ABSTRACT

Two Cd-based supramolecular coordination polymers, [Cd3(CzIP)3(DMF)2] (1) and [Cd2(CzIP)2(DMF)4] (2), were synthesized by using 5-(carbazol-9-yl) isophthalate (CzIP) as ligands. These two compounds exhibit multiple luminescence emissions; apart from fluorescence, time- and temperature-dependent ultralong phosphorescence (RTP) were also achieved under room conditions. Significantly, compound 1 has a long-lived afterglow of 0.93 s at 545 nm under ambient conditions. Compound 2 shows nearly pure white-light emission with CIE coordinates of (0.33, 0.33) via the dual emission of fluorescence and phosphorescence. It has come to our attention that it is the first example of a luminescent coordination polymer with single-phase white-light emission and color-evolution RTP. In addition, the long-lived RTP materials can be used in time-dependent anticounterfeiting and white-light-emitting diodes. Experimental and singlet and triplet state calculations indicate that both C-H···π interaction and inter- and intramolecular charge transfer interactions could be beneficial to the emission of ultralong RTP.

ABSTRACT

Phylogenetic relationsships of four nominal Lucanus Scopoli, 1763 species, L.swinhoei Parry, 1874, L.continentalis Zilioli, 1998, L.liuyei Huang & Chen, 2010, and L.wuyishanensis Schenk, 1999, are assessed based on mitochondrial (16S rDNA, COI) and nuclear (28S rDNA, Wingless) genes. The genetic distance is 0.0072 between L.swinhoei and L.continentalis, and 0.0094 between L.wuyishanensis and L.liuyei. Three species-delimitation approaches (ABGD, PTP, and GMYC) consistently showed L.swinhoei + L.continentalis and L.wuyishanensis + L.liuyei as two MOTUs. A new synonymy, L.liuyei = L.wuyishanensis, is proposed. Synonymy of L.swinhoei over L.continentalis is confirmed.

ABSTRACT

In this work, a versatile point-of-care assay platform based on a microfluidic paper-based analytic device (µPAD) was developed for the simultaneous detection of multiple targets. The µPAD with a central zone and six test zones is fabricated by a simple and inexpensive wax printing method. A flower-like hybrid nanocomplex synthesized with specific dual enzymes and Cu3(PO4)2 inorganic nanocrystals is spotted in the test zones on the µPAD, followed by the introduction of assay targets. Using dual-enzyme inorganic hybrid nanoflowers in the µPAD as nanobiocatalysts, which preserve the activity and enhance the stability of the enzymes, based on the H2O2-mediated catalytic oxidizing chromogenic reaction produced by glucose/uric acid, the developed multiplex paper-based nanobiocatalytic system is demonstrated to enable simultaneous and sensitive detection of glucose and uric acid with a detection limit of 60 and 25 µM, respectively. More importantly, it has been successfully used for detecting glucose and uric acid levels in human whole blood samples. The developed multiplex paper-based nanobiocatalytic system features very easy fabrication and operation, low cost, and high sensitivity and has promising prospects for a clinical multianalyte point-of-care test.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Angiographic coronary lesion complexity has been reported to predict plaque vulnerability. It is important to develop a noninvasive blood biomarker for accurate prognostication of angiographically complex lesions in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). HYPOTHESIS: Serum soluble lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (sLOX-1) levels may be correlated with coronary lesion complexity in patients with CAD. METHODS: We measured serum sLOX-1 levels in 180 consecutive patients undergoing coronary angiography for the evaluation of CAD. Coronary lesions were classified as simple or complex lesions based on coronary plaque morphology. RESULTS: Stable CAD patients with complex lesions (n=50) had significantly higher serum sLOX-1 levels than those with simple lesions (n=72), at 0.914 ng/mL (range, 0.489-1.296 ng/mL) vs 0.426 ng/mL (range, 0.195-1.075 ng/mL), respectively, P<0.01. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that sLOX-1 levels were independently associated with the presence of complex lesions in patients with stable CAD (odds ratio [OR]: 1.964, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.149-3.356, P<0.05). Among patients with acute coronary syndrome (n=58), who had significantly higher circulating sLOX-1 levels than stable CAD patients (n=122) at 1.610 ng/mL (range, 0.941-2.264 ng/mL) vs 0.579 ng/mL (range, 0.265-1.172 ng/mL), respectively, P<0.01, sLOX-1 levels were independently associated with the presence of multiple complex coronary lesions (OR: 1.967, 95% CI: 1.075-3.600, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Serum sLOX-1 levels were associated with complex lesions that might predict vulnerable plaques. This study suggested sLOX-1 might be a useful biomarker of coronary plaque vulnerability in patients with CAD.
