of radioactive iodine therapy for Graves' disease (GD) patients. It has been observed that the EHL of GD patients varies after taking lithium carbonate. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether EHL can be extended and to identify the predictive factors associated with this outcome. The clinical data of 225 GD patients were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups based on whether the ΔEHL was ≥ 0.5 days. EHL tested after lithium carbonate was defined as Li-EHL. In the univariate analysis, age, sex, thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb), thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), and baseline-EHL exhibited significant differences between the two groups (P < 0.05). Cutoff values of age and baseline-EHL to predict significant EHL extension were 40.5 years and 4.85 days, respectively, as determined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Multiple linear regression analysis further revealed that the regression equation, which included age, sex, baseline-EHL, and the FT3, free triiodothyronine (FT4)/free thyroxine(FT3) ratio, was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Li-EHL positively correlated with baseline-EHL and the FT4/FT3 ratio, but negatively correlated with age. Li-EHL was also increased in female individuals. In conclusion, age, sex, baseline-EHL and the FT4/FT3 ratio were associated with Li-EHL in GD patients.

ABSTRACT

Wearable devices are lightweight and portable devices worn directly on the body or integrated into the user's clothing or accessories. They are usually connected to the Internet and combined with various software applications to monitor the user's physical conditions. The latest research shows that wearable head devices, particularly those incorporating microfluidic technology, enable the monitoring of bodily fluids and physiological states. Here, we summarize the main forms, functions, and applications of head wearable devices through innovative researches in recent years. The main functions of wearable head devices are sensor monitoring, diagnosis, and even therapeutic interventions. Through this application, real-time monitoring of human physiological conditions and noninvasive treatment can be realized. Furthermore, microfluidics can realize real-time monitoring of body fluids and skin interstitial fluid, which is highly significant in medical diagnosis and has broad medical application prospects. However, despite the progress made, significant challenges persist in the integration of microfluidics into wearable devices at the current technological level. Herein, we focus on summarizing the cutting-edge applications of microfluidic contact lenses and offer insights into the burgeoning intersection between microfluidics and head-worn wearables, providing a glimpse into their future prospects.

ABSTRACT

Four new p-terphenyl derivatives, talaroterphenyls A-D (1-4), together with three biosynthetically related known ones (5-7), were obtained from the mangrove sediment-derived Talaromyces sp. SCSIO 41412. Compounds 1-3 are rare p-terphenyls, which are completely substituted on the central benzene ring by oxygen atoms; this is the first report of their isolation from natural sources. Their structures were elucidated through NMR spectroscopy, HRESIMS, and X-ray diffraction. Genome sequence analysis revealed that 1-7 were biosynthesized from tyrosine and phenylalanine, involving four key biosynthetic genes (ttpB-ttpE). These p-terphenyls (1-7) and 36 marine-derived terphenyl analogues (8-43) were screened for phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitory activities, and 1-5, 14, 17, 23, and 26 showed notable activities with IC50 values of 0.40-16 µM. The binding pattern of p-terphenyl inhibitors 1-3 with PDE4 were explored by molecular docking analysis. Talaroterphenyl A (1), with a low cytotoxicity, showed obvious anti-inflammatory activity in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, in the TGF-ß1-induced medical research council cell strain-5 (MRC-5) pulmonary fibrosis model, 1 could down-regulate the expression levels of FN1, COL1, and α-SMA significantly at concentrations of 5-20 µM. This study suggests that the oxidized p-terphenyl 1, as a marine-derived PDE4 inhibitor, could be used as a promising antifibrotic agent.

