ABSTRACT

This study aimed to validate the results of Nursing selected from the link NANDA-I-NOC (Nursing Outcomes Classification--NANDA--International) for diagnosis Ineffective Breathing Pattern and Impaired Spontaneous Ventilation in adult intensive care unit. This is a content validation study conducted in a university hospital in southern Brazil with 15 expert nurses with clinical experience and knowledge of the ratings. The instruments contained five-point Likert scales to rate the importance of each outcome (1st step) and indicator (Step 2) for the diagnoses studied. We calculated weighted averages for each outcome/indicator, considering) 1 = 0. 2 = 0.25, 3 = 0.50 4 = 0.75 and 5 = 1. The outcomes suggested by the NOC with averages above 0.8 were considered validated as well as the indicators. The results Respiratory State--airway permeability (Ineffective Breathing Patterns) and 11 indicators, and Response to mechanical ventilation: adult (Impaired Spontaneous Ventilation) with 26 indicators were validated.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to explore the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) applicability on hospitalized orthopedic patients diagnosed with Self-care Deficit: bathing/hygiene. This is a quantitative, descriptive study developed in a university hospital with patients submitted to total hip replacement in 2008. The data collection instrument was composed of 24 NOC Self-care outcome indicator: Self-care: Activities of Daily Living; Self-care: Bathing; Self-care: Hygiene; Self-care: Oral Hygiene; and a Likert scale in which 1 = dependent 2 = does not participate; 3 = requires an assistant; 4 = independent but requires an assistant mechanism; 5 = completely independent. 25 patients bathing on first and third post-operative day were observed. Ethical aspects were respected. In 21 cases there was significant statistical variation between average scores from first to second bath. NOC classification scales presented internal consistency, proving their reliability to measure the patient evolution during nursing care implementation.

ABSTRACT

This study mapped the 52 nursing care actions prescribed for orthopedic patients onto Self-care Deficit: bathing and/or hygiene, Impaired Physical Mobility and Risk for Infection, according to the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC). The study was developed at a University Hospital in Porto Alegre, Brazil, using the Delphi Technique as the content validation method, considering a level of 70% of agreement among experts. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics. Twenty-two experts validated the mapping of 51 nursing care actions onto 56 NIC interventions in two rounds. The objective was achieved because only one mapped care action did not reach the established level of agreement. None of the mapped care actions reached 100% consensus, which evidences the various possibilities of comparison and the importance of validation studies.
