ABSTRACT

In this Research Communication we describe the effect of temperature and humidity index (THI) on various physiological traits, the plasma heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) and cortisol levels and other blood parameters in crossbred buffalo (Nili-Ravi × Murrah) and Mediterranean buffalo to compare their tolerance to heat stress. As expected, crossbred buffalo had a significantly higher rectal temperature (RT), body surface temperature (BT), respiratory rate (RR), HSP70 and HSP90 levels in summer compared to spring and winter. RT and BT were also significantly higher in spring compared to winter. A significant correlation existed between THI and RT (r = 0·81) and RR (r = 0·84). Importantly, in summer the crossbred buffalo had a significantly lower RT, BT and RR and higher HSP70, HSP90 and cortisol levels than the Mediterranean buffalo. In conclusion, higher THI was associated with significant increase in RT, RR, BT, HSP70, HSP90 and cortisol levels, and the crossbred buffalo were more heat tolerant than Mediterranean buffalo.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the expression of Slug,EMMPRIN and E-cadherin in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC)and its correlation with clinicopathological characteristics, and the correlation among themselves. Methods:Slug,EMMPRIN and E-cadherin expression in 1 1 5 SACC cases of SACC was examined by immunohistochemical staining. The results and clinicopatho-logical data were statistically analyzed. Results:High positive expression frequencies of Slug(76.5%)and EMMPRIN(69.6%)and low positive expression frequency of E-cadherin(51 .3%)were found in 1 1 5 SACC cases. The expression of Slug and EMMPRIN was positively associated with the histopathological types, clinical stages, perineural invasion, recurrence and distance metastasis(P <0.05).The expression of E-cadherin was negatively associated with the histopathological types, clinical stages, perineural invasion and distance metastasis(P <0.05).There was a significant correlation between Slug and EMMPRIN expression(P <0.05),negative correlation between EMMPRIN and E-cadherin expression(P <0.05)and between Slug and E-cadherin expression(P <0.05).Con-clusion:The expression of Slug,EMMPRIN and E-cadherin is closely correlated to the clinicopathological characteristics of SACC.

ABSTRACT

Objective To detect the effect of Guided Relaxation Method with Music on pain sensitivity and hemodynamics in acupuncture. Methods 70 volunteers aged 18 to 22, all in good condition, were randomized to study group or control group (each 35).In the control group, volunteers were only treated with acupuncture in a routine way while volunteers in the study group were treated with acupuncture using Guided Relaxation Method with Music .Comparing the change of heart rate and blood pressure before and after the experiment, and the pain sensitivity between these two groups. Results By comparing the two groups, it showed that there were no significant differences in heart rate, diastolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure level(p>0.05).Numerical rat-ing scale scores in study group was much lower (p0.05).Conclusion Guided Relaxation Method with Music could help to alleviate the feeling of pain, and make acupuncture therapy more acceptable.