ABSTRACT

The current generation of wearable sensors often experiences signal interference and external corrosion, leading to device degradation and failure. To address these challenges, the biomimetic superhydrophobic approach has been developed, which offers self-cleaning, low adhesion, corrosion resistance, anti-interference, and other properties. Such surfaces possess hierarchical nanostructures and low surface energy, resulting in a smaller contact area with the skin or external environment. Liquid droplets can even become suspended outside the flexible electronics, reducing the risk of pollution and signal interference, which contributes to the long-term stability of the device in complex environments. Additionally, the coupling of superhydrophobic surfaces and flexible electronics can potentially enhance the device performance due to their large specific surface area and low surface energy. However, the fragility of layered textures in various scenarios and the lack of standardized evaluation and testing methods limit the industrial production of superhydrophobic wearable sensors. This review provides an overview of recent research on superhydrophobic flexible wearable sensors, including the fabrication methodology, evaluation, and specific application targets. The processing, performance, and characteristics of superhydrophobic surfaces are discussed, as well as the working mechanisms and potential challenges of superhydrophobic flexible electronics. Moreover, evaluation strategies for application-oriented superhydrophobic surfaces are presented.

ABSTRACT

Naturally occurring (native) sugars and carbohydrates contain numerous hydroxyl groups of similar reactivity1,2. Chemists, therefore, rely typically on laborious, multi-step protecting-group strategies3 to convert these renewable feedstocks into reagents (glycosyl donors) to make glycans. The direct transformation of native sugars to complex saccharides remains a notable challenge. Here we describe a photoinduced approach to achieve site- and stereoselective chemical glycosylation from widely available native sugar building blocks, which through homolytic (one-electron) chemistry bypasses unnecessary hydroxyl group masking and manipulation. This process is reminiscent of nature in its regiocontrolled generation of a transient glycosyl donor, followed by radical-based cross-coupling with electrophiles on activation with light. Through selective anomeric functionalization of mono- and oligosaccharides, this protecting-group-free 'cap and glycosylate' approach offers straightforward access to a wide array of metabolically robust glycosyl compounds. Owing to its biocompatibility, the method was extended to the direct post-translational glycosylation of proteins.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to synthesize a specific type of polycarbonate with high refractive index, low birefringence, and resistance to hygrothermal aging by copolymerizing 2,2'-bis(2-hydroxyethoxy)-1,1'-binaphthyl (BNE) with 9,9-bis[4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl]fluorene (BPEF). Comparative analysis revealed that the copolymer synthesized from BNE and BPEF demonstrated superior hydrolytic stability relative to the bisphenol A-based polycarbonate. This augmented stability can be attributed to the monomers' higher pKa values, rendering acidic substances less capable of dissociating and thereby mitigating ester hydrolysis under hygrothermal conditions. Furthermore, the investigation probed into the phenomenon of physical aging in copolymerized polycarbonate when exposed to hygrothermal environments. It was discerned that the enthalpy loss, observable under both dry and hygrothermal conditions, could be linearly correlated with the difference between the aging temperature and the glass transition temperature (Tg), signifying a close correlation between the magnitude of physical aging and Tg. A lower Tg in the copolymerized polycarbonate led to more pronounced physical aging within the same timeframe, resulting in an augmentation of tensile strength and modulus, while higher Tg effectively mitigated the physical aging phenomenon.

