ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Determinar si la enfermedad periodontal en las gestantes es un factor de riesgo para el bajo peso al nacer en el Hospital Alberto Sabogal Sologuren, ESSALUD-Callao 7, durante el periodo de junio - agosto de 2008. Material y método: El estudio fue de casos y controles. La muestra estuvo conformada por 100 madres del área de puerperio del Hospital Alberto Sologuren. Se realizó un examen periodontal a las pacientes, se clasificó la enfermedad de acuerdo a su gravedad mediante el Índice Periodontal de Ramfjord. El sondaje se realizó dentro de las 48 horas posteriores al parto. Resultados: Se encontró que la enfermedad periodontal no es un factor de riesgo para el bajo peso al nacer (OR de 0,493). Conclusiones: Se concluye que la enfermedad periodontal de las puérperas incluidas en el estudio no es un factor de riesgo para el bajo peso al nacer.


Objective: To determine whether periodontal disease in pregnant women, is a risk factor for low birthweight in Sologuren Hospital, Callao ESSALUD 7 during the period from June to August 2008. Material and method: The study was a control case.The sample consisted of 100 mothers in the postpartum area of the Alberto Sologuren Hospital. Periodontal examination was performed to patients, the disease was classified according to their severity using the Periodontal Index of Ramfjord. The catheterization was performed within 48 hours after the birth. The study was case control, retrospective study. Results: It was found that the periodontal disease is not a factor risk for low birthweight; (OR of 0.493). Conclusions: We conclude that periodontal disease in postpartum women in the study is not a risk factor for low birthweight.
