ABSTRACT

Forty-four patients fitted with fixed dentures made of stainless steel with TiN-based decorative coating were followed up for 2 years. Abrasion of the decorative coating at the site of the crown contact with the basis and clammers of plate dentures and at the site of cutting edges of frontal teeth was recorded in 11 (25 percent) subjects. Measurements of the electric potentials have revealed their essential increase in the patients fitted with dentures with TiN-based coating vs. those with dentures made of gold and steel.

ABSTRACT

The authors studied the effect of the total peptide fraction of the urine of healthy donors and patients with manic-depressive psychosis on the development of glioneuronal aggregates of the cerebral cortex cultivated in collagen gel. Urine peptides from the patients dramatically increased the migration and differentiation of glioblasts while the action of healthy donors' peptides was less marked. The growth of neurites under the effect of peptides significantly differed from the control values.

ABSTRACT

The effects of kyotorphin (Tyr-Arg) on CA1 and CA3 field responses were studied on rat hippocampal slice preparations. Slice perfusion with 10(-6)-10(-4) M of kyotorphin resulted in reactivity changes both in mossy fibers (CA3) and Schaffer collaterals (CA1). The principal effect was the increase in pop-spike amplitude. Kyotrophin (10(-6)-10(-5) M) and metenkephalin (10(-7)-10(-6) M) were found to produce similar reactivity changes (facilitation) in CA1 region of most preparations. However, kyotorphin effect, in contrast to enkephalin-induced facilitation was not blocked by naloxone. The data suggest that the mechanisms of kyotorphin action in the hippocamp are not related to endogenous enkephalin release.