BACKGROUND: Bilateral vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) has been associated with poor long-term prognosis, and research focusing exclusively on its effect on urinary bladder function is lacking. This study aims to assess the urodynamic characteristics of children with bilateral VUR and identify factors influencing renal function. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on children diagnosed with bilateral VUR who underwent urodynamic examination in the outpatient department of our institution from January 2019 to January 2023. All patients underwent comprehensive assessments, including voiding cystourethrography, urinary system ultrasound and urodynamic examination, to analyse the urodynamic features associated with different clinical characteristics. RESULTS: The study included 148 children with bilateral VUR, amongst whom 92 (62.2%) exhibited urodynamic abnormalities, including idiopathic detrusor overactivity (DO) in 30 cases (20.3%) and dysfunctional voiding (DV) in 58 cases (39.2%). DV was prevalent in children under 5 years of age, whereas idiopathic DO was predominantly observed in children older than 2 years of age. Children older than 5 years of age exhibited a trend towards reduced bladder volume, whereas those younger than 2 years of age often had increased bladder volume and residual urine. Multivariate analysis identified bilateral severe VUR as an independent risk factor for abnormal estimated glomerular filtration rate. CONCLUSIONS: DV tends to be more common in younger children with larger bladder volumes and increased residual urine than in older children. By contrast, older children are more susceptible to idiopathic DO associated with smaller bladder volumes than younger children. Bilateral severe reflux increases the likelihood of renal functional abnormalities, which appear to be a consequence of congenital scarring rather than abnormalities in bladder function.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Quality of life in patients with active Crohn's disease may be significantly reduced. We evaluated the effects of upadacitinib induction and maintenance therapy on fatigue, quality of life, and work productivity in the phase 3 trials U-EXCEL, U-EXCEED, and U-ENDURE. METHODS: Clinical responders to upadacitinib 45 mg in U-EXCEL and U-EXCEED induction trials were re-randomized 1:1:1 to upadacitinib 30 mg, 15 mg, or placebo for 52 weeks of maintenance in U-ENDURE. Clinically meaningful improvements in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) response, IBDQ remission, Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-Fatigue), and Work Productivity and Activity Impairment were evaluated. Percentages of patients achieving clinically meaningful improvements were assessed at induction Weeks 4 and 12 and maintenance Week 52. RESULTS: Analysis included 1021 and 502 patients assessed at induction and maintenance, respectively. In U-EXCEL, greater improvements (all p≤0.001) in IBDQ response (71.0% vs 50.2%), IBDQ remission (44.2% vs 23.7%), and FACIT-Fatigue (42.0% vs 27.0%) were observed in upadacitinib-treated patients versus placebo at Week 4. Improvements in IBDQ response, IBDQ remission, and FACIT-Fatigue were similar or greater at Week 12. Clinically meaningful improvement in overall work impairment (52.1% vs 38.1%, p≤0.05) was demonstrated at Week 12. Similar results were observed in U-EXCEED. Improvements were sustained through 52 weeks of upadacitinib maintenance treatment. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with active Crohn's disease, upadacitinib treatment relative to placebo significantly improved fatigue, quality of life, and work productivity as early as Week 4. These effects were sustained through 52 weeks of maintenance.

ABSTRACT

With the continuous advancement of precision machining technology and the growing demand for products, increasingly complex objects with high reflectivity are becoming more prevalent in production and daily life. phase measurement deflectometry (PMD) is a technique that utilizes a surface light source to project structured light for comprehensive detection of highly reflective surfaces. It offers advantages such as high accuracy, fast speed, low cost, and non-contact operation. However, when the surface of the object being measured has varying levels of reflectivity, this method may produce errors due to significant differences in fringe contrast between different reflective areas. In order to enable the fringe deflection system to simultaneously detect multiple reflective objects without sacrificing accuracy, this paper proposes an adaptive method for fringe generation detection. This method can adaptively adjust the intensity based on the reflectivity of the measured surface and compensate for the light at the reflectivity boundary, ultimately achieving phase calculation for multiple reflective surfaces.

ABSTRACT

Herein, a multifunctional nanohybrid (PL@HPFTM nanoparticles) was fabricated to perform the integration of chemodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, and biological therapy over the long term at a designed location for continuous antibacterial applications. The PL@HPFTM nanoparticles consisted of a polydopamine/hemoglobin/Fe2+ nanocomplex with comodification of tetrazole/alkene groups on the surface as well as coloading of antimicrobial peptides and luminol in the core. During therapy, the PL@HPFTM nanoparticles would selectively cross-link to surrounding bacteria via tetrazole/alkene cycloaddition under chemiluminescence produced by the reaction between luminol and overexpressed H2O2 at the infected area. The resulting PL@HPFTM network not only significantly damaged bacteria by Fe2+-catalyzed ROS production, effective photothermal conversion, and sustained release of antimicrobial peptides but dramatically enhanced the retention time of these therapeutic agents for prolonged antibacterial therapy. Both in vitro and in vivo results have shown that our PL@HPFTM nanoparticles have much higher bactericidal efficiency and remarkably longer periods of validity than free antibacterial nanoparticles.
