ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the upper limit of the normal value of arsenic in healthy adult population in different areas of Guangxi. Methods: From 2015 to 2016, 1533 subjects from 14 counties and cities in Guangxi were collected by age, gender, stratified random sampling and questionnaire survey. 1417 urine samples with satisfactory urine quality and complete information were collected. The content of arsenic in urine was determined by atomic fluorescence spectrometry. Results: The upper limit of normal arsenic in healthy adults in guangxi was 0.053 mg/L. Male urinary arsenicP(50)(0.011mg/L)was higher than that of the female(0.008mg/L), the difference was statistically significant(Z=5.352,P<0.01). Smoking urinary arsenicP(50)(0.012mg/L) was higher than that of nonsmokers(0.009mg/L), the difference was statistically significant(Z=3.404,P<0.01). GroupP(5)0 urine arsenic in coastal areas(0.012mg/L) the crowd was higher than that in non coastal areas(0.009mg/L), the difference was statistically significant(Z=-7.522,P<0.01). Conclusion: The upper limit of normal arsenic in healthy adults in Guangxi area is 0.053mg/L,and there are differences in the levels of arsenic in healthy adults, such as different genders and regions.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes among three kinds of transforaminal interbody fusion technique in the treatment of single segment lumbar degenerative disease. Methods: From October 2012 to November 2014, a total of 67 cases of lumbar degenerative disease of single segment underwent surgical intervention were retrospectively analyzed, including 19 cases by mis- transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(TLIF), 25 cases by mini-open TLIF and 23 cases by open TLIF.Blood loss, surgical time, fluoroscopy time and hospital costs were recorded.Pre- and postoperative back pain was assessed with visual analogue scale (VAS), and lumbar function was evaluated with Oswestry disability index (ODI). Results: mis-TLIF group need more surgical time, fluoroscopy time and more hospital costs when compared to mini-open TLIF group and open TLIF group (P<0.05), but no significant difference between mini-open TLIF group and open TLIF group (P>0.05). mis-TLIF group tended to lose less blood than mini-open TLIF group(P<0.05), and mini-open TLIF group lose less blood than open TLIF group (P<0.05). There is no significant difference of the change of ODI among three groups (P>0.05). mis-TLIF group and mini-open TLIF group was superior to open TLIF group in VAS of the second day postoperative [(3.2±1.6) scale, (3.4±1.5) scale vs(5.8±1.4)scale](P<0.05). Conclusion: mis-TLIF, mini-open TLIF and open TLIF can all get satisfactory clinical outcomes in the treatment of single segment lumbar degenerative disease.mis-TLIF and mini-open TLIF was superior to open TLIF in blood loss, early postoperative recovery.Compared with mis-TLIF, mini-open TLIF reduce the fluoroscopy time and hospital costs, and also has a shorter learning curve.

ABSTRACT

Aberrantly expressed microRNAs (miRNAs) are frequently correlated with a variety of human cancers, including clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). In this study, we determined the expression patterns of miR-217 in ccRCC, and tested its effect on cancer cell proliferation and migration. The expression levels of miR-217 were determined in 54 ccRCC samples using Real-Time qPCR. 786-O and ACHN cells were transfected with miR-217 mimics or miRNA mimics control. Cell proliferation and migration were evaluated by MTT assay and scratch-wound assay, respectively. We found that miR-217 was down-regulated in ccRCC compared to paired normal tissue. Lower miR-217 expression levels were associated with higher tumor grade and stage. All patients with high miR-217 expression survived 5 years, while with low miR-217 expression, only 40% survived. Cell proliferation inhibition and decreased motility were observed in cells transfected with the miR-217 mimics. In conclusion, miR-217 plays a tumor suppressor role in ccRCC.

ABSTRACT

An investigation of the reductive effect of blood pressure and increment of urinary sodium excretion with calcium and potassium supplementation in children with sodium sensitivity is conducted. In total of 261 school children who had completed a 2-year double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial with calcium and potassium supplementation salt sensitivity, with a salt volume expansion and contraction protocol, was determined. The results showed that in children with salt sensitivity, the increase in blood pressure in the supplementary group was lower by 4.3/4.8 mmHg than that in the placebo group (P<0.05), while no significant change was found between the supplementary group and placebo group in children with nonsalt sensitivity. With calcium and potassium supplementation, the night urinary sodium excretion in children with salt sensitivity was significantly increased (P<0.01), and it is negatively correlated with the increase in blood pressure. It was suggested that a moderate increase of calcium and potassium intake in children with salt sensitivity, through interaction with sodium, can promote urinary sodium excretion and may play contribute to the prevention of hypertension.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between modern medical detective method of imaging and Syndrome Differentiation of TCM. METHODS: Two hundred and sixteen biliary tract diseases patients were observed with color scale B-ultrasonography and fat meal tests. RESULTS: Eighty-four cases (38.89%) of damp-heat type in the Liver-gallbladder among the 216 patients had widened gallbladder, higher tension and weak bile echo-penetration through, 39 cases (18.06%) of type of Liver-Qi stagnation and Spleen deficiency had small transection, hypotension, slender type and low contraction rate, 13 cases (6.02%) of Blood-stasis type had small gallbladder volume and the contraction rate decrease significantly. There were 71 cases (32.87%) of Liver-Qi stagnation type and 9 cases (4.17%) of Liver Yin-Deficiency type, whose characters of the gallbladder were not prominent, so the identification of these cases depended largely on clinical differentiation. CONCLUSIONS: This study will facilitate the further extending the principle of inspection in the specific organs which may provide us with the objective basis for the differentiation of biliary tract diseases.
