ABSTRACT

The possibilities of using one of the methods of multivariate statistics, factor analysis, in the study of the frequency of consumption of food categories for the population are considered. Comparison of the results with the results of other statistical methods (cluster and variance analysis) showed the adequacy of factor analysis in the study purposes.

ABSTRACT

The authors studied benz(a)pyrene-specific secretory and serum antibody ratios (Ka) in 249 workers of the Kemerovo Power Station, by applying their modified enzyme immunoassay technique. There were 37 (20.5%) and 4 (5.8%) cases with Ka >2 at the preset immunoassay parameters of the 180 and 69 workers of mainline production and auxiliary units, respectively. A Ka value of >2 was found in 35 (21.6%) of the 162 males and only in 6 (6.9%) of the 87 females of the whole sample, in 29 (26.1%) of the 111 smokers and in 12 (8.7%) of the 138 non-smokers. The technique is proposed to study specific immune reactions and exposure to carcinogens primarily in workers of the enterprises processing coal and other types of fuel.

ABSTRACT

The paper presents the results of studying the health status of Kemerovo schoolchildren from the parameters of their physical health and adaptation potential. Characteristic changes in these parameters have been ascertained in different age- and gender-specific groups. Overall, there are progressive decreases in their physical health and functional capacities with age.

ABSTRACT

A statistically significant direct strong correlation was found and an interval was determined between the annual volumes of atmospheric emission from OAO "KOKS" and the standardized (lung, gastric, skin, thyroid, breast, and ovarian) malignancy morbidity rates in Kemerovo. There were gender differences in the incidence of malignancies. The calculated regression coefficients can predict a probable rise in malignancy morbidity in Kemerovo from 2010 due to the increased volumes of atmospheric emission by OAO "KOKS since 2001.

ABSTRACT

A statistically significant direct strong correlation was found between the annual average daily concentrations of air benz[a]pyrene and the lung and the gastric cancer morbidity rates in males and females, skin, thyroid, and ovarian cancer in females. The certain interval of the measured concentration of benz[a]pyrene and the recorded morbidity rate was shown to be characteristic of each of the above-mentioned tumors.

ABSTRACT

Twenty two children with mixed-infection of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and ixodic tick borreliosis (ITB) were studied. Blood hydrocortisone level was changed in 94.5% of the cases. The most significant activation of hydrocortisone secretion in combination with the most pronounced and prolonged general brain manifestations, was detected in infants. Blood hydrocortisone level correlated with clinical symptoms of combined TBE and ITB infections. Along with higher hydrocortisone level, down-regulation of production of antibodies both to B. burgdorferi and to TBE virus was specific for all children studied.

ABSTRACT

The paper characterizes the clinical and laboratory indices of the endogenous intoxication syndrome (EIS) in 173 patients with acute Russian tick-borne encephalitis. In its feverish form, EIS is characterized by the general intoxication syndrome and a slight increase in the luciferase index (LI). In its meningeal form, EIS is accompanied by overall cerebral symptoms, cardiovascular, respiratory and hepatic detoxifying dysfunctions, which are manifested by increases in both the intoxication leukocyte index of (ILI) and LI. In its focal form, EIS is characterized by the signs of multiorgan failure with the most pronounced alterations in the laboratory indices of endotoxemia (LID and LI).

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present study was to comprehensively assess goiter endemia in Kuzbass. The spread of goiter was examined in its population. The severity and intensity of goiter endemia were assessed. Its causes and risk factors were revealed. The Kemerovo region was found to be an area of moderate goiter endemia with a tendency for its severity. The wide spread of iodine deficiency in the population, which is associated with low dietary iodine intake, is a cause of goiter endemia in Kuzbass.

ABSTRACT

AIM: A comparative study of late ventricular potentials (LVP) in patients with cardiological syndrome X (SX) and stenotic atherosclerosis of coronary arteries (ACA) as well as their relations with arrhythmia, cardiac contractility, lipid metabolism and morphological characteristics of the myocardium. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The examination of 52 SX and 77 ACA patients as well as 17 healthy subjects included coronaroventriculography, bicycle exercise, 24-h ECG monitoring, echocardiography, signal-averaged high-resolution (SAHR) ECG, investigation of blood lipoproteins. Endomyocardial biopsy was made in 5 ACA and 5 SX patients. RESULTS: No differences were registered between SX and ACA patients by frequency and severity of arrhythmic episodes, percentage of patients with registered LVP, quantitative parameters of SAHR ECG. Frequency of high-gradation ventricular arrhythmia episodes was significantly higher in SX and ACA patients with LVP than such patients free of LVP. SX patients had correlation between parameters of SAHR ECG, myocardial contractility and lipid metabolism. Foci of diffuse cardiosclerosis are most probable anatomic substrate of LVP. CONCLUSION: The risk of prognostically unfavourable high-gradation ventricular arrhythmia episodes in SX and ACA patients is the same. LVP may predict severe ventricular arrhythmia episodes both in SX and ACA patients.

ABSTRACT

The using of the low calorie soft drink "Forest gift" based on plant raw and enriched with vitamin C and iodine by patients with diabetes mellitus has resulted in the improvement of carbohydrates metabolism, provision of iodine and vitamin C and oxidant status of organism. Obtained data has promised to recommend this product for using in patient's ration.

ABSTRACT

Nutritional value of diets given to children attending kindergartens and schools in Kemerovo according to specified menu (proteins, vitamins, minerals) has been studied. The unbalance in diet ration leading to development of iodine deficiency in children of these institutions is responsible for high incidence of goiter. The level of iodine deficiency is 34.0% in kindergartens and 78.2% in boarding schools. High occurrence of goiter in children's institutions should be considered in planning antigoiter preventive measures.

ABSTRACT

Steroid-binding proteins of human blood are extracted and investigated on corticosteroid-hydrazide-oxypropyl-adsorbents by the affinity chromatography. The role of structural changes in the matrix-spacer-ligand system for different types of adsorbents is studied as well as a dependence of sorption on pH and salt environment. A dependence of the protein sorption on the isolated hydrazide groups is revealed. It is shown that hydrocortisone displays the highest binding activity to the protein pool in the affinity electroimmunoassay while the substance S-Reichstein and its 16-alpha-methyl analog--the least one.
