ABSTRACT

Organization and results of breast cancer screening, of working women from 5 institutions are presented. 1144 women out of 1821 invited, entered the examination. In 958 in addition to clinical examination of the breast, xeromammography has been performed. In the group of women less than 40 years of age no suspicions of cancer changes have been detected and in the group of age 40-60 years in 4 cases suggestive of cancer changes have been present. In two the presence of malignancy have been confirmed. The total detectability of cancer in the examined group (0.18% in total and 0.32% in the over 40 years group) has been compared with detectability presented in the literature. The organizational feasibility and effectiveness of the breast cancer screening of women employed in some institutions suggest the possibility of further expansion of this activity.

ABSTRACT

Organization and results of screening examinations of the mammary glands of 1116 students and 989 workers from the high school personnel, are presented. In the group of 1611 women less than 40 years of age no changes suggesting the presence of cancer have been detected. Among 494 workers 40 years of age and older 11 cases (2.2%) with changes suggestive or typical for cancer have been disclosed. The problem of low attendance of students and members of the high schools staff in the presented type of prophylactic examinations is discussed.
