ABSTRACT

Structural and functional changes in the spleen and in the Payer plaques of the intestine under stress have been studied in 46 male rats. Stress activation of the adrenal cortex was blocked by metapiron injections. In cases of chronic stress along with the evident structural and functional damages in the immune system, in the spleen and in the peripheral blood there was a suppression of proliferative activity of T- and B-lymphocytes and an increase of functional activity of immuno-regulatory cells (T-suppressors). In chronic stress, specific compensatory changes due to the protective effect of metapiron preventing immunodepressive action of the adrenal gland hyperactivity were noted as well.

ABSTRACT

A quantitative histochemical study of 50 cases of laryngeal squamous-cell carcinoma established differences in the structural-metabolic indices characterized by tumour growth and differentiation. Tumor epithelium exhibited lower activity of the aerobic oxidation enzymes and by a lower content of the nuclear nucleic acids. Differentiation of multilayer epithelium of laryngeal mucous membrane in followed by an increase of the histochemical index dispersion. The dispersion of the structural-metabolic indices is decreasing in the tumor epithelium in the process of differentiation and keratinization. The highest degree of anaplasia is observed in the keratinizing form of carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

The material of lectures on pathology in 75 higher medical schools of the country is analyzed. The types of lectures, their optimal planning are indicated. Recommendations to enhance their efficiency taking into consideration the motivation of their learning are given. Optimal form for the lecture is considered a problem lecture.

ABSTRACT

The effect of mebendazole on the gastric and intestinal mucosa was studied in 52 intact white rats. It was shown that the drug caused a significant damage to the mucosa, especially of goblet cells of villi and crypts and interfere with the mucoid secretion. The alterations after mebendazole administration were more severe than those caused by naphthamon. On the 13-15th day after the treatment the complete restoration of the damage was not seen.

ABSTRACT

Structural features of the endothelium interaction with the blood cellular elements during atherosclerotic processes of varying severity in the coronary arteries have been analyzed from the data of early sections and coronary artery biopsy specimens. The status of the endothelium has been uniform in macroscopically unchanged sites irrespective of the coronary atherosclerosis severity. A stable characteristic symptom of the initial stages of atherogenesis is the formation of crater-like defects and monocyte adhesion. Scanning electron microscopy has shown for the first time the presence of echinocytes in the blood of coronary patients and adhesion of these cells at the site of the endothelial monolayer destruction. The formation of microthrombi at the site of endothelial destruction is not a stable symptom of the initial stages of atherogenesis. Endothelial destruction and regeneration, aided by the platelets, can be observed at all stages of atherogenesis.

ABSTRACT

Performance of early autopsies enables one to use the methods of functional-morphological analysis in the daily work of pathoanatomists and to make systematic studies of patho- and morphogenesis basing on autopsy material. It is found that during the first postmortem hour tissue and organ metabolism stays stable, thus providing conditions for using histoenzymic and electron-microscopic methods to study organs and tissues. Organization of early autopsies for solving different scientific, educational and clinico-diagnostic problems may be realized in the conditions of a 24-hour work of a pathoanatomical unit in a general hospital. The authors have summarized the results of early autopsy study performed in 1980-1985.

ABSTRACT

The cell content of mammary stroma infiltrate (lymphocytes, plasmocytes, eosinophilic leukocytes, macrophages, mast cells) was determined in the process of physiological involution, in dyshormonal hyperplasia and mammary gland tumours of old rats. Studies on the physiological involution revealed the existence of correlations between some pairs of the test types of free cells. Under dyshormonal transformation and tumour growth the former correlations disappeared and the new ones were formed, not occurring during the physiological involution of the mammary gland epithelium.

ABSTRACT

A histological investigation of the mammary glands and lymph nodes as well as a quantitative histoenzymological investigation of the content of nucleic acids and the activity of a number of enzymes were carried out. A reaction of the lymph nodes to tumour growth was established. A uniform type of this reaction justifies the assumption about a generalized response of the peripheral lymphoid tissue. The quantitative histochemical investigation revealed the specificity of the regional node response. A clear-cut dynamics on functional-morphological indices in the zones of T- and B-lymphocytes distribution with early activation of hydrolytic enzymes was observed. At the development stage of tumours a reverse ratio of nucleic acids contents and the activity of enzymes of eneryg metabolism was detected. This dissociation seems to be of importnace in realization of tumour growth in the mammary gland.
